In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.
1. O people, be mindful of your Lord, Who created you from a single soul, and from it created its partner, and from the two of them spread many men and women. Be mindful of Allah, in Whose name you ask each other, and honor family ties. Allah is always watching over you.
2. Give orphans their property, and don't replace their good things with your bad things. Don't mix their wealth with yours and take it unfairly — that would truly be a great sin.
3. If you're worried you won't be fair to orphan girls, marry women you like — two, three, or four. But if you're afraid you can't treat them equally, then marry just one, or those under your care. That's the best way to avoid injustice.
4. Give women their marriage gifts willingly and happily. But if they freely choose to give you back part of it, you may enjoy it gladly and comfortably.
5. Don't give your wealth — something Allah made to support you — to those who aren't responsible enough to handle it. Instead, provide for them, clothe them, and speak to them kindly.
6. Test orphans until they reach marriageable age. Then, if you see they're mature enough, hand over their property to them. Don't wastefully or quickly spend it before they grow up. If you're wealthy, avoid taking anything. If you're poor, take only what's fair. When you return their property, have witnesses present. Allah is enough to keep track of everything.
7. Men have a share in what their parents and close relatives leave behind, and women have a share in what their parents and close relatives leave behind — whether it's a little or a lot. These shares are set by Allah.
8. If relatives, orphans, or the needy are present when the inheritance is divided, give them something from it, and speak to them kindly.
9. Those who would worry about leaving behind weak children should fear Allah and speak honestly and fairly.
10. Those who unfairly take the property of orphans are only swallowing fire into their bellies, and they'll soon enter a blazing fire.
11. Allah gives you clear instructions about your children: a son should receive the share of two daughters. If there are only daughters, two or more, they receive two-thirds of what is left behind. If there is only one daughter, she receives half. Each parent receives one-sixth of what is left behind, if the deceased had children. But if there were no children, and the parents inherit everything, the mother receives one-third. If the deceased had brothers or sisters, the mother receives one-sixth. All these shares are calculated after fulfilling any will the deceased made or paying any debts. You don't know who among your parents or children will benefit you most. This is a rule set by Allah. Allah is always Knowing, Wise.
12. You inherit half of what your wives leave behind, if they had no children. But if they had children, you inherit one-fourth of what they leave, after fulfilling any will they made or paying any debts. Your wives inherit one-fourth of what you leave behind, if you had no children. But if you had children, they inherit one-eighth of what you leave, after fulfilling any will you made or paying any debts. If a man or woman leaves no children or parents, but has a brother or sister, each sibling receives one-sixth. If there are more siblings, they all share equally in one-third, after fulfilling any will made or paying any debts, without causing harm. This is a command from Allah. Allah is Knowing, Gentle.
13. These are the limits set by Allah. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will bring them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, where they will stay forever. That is the greatest success.
14. But whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, and crosses His limits, He will put them into a Fire, where they will stay forever. And they will have a humiliating punishment.
15. If any of your women commit adultery, call four witnesses from among you. If they testify, then keep those women in their homes until death takes them or until Allah provides another way for them.
16. And if two among you commit it, punish them both. But if they repent and set things right, then leave them alone. Allah is always ready to accept repentance, and He is deeply caring.
17. Repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong out of ignorance and then repent soon after. Allah will forgive them — He is all-knowing and wise.
18. But repentance isn't accepted from those who keep doing wrong until death comes to one of them, and then he says, "Now I repent," nor from those who die unbelievers. For them, We have prepared a painful punishment.
19. Believers, you're not allowed to inherit women against their will, nor should you treat them harshly to take back part of what you've given them — unless they commit clear shameful acts. Live with them in kindness. Even if you dislike them, perhaps you dislike something in which Allah placed much good.
20. If you decide to replace one wife with another, even if you've given the first one a great amount, don't take any of it back. Would you take it unjustly and by clear wrongdoing?
21. How could you take it back after you've shared your lives together, and they've taken from you a strong and serious promise?
22. And don't marry women whom your fathers married, except what happened in the past. It is shameful, hateful, and a terrible path to follow.
23. Forbidden for you to marry are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your foster mothers who nursed you, your foster sisters, your wives' mothers, your stepdaughters raised in your homes — born to wives you have been with — but if you haven't been with those wives, there's no blame on you; also forbidden are the wives of your own sons, and marrying two sisters at the same time, except what happened in the past. Allah is always forgiving and kind.
24. Also forbidden are married women, except those under your care. This is Allah's command for you. But beyond these, you're allowed to marry others, using your wealth honorably, not wrongly. So, whoever you marry and enjoy, give them their bridal gift as required. There's no blame if you both agree on something else afterward. Allah is always knowing and wise.
25. If any of you can't afford to marry free believing women, then marry believing young women under your care. Allah knows your faith best; you are equal to one another. Marry them with their family's permission, and give them their bridal gift fairly. Marry them honorably, not wrongly or secretly. If after marriage they commit a serious wrong, their punishment is half that of free women. This permission is for those among you who fear falling into sin, but being patient is better for you. Allah is forgiving and kind.
26. Allah wants to make things clear for you, to guide you along the good ways of those before you, and to turn to you in mercy. Allah is knowing and wise.
27. Allah wants to turn to you in mercy, but those who follow their own desires want you to drift far away from the right path.
28. Allah wants to make things easier for you, because human beings were created weak.
29. Believers, don't unfairly take each other's wealth — only trade fairly, with mutual agreement. And don't kill yourselves. Allah has always been merciful to you.
30. Whoever does these wrongs, aggressively and unjustly, We will surely send into the Fire. And that's easy for Allah.
31. If you avoid the major sins you've been warned against, We'll erase your mistakes and welcome you into a wonderful place.
32. Don't wish for what Allah has given others more than you. Men will have their share of what they earn, and women will have their share of what they earn. Ask Allah for His kindness — Allah knows everything perfectly.
33. For everyone, We have set heirs to inherit what parents and close relatives leave behind. And those with whom you've made formal agreements — give them their share as well. Allah witnesses everything.
34. Men are responsible for taking care of women, because Allah has given some people advantages over others, and because men spend from their wealth. Good women are devoted, guarding faithfully what Allah wants protected even when no one sees. If you're worried about women who behave badly, first advise them gently, then avoid sharing their beds, and finally discipline them. But if they listen to you, don't treat them unfairly. Allah is Most High, Most Great.
35. If you're worried about a couple breaking apart, send someone wise from his family and someone wise from her family. If they both truly want to fix things, Allah will help them find peace. Allah always knows, and He understands everything deeply.
36. Worship Allah, and don't worship anything besides Him. Be kind and caring to your parents, your relatives, orphans, the poor, neighbors who are close and neighbors who are farther away, your friends by your side, travelers in need, and those under your care. Allah doesn't love anyone who is proud and boastful.
37. Those who are stingy, who tell others to be stingy, and who hide the blessings Allah has given them — We have prepared a shameful punishment for those who reject Allah.
38. And those who spend their money just to show off to others, and don't believe in Allah or the Last Day — whoever has Satan as a companion has the worst companion possible.
39. What harm would it do them if they believed in Allah and the Last Day, and gave from what Allah has provided them? Allah knows them completely.
40. Allah never treats anyone unfairly, not even by the weight of a tiny speck. And if there's a good deed, He multiplies it and gives a great reward from Himself.
41. How will it be when We bring a witness from every community, and We bring you as a witness over these people?
42. On that Day, those who rejected Allah and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth would cover them. And they won't hide any statement from Allah.
43. Believers, don't pray when you're drunk, until you clearly know what you're saying. And don't pray when you're unclean — except if you're just passing through — until you've washed yourselves. But if you're sick, or traveling, or if one of you has just used the bathroom, or you've had contact with women, and you can't find water, then use clean earth and gently wipe your faces and hands. Allah is always forgiving and ready to pardon.
44. Haven't you seen those who were given a share of the Scripture? They choose to follow the wrong path, and they want you to lose your way too.
45. Allah knows your enemies best. And Allah is enough as a protector, and Allah is enough as a helper.
46. Some of the Jews twist words from their proper meanings. They say, "We hear and we disobey," and "Listen — may you never hear," and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and mocking the religion. If only they had said, "We hear and we obey," and "Listen," and "Unzurna," it would have been better and more honest for them. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so only a few of them believe.
47. You who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down, confirming what you already have, before We erase faces and turn them backward, or curse them as We cursed those who broke the Sabbath. And Allah's command always comes true.
48. Allah does not forgive anyone who worships others beside Him, but He forgives anything less serious than that for whoever He wills. Whoever worships others beside Allah has truly made up a terrible sin.
49. Haven't you seen those who praise themselves for being pure? But it is Allah Who purifies whoever He wills, and they won't be treated unfairly at all.
50. Look how they make up lies about Allah! That alone is clearly a serious sin.
51. Haven't you seen those who were given a share of the Scripture? They believe in false gods and evil powers, and they say about the disbelievers, "These people are better guided than the believers."
52. Those are the ones Allah has cursed, and whoever Allah curses, you will never find anyone to help them.
53. Do they have a share of the kingdom? If they did, they wouldn't give people even the tiniest bit.
54. Or are they jealous of people because of what Allah has given them from His kindness? We gave Abraham's family the Scripture and wisdom, and We gave them a great kingdom.
55. Some of them believed in it, and some turned away from it. And Hellfire is enough as a blazing punishment.
56. Those who reject Our verses, We will soon throw them into the Fire. Every time their skin is burned away, We will replace it with new skin, so they keep feeling the punishment. Allah is truly powerful and wise.
57. But those who believe and do good deeds, We will bring them into gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, where they will stay forever. There they will have pure companions, and We will welcome them into cool, peaceful shade.
58. Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners, and when you judge between people, judge fairly. Allah gives you the best advice — He hears and sees everything.
59. Believers, obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those among you who have authority. If you disagree about anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and leads to the best outcome.
60. Haven't you seen those who claim they believe in what was revealed to you and what was revealed before you, yet they want to seek judgment from false powers — even though they were told to reject them? Satan wants to lead them far away from the truth.
61. When they're told, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," you see the hypocrites turning away from you completely.
62. How will they feel when trouble comes to them because of what they've done? Then they'll come to you, swearing by Allah, "We only wanted kindness and harmony!"
63. Allah knows exactly what's in their hearts, so turn away from them, but still advise them, and speak to them words that touch their hearts deeply.
64. We only sent messengers so they would be obeyed by Allah's permission. If only those who wronged themselves had come to you, asked Allah for forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah always ready to accept repentance, full of mercy.
65. But no — by your Lord — they won't truly believe until they accept you as judge in all their disagreements, and then feel no resistance in their hearts against your decisions, accepting them completely.
66. If We had commanded them, "Give up your lives," or "Leave your homes," only a few would have done it. But if they had done what they were advised, it would have been better for them and made their faith stronger.
67. Then We would have given them a great reward from Us.
68. And guided them to a straight path.
69. Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be with those Allah has blessed — the prophets, the truthful, the witnesses, and the good people. What wonderful friends they are!
70. This is a special favor from Allah — and Allah is enough as the One Who knows everything.
71. O believers, stay alert and careful. Go out to battle in small groups, or all together.
72. Some among you will definitely hesitate. Then, if something bad happens to you, they'll say, "Allah has been kind to me — I wasn't there with them to witness what happened."
73. But if something good comes to you from Allah, they'll say — as if there was never any friendship between you — "Oh, I wish I'd been with them, so I could have won a great victory!"
74. Those who trade this worldly life for the Hereafter should fight in Allah's way. Whoever fights for Allah's cause — whether they're killed or win — We will surely give them a great reward.
75. What's stopping you from fighting for Allah's cause, when the weak and helpless men, women, and children who cry out, "Our Lord, rescue us from this town whose people are cruel, and give us a protector from You, and give us a helper from You"?
76. Those who believe fight for Allah's cause, while those who disbelieve fight for the cause of false gods. So fight against Satan's friends — Satan's plans are truly weak.
77. Haven't you seen those who were told, "Hold back your hands, pray regularly, and give charity"? But when fighting was commanded for them, some of them feared people as much as — or even more than — they feared Allah. They said, "Our Lord, why did You command us to fight? Couldn't You have delayed it just a little longer?" Say, "The enjoyment of this world is short, but the Hereafter is far better for those who are mindful of Allah. You won't be treated unfairly, not even a tiny bit."
78. Wherever you are, death will find you — even if you're in strong, high towers. When something good happens to them, they say, "This is from Allah," but when something bad happens, they say, "This is your fault." Say, "Everything comes from Allah." What's wrong with these people that they can hardly understand anything?
79. Whatever good comes to you is from Allah, and whatever bad happens to you is from yourself. We've sent you as a messenger to the people, and Allah is enough as a witness.
80. Whoever obeys the Messenger has truly obeyed Allah. But whoever turns away — We didn't send you to watch over them.
81. They say, "We obey," but when they leave your presence, some of them secretly plan the opposite of what you said. Allah writes down everything they secretly plan. So turn away from them, and trust in Allah — Allah is enough to take care of everything.
82. Don't they think deeply about the Quran? If it had come from anyone other than Allah, they would have found many contradictions in it.
83. When news comes to them about safety or danger, they quickly spread it around. But if they had brought it to the Messenger and those in charge, the ones who understand things deeply would have known what to do. If it weren't for Allah's kindness and mercy toward you, most of you would have followed Satan.
84. So fight in Allah's way — you are responsible only for yourself — and encourage the believers. Perhaps Allah will stop the power of those who disbelieve. Allah is stronger in power and stronger in punishment.
85. Whoever helps with a good cause will share in its reward, and whoever helps with a bad cause will share in its blame. Allah watches over everything.
86. When someone greets you, greet them back with something better — or at least return the same greeting. Allah keeps track of everything.
87. Allah — there is no god except Him. He will surely gather you all together on the Day of Judgment, about which there is no doubt. Who could speak more truthfully than Allah?
88. Why are you divided into two groups about the hypocrites? Allah has turned them back to disbelief because of what they did. Do you want to guide those whom Allah has allowed to lose their way? Whoever Allah lets go astray — you will never find a way for them.
89. They wish you would disbelieve just as they disbelieved, so you would all be the same. Don't take them as friends until they leave their homes to follow Allah's way. But if they turn against you, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them. Don't take any of them as friends or helpers.
90. Except for those who join people with whom you have a peace agreement, or those who come to you with hearts unwilling to fight you or their own people. If Allah had wanted, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So, if they leave you alone, don't fight you, and offer you peace, then Allah gives you no reason to fight against them.
91. You will find others who want to feel safe from you and safe from their own people. But whenever they are tempted back into trouble, they fall right into it. So, if they don't leave you alone, offer you peace, and hold back their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them. Against these people, We have given you clear permission.
92. A believer should never kill another believer, except by accident. If someone accidentally kills a believer, they must free a believing captive and pay compensation to the victim's family, unless the family willingly forgives it. If the victim belonged to people who are your enemies — but he was a believer — then free a believing captive. If he belonged to people who have a peace treaty with you, then pay compensation to his family and free a believing captive. Anyone who can't afford this must fast for two months straight, as repentance to Allah. Allah is always Knowing and Wise.
93. Whoever kills a believer on purpose, their punishment is Hell, staying there forever. Allah is angry with them, curses them, and has prepared for them a terrible punishment.
94. Believers, when you travel in Allah's way, be careful and don't say to someone who greets you with peace, "You're not a believer," just because you want worldly gains. Allah has plenty of rewards. Remember, you used to be like that too, until Allah blessed you. So be careful. Allah is fully aware of everything you do.
95. Those believers who stay behind — except those who have a disability — are not equal to those who struggle in Allah's way with their wealth and their lives. Allah has honored those who struggle with their wealth and lives above those who stay behind, giving them a higher rank. Yet Allah promises good to both. But He gives those who struggle a much greater reward.
96. Higher ranks from Him, forgiveness, and mercy. Allah is always Forgiving and Merciful.
97. When angels take the souls of those who wronged themselves, they ask them, "What were you doing?" They reply, "We were weak and helpless on earth." The angels say, "Wasn't Allah's earth wide enough for you to move somewhere else?" Their home will be Hell — a terrible destination.
98. Except the helpless men, women, and children who have no way out and can't find a path to leave.
99. For them, Allah may forgive. Allah is always Pardoning and Forgiving.
100. Whoever migrates in Allah's way will find many safe places and plenty of opportunities on earth. And whoever leaves home, migrating toward Allah and His Messenger, and then dies along the way — their reward is guaranteed by Allah. Allah is always Forgiving and Merciful.
101. When you travel through the land, there's no blame on you if you shorten your prayers, if you're worried that those who disbelieve might harm you. The disbelievers are clearly your enemies.
102. When you're among the believers and lead them in prayer, let one group stand with you, holding their weapons. After they bow down, let them move behind you, and let another group who hasn't prayed yet come forward and pray with you, staying alert and holding their weapons. Those who disbelieve would love to see you forget your weapons and belongings, so they could attack you all at once. But there's no blame on you if you're troubled by rain or illness and put down your weapons — just stay careful. Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers.
103. When you've finished your prayers, remember Allah — standing, sitting, or lying down. Then, when you're safe again, perform your prayers fully. Prayer is a duty set at specific times for believers.
104. Don't lose heart in chasing after your enemies. If you're hurting, remember they're hurting just like you — but you can hope for something from Allah that they can't. Allah is always Knowing and Wise.
105. We sent down the Book to you with truth, so you can judge between people by what Allah has shown you. Don't defend those who betray trust.
106. Ask Allah for forgiveness. Allah is always Forgiving and Merciful.
107. Don't argue on behalf of those who cheat themselves. Allah doesn't love anyone who's dishonest and sinful.
108. They hide from people, but they can't hide from Allah. He's with them when they secretly plan things He doesn't approve of. Allah surrounds everything they do.
109. Here you are, arguing for them in this life — but who will argue for them with Allah on the Day of Judgment? Who will protect them then?
110. Whoever does something wrong, or does wrong to themselves, then asks Allah for forgiveness, they'll find Allah always Forgiving and Merciful.
111. Whoever commits a sin only harms themselves. Allah is always Knowing and Wise.
112. Whoever commits a mistake or a sin, then blames it on an innocent person, has taken on a terrible lie and a clear sin.
113. If it wasn't for Allah's favor and mercy towards you, a group of them would have tried to lead you astray — but they only mislead themselves, and they can't harm you at all. Allah has sent down to you the Book and wisdom, and taught you things you never knew. Allah's favor upon you is truly great.
114. There is no good in most of their secret talks — except when someone encourages charity, kindness, or making peace between people. Whoever does these things, seeking Allah's approval, We will surely give them a great reward.
115. But whoever opposes the Messenger after the right path has become clear to them, and follows a way different from the believers, We will let them go the way they've chosen, and We will send them into Hell — what a terrible place to end up!
116. Allah does not forgive anyone who worships others alongside Him, but He forgives anything else for whoever He wishes. Whoever worships others besides Allah has truly wandered far away from the right path.
117. They only pray to powerless beings instead of Him — they only pray to a rebellious devil.
118. Whom Allah has cursed. And the devil said, "I will definitely take for myself a share of Your servants.
119. I will surely mislead them, fill them with false hopes, command them to cut the ears of cattle, and order them to change Allah's creation." Whoever chooses Satan as a protector instead of Allah has clearly suffered a huge loss.
120. Satan makes promises to them and fills them with false hopes — but Satan's promises are nothing but lies.
121. Those people will end up in Hell, and they won't find any escape from it.
122. But those who believe and do good deeds, We will bring them into beautiful Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, where they will stay forever. This is Allah's true promise — and who could speak more truthfully than Allah?
123. Things are not according to your wishes or the wishes of the People of the Book. Whoever does wrong will be repaid for it, and they won't find any protector or helper besides Allah.
124. But whoever does good deeds — whether male or female — and believes, they will enter Paradise, and they won't be treated unfairly, not even by the smallest amount.
125. Who could be better in faith than the one who completely gives themselves to Allah, does good, and follows the pure faith of Abraham? Allah chose Abraham as a close friend.
126. Everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to Allah, and Allah surrounds and knows everything completely.
127. They ask you for guidance about women. Say, "Allah Himself guides you about them, and so does what is recited to you in the Book about orphan girls — you don't give them what is rightfully theirs, yet you wish to marry them — and about helpless children, and about treating orphans fairly." Whatever good you do, Allah surely knows it.
128. If a woman fears cruelty or neglect from her husband, there's nothing wrong if they both agree to make peace between themselves — and making peace is always better. Hearts naturally lean toward selfishness, but if you do good and stay mindful of Allah, then know that Allah is fully aware of everything you do.
129. You can never treat your wives equally, even if you really want to. But don't lean completely toward one, leaving another feeling forgotten and alone. If you make things right and stay mindful of Allah, then surely Allah is forgiving and kind.
130. If a husband and wife do separate, Allah will provide generously for each from His abundant blessings. Allah is truly generous and wise.
131. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. We instructed those who received the Scripture before you — and we instruct you — to always be mindful of Allah. But even if you refuse to believe, remember that everything in the heavens and the earth still belongs to Allah. Allah is completely self-sufficient and worthy of all praise.
132. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, and Allah alone is enough to trust and rely on.
133. If He wanted, He could remove you all, people, and bring others in your place. Allah certainly has the power to do that.
134. Whoever desires rewards in this world should know that with Allah are the rewards of both this world and the Hereafter. Allah hears and sees everything.
135. Believers, always stand firmly for justice, as witnesses for Allah — even if it's against yourselves, your parents, or your closest family. Whether someone is rich or poor, Allah knows best how to care for both. So don't follow your own desires instead of being fair. If you twist the truth or turn away, remember — Allah is fully aware of everything you do.
136. Believers, believe in Allah and His Messenger, and in the Book He sent down to His Messenger, and in the Books He revealed before. Anyone who rejects Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, and the Last Day has wandered far away from the right path.
137. Those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe again, then disbelieve again, and then grow stronger in disbelief — Allah will not forgive them or guide them to the right way.
138. Tell the hypocrites clearly — they will face a painful punishment.
139. They choose disbelievers as friends instead of believers. Do they seek honor from them? All honor truly belongs to Allah alone.
140. Allah has revealed to you in the Book that when you hear people rejecting and mocking Allah's verses, don't sit with them until they start talking about something else. Otherwise, you'll become just like them. Allah will gather all hypocrites and disbelievers together in Hellfire.
141. These hypocrites watch and wait to see what happens to you. If Allah gives you victory, they say, "Weren't we with you?" But if the disbelievers gain something, they say to them, "Didn't we help you and protect you from the believers?" Allah will judge between you on the Day of Judgment. And Allah will never give disbelievers an advantage over the believers.
142. The hypocrites try to deceive Allah, but He is the One Who deceives them. When they stand up to pray, they stand lazily, showing off to people, and they hardly remember Allah at all.
143. They keep wavering back and forth — not fully with these people nor fully with those people. Whoever Allah leaves to wander, you'll never find a way for them.
144. Believers, don't take disbelievers as your close friends instead of believers. Do you want to give Allah clear proof against yourselves?
145. The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire, and you'll never find anyone to help them.
146. Except those who turn back to Allah, fix their ways, hold tightly to Allah, and sincerely devote their faith to Him — those people will be with the believers. And soon, Allah will give the believers a great reward.
147. Why would Allah punish you if you're grateful and truly believe? Allah is always appreciative and knows everything.
148. Allah does not like people speaking openly about bad things, except when someone has been treated unfairly. Allah hears everything and knows everything.
149. If you show kindness openly, or hide it, or forgive someone who has hurt you — Allah is always forgiving and powerful.
150. Those who reject Allah and His messengers, who want to separate Allah from His messengers, saying, "We believe in some but reject others," trying to find a middle way.
151. They are truly unbelievers. And We have prepared a humiliating punishment for unbelievers.
152. But those who believe in Allah and His messengers, and make no difference between any of them — Allah will surely give them their rewards. Allah is always forgiving and caring.
153. The People of the Book ask you to bring down a book from heaven for them. They asked Moses for something even bigger than that — they said, "Show us Allah openly!" So lightning struck them because of their wrongdoing. Then, even after clear signs had come to them, they worshiped the calf — but We forgave them for that, and We gave Moses clear authority.
154. We raised the mountain above them because they made their promise, and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly," and We told them, "Don't break the Sabbath," and We took from them a serious promise.
155. But because they broke their promise, rejected Allah's verses, killed prophets unfairly, and said, "Our hearts are covered," — no, Allah sealed their hearts because of their disbelief, so only a few of them believe.
156. And because of their disbelief and the terrible lies they said about Mary.
157. And because they said, "We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, Allah's messenger." But they didn't kill him, nor did they crucify him — it only appeared that way to them. Those who disagree about this are full of doubts. They have no real knowledge about it, only guesses. They certainly didn't kill him.
158. Instead, Allah raised him up to Himself. Allah is mighty and wise.
159. Every one of the People of the Book will believe in him before his death — and on the Day of Judgment, he will be a witness against them.
160. Because of the wrongdoing of the Jews, We made forbidden for them some good things that had been allowed before, and because they kept many people away from Allah's path.
161. And because they took interest even though they were forbidden from it, and wrongly took people's wealth. We have prepared a painful punishment for the unbelievers among them.
162. But those among them who have deep knowledge, and the believers — they believe in what was revealed to you and what was revealed before you. They pray regularly, give charity, and believe in Allah and the Last Day. We will give them a great reward.
163. We have revealed to you, just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the tribes, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon. And We gave David the Psalms.
164. And there are messengers whose stories We have already told you, and others whose stories We haven't told you. And Allah spoke directly to Moses.
165. These messengers brought good news and warnings, so that people would have no excuse before Allah after the messengers had come. Allah is always Mighty and Wise.
166. But Allah Himself testifies to what He has sent down to you — He sent it with His knowledge — and the angels testify as well. And Allah is enough as a witness.
167. Those who disbelieve and turn others away from Allah's path have truly gone far astray.
168. Those who disbelieve and do wrong — Allah will not forgive them, nor will He guide them to any path.
169. Except the path to Hell, where they will stay forever. And that is easy for Allah.
170. O people, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe — it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then know that everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. And Allah is always Knowing and Wise.
171. People of the Scripture, don't go too far in your religion, and don't say anything about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word that He sent to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and don't say "Three." Stop — it's better for you. Allah is only One God. Glory be to Him! He is far above having a child. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him, and Allah is enough to take care of everything.
172. The Messiah would never be too proud to be Allah's servant, nor would the angels who are close to Him. Anyone who is too proud to worship Allah and acts arrogantly — He will gather them all before Him.
173. As for those who believed and did good deeds, He will give them their rewards in full, and even more from His kindness. But those who were too proud and arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they won't find anyone besides Allah to protect or help them.
174. People, clear proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a bright, guiding light.
175. Those who believe in Allah and hold tightly to Him — He will bring them into His mercy and kindness, and guide them along a straight path.
176. They ask you for guidance. Say, "Allah guides you about those who die without children: If a man dies and has no child but has a sister, she gets half of what he leaves behind. And he inherits from her if she has no child. If there are two sisters, they get two-thirds of what he leaves. If there are brothers and sisters, the male gets twice the share of the female." Allah makes this clear to you, so you won't lose your way. Allah knows everything.
