In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Allah has heard the words of the woman who talked to you about her husband and complained to Allah. Allah hears your conversation. Allah hears and sees everything.

2. Those of you who say to their wives, "You're like my mother's back," — their wives aren't their mothers. Their mothers are only the ones who gave birth to them. They're saying something wrong and untrue. But Allah forgives and pardons.

3. Those who say this to their wives, then want to take back what they said, must free a captive before they touch each other again. This is what you're taught to do. Allah knows everything you do.

4. If someone can't find a captive to free, he must fast for two months in a row before they touch each other again. If he can't do that, he must feed sixty poor people. This is so you believe in Allah and His Messenger. These are Allah's rules. Those who don't believe will have a painful punishment.

5. Those who disobey Allah and His Messenger will be humbled, just like those before them were humbled. We've sent down clear verses. Those who don't believe will have a shameful punishment.

6. On the Day when Allah brings them all back to life, He'll tell them everything they did. Allah kept track of it all, even though they forgot it. Allah sees everything.

7. Don't you know that Allah knows everything in the heavens and on earth? When three people whisper secretly, He's the fourth with them. When five whisper secretly, He's the sixth with them. Whether they're fewer or more, He's always with them wherever they are. Then, on the Day of Judgment, He'll tell them everything they did. Allah knows everything.

8. Haven't you seen those who were told not to whisper secretly, but they still do it? They whisper about doing wrong, hurting others, and disobeying the Messenger. When they come to you, they greet you in a way Allah never taught them. They secretly say to themselves, "Why doesn't Allah punish us for what we're saying?" Hellfire is enough for them — they'll enter it. What a terrible place to end up!

9. Believers, when you talk secretly together, don't talk about doing wrong, hurting others, or disobeying the Messenger. Instead, talk secretly about doing good things and being careful to obey Allah. And respect Allah, because you'll all return to Him.

10. Secret talks about bad things come from Satan, to make believers feel sad. But he can't hurt them at all, unless Allah allows it. So believers should trust Allah.

11. Believers, when you're asked to make room for others in gatherings, make room, and Allah will make room for you. And when you're asked to stand up, stand up. Allah will raise up those of you who believe and those who have knowledge to higher levels. Allah knows everything you do.

12. Believers, when you speak privately with the Messenger, first give some charity. That's better and cleaner for you. But if you don't have anything to give, then remember, Allah is Forgiving and Kind.

13. Were you worried about giving charity before speaking privately with the Messenger? Since you didn't do it, and Allah has forgiven you, now pray regularly, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah knows everything you do.

14. Haven't you seen those who make friends with people Allah is angry with? They're not really with you, and they're not really with them. They make promises they know aren't true.

15. Allah has prepared a painful punishment for them. What they're doing is very bad.

16. They use their promises to hide what they really mean, and they stop others from following Allah's way. So they'll have a shameful punishment.

17. Their money and their children won't help them at all against Allah. They're the people of the Fire, and they'll stay there forever.

18. On the Day when Allah brings them all back to life, they'll swear to Him just like they swear to you now. They think what they do will help them, but really, they're the ones who are lying.

19. Satan has taken control of them and made them forget to remember Allah. They're Satan's group — and Satan's group are the losers.

20. Those who go against Allah and His Messenger — they'll be among the lowest people.

21. Allah has decided: "I and My messengers will win." Allah is strong and mighty.

22. You won't find people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who go against Allah and His Messenger — even if they're their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their families. Allah has written faith in their hearts and helps them with a spirit from Him. He'll bring them into gardens with rivers flowing beneath, where they'll stay forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they're pleased with Him. They're Allah's group — and Allah's group are the winners.
