In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.

1. Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a clear Quran.

2. Someday, those who disbelieved will wish they had been Muslims.

3. Let them eat and enjoy themselves, and let their hopes distract them — soon they'll understand.

4. We never destroyed any town without it having a set time.

5. No community can hurry its time, nor delay it.

6. They say, "Hey you, the one who received this message — you're crazy!

7. Why don't you bring angels to us, if you're telling the truth?"

8. We only send angels with the truth, and then they wouldn't be given more time.

9. We are the Ones Who sent down this message, and We will surely protect it.

10. We sent messengers before you to earlier communities.

11. But whenever a messenger came to them, they just laughed at him.

12. That's how We let it enter the hearts of those who do wrong.

13. They won't believe in it, even though this was the way of earlier people.

14. Even if We opened a gate to heaven for them, and they kept climbing up through it.

15. They would still say, "Our eyes are tricking us! No, we've been put under a spell!"

16. We placed constellations in the sky, and made them beautiful for everyone who looks up.

17. And We protected them from every cursed devil.

18. Except the one who tries to secretly listen — then a bright shooting star chases him away.

19. We spread out the earth, placed firm mountains on it, and made all kinds of balanced things grow there.

20. And We provided ways for you to live there, and for others you don't provide for.

21. Everything has treasures stored with Us, and We only send it down in measured amounts.

22. We send winds to carry pollen, bring down water from the sky, and give it to you to drink — you don't store it yourselves.

23. We alone give life and cause death, and We will inherit everything.

24. We know exactly who came before you, and We know exactly who will come later.

25. Your Lord will surely gather them all together — He is Wise and All-Knowing.

26. We created the human being from clay, molded from dark, smooth mud.

27. And We created the jinn earlier, from scorching fire.

28. Remember when your Lord said to the angels, "I am creating a human being from clay, from dark, smooth mud.

29. When I have shaped him and breathed into him from My spirit, bow down to him."

30. So all the angels bowed down together.

31. Except Iblis. He refused to join those who bowed.

32. Allah said, "Iblis, why aren't you among those who bowed?"

33. He replied, "I won't bow to a human You created from clay, from dark, smooth mud."

34. Allah said, "Then get out from here — you are cast out.

35. And My curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment."

36. Iblis said, "My Lord, then give me time until the Day they are raised again."

37. Allah said, "You are given time.

38. Until the Day of the known appointed time."

39. Iblis said, "My Lord, because You allowed me to go astray, I will make wrong things seem beautiful to them on earth, and I will mislead them all.

40. Except Your sincere servants among them."

41. Allah said, "This is My path, leading straight to Me.

42. You will have no power over My servants, except those who follow you and lose their way.

43. And Hellfire is surely the promised place for all of them.

44. It has seven gates, and each gate has a group assigned to it."

45. Truly, those who are mindful of Allah will be in beautiful gardens with flowing springs.

46. They will be told, "Enter it in peace, safe and secure."

47. We will remove any bitterness from their hearts, and they will sit as brothers on couches, facing each other.

48. No tiredness will ever touch them there, nor will they ever be made to leave.

49. Tell My servants that I am truly the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

50. And that My punishment is the painful punishment.

51. Tell them about Abraham's guests.

52. When they came to him, they greeted him, "Peace!" He said, "We're afraid of you."

53. They replied, "Don't be afraid! We're bringing you good news of a wise son."

54. Abraham said, "Are you giving me good news even though I've become old? What kind of good news is this?"

55. They answered, "We've given you true good news, so don't lose hope."

56. He said, "Who loses hope in their Lord's mercy, except those who've lost their way?"

57. Abraham asked, "Then what's your mission, messengers?"

58. They said, "We've been sent to punish guilty people."

59. "Except for Lot's family — we'll save them all."

60. "Except his wife. We've decided she'll stay behind."

61. When the messengers came to Lot's family.

62. Lot said, "You're strangers to me."

63. They replied, "We've come with the punishment they kept doubting."

64. "We've brought you the truth, and we're telling you honestly."

65. "Leave with your family late at night. Follow behind them, and don't let anyone look back. Go where you're told."

66. We made it clear to him that by morning, those people's end would come.

67. Then the townspeople came, happily excited.

68. Lot said, "These are my guests — don't embarrass me."

69. "Fear Allah, and don't shame me."

70. They said, "Didn't we tell you not to protect outsiders?"

71. Lot said, "Here are my daughters, if you must do something."

72. By your life, they were blindly lost in their madness.

73. Then at sunrise, a terrible blast overtook them.

74. We turned their city upside down, and We rained stones of baked clay upon them.

75. Surely, there are clear signs in this for those who pay attention.

76. And that ruined city still lies along a known road.

77. Surely, there's a lesson in this for believers.

78. The people of the forest were also wrongdoers.

79. So We punished them too. Both places are on a well-known road.

80. The people of Al-Hijr also denied the messengers.

81. We gave them clear signs, but they turned away from them.

82. They carved safe houses into mountains.

83. But a mighty blast overtook them at dawn.

84. And all they'd built couldn't save them.

85. We created the heavens, the earth, and everything between them for a true purpose. The Hour of Judgment is surely coming, so forgive kindly.

86. Your Lord is the Creator of everything, the All-Knowing.

87. We've given you the seven often-repeated verses and the great Quran.

88. Don't look longingly at the things We've given some people to enjoy. Don't feel sad about them, and be gentle and kind to the believers.

89. Say, "I'm clearly here to warn you."

90. Just as We sent down to those who divided the message.

91. Those who broke the Quran into pieces.

92. By your Lord, We'll surely question them all.

93. About everything they did.

94. So speak openly about what you're commanded, and turn away from those who worship idols.

95. We'll protect you from those who mock.

96. Those who set up another god beside Allah. Soon they'll know.

97. We know your heart feels tight because of what they say.

98. So glorify your Lord with praise, and be among those who bow down in prayer.

99. And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
