In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. When the hypocrites come to you, they say, "We promise, you're Allah's Messenger." Allah knows you're His Messenger, and Allah promises that the hypocrites are lying.
2. They use their promises as a shield, and they stop others from following Allah's way. What they're doing is very bad.
3. That's because they believed, then they stopped believing. So their hearts became closed, and now they don't understand.
4. When you see them, their looks impress you. And when they speak, you listen to their words. But they're like pieces of wood leaning against a wall. They think every loud noise is against them. They're the real enemy, so watch out for them. May Allah stop them! How can they turn away from the truth?
5. When someone says to them, "Come, Allah's Messenger will ask Allah to forgive you," they turn their heads away. You see them walking away, acting proud.
6. It doesn't matter if you ask Allah to forgive them or not — Allah will never forgive them. Allah doesn't guide people who keep doing wrong.
7. They're the ones who say, "Don't spend your money on the people with Allah's Messenger, so they'll leave him." But all the treasures of the heavens and the earth belong to Allah. The hypocrites just don't understand.
8. They say, "When we go back to the city, the strong ones will surely kick out the weak ones." But all strength belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers. The hypocrites just don't know.
9. Believers, don't let your money or your children distract you from remembering Allah. Whoever does that will be the losers.
10. Give from what We've given you, before death comes to one of you. Then he'll say, "My Lord, if only You'd give me a little more time, I'd give charity and be one of the good people."
11. But Allah never gives anyone extra time when their time has come. And Allah knows everything you do.
