In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.
1. They ask you about the spoils of war. Say, "The spoils belong to Allah and the Messenger. So fear Allah, settle things peacefully among yourselves, and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you truly believe."
2. True believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, whose faith grows stronger when His verses are recited to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.
3. They pray regularly and give from what We have provided them.
4. These are the real believers. They will have high ranks with their Lord, forgiveness, and a generous reward.
5. Remember when your Lord brought you out of your home for a true purpose, even though a group of believers disliked it.
6. They argued with you about the truth after it became clear, as if they were being driven toward death while watching it happen.
7. Remember when Allah promised you one of the two groups would be yours, and you wished the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah wanted to prove the truth through His words, and completely defeat the disbelievers.
8. To make the truth clear and falsehood vanish, even if the guilty disliked it.
9. Remember when you begged your Lord for help, and He answered, "I will support you with a thousand angels, coming one after another."
10. Allah made this only as good news and to comfort your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah. Allah is truly Mighty and Wise.
11. Remember when He covered you with sleep, giving you peace from Him, and sent down rain from the sky to cleanse you, remove Satan's whispers, strengthen your hearts, and steady your footsteps.
12. Remember when your Lord inspired the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen the believers. I will cast fear into the hearts of the disbelievers, so strike above their necks, and strike every fingertip."
13. This is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, Allah is severe in punishment.
14. That is your punishment, so taste it. And the disbelievers will have the punishment of the Fire.
15. Believers, when you meet the disbelievers marching toward you in battle, don't turn your backs and run away.
16. Whoever turns away on that day — unless it's a battle strategy, or to join another group — will surely earn Allah's anger. Their home will be Hell, and what a terrible place to end up!
17. You didn't defeat them yourselves; it was Allah Who defeated them. And when you threw, it wasn't really you throwing — it was Allah Who threw, so that He may test the believers with a good trial. Allah hears everything and knows everything.
18. That's how it is — Allah weakens the plot of the disbelievers.
19. If you were looking for victory, victory has come to you. But if you stop fighting, that's better for you. If you return to fight again, We will return too, and your group won't help you at all, no matter how large it is. Remember, Allah is always with the believers.
20. Believers, obey Allah and His Messenger, and don't turn away from him while you are listening.
21. Don't be like those who say, "We hear," but they don't really listen.
22. The worst creatures in Allah's sight are those who are deaf and mute — those who don't understand.
23. If Allah had seen any good in them, He would have made them listen. But even if He made them listen, they would still turn away stubbornly.
24. Believers, answer Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to what gives you life. Remember, Allah comes between a person and their heart, and you will all be gathered back to Him.
25. Be careful of trouble that won't just affect those among you who do wrong. Remember, Allah's punishment is severe.
26. Remember when you were few and weak on earth, afraid that people would snatch you away. But He sheltered you, supported you with His help, and provided you with good things, so you might be thankful.
27. Believers, don't betray Allah and the Messenger, and don't betray your trusts, while you know.
28. Remember, your wealth and your children are a test, and with Allah is an amazing reward.
29. Believers, if you are mindful of Allah, He will give you means to distinguish right from wrong, erase your mistakes, and forgive you — Allah is full of great favor.
30. Remember when the disbelievers plotted against you — to detain you, kill you, or drive you out. They made their plans, but Allah also planned — and Allah is the best of planners.
31. When Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We've heard! If we wanted, we could say something just like it. These are just old stories!"
32. And remember when they said, "Allah, if this really is the truth from You, then rain down stones on us from the sky, or send us a painful punishment!"
33. But Allah would not punish them while you were among them, nor would He punish them while they asked for forgiveness.
34. Yet why shouldn't Allah punish them, when they stop people from entering the Sacred Mosque, even though they aren't its guardians? Its guardians are only those who are mindful of Allah — but most of them don't realize it.
35. Their prayers at the Sacred House were nothing but whistling and clapping — so taste the punishment for your disbelief!
36. Those who disbelieve spend their money to keep people away from Allah's path. They will spend it, but soon it will only bring them regret, and then they'll be defeated. Those who disbelieve will be gathered into Hell.
37. So that Allah may separate the bad from the good, He piles the bad together, one on top of another, and throws them all into Hell — those are the losers.
38. Tell the disbelievers that if they stop, they'll be forgiven for what they've done before. But if they keep going, then the example of those before them has already passed.
39. Fight them until there is no more persecution, and all worship is devoted completely to Allah. If they stop, then Allah sees clearly everything they do.
40. But if they turn away, know that Allah is your Protector — the best Protector and the best Helper!
41. Know that whatever you gain as spoils of war, one-fifth belongs to Allah, the Messenger, his close relatives, orphans, the poor, and travelers in need — if you truly believe in Allah and in what We revealed to Our servant on the Day of Decision, the day when the two armies met. Allah has power over everything.
42. Remember when you were camped on the near side of the valley, and they were on the far side, with the caravan below you. Even if you had planned to meet, you would have missed each other — but Allah made it happen, so that whoever died would die after seeing clear proof, and whoever lived would live after seeing clear proof. Allah hears everything and knows everything.
43. Remember when Allah showed them to you in your dream as few in number. If He had shown them as many, you would have lost courage and argued about what to do — but Allah protected you. He truly knows what's in everyone's hearts.
44. And remember when you faced each other, He made them appear few in your eyes, and made you appear few in theirs, so that Allah could fulfill what He had already planned. All things return to Allah.
45. Believers, when you meet an enemy, stand firm and remember Allah often, so you may succeed.
46. Obey Allah and His Messenger, and don't argue with each other, or you'll lose courage and your strength will fade. Be patient — Allah is always with those who are patient.
47. Don't be like those who left their homes proudly, showing off to people and blocking others from Allah's path. Allah surrounds everything they do.
48. Remember when Satan made their actions seem good to them, saying, "No one can beat you today, and I'm right here with you." But when the two groups saw each other, he turned back and said, "I'm not with you — I see what you can't see, and I'm afraid of Allah." Allah is severe in punishment.
49. Remember when the hypocrites and those whose hearts were filled with doubt said, "Their religion has fooled these people." But whoever trusts in Allah — Allah is mighty and wise.
50. If only you could see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved, striking their faces and backs, saying, "Taste the punishment of the burning Fire!"
51. This is because of what your own hands have done. Allah is never unfair to His servants.
52. They acted just like Pharaoh's people and those before them — they rejected Allah's signs, so Allah punished them for their sins. Allah is powerful and severe in punishment.
53. This is because Allah would never change a blessing He gave to people until they change what's inside themselves. Allah hears everything and knows everything.
54. Just like Pharaoh's people and those before them — they denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins and drowned Pharaoh's people. All of them were wrongdoers.
55. The worst creatures in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve, and they refuse to believe.
56. They are the ones you made promises to, but they break their promises every single time, and they don't fear Allah.
57. So if you meet them in battle, make a clear example of them to warn those behind them, so they might remember.
58. If you fear betrayal from a group, end your agreement with them openly and fairly — Allah does not love those who betray.
59. And don't let the disbelievers think they've escaped — certainly, they can't escape.
60. Prepare against them whatever strength you can gather, including trained horses, to frighten Allah's enemies and yours, and others you don't know — but Allah knows them. And whatever you spend in Allah's way, He will repay you fully, and you won't be treated unfairly.
61. But if they lean toward peace, then you too must lean toward peace, and put your trust in Allah. He is the One Who hears everything, and knows everything.
62. And if they want to deceive you, then Allah is enough for you. He is the One Who strengthened you with His help, and with the believers.
63. He brought their hearts together. Even if you had spent everything on earth, you couldn't have brought their hearts together — but Allah brought them together. Truly, He is powerful and wise.
64. Prophet, Allah is enough for you, and for the believers who follow you.
65. Prophet, encourage the believers to fight. If there are twenty patient fighters among you, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are a hundred, they will defeat a thousand unbelievers, because those people don't understand.
66. Now Allah has made things easier for you, knowing there is weakness among you. So if there are a hundred patient fighters among you, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are a thousand, they will defeat two thousand, by Allah's permission. Allah is with those who are patient.
67. It's not right for a prophet to take prisoners until he has firmly established himself in the land. You want the gains of this world, but Allah wants the rewards of the Hereafter. Allah is mighty and wise.
68. If Allah had not already decided this, a great punishment would have come to you for what you took.
69. So enjoy what you've gained — it's lawful and good. But always be mindful of Allah. Allah is forgiving and merciful.
70. Prophet, say to the prisoners in your hands, "If Allah sees goodness in your hearts, He will give you something better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you. Allah is forgiving and merciful."
71. But if they plan to betray you, remember they've already betrayed Allah before, and He gave you power over them. Allah knows everything and is wise.
72. Those who believed, migrated, and struggled with their wealth and lives for Allah's cause, and those who gave shelter and help — they are true friends and protectors of each other. But those who believed and didn't migrate — you have no duty to protect them until they migrate. Yet if they ask for your help in religion, you must help them, unless it's against a people you have a treaty with. Allah sees clearly everything you do.
73. The unbelievers support each other. If you don't do the same, there will be trouble and great corruption on earth.
74. Those who believed, migrated, and struggled for Allah's cause, and those who gave shelter and help — they are the true believers. They will have forgiveness and generous provision.
75. And those who believed later, migrated, and struggled alongside you — they are part of you. But relatives are closer to each other according to Allah's Book. Allah knows everything.
