In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. This Book is sent down from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.

3. We created the heavens and the earth, and everything in between, only with truth, and for a set time. Yet those who disbelieve turn away from the warnings they receive.

4. Say, "Think about those you pray to besides Allah — show me what they created on earth, or do they have any share in the heavens? Bring me a book revealed before this, or some clear proof of knowledge, if you're telling the truth."

5. Who could be more lost than someone who prays to others besides Allah — others who won't answer him even until the Day of Judgment, and aren't even aware of his prayers?

6. And when people are gathered together, those false gods will become their enemies, rejecting the worship they received.

7. When Our clear verses are read to them, those who disbelieve say about the truth when it comes to them, "This is obviously magic."

8. Or do they say, "He made it up"? Say, "If I made it up, you can't protect me from Allah at all. He knows best what you're talking about. He is enough as a witness between me and you, and He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."

9. Say, "I'm not the first messenger ever sent, and I don't know what will happen to me or to you. I only follow what is revealed to me, and I'm only here to warn you clearly."

10. Say, "Think about this — what if it really is from Allah, and you reject it? And a witness from the Children of Israel has already testified to something similar, believed in it, while you proudly rejected it. Surely, Allah doesn't guide those who do wrong."

11. Those who disbelieve say about the believers, "If this message were good, they wouldn't have believed in it before us." And since they refuse to be guided by it, they'll say, "This is just an old lie."

12. Before this was the Book of Moses, a guide and a mercy. And now, this Book confirms it, in clear Arabic, to warn those who do wrong, and to bring good news to those who do good.

13. Those who say, "Our Lord is Allah," and then become upright — they'll have nothing to fear, and they'll never be sad.

14. They are the people of Paradise, where they'll stay forever — a reward for what they did.

15. We have told every human being to be kind and caring to their parents. Their mother carried them with hardship, and gave birth to them with hardship, and carrying them and nursing them took thirty months. Then, when they reach full strength and turn forty years old, they pray, "My Lord, help me to be thankful for the blessings You gave me and my parents, and help me do good deeds that please You. And make my children good. I turn back to You, and I am truly one of the Muslims."

16. These are the people whose best deeds We accept, and whose mistakes We overlook. They will be among the people of Paradise. This is the true promise they were given.

17. But there is another type of person who says to their parents, "Ugh! Are you really telling me I'll be brought back to life, even though generations before me have already passed away?" Their parents cry out to Allah for help, saying, "How sad for you! Believe! Allah's promise is true!" But this person only replies, "These are just old stories from the past."

18. These are the ones who deserve Allah's judgment, just like the communities of humans and jinn who lived before them. They were truly losers.

19. Everyone will have different levels based on what they did, and Allah will give them exactly what they deserve. No one will be treated unfairly.

20. On the Day when those who rejected the truth are brought before the Fire, they will be told, "You used up all your good things in your worldly life, and you enjoyed them fully. Today, you'll be repaid with a humiliating punishment, because you were arrogant on earth without any right, and because you kept disobeying."

21. Remember the brother of Aad, when he warned his people among the sand dunes. Many warners had come before him, and after him, saying, "Worship no one except Allah! I'm afraid you'll face punishment on a terrible day."

22. They said, "Did you come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring us the punishment you're promising, if you're telling the truth!"

23. He replied, "Only Allah knows when it will come. I'm just delivering the message I was sent with. But I see you're acting foolishly."

24. Then, when they saw a cloud coming toward their valleys, they said, "This cloud will bring us rain!" But no — it was exactly what they had rushed to see: a wind carrying a painful punishment.

25. Destroying everything by its Lord's command. By morning, nothing could be seen except their empty homes. This is how We repay people who do wrong.

26. We had given them power and abilities that We haven't even given you. We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts — but their hearing, sight, and hearts didn't help them at all when they rejected Allah's signs. The punishment they used to laugh at surrounded them completely.

27. We have destroyed towns around you, and We explained Our signs in many ways, so they may return to the right path.

28. Why didn't the gods they worshiped besides Allah, help them — the ones they used to get closer to Him? No, those false gods disappeared from them completely. That was their lie, and what they made up.

29. Remember when We sent a group of jinn to you, to listen to the Quran. When they arrived, they said to each other, "Be quiet, and listen carefully!" Then, when it was finished, they hurried back to their people as warners.

30. They said, "Our people, we've heard a Book sent down after Moses, confirming what came before it. It guides to the truth and to a straight path."

31. "Our people, respond to the one who calls to Allah, and believe in Him! He will forgive your sins, and protect you from a painful punishment."

32. But whoever doesn't answer the caller to Allah, can't escape Him anywhere on earth, and they'll have no protectors besides Him. Those people are clearly lost.

33. Don't they see that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth without getting tired, is able to give life to the dead? Yes, He certainly has power over everything.

34. On the Day when those who disbelieved are brought before the Fire, they'll be asked, "Isn't this real?" They'll answer, "Yes, by our Lord!" He will say, "Then taste the punishment, because you refused to believe."

35. So be patient, just as the determined messengers before you were patient, and don't rush their punishment. On the Day they finally see what they were promised, it will seem to them as if they'd stayed in this world for just an hour of a single day. This is a clear message. Will anyone be destroyed except those who disobeyed?
