In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. This Book is sent down from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

3. He forgives sins, accepts repentance, and His punishment is severe. He is full of kindness. There is no god except Him, and to Him is the final return.

4. Only those who disbelieve argue about Allah's verses, so don't let their movements through the land deceive you.

5. Before them, Noah's people rejected the truth, and so did other groups after them. Each nation planned to harm their messenger. And they argued falsely, trying to defeat the truth. But then I seized them — how terrible was My punishment!

6. And so your Lord's word has come true against those who disbelieved — they are the people of the Fire.

7. The angels who carry Allah's throne, and those around it, praise their Lord's glory, believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for the believers, saying, "Our Lord, Your mercy and knowledge reach everywhere, so forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.

8. Our Lord, admit them into the Gardens of Eternity that You promised them, along with the righteous among their parents, spouses, and children. Truly, You are the Almighty, the Wise.

9. And protect them from evil deeds. Whoever You protect from evil deeds on that Day, You have surely shown mercy to them — and that is the greatest success."

10. Those who disbelieved will be called out, "Allah's anger toward you is greater than your anger toward yourselves — for you were invited to believe, but you refused."

11. They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice, and You gave us life twice, and now we admit our sins. Is there any way out for us?"

12. They will be answered, "This is because when Allah alone was called upon, you disbelieved, but when others were worshiped alongside Him, you believed. Now the judgment belongs to Allah, the Most High, the Greatest."

13. He is the One Who shows you His signs, and sends down from the sky blessings for you. But only those who turn back to Him truly remember.

14. So pray to Allah, worshiping Him sincerely, even if the disbelievers don't like it.

15. He is the Highest in rank, Lord of the Throne. By His command, He sends revelation to whichever of His servants He chooses, to warn of the Day of Meeting.

16. The Day when they will all come forward, and nothing about them will be hidden from Allah. "Who has control today?" It belongs to Allah alone, the One, the All-Powerful.

17. Today, every soul will be rewarded for exactly what it earned. No one will be treated unfairly today. Allah is swift in settling accounts.

18. Warn them of the approaching Day, when hearts will rise up to throats, choking with fear. On that Day, wrongdoers will have no caring friend, and no one to speak up for them whose words will be heard.

19. He knows the sneaky glances of the eyes, and everything hidden deep inside hearts.

20. Allah judges with truth, while those they pray to besides Him can't judge anything at all. Allah alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

21. Haven't they traveled through the land and seen what happened to those before them? Those earlier people were stronger than them, and left greater marks on the earth. Yet Allah punished them for their sins, and no one could protect them from Allah.

22. That was because their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they rejected them. So Allah took hold of them. Truly, He is powerful and severe in punishment.

23. We sent Moses with Our signs and clear authority.

24. To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun. But they said, "He's just a lying magician."

25. When Moses brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who believe with him, but let their daughters live." Yet the plans of disbelievers always end up lost.

26. Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses, and let him call upon his Lord. I'm afraid he'll change your religion, or spread trouble throughout the land."

27. Moses said, "I've asked my Lord and your Lord to protect me from every arrogant person who doesn't believe in the Day of Judgment."

28. A believing man from Pharaoh's people, who kept his faith hidden, said, "Will you kill someone just because he says, 'My Lord is Allah,' even though he has brought you clear signs from your Lord? If he's lying, then his lie will harm only him. But if he's telling the truth, some of what he warns you about will happen to you. Allah does not guide anyone who goes too far and lies."

29. "My people, today you have power and rule over the land. But who will protect us from Allah's punishment if it comes?" Pharaoh said, "I only show you what I see, and I only guide you to the right path."

30. The believing man said, "My people, I fear for you a day like the Day of the parties.

31. Like what happened to the people of Noah, Aad, Thamud, and those who came after them. Allah never wants to be unfair to His servants.

32. My people, I truly fear for you the Day when everyone will cry out.

33. The Day you'll turn and run away, with no one to protect you from Allah. Whoever Allah leaves to stray, no one can guide.

34. Before this, Joseph came to you with clear signs, but you kept doubting what he brought. When he died, you said, 'Allah won't send another messenger after him.' That's how Allah leaves those who cross limits and doubt to lose their way.

35. Those who argue about Allah's verses without any proof — this is greatly hated by Allah, and by those who believe. That's how Allah seals the heart of every proud and stubborn person."

36. Pharaoh said, "Haman, build me a high tower, so I can reach the pathways.

37. The pathways of the heavens — to look at Moses' God, though I really think he's lying." That's how Pharaoh's evil deeds were made appealing to him, and he was kept away from the right path. Pharaoh's plans led only to ruin.

38. The believing man said, "My people, follow me, and I'll guide you to the right path.

39. My people, this worldly life is only a short enjoyment, but the Hereafter is the true home that lasts forever.

40. Whoever does something bad, will only be repaid with something equal to it. But whoever does good — whether male or female — and believes, they will enter Paradise, where they'll be given endless blessings."

41. My people, why is it that I call you to rescue, but you call me to the Fire?

42. You invite me to reject Allah, and worship others besides Him — things I have no knowledge of — while I invite you to the Almighty, the Most Forgiving.

43. There's no doubt that what you call me to, has no legitimacy in this world, or the Hereafter. Our return is to Allah alone, and those who cross the limits will be people of the Fire.

44. Soon, you'll remember what I'm telling you now. I leave my matters to Allah — Allah sees clearly all His servants.

45. So Allah protected him from the evil plans they made, and Pharaoh's people were surrounded by terrible punishment.

46. They are exposed to the Fire, morning and evening. And on the Day the Hour arrives, it will be said, "Throw Pharaoh's people into the worst punishment!"

47. When they argue with each other in the Fire, the weak ones will say to those who were proud, "We were your followers, so can you take away even a little of this punishment from us?"

48. The proud ones will answer, "We're all in this together. Allah has already judged between His servants."

49. And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Ask your Lord to ease our punishment, even for just one day."

50. The keepers will reply, "Didn't your messengers come to you with clear signs?" They'll say, "Yes." Then the keepers will say, "Then you pray yourselves — but the prayers of the unbelievers are useless."

51. We will surely help Our messengers and those who believe, both in this worldly life, and on the Day when witnesses will stand.

52. On that Day, excuses won't help those who did wrong. They'll be cursed, and they'll have the worst home.

53. We certainly gave Moses guidance, and We passed down the Scripture to the Children of Israel.

54. As guidance and a reminder for people who understand.

55. So be patient — the promise of Allah is true. Ask forgiveness for your mistakes, and praise your Lord morning and evening.

56. Those who argue about Allah's verses without any proof — they have nothing in their hearts but pride, which they'll never attain. So seek protection with Allah. He is the One Who hears and sees everything.

57. Creating the heavens and the earth is far greater than creating humans, but most people don't realize it.

58. The blind and the seeing aren't equal, nor are those who believe and do good equal to those who do wrong — yet you hardly ever think about this.

59. The Hour is definitely coming, there's no doubt about it, but most people don't believe.

60. Your Lord says, "Call on Me, and I'll answer you. Those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, humiliated."

61. Allah made the night for you to rest in, and the day bright for you to see clearly. Allah is truly generous to people, but most people aren't thankful.

62. That is Allah, your Lord, the Creator of everything. There is no god except Him. So how can you turn away?

63. That's how those who reject Allah's verses are turned away.

64. Allah made the earth a safe home for you, and the sky a protective roof. He shaped you beautifully, and He provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord — blessed is Allah, Lord of all creation.

65. He is the Ever-Living. There is no god except Him, so worship Him sincerely, devoted only to Him. Praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all creation.

66. Say, "I've been forbidden to worship those you call on besides Allah, now that clear proof has come to me from my Lord. I've been commanded to submit completely to the Lord of all creation."

67. He created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then from a clot. Then He brings you out as babies, lets you grow until you're strong, and then lets you become old. Some of you pass away before that, but you all reach an appointed time, so you may understand.

68. He is the One Who gives life and causes death. When He decides something, He simply says, "Be," and it is.

69. Haven't you seen those who argue about Allah's verses? How can they be so misguided?

70. Those who reject the Book and the messages We sent through Our messengers — they'll soon come to know.

71. When the shackles are on their necks, and they're dragged by chains.

72. Into boiling water, then they'll be fueled in the Fire.

73. Then they'll be asked, "Where are those you used to worship.

74. Besides Allah?" They'll say, "They've left us. Actually, we weren't praying to anything real before." That's how Allah lets disbelievers lose their way.

75. This punishment is because you used to rejoice on earth without any right, and because you acted so arrogantly.

76. Enter through the gates of Hell, staying there forever. What a terrible home for those who were proud!

77. So be patient — the promise of Allah is true. Whether We show you some of what We promised them, or you pass away first, they'll all return to Us.

78. We've sent messengers before you — some we've told you about, and some we haven't. No messenger could bring a miracle without Allah's permission. And when Allah's command comes, everything is decided fairly — and those who followed lies will lose.

79. Allah made animals for you — some you ride, and some you eat.

80. They have many benefits for you, and by riding them you reach places you wish to visit. And on animals and ships, you're carried along.

81. He shows you His signs — so which of Allah's signs will you deny?

82. Haven't they traveled around the earth, and seen what happened to people before them? Those people were greater in number, stronger, and left bigger marks on earth. But all they earned didn't help them at all.

83. When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they felt proud of the knowledge they already had. But the very thing they laughed at surrounded them completely.

84. Then, when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allah alone, and we reject everything we used to worship besides Him!"

85. But their belief didn't help them at all, once they saw Our punishment. This is Allah's way, which has always been true for His servants — and at that moment, the disbelievers lost completely.
