In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind.
1. Alif. Lam. Meem. Ra. These are the verses of the Book. What has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most people don't believe.
2. Allah is the One Who raised the heavens without pillars that you can see, then He established Himself upon the Throne. He made the sun and the moon follow His command — each moving for a set time. He directs everything and clearly shows His signs, so you may be certain you'll meet your Lord.
3. And He is the One Who spread out the earth, placed firm mountains and rivers on it, and created pairs of every kind of fruit. He covers the day with the night. Truly, in all this are signs for people who think deeply.
4. On the earth, there are neighboring lands, gardens of grapevines, fields of crops, and date palms — some growing together, others separately — all watered by the same water. Yet We make some fruits taste better than others. Truly, in this are signs for people who use their minds.
5. If you're amazed, then amazing is their saying, "When we become dust, will we really be created again?" These are the ones who disbelieve in their Lord. They will have chains around their necks, and they'll be the people of the Fire, staying there forever.
6. They impatiently ask you to bring punishment instead of good, even though examples have already come before them. Truly, your Lord forgives people despite their wrongdoing, but your Lord is also severe in punishment.
7. Those who disbelieve say, "Why hasn't a miracle come down to him from his Lord?" You're only a warner, and every community has its guide.
8. Allah knows what every female carries, and He knows what the wombs lose or gain. Everything with Him has a set measure.
9. He knows the hidden and the visible — He is the Great, the Most High.
10. It makes no difference whether you speak secretly or openly, whether you hide in the night or walk freely in the day.
11. Each person has angels before and behind, protecting them by Allah's command. Allah doesn't change the condition of a people until they change what's within themselves. And when Allah intends harm for a people, no one can stop it, and they have no protector besides Him.
12. He is the One Who shows you lightning, causing fear and hope, and He forms the heavy clouds.
13. The thunder glorifies His praise, and so do the angels, out of awe of Him. He sends thunderbolts, striking whoever He wills. Yet they still argue about Allah, though His power is mighty and unstoppable.
14. Calling upon Him is the call of truth. Those they call on besides Him don't answer them at all — it's like someone stretching out his hands toward water, hoping it'll reach his mouth, but it never does. The prayers of the disbelievers are completely useless.
15. Everyone in the heavens and the earth bows down to Allah, willingly or unwillingly — even their shadows bow down, morning and evening.
16. Say, "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say, "Allah." Say, "Then why do you take protectors besides Him, who can't even help or harm themselves?" Say, "Are the blind and the seeing equal? Or is darkness the same as light? Or have they given Allah partners who created things like His creation, so they're confused between the two?" Say, "Allah is the Creator of everything, and He is the One, the Almighty."
17. He sends down rain from the sky, and valleys flow according to their size. The rushing water carries foam on top. And when people melt metals in the fire to make jewelry or tools, there's foam like that too. This is how Allah explains truth and falsehood. The foam quickly disappears, but what benefits people stays on the earth. This is how Allah gives examples.
18. Those who answer their Lord's call will have the best reward. But those who don't answer — even if they had everything on earth, and twice as much, they'd gladly give it all away to escape punishment. They'll have a terrible judgment, and their home will be Hell — a miserable place to rest.
19. Can someone who knows that what your Lord sent down to you is the truth, be compared to someone who is blind? Only people who truly understand will remember this.
20. They're the ones who keep their promises to Allah, and they never break their agreements.
21. They're the ones who keep the connections Allah commanded, fear their Lord, and dread a bad judgment.
22. They're the ones who patiently seek their Lord's approval, pray regularly, and give from what We've provided them, secretly and openly. They push away evil with good. They'll have the best home in the end.
23. Gardens of eternal happiness. They'll enter them along with their good parents, spouses, and children. Angels will come to them from every gate, saying.
24. "Peace be upon you, because you were patient. What a wonderful home you've earned!"
25. But those who break their promises to Allah after making them, cut the connections Allah commanded to keep, and spread corruption on earth — they'll be cursed, and they'll have a terrible home.
26. Allah gives plenty to whoever He wants, and He limits it for whoever He wants. Some people are delighted with this worldly life, but compared to the Hereafter, this life is just a brief enjoyment.
27. Those who disbelieve say, "Why hasn't a miracle come down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Allah lets whoever He wills go astray, and He guides to Himself whoever turns back to Him."
28. Those who believe, and whose hearts find peace in remembering Allah — truly, hearts find peace only in remembering Allah.
29. Those who believe and do good deeds will have happiness and a wonderful place to return to.
30. This is how We sent you to a community — others have passed away before it — to recite to them what We revealed to you. Yet they deny the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no god except Him. I put my trust in Him, and to Him I return."
31. Even if there were a Quran that could move mountains, or split the earth apart, or make the dead speak — still, everything is completely in Allah's control. Don't the believers realize that if Allah wanted, He could have guided all people? But disasters will keep striking the disbelievers because of what they've done, or come very close to their homes, until Allah's promise comes true. Allah never breaks His promise.
32. Messengers before you were laughed at, but I gave the disbelievers time, then I seized them. How terrible was My punishment!
33. Is the One Who watches over every soul, and knows what it does, like anyone else? Yet they set up partners with Allah. Say, "Name them! Are you telling Him something He doesn't know on earth, or are these just empty words?" Their tricks seem attractive to the disbelievers, and they are kept away from the right path. Whoever Allah lets go astray, no one can guide.
34. They will suffer punishment in this life, but the punishment in the Hereafter is even harder — and no one can protect them from Allah.
35. The example of Paradise promised to those who are mindful of Allah: rivers flow beneath it, its fruits never run out, and its shade never fades. That is the reward for those who were mindful. But the reward for those who reject the truth is the Fire.
36. Those to whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in what has been revealed to you. Yet among some groups, there are those who deny parts of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allah, and not to worship anything besides Him. To Him I call, and to Him is my return."
37. And so We sent it down as a judgment in Arabic. If you were to follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have no protector or defender against Allah.
38. We certainly sent messengers before you, and We gave them wives and children. No messenger could bring a miracle except by Allah's permission. For every time period, there is a book.
39. Allah erases whatever He wills, and He confirms whatever He wills. And with Him is the Source of the Book.
40. Whether We show you some of what We promised them, or We take your life before that, your duty is only to deliver the message, and the accounting is Our responsibility.
41. Do they not see how We come to the land, gradually reducing it from its edges? Allah decides, and no one can overturn His decision. He is swift in taking account.
42. Those before them made plans, but all plans belong to Allah. He knows what every soul earns, and soon the disbelievers will know who will have the final home.
43. Those who disbelieve say, "You are not a messenger." Say, "Allah is enough as a witness between me and you, as well as those who have knowledge of the Scripture."
