In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Everything in the heavens and the earth praises Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

2. He is the One Who drove out the disbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering. You never thought they'd leave, and they believed their forts would protect them from Allah. But Allah came to them from where they least expected, and He filled their hearts with fear. They destroyed their own homes with their own hands, and the hands of the believers. So learn from this, you who have eyes to see.

3. If Allah hadn't decided they'd leave their homes, He would have punished them in this world. And in the Hereafter, they'll face the punishment of the Fire.

4. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah — Allah is truly severe in punishment.

5. Whatever palm trees you cut down, or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah's permission, so He might humble those who disobeyed.

6. Whatever Allah gave to His Messenger from them — you didn't have to ride horses or camels to win it. But Allah gives His messengers power over whoever He wishes. And Allah has power over everything.

7. Whatever Allah gave to His Messenger from the people of the towns, belongs to Allah, the Messenger, his relatives, the orphans, the needy, and travelers in need. This way, wealth won't just pass around among the rich ones of you. Whatever the Messenger gives you, accept it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it. And be mindful of Allah — Allah is truly severe in punishment.

8. This is also for the poor migrants who were forced out of their homes, and lost their belongings, seeking Allah's favor and His approval, and helping Allah and His Messenger. They are the ones who are truthful.

9. And those who had already settled in the city, and accepted faith before them — they love those who migrated to them, and they don't feel jealous about what the migrants were given. They even put others before themselves, even if they themselves are in need. Whoever is protected from their own selfishness — they are the ones who succeed.

10. And those who came after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers and sisters who believed before us, and don't let our hearts hold any bitterness toward those who have faith. Our Lord, You are truly kind and merciful."

11. Haven't you noticed those hypocrites who say to their disbelieving brothers among the People of the Book, "If you're forced out, we'll definitely leave with you, and we'll never obey anyone against you. If you're attacked, we'll surely help you"? But Allah Himself testifies — they're lying.

12. If they're forced out, those hypocrites won't leave with them. And if they're attacked, they won't help them. Even if they tried to help, they'd quickly turn and run away — and then they'd have no help at all.

13. In their hearts, they're more afraid of you than they are of Allah. That's because they're people who don't understand.

14. They won't fight you openly, except from behind strong walls or inside protected towns. They're tough only among themselves. You think they're united, but their hearts are divided. That's because they're people who don't think clearly.

15. They're just like those who recently came before them — they tasted the painful consequences of their actions, and they will have a painful punishment.

16. They're like Satan, who says to a human, "Reject Allah!" But when that person rejects Allah, Satan says, "I'm free of you — I truly fear Allah, the Lord of all creation."

17. So the end for both of them is that they'll stay in the Fire forever. That's exactly what those who do wrong deserve.

18. Believers, be mindful of Allah, and let each soul think carefully about what it has prepared for tomorrow. Be mindful of Allah, for Allah truly knows everything you do.

19. Don't be like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the corrupt.

20. The people of the Fire and the people of Paradise are not equal. The people of Paradise are the ones who succeed.

21. If We had sent down this Quran onto a mountain, you would have seen it humble itself, and break apart from awe of Allah. These examples We give to people, so they may reflect deeply.

22. He is Allah, there is no god except Him. He knows everything hidden and everything open. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

23. He is Allah, there is no god except Him — the King, the Most Pure, the Source of Peace, the Giver of Security, the Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Irresistible, the Majestic. Glory to Allah, far above anything they associate with Him.

24. He is Allah — the Creator, the Maker, the Shaper. The most beautiful names belong to Him. Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
