In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. By the clear Book.

3. We made it an Arabic Quran, so you might understand.

4. It is with Us, in the Source of the Book, highly honored and wise.

5. Should We turn away the Reminder from you, just because you are people who go too far?

6. How many prophets did We send to people long ago?

7. But whenever a prophet came to them, they only laughed at him.

8. So We destroyed those who were even stronger than these people — and the stories of those before have already passed.

9. If you ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they'll definitely say, "The Mighty, the All-Knowing created them."

10. He made the earth smooth for you, and He placed paths on it, so you might find your way.

11. He sends down water from the sky in just the right amount, bringing life back to dead land. In the same way, you will be brought back to life.

12. He created all kinds of pairs, and made ships and animals for you to ride.

13. So that when you sit comfortably on their backs, you remember your Lord's blessing and say, "Glory to the One Who made this easy for us — we could never have done it ourselves.

14. And surely, we will return to our Lord."

15. Yet they claim that some of His servants are part of Him. Humans are clearly ungrateful.

16. Has He chosen daughters from what He created, and favored you with sons?

17. But when one of them is given news of a daughter — his face turns dark with sadness, and he holds back his anger.

18. Someone raised among jewelry, who isn't clear when arguing?

19. They call the angels — who are servants of the Most Merciful — females. Did they witness their creation? Their claims will be written down, and they'll be questioned.

20. They say, "If the Most Merciful wanted, we wouldn't have worshiped them." They have no knowledge about this — they're only guessing.

21. Or did We give them a book before this Quran, which they're holding onto?

22. No — they say, "We found our fathers following a certain way, and we're following their footsteps."

23. In the same way, whenever We sent a warner to a town before you, its rich people would say, "We found our fathers following a certain way, and we're copying their example."

24. The prophet would say, "Even if I bring you something better than what your fathers followed?" They would reply, "We reject whatever you've been sent with."

25. So We took revenge on them — see how those who rejected the truth ended up.

26. Remember when Abraham said to his father and his people, "I have nothing to do with what you worship.

27. Except the One Who created me — He will surely guide me."

28. And he made these words last among his descendants, so they might turn back to Allah.

29. But I let these people and their ancestors enjoy life, until the Truth came to them, along with a clear Messenger.

30. Yet when the Truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and we completely reject it."

31. They also said, "Why wasn't this Quran sent down to an important man from one of the two cities?"

32. Do they think they're the ones who give out your Lord's mercy? We alone decide how people live in this world, and We raise some above others in status, so they can serve one another. But your Lord's mercy is far better than all the things they gather.

33. If it weren't that all people would become one community of disbelievers, We would have given those who reject the Most Merciful silver roofs for their houses, and stairways to climb.

34. And doors to their houses, and couches to lean back on.

35. And beautiful decorations. But all of that is just temporary enjoyment in this life. The Hereafter with your Lord is only for those who are mindful of Him.

36. Whoever turns away from remembering the Most Merciful, We let a devil become their close companion.

37. These devils block them from the right path, yet they still think they're guided.

38. Until, when such a person comes before Us, he says to his devil companion, "I wish there was the distance of east and west between you and me! What a terrible companion you were!"

39. But today, it won't help you at all — since you did wrong, and now you share the punishment together.

40. Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind, or those who are clearly lost?

41. Even if We take you away, We will surely punish them.

42. Or if We show you what We promised them — We have full power over them.

43. So hold tightly to what has been revealed to you. You are truly on the straight path.

44. This Quran is a reminder for you and your people, and you will all be asked about it.

45. Ask the messengers We sent before you: Did We ever allow gods besides the Most Merciful to be worshiped?

46. We sent Moses with Our miracles to Pharaoh and his leaders. He said, "I am a messenger from the Lord of all creation."

47. But when he showed them Our miracles, they laughed at them.

48. Every miracle We showed them was greater than the one before it. And We sent punishment upon them, so they would turn back.

49. They said, "O magician, pray to your Lord for us, because of the promise He made with you. Then we'll surely follow the right way."

50. But as soon as We removed their punishment, they broke their promise.

51. Pharaoh called out to his people, saying, "My people, don't I rule Egypt, and aren't these rivers flowing beneath me? Can't you see?

52. Am I not better than this weak man who can hardly speak clearly?

53. Why hasn't he been given golden bracelets, or angels coming along with him?"

54. Pharaoh fooled his people, and they obeyed him. They were truly rebellious people.

55. So when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them all.

56. And We made them an example and a lesson for those who came later.

57. When Jesus, son of Mary, was given as an example, your people immediately opposed it.

58. They said, "Are our gods better, or is he?" They only said this to argue — truly, they're just a quarrelsome people.

59. Jesus was only a servant whom We blessed, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.

60. If We wanted, We could have made angels from among you, living on earth after you.

61. And Jesus will be a clear sign of the coming of the Hour, so don't doubt it. Follow Me — this is the straight path.

62. Don't let Satan turn you away — he's clearly your enemy.

63. When Jesus came with clear signs, he said, "I've come to you with wisdom, to explain some things you disagree about. So fear Allah and obey me.

64. Truly, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him alone. This is the straight path."

65. But different groups argued among themselves. So woe to those who did wrong, from the punishment of a painful day.

66. Are they just waiting for the Hour to suddenly come upon them, when they don't even realize it?

67. On that Day, even best friends will become enemies — except those who were mindful of Allah.

68. "My servants, today there's no fear for you, and you won't be sad.

69. You believed in Our verses, and you surrendered to Allah.

70. Enter Paradise, you and your spouses, filled with joy."

71. Golden dishes and cups will be passed around to them. There they'll have whatever their hearts desire, and whatever delights their eyes — and you'll stay there forever.

72. This is the Paradise you've been given, because of the things you used to do.

73. You'll have plenty of fruit there, and you'll eat from it.

74. But the criminals will stay forever in the punishment of Hell.

75. Their punishment won't be eased, and they'll lose all hope there.

76. We didn't wrong them — they wronged themselves.

77. They'll cry out, "Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!" He'll reply, "You'll stay here forever."

78. We brought you the truth, but most of you hated the truth.

79. Have they made a secret plan? Then We too have made Our plan.

80. Do they think We don't hear their secrets and whispers? Of course We do, and Our angels are right there, writing everything down.

81. Say, "If the Most Merciful had a child, I'd be the first to worship."

82. Glory to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne — He's far above what they say about Him.

83. So leave them to talk nonsense and play around, until they meet the Day they've been promised.

84. He is Allah in heaven, and Allah on earth, and He is the Wise, the All-Knowing.

85. Blessed is He Who rules the heavens, the earth, and everything between them. He alone knows when the Hour will come, and you'll all return to Him.

86. Those they pray to besides Allah have no power to speak for anyone — except those who speak the truth knowingly.

87. If you asked them, who created them, they'd surely say, "Allah." So why do they turn away?

88. And his saying, "My Lord, these people don't believe."

89. So forgive them, and say, "Peace." Soon they'll come to know.
