In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Ha. Meem.
2. This Book is sent down from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.
3. In the skies and the earth, there are signs for those who believe.
4. And in your own creation, and in all the creatures He spreads around, there are signs for people who are sure.
5. And in the changing of night and day, and in the rain Allah sends down from the sky, bringing the earth back to life after it was dead, and in the blowing of the winds — there are signs for people who think carefully.
6. These are Allah's verses, which We read to you truthfully. So, after Allah and His verses, what else will they believe in?
7. How terrible it will be for every liar who does bad things!
8. He hears Allah's verses being read to him, but he stays proud, as if he didn't hear them. So tell him about a painful punishment.
9. And when he learns something from Our verses, he makes fun of them. Those people will have a shameful punishment.
10. Hellfire is waiting behind them. Nothing they earned will help them, and neither will the protectors they chose besides Allah. They will have a great punishment.
11. This is guidance. But those who disbelieve in their Lord's verses will have a painful punishment from a terrible torment.
12. Allah made the sea useful for you, so ships can sail on it by His command, and so you can look for His gifts, and maybe you'll be thankful.
13. And He made everything in the skies and on the earth useful for you — all of it comes from Him. In this, there are signs for people who think deeply.
14. Tell those who believe to forgive those who don't expect Allah's days. Allah Himself will reward people for what they used to do.
15. Whoever does good, it's good for themselves. And whoever does bad, it's bad for themselves. Then you'll all return to your Lord.
16. We gave the Children of Israel the Book, wisdom, and prophethood. We gave them good things, and We chose them above all other people.
17. And We gave them clear proofs about what to do. But they disagreed only after knowledge came to them, because they were jealous of each other. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment about what they disagreed on.
18. Then We put you on a clear path of Allah's commands. So follow it, and don't follow the wishes of those who don't know.
19. They can't protect you from Allah at all. Those who do wrong are friends of each other, but Allah is the friend of those who are careful to obey Him.
20. This is clear understanding for people, and guidance and kindness for those who are sure.
21. Do those who do bad things think they'll be treated the same as those who believe and do good things — that their lives and deaths will be equal? What a bad way to judge!
22. Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth, so everyone will be rewarded fairly for what they've done, and no one will be treated unfairly.
23. Have you seen the one who makes his own wishes his god? Allah lets him lose his way, knowing everything about him. Allah closes his ears and heart, and covers his eyes. Who can guide him after Allah? Won't you remember?
24. They say, "There's nothing except this life. We live, we die, and only time destroys us." But they don't really know — they're just guessing.
25. When Our clear verses are read to them, their only answer is, "Bring back our ancestors, if you're telling the truth!"
26. Say, "Allah gives you life, then He makes you die, then He'll gather you all together on the Day of Judgment — there's no doubt about it. But most people don't understand."
27. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. On the day the Hour comes, those who denied the truth will lose.
28. You'll see every group of people kneeling down. Each group will be called to its record of deeds. They'll be told, "Today you'll be rewarded for what you used to do."
29. "This is Our record — it tells the truth about you. We were always writing down everything you did."
30. Those who believed and did good things — their Lord will bring them into His kindness. That's the clear success.
31. But those who disbelieved will be asked, "Weren't My verses read to you? But you acted proudly and became people who did wrong."
32. When it was said, "Allah's promise is true, and the Hour will surely come," you said, "We don't know what the Hour is. We're only guessing, and we're not sure."
33. Then the bad things they did will appear clearly to them, and they'll be surrounded by what they used to laugh at.
34. They'll be told, "Today We forget you, just as you forgot you'd meet this day. Your home is the Fire, and no one will help you."
35. That's because you laughed at Allah's verses, and this life tricked you. Today they won't be taken out of the Fire, and they won't be allowed to ask for forgiveness.
36. All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the heavens, the Lord of the earth, and the Lord of everyone and everything.
37. Greatness in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
