In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. You who believe, keep your promises. You are allowed to eat farm animals, except the ones clearly mentioned to you. But don't hunt animals while you're on pilgrimage. Allah decides whatever He wants.

2. You who believe, don't disrespect Allah's special rules, or the holy month, or the animals brought as gifts to Allah, or the special necklaces they wear. And don't bother people who are going to the Holy House, looking for Allah's kindness and happiness. When you've finished your pilgrimage, you can hunt. Don't let anger toward people who stopped you from visiting the Holy Mosque make you do wrong things. Help each other do good things and obey Allah, and don't help each other do bad things or hurt others. Always respect Allah. Allah gives strong punishments.

3. You're not allowed to eat animals that died by themselves, or blood, or pork, or animals offered to anyone other than Allah. You can't eat animals that were choked, or hit to death, or fell from high places, or were killed by another animal — unless you properly slaughtered them yourselves. And don't eat animals killed for idols, or use arrows to guess your future. Doing these things is wrong. Today, those who don't believe have given up hope of changing your religion, so don't be afraid of them — be afraid of Me. Today, I have completed your religion for you, finished My blessing on you, and chosen Islam as your religion. But if someone is starving and has no choice, without wanting to sin, then Allah is forgiving and kind.

4. They ask you what food is allowed for them. Say, "All good and clean foods are allowed for you. And you can eat what your trained hunting animals catch for you, after teaching them what Allah taught you. Remember to say Allah's name over it, and always respect Allah. Allah is quick to judge."

5. Today, all good and clean foods are allowed for you. And the food of the people who received the Book before you is allowed for you, and your food is allowed for them. You can marry good women who believe, and good women from the people who received the Book before you, if you give them their marriage gifts properly, wanting to marry them — not doing wrong things or secretly having boyfriends or girlfriends. Anyone who rejects faith will lose all the good they've done, and in the Hereafter they'll be among the losers.

6. Believers, when you get ready to pray, wash your faces and your hands up to your elbows. Wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to your ankles. If you need a full wash, then wash your whole body. But if you're sick, or traveling, or you've used the bathroom, or you've touched women, and you can't find water, then use clean earth. Wipe your faces and hands with it. Allah doesn't want things to be hard for you. He wants to make you clean, and complete His blessing on you, so you can be thankful.

7. Remember Allah's blessing on you, and the special promise He made with you, when you said, "We hear and we obey." Be careful to obey Allah. Allah knows what's in your hearts.

8. Believers, stand up for Allah, and always tell the truth and be fair. Don't let your dislike for some people make you unfair. Be fair — that's closer to obeying Allah. Be careful to obey Allah. Allah knows everything you do.

9. Allah promises those who believe and do good things that they'll have forgiveness and a wonderful reward.

10. But those who disbelieve and say Our verses aren't true — they're the people of the Fire.

11. Believers, remember Allah's blessing on you, when some people wanted to hurt you, but He stopped their hands from reaching you. Be careful to obey Allah. And believers should always trust Allah.

12. Allah made a promise with the Children of Israel, and We chose twelve leaders from among them. Allah said, "I am with you. If you pray regularly, give charity, believe in My messengers, support them, and lend to Allah a good loan, I will erase your mistakes and bring you into gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. But whoever disbelieves after this has lost the right path."

13. Because they broke their promise, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They changed the words from their places and forgot some of what they were taught. You will always see dishonesty from most of them, except a few. So forgive them and let it go. Allah loves those who do good.

14. And from those who said, "We are Christians," We also took a promise. But they forgot some of what they were taught, so We let hatred and hostility grow among them until the Day of Judgment. Allah will tell them what they used to do.

15. People of the Book, Our messenger has come to you. He makes clear many things you were hiding from the Book, and he overlooks many things. A light and a clear Book have come to you from Allah.

16. With it, Allah guides those who follow what pleases Him to paths of peace. He brings them out of darkness into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.

17. Those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary," have disbelieved. Say, "Who can stop Allah if He wants to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother, and everyone on earth?" Everything in the heavens, the earth, and everything between them belongs to Allah. He creates whatever He wants, and Allah has power over everything.

18. The Jews and Christians said, "We are Allah's children and His loved ones." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins? No, you are human beings, just like others He created. He forgives whoever He wants and punishes whoever He wants. Everything in the heavens and the earth and between them belongs to Allah, and everyone will return to Him."

19. People of the Book, Our messenger has come to you after a long time without messengers. Now you can't say, "No one came to give us good news or warn us." Someone who brings good news and warnings has come to you. Allah has power over everything.

20. Remember when Moses said to his people, "My people, remember Allah's blessing on you. He made some of you prophets, made you kings, and gave you things He didn't give anyone else in the world."

21. "My people, enter the holy land that Allah has chosen for you. Don't turn back, or you'll become losers."

22. They said, "Moses, there are strong people living there. We'll never enter it until they leave. If they leave, then we'll go in."

23. Two men who respected Allah, and whom Allah had blessed, said, "Go in through the gate and face them. If you enter, you'll win. Trust Allah if you really believe."

24. They said, "Moses, we'll never enter it as long as those people are there. You and your Lord go and fight. We'll stay right here."

25. Moses said, "My Lord, I only have control over myself and my brother. So separate us from these disobedient people."

26. Allah said, "Then this land will be forbidden to them for forty years. They'll wander around the earth. So don't feel sad about these disobedient people."

27. Tell them the true story of Adam's two sons. They each gave an offering to Allah. It was accepted from one, but not from the other. The one whose offering wasn't accepted said, "I will kill you." His brother replied, "Allah only accepts from those who are careful to obey Him."

28. "Even if you raise your hand to kill me, I won't raise my hand to kill you. I'm afraid of Allah, the Lord of everyone and everything."

29. "I want you to be responsible for my sin and your own sin. Then you'll be one of the people of the Fire. That's how wrongdoers are punished."

30. But his feelings pushed him to kill his brother, so he killed him. Then he became one of the losers.

31. Then Allah sent a crow, scratching the ground, to show him how to bury his brother's body. He said, "Oh no! Am I not even able to be like this crow and bury my brother?" Then he felt very sorry.

32. Because of this, We told the Children of Israel that whoever kills a human being — unless it is for murder or for spreading corruption on earth — it's as if he killed all people. And whoever saves a life, it's as if he saved all people. Our messengers came to them with clear proofs, but even after that, many of them still did wrong things on earth.

33. The punishment for those who fight against Allah and His Messenger, and spread trouble and harm on earth, is that they should be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, or be sent away from the land. This is their shame in this world, and in the Hereafter they'll have a terrible punishment.

34. But if they turn back and repent before you catch them, then know that Allah is forgiving and kind.

35. You who believe, be careful to obey Allah, look for ways to come closer to Him, and try your best in His way, so you can succeed.

36. Those who disbelieve — if they had everything on earth, and even another earth like it, and tried to give it all away to escape punishment on the Day of Judgment, it wouldn't be accepted from them. They'll have a painful punishment.

37. They'll want to get out of the Fire, but they'll never get out. They'll have a punishment that lasts forever.

38. The thief, whether a man or a woman, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they've done — a strong warning from Allah. Allah is mighty and wise.

39. But whoever turns back and makes things right after doing wrong, Allah will accept their repentance. Allah is forgiving and kind.

40. Don't you know that Allah owns the heavens and the earth? He punishes whoever He wants, and He forgives whoever He wants. Allah has power over everything.

41. Messenger, don't be sad about those who rush toward disbelief. They say with their mouths, "We believe," but their hearts don't believe. And some of the Jews listen eagerly to lies. They listen to other people who haven't come to you. They change the words from their proper places. They say, "If you're given this, take it, but if you're not given it, watch out." If Allah decides to test someone, you can't help them against Allah at all. These are the ones whose hearts Allah doesn't want to make pure. They'll be ashamed in this world, and they'll have a great punishment in the Hereafter.

42. They listen eagerly to lies, and take things they shouldn't take. If they come to you, you can judge between them or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they can't harm you at all. But if you judge, judge fairly between them. Allah loves those who are fair.

43. How can they ask you to judge, when they have the Torah with them, which has Allah's rules? Then they turn away after that. These people aren't believers.

44. We sent down the Torah, which has guidance and light. The prophets who obeyed Allah used it to judge the Jews, and so did the teachers and wise scholars. They were trusted to protect Allah's Book, and they were witnesses to it. So don't be afraid of people, but respect Me. And don't trade My verses for something small. Whoever doesn't judge by what Allah sent down — they are the ones who disbelieve.

45. In the Torah, We told them clearly: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and wounds should be repaid equally. But if someone chooses to forgive, it will erase some of their own mistakes. Whoever doesn't judge by what Allah sent down — they are the ones who are unfair.

46. After those prophets, We sent Jesus, the son of Mary. He agreed with the Torah that came before him. We gave him the Gospel, which has guidance and light. It agrees with the Torah that came before it, and it gives guidance and good advice to those who are careful to obey Allah.

47. Let the people who follow the Gospel judge by what Allah sent down in it. Whoever doesn't judge by what Allah sent down — they are the wrongdoers.

48. And We sent down the Book to you with the truth. It agrees with the Books that came before it, and it watches over them. So judge between people by what Allah sent down, and don't follow their wishes instead of the truth that came to you. For each of you, We made a special way and a clear path. If Allah wanted, He could have made you all one group, but He wants to test you with what He gave you. So hurry to do good things. You will all return to Allah, and He will tell you clearly about the things you disagreed on.

49. Judge between them by what Allah sent down, and don't follow their wishes. Be careful — they might try to lead you away from some of what Allah sent down to you. If they turn away, know that Allah wants to punish them for some of their mistakes. Many people disobey Allah.

50. Do they want the unfair rules from the old days? Who can make better rules than Allah for people who believe in Him?

51. Believers, don't take Jews and Christians as your close friends and protectors. They're close friends and protectors of each other. If any of you chooses them as close friends and protectors, then he's one of them. Allah doesn't guide people who do wrong.

52. You'll see those with sickness in their hearts rushing to be friends with them. They say, "We're afraid something bad might happen to us." But maybe Allah will bring victory or something else from Himself. Then they'll feel sorry for the secrets they kept inside.

53. The believers will say, "Are these the same people who promised strongly by Allah that they were with you?" All their good deeds are lost, and now they're the losers.

54. Believers, if any of you turns away from your religion, Allah will bring other people instead. He'll love them, and they'll love Him. They'll be gentle and kind with believers, but strong and firm with those who don't believe. They'll work hard for Allah, and they won't be afraid when others blame them. That's Allah's gift — He gives it to whoever He wants. Allah is generous and knows everything.

55. Your true protector and friend is Allah, and His Messenger, and the believers who pray regularly, give charity, and bow down humbly.

56. Whoever chooses Allah, His Messenger, and the believers as friends and protectors — then Allah's group are the winners.

57. Believers, don't choose as close friends those who make fun of your religion and treat it like a game. This means people who got the Book before you and people who don't believe in Allah. Be careful to obey Allah, if you're true believers.

58. When you call people to prayer, they joke and play around. That's because they're people who don't understand.

59. Say, "People of the Book, are you angry with us just because we believe in Allah, and in what was given to us, and in what was given before? And because most of you disobey Allah?"

60. Say, "Should I tell you who will get an even worse punishment from Allah? Those who Allah cursed, and He's angry with them, and He turned some of them into monkeys and pigs, and they worship false gods. They're in a worse place, and they're far away from the right path."

61. When they come to you, they say, "We believe," but they entered with disbelief and left with disbelief. Allah knows best what they're hiding.

62. You'll see many of them rushing to do bad things, hurting others, and taking things that aren't allowed. What they're doing is very wrong.

63. Why don't their teachers and religious leaders stop them from saying bad things and taking things that aren't allowed? What they're doing is very wrong.

64. Some Jews said, "Allah's hand is tied up." May their own hands be tied up, and may they be cursed for what they said. Instead, Allah's hands are wide open, and He gives freely however He wants. But what your Lord sent down to you makes many of them even more disobedient and unbelieving. We put hatred and anger between them until the Day of Judgment. Every time they start a fire for war, Allah puts it out. They keep trying to make trouble on earth, and Allah doesn't love troublemakers.

65. If the People of the Book believed and were mindful of Allah, We would erase their bad deeds, and bring them into beautiful gardens of happiness.

66. If they followed the Torah, the Gospel, and what their Lord sent down to them, they would have lots of good things to eat from above and below. Some of them do what's right, but many of them do very bad things.

67. Messenger, tell clearly everything your Lord sent down to you. If you don't, then you haven't delivered His message. Allah will protect you from people. Allah doesn't guide those who don't believe.

68. Say, "People of the Book, you have nothing unless you follow the Torah, the Gospel, and what your Lord sent down to you." But what your Lord sent down to you makes many of them even more disobedient and unbelieving. So don't feel sad about those who don't believe.

69. Those who believe, and the Jews, the Sabians, and the Christians — anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds — they won't be afraid or sad.

70. We made a promise with the Children of Israel and sent messengers to them. But whenever a messenger brought them something they didn't like, they called some liars and killed others.

71. They thought nothing bad would happen, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah forgave them, but again many of them became blind and deaf. Allah sees everything they do.

72. Those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary," have disbelieved. But the Messiah himself said, "Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Whoever thinks someone is like Allah, Allah will not let them enter Paradise, and their home will be the Fire. Those who do wrong will have no helpers."

73. Those who say, "Allah is one of three," have disbelieved. There is only one God. If they don't stop saying this, those who disbelieve among them will have a painful punishment.

74. Why don't they turn back to Allah and ask Him to forgive them? Allah is Forgiving and Kind.

75. The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger. Many messengers came before him. His mother was a very good and truthful woman. They both used to eat food. Look how clearly We show them the signs, then look how they turn away from the truth.

76. Say, "Do you worship something other than Allah, which can't harm you or help you? Allah hears and knows everything."

77. Say, "People of the Book, don't go too far in your religion, away from the truth. Don't follow the wishes of people who went the wrong way before, who led many others astray, and who lost the right path."

78. Those who disbelieved from the Children of Israel were cursed by David and Jesus, son of Mary. This was because they disobeyed and kept crossing the limits.

79. They didn't stop each other from doing wrong things. What they did was very bad.

80. You see many of them making friends with those who disbelieve. What they've done for themselves is very bad — Allah is angry with them, and they'll stay in punishment forever.

81. If they really believed in Allah, the Prophet, and what was given to him, they wouldn't have taken disbelievers as friends. But many of them disobey Allah.

82. You'll find that the strongest enemies against those who believe are the Jews and those who worship others besides Allah. And you'll find the closest friends to those who believe are the ones who say, "We are Christians." That's because among them are priests and monks, and they're not proud.

83. When they hear what was given to the Messenger, you see their eyes fill with tears, because they recognize the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we believe, so please write our names with the witnesses."

84. And why shouldn't we believe in Allah and the truth that has come to us? And we hope our Lord will let us enter with the good people.

85. Because of what they said, Allah rewarded them with gardens that have rivers flowing beneath them. They'll live there forever. That's the reward for those who do good.

86. But those who disbelieve and say our verses aren't true — they're the people of the Fire.

87. You who believe, don't make the good things that Allah allowed for you forbidden, and don't cross the limits. Allah doesn't love those who cross the limits.

88. Eat from the good and allowed things that Allah has given you. And be careful to obey Allah, the One you believe in.

89. Allah won't blame you for promises you make by mistake, but He will blame you for promises you meant seriously. If you break a serious promise, you must feed ten poor people the same kind of food you usually give your family, or give them clothes, or free someone who isn't free. If you can't do any of these, then fast for three days. That's how you make up for breaking your promises. Keep your promises carefully. This is how Allah clearly explains His verses to you, so you can be thankful.

90. You who believe, wine, gambling, statues people worship, and fortune-telling arrows are dirty things from Satan's work — so stay away from them, and you'll be successful.

91. Satan only wants to cause enmity and hatred between you through wine and gambling, and to stop you from remembering Allah and praying. So will you stop?

92. Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and be careful. But if you turn away, then know that our Messenger's job is only to clearly deliver the message.

93. Those who believe and do good things won't be blamed for what they ate or drank before, as long as they're careful to obey Allah, believe, and do good things. Then again, they're careful to obey Allah and believe. Then again, they're careful to obey Allah and do good. Allah loves those who do good.

94. You who believe, Allah will test you with some animals you can catch with your hands and spears. He wants to see who respects Him even when no one is watching. Whoever breaks this rule after knowing it will have a painful punishment.

95. You who believe, don't hunt animals while you're in pilgrimage. If anyone hunts on purpose, they must give an animal like the one they hunted as a gift to the Kaaba. Two fair people among you will decide what animal it should be. Or they can feed poor people instead, or fast to make up for it. This is so they understand how serious their mistake was. Allah forgives what happened before, but if someone does it again, Allah will punish them. Allah is strong and able to punish.

96. You're allowed to catch and eat food from the sea. It's good food for you and travelers. But hunting animals on land is not allowed while you're in pilgrimage. Always respect Allah, because you'll all return to Him.

97. Allah made the Kaaba, the special holy house, a safe place for people. He also made the special holy months, the animals given as gifts, and the animals wearing special necklaces. This is so you know that Allah knows everything in the skies and on the earth, and that Allah knows all things.

98. Remember, Allah punishes strongly, but He also forgives and is kind.

99. The Messenger's job is only to deliver Allah's message. Allah knows everything you show and everything you hide.

100. Say, "Bad things and good things aren't the same, even if the bad things seem like a lot." So respect Allah, you who understand, so you can succeed.

101. You who believe, don't ask about things that, if explained to you, might upset you. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they'll be explained to you. Allah has forgiven these things. Allah forgives and is patient.

102. People before you asked questions like these, then they stopped believing because of these questions.

103. Allah didn't make rules about animals called Bahirah, Saibah, Wasilah, or Haam. But those who disbelieve make up lies about Allah, and most of them don't understand.

104. When they're told, "Come to what Allah sent down and to the Messenger," they say, "We will just do what our parents did." Even if their parents didn't know anything and weren't guided?

105. You who believe, take care of yourselves. If you follow the right path, those who are lost can't hurt you. You will all return to Allah, and He will tell you about everything you did.

106. You who believe, when one of you is close to dying and wants to leave instructions, two honest people should witness it. They can be two of your own people, or two others if you're traveling far away and death comes to you. After the prayer, keep the two witnesses, and if you have doubts about them, let them swear by Allah, "We won't trade this promise for anything, even if it's for someone close to us. We won't hide what Allah wants us to say. If we did, we'd be doing something wrong."

107. But if it's found out that these two witnesses did something wrong, two others should take their place. These two new witnesses should be from the family who was treated unfairly. They should promise by Allah, "Our words are truer than theirs, and we haven't lied. If we did, we'd be wrongdoers."

108. Doing this makes it more likely that witnesses will tell the truth, because they'll be afraid that others might correct them later. Be careful to obey Allah, and listen carefully. Allah doesn't guide people who keep doing wrong.

109. On the Day when Allah gathers all the messengers, He will ask them, "What answers did you receive?" They will say, "We don't know. You know everything that's hidden."

110. Remember when Allah said, "Jesus, son of Mary, remember My blessings to you and your mother. I helped you with the Holy Spirit, so you could speak to people when you were a baby and when you grew up. I taught you the Book, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. You shaped clay into a bird by My permission, then blew into it, and it became a real bird by My permission. You healed blind people and those with skin diseases by My permission. You even brought the dead back to life by My permission. And remember when I protected you from the Children of Israel when you came to them with clear miracles, but some who didn't believe said, 'This is just clear magic.'"

111. And remember when I inspired the disciples, "Believe in Me and My messenger." They said, "We believe, and please witness that we have submitted to You."

112. Remember when the disciples said, "Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down a table from the sky for us?" Jesus replied, "Respect Allah, if you really believe."

113. They said, "We want to eat from it, so our hearts will be reassured, and we know you've told us the truth, and we can be witnesses to this miracle."

114. Jesus, son of Mary, prayed, "O Allah, our Lord, please send down to us a table from the sky. Let it be a celebration for us, for the first and last of us, and a miracle from You. Please provide for us — You are the best Provider."

115. Allah said, "I will send it down to you. But whoever among you doesn't believe after this, I will punish them with a punishment I've never given anyone else in the world."

116. And remember when Allah said, "Jesus, son of Mary, did you tell people, 'Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah'?" Jesus answered, "Glory to You! I would never say something I have no right to say. If I had said it, You would know it. You know what's in my heart, but I don't know what's in Yours. You know everything hidden."

117. "I only told them what You commanded me: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' I watched over them while I was with them. But when You took me away, You were the One watching over them. And You see everything."

118. "If You punish them, they are Your servants. And if You forgive them, You are the Mighty, the Wise."

119. Allah will say, "Today, truthful people will benefit from their truthfulness. They will have gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, staying there forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the greatest success."

120. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, and He has power over everything.
