In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.
1. O people, be mindful of your Lord! The shaking of the Hour will be something huge.
2. On that Day, you'll see every nursing mother forget the baby she's nursing, and every pregnant woman will lose her unborn child. You'll see people acting drunk, even though they're not drunk — but Allah's punishment is truly severe.
3. Some people argue about Allah without any knowledge, and they follow every rebellious devil.
4. It's already decided about the devil: whoever takes him as a friend — he will lead them astray, and guide them into the punishment of the blazing Fire.
5. O people, if you're unsure about being raised to life again, remember: We created you first from dust, then from a tiny drop, then from a small clinging form, then from a lump of flesh — some shaped and some not yet shaped — to make things clear for you. We keep whatever We choose in the wombs for a set time, then We bring you out as babies, then you grow until you reach your strongest age. Some of you pass away early, and some of you live until old age, forgetting everything you once knew. And you see the earth dry and lifeless — but when We send down rain, it stirs, swells, and grows beautiful plants of every kind.
6. This is because Allah is the Truth, He brings the dead back to life, and He has power over everything.
7. And the Hour is definitely coming — there's no doubt about it — and Allah will raise everyone who's in their graves.
8. Still, some people argue about Allah without knowledge, without guidance, and without any enlightening book.
9. They turn away arrogantly, trying to lead others away from Allah's path. They'll face shame in this world, and on the Day of Judgment, We'll make them taste the burning punishment.
10. This is because of what your own hands have done — and Allah is never unfair to His servants.
11. And some people worship Allah only halfway: if something good happens to them, they feel happy and secure, but if they're tested with hardship, they turn away completely. They've lost both this world and the Hereafter — that's the clearest loss of all.
12. They pray to things besides Allah that can't harm them or help them at all — that's the far-off misguidance.
13. They call on things whose harm is closer than their help — what a terrible protector, and what an awful friend!
14. But Allah will surely bring those who believe and do good deeds into beautiful gardens with rivers flowing beneath them — Allah does whatever He wants.
15. Whoever thinks that Allah won't help him in this life and the next, let them stretch a rope up to the sky, then cut it off, and see if their anger can remove what frustrates them.
16. And this is how We sent down clear verses — and Allah guides whoever He wishes.
17. Those who believe, and those who are Jews, Sabians, Christians, Magians, and those who worship idols — Allah will judge clearly between them on the Day of Judgment. Allah sees and knows everything.
18. Don't you see that everything in the heavens and on earth prostrates to Allah — the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the animals, and many people? But many others deserve punishment. Whoever Allah disgraces, no one can honor. Allah does whatever He wills.
19. These two groups argue about their Lord. For those who disbelieve, clothes of fire will be cut out for them, and boiling water will be poured over their heads.
20. Melting away what is inside their bodies, as well as their skin.
21. And they will have iron rods.
22. Every time they try to escape from their suffering, they will be forced back into it: "Taste the punishment of burning!"
23. But Allah will bring those who believe and do good into beautiful Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. There, they will wear bracelets of gold and pearls, and their clothes will be made of silk.
24. They were guided to the good word, and they were guided to the path of the One Worthy of all praise.
25. Those who disbelieve and block others from Allah's way, and from the Sacred Mosque — which We made equally open for everyone, whether they live nearby or far away — whoever tries to do wrong there, We will make them taste a painful punishment.
26. Remember when We showed Abraham the place of the Sacred House, saying, "Do not worship anything besides Me, and keep My House clean for those who circle it, those who stand in prayer, and those who bow and prostrate."
27. And announce the pilgrimage to all people — they will come to you on foot and riding lean camels, traveling from every distant path.
28. So they can witness benefits for themselves, and remember Allah's name on certain days, over the animals He has provided for them. Eat from these animals, and feed the needy and the poor.
29. Then let them complete their acts of cleanliness, fulfill their promises, and circle around the Ancient House.
30. All this — whoever honors the sacred things of Allah, it is better for them with their Lord. Animals are allowed for you to eat, except those clearly forbidden to you. So stay away from the filth of idols, and avoid speaking lies.
31. Be completely devoted to Allah, associating nothing with Him. Whoever worships others besides Allah, it is as if they fell from the sky, then birds snatched them away, or the wind blew them to a far-off, lonely place.
32. That is how it is. Whoever honors Allah's sacred symbols, it shows the piety in their heart.
33. You have benefits in these animals for a set time, then their place of sacrifice is at the Ancient House.
34. For every community, We set a way of worship, so they may mention Allah's name over the livestock He provided them. Your God is One God, so submit yourselves to Him alone. And give good news to those who are humble.
35. Those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, who patiently endure whatever happens to them, who pray regularly, and who spend from what We have given them.
36. We have made the sacrificial animals part of Allah's sacred symbols for you. In them is much good for you. So mention Allah's name over them when they stand ready for sacrifice. Then, after they have fallen down, eat from their meat and feed those who are content and those who ask. We have made these animals available to you, so you may be thankful.
37. Their meat and blood don't reach Allah. What reaches Him is your sincere devotion. He has made them available to you, so you may glorify Allah for guiding you. And give good news to those who do good.
38. Allah defends those who believe. Allah does not love anyone who is dishonest and ungrateful.
39. Permission is given to those who are being fought against. And Allah is truly able to help them.
40. Those who were driven from their homes unfairly, just because they said, "Our Lord is Allah." If it were not for Allah pushing back some people by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques — places where Allah's name is often remembered — would have been destroyed. Allah will surely help those who help Him. Allah is truly Powerful, Almighty.
41. They are the ones who, if We give them authority in the land, pray regularly, give charity, encourage what is right, and forbid what is wrong. And the final outcome of all things belongs to Allah.
42. If they call you a liar, remember that before them, the people of Noah, Aad, and Thamud also called their messengers liars.
43. And so did the people of Abraham and the people of Lot.
44. And the people of Midian. Moses was also called a liar. I gave those who rejected the truth some time, but then I seized them. How terrible was My punishment!
45. How many towns We destroyed because they did wrong! Now they lie in ruins, their roofs fallen in, their wells abandoned, and their grand palaces empty.
46. Haven't they traveled through the land, so their hearts could understand and their ears could truly listen? It's not eyes that become blind, but the hearts inside people's chests that lose sight.
47. They ask you to hurry up the punishment, but Allah will never break His promise. Remember, one day with your Lord is like a thousand years by your counting.
48. How many towns did I give extra time, even though they were doing wrong? But then I took them to account — and to Me is the return.
49. Say, "People, I am only here to clearly warn you."
50. Those who believe and do good deeds will have forgiveness and a generous reward.
51. But those who try to challenge Our verses — they are the companions of the blazing Fire.
52. Whenever We sent a messenger or prophet before you, Satan tried to interfere with his hopes. But Allah removes whatever Satan throws in, and then Allah makes His verses perfectly clear. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
53. He allows Satan's interference as a trial for those whose hearts are sick or hard. Truly, those who do wrong are far away in their opposition.
54. And He allows this so that those who have been given knowledge will know it is the truth from your Lord, believe in it, and their hearts will humbly accept it. Allah surely guides those who believe to a straight path.
55. But those who disbelieve will keep doubting it until the Hour suddenly comes upon them, or until the punishment of a terrible day reaches them.
56. On that Day, all authority belongs to Allah. He will judge between them. Those who believed and did good deeds will be in beautiful gardens of happiness.
57. But those who disbelieved and rejected Our verses — they will have a humiliating punishment.
58. Those who left their homes for Allah's sake, and then were killed or died, Allah will surely provide them with a wonderful provision. Allah is the best provider.
59. He will definitely bring them into a place they will love. Allah is All-Knowing, Most Patient.
60. That is how it is. And whoever responds to injustice only equal to what was done to them, but then is wronged again — Allah will surely help them. Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.
61. That is because Allah makes the night flow into the day, and the day flow into the night, and because Allah hears and sees everything.
62. That is because Allah is the Truth, and whatever they call upon besides Him is false. Allah is the Most High, the Greatest.
63. Don't you see how Allah sends down rain from the sky, and then the earth becomes green? Allah is Gentle, Fully Aware.
64. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. Allah alone is Rich, Worthy of all praise.
65. Don't you see how Allah has made everything on earth useful to you? And how the ships sail smoothly across the sea by His command? He holds the sky from falling onto the earth, except by His permission. Truly, Allah is gentle and caring toward people.
66. He is the One Who gave you life, then causes you to die, and then brings you back to life again. Yet humans are truly ungrateful.
67. For every community, We set ways of worship that they follow. So don't let them argue with you about this matter. Keep inviting people to your Lord — you are surely on the right path.
68. And if they still argue with you, say, "Allah knows best what you are doing."
69. Allah will judge between you all on the Day of Judgment about everything you disagreed on.
70. Don't you know that Allah knows everything in the heavens and the earth? All of it is recorded clearly in a Book. This is easy for Allah.
71. Yet they worship things besides Allah — things He never gave permission for, and things they have no knowledge about. Those who do wrong will have no helper.
72. When Our clear verses are recited to them, you can see the rejection on the faces of those who disbelieve. They almost attack those who recite Our verses to them. Say, "Should I tell you something worse than this? It is the Fire — Allah has promised it to those who disbelieve. What a terrible place to end up!"
73. People, here is an example, so listen carefully: Those you call on besides Allah could never create even a fly, even if they all worked together. And if a fly took something away from them, they couldn't even get it back. How weak are those who ask, and how weak are those they ask from!
74. They haven't respected Allah as He deserves. Truly, Allah is strong and mighty.
75. Allah chooses messengers from among angels and from among people. Allah hears everything and sees everything.
76. He knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them. And all matters return to Allah.
77. Believers, bow down, prostrate, worship your Lord, and do good deeds so that you may succeed.
78. Strive for Allah with the effort He truly deserves. He has chosen you and made your religion easy for you — the way of your father Abraham. Allah named you Muslims before, and also in this, so that the Messenger can be a witness for you, and you can be witnesses for all people. So pray regularly, give charity, and hold firmly to Allah. He is your Protector — the best Protector and the best Helper!
