In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Allah has heard the words of the woman who argued with you about her husband, and complained to Allah. Allah hears your conversation — Allah hears and sees everything.

2. Those among you who say to their wives, "You are like my mother's back," — their wives are not their mothers. Their mothers are only those who gave birth to them. What they say is wrong and false — but Allah is Pardoning, Most Forgiving.

3. Those who say this to their wives, and then want to take back their words, must free a captive before they touch each other. This is what you're taught to do — and Allah knows everything you do.

4. If someone can't find a captive to free, he must fast two months in a row, before they touch each other again. If he can't do that, he must feed sixty poor people. This is to make sure you believe in Allah and His Messenger. These are Allah's limits — and for those who reject them, there's a painful punishment.

5. Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be humbled, just like those before them were humbled. We've sent down clear verses — and for those who reject them, there's a humiliating punishment.

6. On the Day when Allah raises them all, He'll tell them clearly what they've done. Allah kept track of it all, even though they forgot it — and Allah witnesses everything.

7. Don't you realize that Allah knows everything in the heavens, and everything on earth? There's no secret talk between three people, without Him being the fourth, nor between five, without Him being the sixth. Whether fewer or more — He's always with them, wherever they are. Then, on the Day of Judgment, He'll tell them exactly what they've done. Surely, Allah knows everything.

8. Haven't you seen those who were told not to hold secret talks, yet they still go back to doing what was forbidden? They whisper secretly about sin, hostility, and disobeying the Messenger. And when they come to you, they greet you in a way Allah never greeted you, and they say to themselves, "Why doesn't Allah punish us for what we say?" Hell is enough for them — they'll burn in it. What a terrible place to end up!

9. Believers, when you talk secretly together, don't speak about sin, aggression, or disobeying the Messenger. Instead, speak privately about doing good and being mindful of Allah. Always be aware of Allah — you will all be gathered back to Him.

10. Secret talks that cause sadness to believers are from Satan. But he can't harm them at all, unless Allah allows it. So believers should put their trust completely in Allah.

11. Believers, when you're asked to make room in gatherings, make room — then Allah will make room for you. And when you're asked to stand up, stand up. Allah raises up in honor those who believe and those who have knowledge. Allah knows everything you do.

12. Believers, when you want to speak privately with the Messenger, first give something in charity. That's better for you, and purer. But if you can't find anything to give, then remember — Allah is forgiving and full of mercy.

13. Did you feel worried about giving charity before speaking privately with the Messenger? Since you didn't do it, and Allah has forgiven you, then pray regularly, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah is fully aware of everything you do.

14. Have you noticed those who make friends with people who have earned Allah's anger? They don't belong with you, or with them, and they swear to lies, even though they know it.

15. Allah has prepared a severe punishment for them — what they have done is truly terrible.

16. They use their promises as a shield, turning others away from Allah's path. So they will face a humiliating punishment.

17. Neither their money nor their children will help them at all against Allah. They are the people of the Fire, and they will stay there forever.

18. On the Day when Allah raises them all, they'll swear to Him, just like they swear to you now, and they think they're actually right. But surely, they're the real liars.

19. Satan has taken control of them, and made them forget to remember Allah. They are Satan's followers — and surely, Satan's followers are the losers.

20. Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be among the lowest of all.

21. Allah has written, "I and My messengers will definitely win." Truly, Allah is Powerful and Mighty.

22. You won't find people who truly believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger — even if they're their own fathers, sons, brothers, or relatives. Allah has placed faith firmly in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Him. He will bring them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, where they'll live forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. They are Allah's followers — and surely, Allah's followers are the successful ones.
