In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. O you wrapped up in your blanket!

2. Stand up to pray at night, except for a little while.

3. Pray half the night, or a little less.

4. Or a little more — and recite the Quran slowly and clearly.

5. We will soon give you important words to carry.

6. Praying at night has a stronger effect on you, and helps you speak honestly and truly.

7. During the day, you have many things to do.

8. Remember your Lord's name, and give your heart completely to Him.

9. He is the Lord of the east and the west. There is no god except Him, so trust Him to take care of you.

10. Be patient with what people say, and leave them in a kind and gentle way.

11. Leave those who don't believe to Me — those who have many nice things — and give them a little more time.

12. We have heavy chains and a blazing fire.

13. Food that's hard to swallow, and a painful punishment.

14. On the Day when the earth and mountains shake, and the mountains become heaps of sand.

15. We have sent you a messenger to watch over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

16. But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We grabbed him with a severe punishment.

17. If you don't believe, how will you protect yourselves on the Day that turns children's hair gray?

18. The sky will split apart because of it. Allah's promise always comes true.

19. This is a reminder, so whoever wants can choose the path to their Lord.

20. Your Lord knows that you pray almost two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it — and so do some of those with you. Allah decides the length of night and day. He knows you can't always keep track of it, so He kindly forgives you. So read as much of the Quran as you find easy. He knows some of you will be sick, others will travel looking for Allah's blessings, and others will fight in Allah's path. So read as much of the Quran as you find easy. Keep up your prayers, give charity, and lend Allah a beautiful loan. Whatever good you do for yourselves, you'll find it with Allah — better and with a bigger reward. And ask Allah to forgive you. Allah is forgiving and kind.
