In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. O you who believe, keep your promises. You are allowed to eat animals from livestock, except those clearly forbidden to you. But do not hunt while you are in the sacred state of pilgrimage. Allah commands whatever He wills.

2. O you who believe, do not disrespect Allah's sacred symbols, nor the sacred month, nor the animals brought as offerings, nor the garlands marking them, nor those who travel toward the Sacred House seeking their Lord's favor and approval. When you have completed your pilgrimage, you may hunt. Do not let your anger toward people who once stopped you from entering the Sacred Mosque lead you to do wrong. Help each other in doing good and being mindful of Allah, and do not help each other in sin and wrongdoing. Always be mindful of Allah — Allah is severe in punishment.

3. Forbidden for you to eat are animals found dead, blood, pork, animals dedicated to anyone other than Allah, animals that were strangled, beaten to death, fallen from a height, gored by horns, or partly eaten by wild animals — unless you properly slaughter them yourselves — and animals sacrificed on stone altars. Also forbidden is using arrows to decide your luck. All these things are wrong. Today, those who disbelieve have lost all hope of harming your religion, so do not fear them — fear Me alone. Today, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen Islam as your way of life. But if someone is forced by extreme hunger, without willingly disobeying, then Allah is truly forgiving and merciful.

4. They ask you what is allowed for them. Say, "All good and pure things are allowed for you, as well as what your trained hunting animals catch for you. You teach them from what Allah has taught you. So eat what they catch for you, and mention Allah's name over it. Always be mindful of Allah — Allah is swift in taking account."

5. Today, all good and pure foods have been made lawful for you. The food of those who were given the Scripture is allowed for you, and your food is allowed for them. Also allowed for you in marriage are honorable believing women and honorable women from among those who received the Scripture before you, provided you give them their bridal gifts, marrying them honorably — not committing immoral acts or secretly taking lovers. Whoever rejects faith, all their good deeds will be worthless, and in the Hereafter, they will be among the losers.

6. Believers, when you stand up to pray, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to the ankles. If you're in a state of impurity, then purify yourselves completely. But if you're sick, traveling, have used the bathroom, or have touched women, and you can't find water, then use clean earth — wipe your faces and hands with it. Allah doesn't want to make things hard for you; He wants to purify you and complete His blessing upon you, so you may be thankful.

7. Remember Allah's blessing on you, and the promise He made with you when you said, "We hear and we obey." Always be mindful of Allah — He knows exactly what's in your hearts.

8. Believers, always stand firmly for Allah, as witnesses for justice. Never let hatred toward any people lead you away from being fair. Be fair — that's closer to being mindful of Allah. Always be mindful of Allah — He knows exactly what you're doing.

9. Allah has promised those who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great reward.

10. But those who disbelieve and deny Our verses — they are the companions of Hellfire.

11. Believers, remember Allah's blessing on, you when some people planned to harm you, but He held their hands back from you. Always be mindful of Allah, and let the believers put their trust in Allah alone.

12. Allah made a promise with the Children of Israel, and We chose twelve leaders from among them. Allah said, "I am with you. If you pray regularly, give charity, believe in My messengers, support them, and lend Allah a good loan, I will surely erase your mistakes and bring you into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. But whoever disbelieves after this has truly lost the right path."

13. But because they broke their promise, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They twisted words from their true meanings and forgot part of what they were reminded of. You will always find dishonesty among them, except for a few. Still, forgive them and overlook their mistakes. Allah loves those who do good.

14. And from those who said, "We are Christians," We also took a promise, but they forgot part of what they were reminded of. So We placed enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Judgment. Allah will soon tell them clearly what they used to do.

15. People of the Book, Our Messenger has come to you, clearly showing you much of what you used to hide from the Scripture, and forgiving much. A light and a clear Book have now come to you from Allah.

16. With it, Allah guides those who seek His approval to paths of peace. By His permission, He brings them out of darkness into the light, and leads them to a straight path.

17. Those who say, "Allah is Christ, the son of Mary," have surely disbelieved. Say, "Who could stop Allah if He wanted to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, his mother, and everyone on earth?" To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything between them. He creates whatever He wills, and Allah has power over everything.

18. The Jews and Christians say, "We are Allah's children and His beloved ones." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins? No, you are human beings among those He created. He forgives whoever He wills and punishes whoever He wills. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, and to Him is the final return."

19. People of the Book, Our Messenger has now come to you, clearly explaining things after a long gap without messengers — so you cannot say, "No bringer of good news or warner ever came to us." Now a bringer of good news and a warner has come to you. And Allah has power over everything.

20. Remember when Moses said to his people, "My people, remember Allah's favor to you, when He made prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given anyone else in the world."

21. "My people, enter the holy land that Allah has promised you, and don't turn your backs, or you'll end up as losers."

22. They said, "Moses, there are powerful people in that land. We won't enter it until they leave. If they leave, then we'll go in."

23. Two men from among those who feared Allah, and whom Allah had favored, said, "Go through the gate and face them. If you enter, you'll surely win. Put your trust in Allah if you truly believe."

24. They said, "Moses, we'll never enter it as long as those people are there. So you and your Lord go and fight — we'll stay right here."

25. Moses said, "My Lord, I only have control over myself and my brother. So separate us from these disobedient people."

26. Allah said, "Then this land will be forbidden to them for forty years. They'll wander lost on the earth. So don't feel sad about these disobedient people."

27. Tell them the true story of Adam's two sons. Each offered a sacrifice — it was accepted from one but not from the other. The rejected one said, "I'll definitely kill you." The other replied, "Allah only accepts from those who truly fear Him."

28. "Even if you raise your hand to kill me, I won't raise mine to kill you. I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds."

29. "I want you to bear my sin and your sin, and you become one of those who belong to the Fire. That's the punishment for those who do wrong."

30. But his soul pushed him to kill his brother, so he killed him, and became one of the losers.

31. Then Allah sent a crow, scratching at the ground, to show him how to bury his brother's body. He cried, "How terrible! Am I not even able to be like this crow, and bury my brother's body?" And he became filled with regret.

32. Because of this, We commanded the Children of Israel that whoever takes a life — unless it's for murder or causing corruption on earth — it's as if he killed all people. And whoever saves a life, it's as if he saved all people. Our messengers came to them with clear signs, but even after this, many of them continued to cross the limits on earth.

33. The punishment for those who fight against Allah and His Messenger, and spread corruption throughout the land, is that they should be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, or be sent away from the land. This is their disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter, they will face a great punishment.

34. Except for those who repent before you capture them — know that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

35. Believers, be mindful of Allah, seek ways to come closer to Him, and struggle in His path, so that you may succeed.

36. Those who reject the truth — even if they had everything on earth, and twice as much again, to offer as ransom from the punishment on the Day of Judgment — it would never be accepted from them. They will have a painful punishment.

37. They will want to escape from the Fire, but they will never be able to leave it. For them, there will be an everlasting punishment.

38. As for the thief, male or female, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they have done — a strong warning from Allah. Allah is Mighty and Wise.

39. But whoever repents after doing wrong and makes things right, Allah will accept their repentance. Allah is truly Forgiving and Merciful.

40. Don't you know that Allah rules over the heavens and the earth? He punishes whoever He wills, and He forgives whoever He wills. Allah has power over everything.

41. Messenger, don't let those who rush into disbelief upset you — those who say with their mouths, "We believe," but whose hearts don't believe, and those among the Jews who eagerly listen to lies, who eagerly listen to others who haven't come to you. They twist words out of their proper places, saying, "If you're given this, accept it, but if you're not given it, then beware." Whoever Allah wants to test, you can't help them against Allah at all. These are the ones whose hearts Allah doesn't want to purify. They'll face disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter they'll have a great punishment.

42. They eagerly listen to lies and constantly consume what is forbidden. If they come to you, you can judge between them or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they can't harm you at all. But if you judge, judge fairly between them — Allah loves those who are fair.

43. But how can they ask you to judge, when they have the Torah with them, containing Allah's judgment? Yet even after that, they turn away — those aren't believers.

44. We sent down the Torah, filled with guidance and light. The prophets who submitted to Allah used it to judge the Jews, as did the devoted teachers and scholars, who were trusted to protect Allah's Book and were witnesses to its truth. So don't fear people — fear only Me. And don't trade My verses for a small price. Those who don't judge by what Allah has revealed — they are the disbelievers.

45. In the Torah, We commanded them: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and equal justice for wounds. But whoever forgives instead, it will erase some of their sins. Those who don't judge by what Allah has revealed — they are the wrongdoers.

46. Then, following in their footsteps, We sent Jesus, son of Mary, confirming the Torah that came before him. We gave him the Gospel, filled with guidance and light, confirming the Torah before it, and offering guidance and advice for those mindful of Allah.

47. Let the followers of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. Those who don't judge by what Allah has revealed — they are the rebellious ones.

48. And We sent down to you the Book with truth, confirming the earlier Scriptures and overseeing their message. So judge between people according to what Allah has revealed, and don't follow their desires away from the truth that has come to you. For each community, We made a way and a path. If Allah had wanted, He could have made you all one community — but He tests you through what He has given you. So race toward doing good. You will all return to Allah, and He will clearly show you the truth about the things you disagreed on.

49. Judge between them according to what Allah has revealed, and don't follow their desires. Be careful — they might tempt you away from some of what Allah has sent down to you. If they turn away, know that Allah intends to punish them for some of their sins. Truly, many people are rebellious.

50. Do they want the judgment of ignorance? Who could be better than Allah in judgment, for people who truly believe?

51. Believers, don't take Jews and Christians as your close allies — they're allies of each other. Whoever among you takes them as allies becomes one of them. Allah doesn't guide those who do wrong.

52. You'll see those with sickness in their hearts rushing to join them, saying, "We're afraid something bad might happen to us." But maybe Allah will bring victory or another decision from Himself — then they'll deeply regret the secrets they kept hidden inside.

53. And the believers will say, "Are these the same people who swore strongly by Allah that they were truly with you?" Their good deeds have gone to waste, and now they're the losers.

54. Believers, if any of you turns away from your faith, Allah will soon bring other people — He will love them, and they will love Him. They'll be humble and kind toward believers, strong and firm against those who reject the truth. They'll struggle in Allah's path without fearing anyone's blame. This is Allah's favor, and He gives it to whoever He chooses. Allah is generous and knows everything.

55. Your true allies are only Allah, His Messenger, and the believers — those who pray regularly, give charity, and bow down humbly.

56. Whoever chooses Allah, His Messenger, and the believers as allies — then Allah's side will surely win.

57. Believers, don't take as allies those who treat your religion as a joke or a game — whether they're from the People of the Book before you or those who reject the truth. Always be mindful of Allah if you're true believers.

58. When you call people to prayer, they mock it and joke about it. That's because they're people who don't understand.

59. Say, "People of the Book, do you dislike us just because we believe in Allah, in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed before us — and because most of you disobey Allah?"

60. Say, "Should I tell you who will receive a worse reward from Allah? Those who Allah cursed, who earned His anger, some of whom He turned into monkeys and pigs, and who worshiped false powers — they're in a far worse position and have wandered far from the right path."

61. When they come to you, they say, "We believe," but they actually enter with disbelief and leave with it too. Allah knows best what they're hiding.

62. You'll see many of them rushing toward sin, aggression, and consuming what's forbidden. How terrible are the things they do!

63. Why don't their religious teachers and scholars stop them from speaking sinfully and consuming what's forbidden? How terrible are the things they're doing!

64. The Jews said, "Allah's hand is tied up." May their own hands be tied, and may they be cursed for what they said. Rather, His hands are wide open — He gives freely as He wills. But what your Lord has revealed to you will only increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. We have placed hatred and hostility among them until the Day of Judgment. Every time they light a fire for war, Allah puts it out. They spread corruption on earth, and Allah does not love the corruptors.

65. If only the People of the Book believed and were mindful of Allah, We would erase their sins and bring them into Gardens of happiness.

66. If they had truly followed the Torah, the Gospel, and what was revealed to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed blessings from above and beneath their feet. Among them are some who follow a balanced path, but many of them do terrible things.

67. Messenger, deliver clearly what your Lord has revealed to you. If you don't, you haven't delivered His message. Allah will protect you from the people. Allah certainly does not guide those who reject the truth.

68. Say, "People of the Book, you have no solid ground unless you truly follow the Torah, the Gospel, and what your Lord has revealed to you." But what your Lord has revealed to you will only increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. So don't feel sad about those who reject the truth.

69. Those who believe, and those who are Jews, Sabians, or Christians — whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds — will have no fear, nor will they be sad.

70. We took a promise from the Children of Israel and sent messengers to them. But whenever a messenger brought them something they didn't like, some they called liars, and others they killed.

71. They thought there would be no test, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah accepted their repentance, but again many of them became blind and deaf. Allah sees clearly everything they do.

72. Those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary," have truly disbelieved. But the Messiah himself said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah — my Lord and your Lord." Whoever worships others besides Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for them, and their home will be the Fire. Those who do wrong will have no helpers.

73. Those who say, "Allah is one of three," have truly disbelieved. There is no god except the One God. If they don't stop saying this, a painful punishment will surely touch those among them who disbelieve.

74. Why don't they turn back to Allah and ask His forgiveness? Allah is forgiving and full of mercy.

75. The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger — other messengers passed away before him — and his mother was a truthful woman. They both used to eat food. Look how clearly We show them the signs, then look how they turn away.

76. Say, "Do you worship something other than Allah, which has no power to harm or help you?" Allah hears everything and knows everything.

77. Say, "O People of the Book, don't go beyond the truth in your religion, and don't follow the desires of people who lost their way before, led many others astray, and wandered far from the right path."

78. Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the words of David and Jesus, son of Mary. This happened because they disobeyed and kept crossing the limits.

79. They wouldn't stop each other from doing wrong things. How terrible was what they used to do!

80. You see many of them making friends with those who disbelieve. What an awful choice they've made for themselves — that Allah is angry with them, and they'll stay forever in punishment.

81. If they had truly believed in Allah, the Prophet, and what was revealed to him, they wouldn't have taken disbelievers as close friends. But many of them are disobedient.

82. You'll surely find that the strongest in hatred towards those who believe are the Jews and those who worship idols. And you'll find the closest in friendship to the believers are those who say, "We are Christians." That's because among them are priests and monks, and they're not proud.

83. When they hear what's been revealed to the Messenger, you'll see their eyes overflowing with tears, because they recognize the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we believe, so write us down among those who witness the truth."

84. And why shouldn't we believe in Allah and the truth that's come to us? We truly hope our Lord will include us among the good people.

85. So Allah rewards them for what they've said with gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they'll stay forever. That's the reward for those who do good.

86. But those who disbelieve and deny Our verses — they're the companions of Hellfire.

87. Believers, don't forbid yourselves the good things that Allah has made lawful for you, and don't cross the limits. Allah doesn't love those who cross the limits.

88. Eat from the good, lawful things that Allah has provided for you, and be mindful of Allah, the One you believe in.

89. Allah won't hold you responsible for careless promises you didn't mean, but He'll hold you responsible for promises you've seriously intended. To make up for breaking such a promise, feed ten poor people with the same kind of food you normally give your families, or clothe them, or free someone from slavery. If you can't afford any of these, then fast for three days. That's how you make up for broken promises. So be careful about your promises. This is how Allah makes His verses clear to you, so that you might be thankful.

90. Believers, alcohol, gambling, idols, and fortune-telling arrows are filthy things from Satan's work — so stay away from them, and you'll succeed.

91. Satan only wants to stir up hatred and anger between you through alcohol and gambling, and to stop you from remembering Allah and praying. So will you stop now?

92. Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and be careful. But if you turn away, then know that Our Messenger's duty is only to clearly deliver the message.

93. Those who believe and do good deeds won't be blamed for what they've eaten in the past, as long as they remain mindful of Allah, believe, and do good deeds — then continue to be mindful and believe — and then again remain mindful and do good. Allah loves those who do good.

94. Believers, Allah will surely test you with some hunting animals within your reach — animals your hands and spears can easily catch — to see who truly respects Him even when unseen. Whoever breaks this rule after this warning will face a painful punishment.

95. Believers, do not hunt animals while you are on pilgrimage. If any of you purposely kills an animal, the penalty is to offer an animal similar to the one killed, judged fairly by two trustworthy people among you. This animal must be brought as an offering to the Kaaba. Or, instead, you can feed needy people, or fast an equal number of days, so you understand the seriousness of your action. Allah forgives what happened in the past, but whoever repeats this wrong, Allah will punish him. Allah is mighty and able to punish.

96. Hunting and eating seafood is allowed for you and travelers, as a benefit. But hunting land animals is forbidden while you are on pilgrimage. Always respect Allah, to Whom you will all return.

97. Allah made the Kaaba — the Sacred House — a place of safety and stability for people. He also made the sacred months, the animals offered as sacrifices, and the garlands marking them, as signs of respect. This is so you understand that Allah knows everything in the heavens and on earth, and that Allah is aware of all things.

98. Know that Allah's punishment is severe, but also that Allah is forgiving and full of mercy.

99. The Messenger's only duty is to clearly deliver the message. Allah knows everything you show and everything you hide.

100. Say, "Bad and good things are not equal, even if the large amount of bad things impresses you." So respect Allah, people of understanding, so you may succeed.

101. Believers, do not ask about things that, if made clear to you, would upset you. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made clear to you. Allah has forgiven these things. Allah is forgiving and patient.

102. People before you asked such questions, and then because of them, they lost their faith.

103. Allah never commanded practices like Bahirah, Saibah, Wasilah, or Haam. Those who disbelieve invent lies about Allah, and most of them do not understand.

104. When it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "What we found our parents doing is enough for us." Even if their parents knew nothing and were completely lost?

105. Believers, take care of yourselves. Those who lose their way can't harm you if you're rightly guided. To Allah you'll all return, and He'll tell you everything you've done.

106. Believers, when death comes near one of you, and you're making your will, two fair witnesses from among you should be there — or two others from outside your group, if you're traveling and death suddenly comes to you. Hold them back after prayer, and if you doubt their honesty, let them swear by Allah, "We won't trade this promise for any price, even if it's about someone close to us, and we won't hide Allah's testimony. If we did, we'd surely be among the sinners."

107. But if it's discovered that these two witnesses have done wrong, two others should take their place — chosen from among those who were wronged most by the first witnesses. They should swear by Allah, "Our testimony is truer than theirs, and we haven't crossed any limits. If we did, we'd surely be among the wrongdoers."

108. Doing this makes it more likely they'll give true testimony, or else they'll fear that their oaths might be challenged by others. Be mindful of Allah and listen carefully. Allah doesn't guide those who break His rules.

109. On the Day when Allah gathers the messengers, He'll ask them, "What answers did you receive?" They'll say, "We have no knowledge — You alone truly know all unseen things."

110. When Allah said, "Jesus, son of Mary, remember My blessings upon you and your mother — how I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so you spoke to people as a baby and as a grown man; how I taught you the Scripture, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel; how, by My permission, you shaped clay into the form of a bird, breathed into it, and it became a real bird; how, by My permission, you healed the blind and those with skin diseases; how, by My permission, you brought the dead back to life; and how I protected you from the Children of Israel when you came to them with clear miracles, but those who disbelieved among them said, 'This is nothing but obvious magic.'"

111. And remember when I inspired the disciples, "Believe in Me and My messenger." They replied, "We believe, and be our witness that we have submitted to You."

112. When the disciples said, "Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table of food from heaven?" Jesus answered, "Fear Allah, if you truly believe."

113. They said, "We want to eat from it, to reassure our hearts, to know that you've told us the truth, and to be witnesses."

114. Jesus, son of Mary, prayed, "O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table from heaven, to be a joyful celebration for the first and last of us, and a clear sign from You. Provide for us — You are the best Provider."

115. Allah replied, "I will surely send it down to you. But whoever among you disbelieves afterward, I will punish him with a punishment unlike anything I have given anyone else in the world."

116. And when Allah will say, "Jesus, son of Mary, did you tell people, 'Take me and my mother as gods besides Allah'?" Jesus will answer, "Glory to You! I would never say what I have no right to say. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what's in my heart, but I don't know what's in Yours. Truly, You alone know everything unseen."

117. "I only told them what You commanded me: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' I was a witness over them as long as I was among them, but when You took me away, You alone watched over them. And You witness everything."

118. "If You punish them, they are Your servants. But if You forgive them, You are truly the Almighty, the Wise."

119. Allah will say, "This is the Day when truthful people will benefit from their truthfulness. For them are Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, where they will live forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the greatest success."

120. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and everything within them. And He has power over all things.
