In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. By the clear Book.

3. We made it an Arabic Quran, so you can understand.

4. And it's with Us in the main Book — high and wise.

5. Should We stop reminding you, just because you're people who cross the limits?

6. We sent many prophets to people long ago.

7. But whenever a prophet came to them, they laughed at him.

8. So We destroyed people who were even stronger than them, and the stories of those earlier people have passed.

9. If you ask them, "Who created the skies and the earth?" they'll surely say, "The Mighty, the All-Knowing created them."

10. He's the One Who made the earth smooth for you, and made paths in it, so you can find your way.

11. He's the One Who sends down rain from the sky in just the right amount, bringing life to dry land. That's how you'll be brought back to life.

12. He's the One Who created all kinds of pairs, and made ships and animals for you to ride.

13. So when you sit comfortably on their backs, remember your Lord's kindness, and say, "Glory to the One Who gave us this to use — we couldn't have done it by ourselves."

14. "And we'll surely return to our Lord."

15. But they made some of His servants a part of Him. Humans are clearly ungrateful.

16. Did He choose daughters from what He created, and give you sons instead?

17. When one of them is given the news that he had a daughter, his face turns dark with sadness, and he feels upset inside — even though he says daughters are for the Most Kind.

18. Someone who's raised with jewelry, and can't speak clearly when arguing?

19. They say the angels — who are servants of the Most Kind — are girls. Did they see when the angels were created? Their words will be written down, and they'll be asked about them.

20. They say, "If the Most Kind wanted, we wouldn't worship them." They don't really know — they're just guessing.

21. Or did We give them a book before this, and they're holding tightly to it?

22. No — they say, "We found our fathers following a certain way, and we're following their footsteps."

23. In the same way, whenever We sent someone to warn a town before you, the rich people there said, "We found our fathers following a certain way, and we're copying them."

24. The messenger said, "Even if I bring you something better than what your fathers followed?" They replied, "We don't believe in what you've been sent with."

25. So We punished them. Now see what happened to those who called Our message a lie.

26. Remember when Abraham said to his father and his people, "I have nothing to do with what you worship.

27. Except the One Who created me, because He will guide me."

28. And Allah made these words stay among Abraham's descendants, so they might come back to Him.

29. But I let these people and their parents enjoy life, until the truth and a clear messenger came to them.

30. When the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and we don't believe in it."

31. And they said, "Why wasn't this Quran given to an important man from one of the two towns?"

32. Do they decide who gets your Lord's kindness? We decide how much each person gets in this life, and We made some people higher than others, so they can work for each other. But your Lord's kindness is better than all the things they collect.

33. If it wouldn't make everyone become one group, We would have given those who don't believe in the Most Kind silver roofs for their houses, and stairs to climb up.

34. And doors to their houses, and couches to lean on.

35. And beautiful decorations. But all these things are just for enjoying this life. The Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.

36. Whoever turns away from remembering the Most Kind, We assign a devil to be their close friend.

37. These devils stop them from following the right path, but they think they're going the right way.

38. When they come to Us, they'll say to their devil friend, "I wish there was the greatest distance possible between you and me! What a terrible friend!"

39. Today, sharing the punishment won't help you, because you did wrong.

40. Can you make deaf people hear, or guide blind people, or those who are clearly lost?

41. Even if We take you away, We will surely punish them.

42. Or if We show you what We promised them, We have the power to do it.

43. So hold tightly to what was revealed to you. You're on the right path.

44. It is a reminder for you and your people, and you'll all be asked about it.

45. Ask those We sent as messengers before you: Did We ever tell them to worship anyone besides the Most Kind?

46. We sent Moses with Our miracles to Pharaoh and his leaders. Moses said, "I am truly a messenger from the Lord of everyone and everything."

47. But when he showed them Our miracles, they laughed at them.

48. Every miracle We showed them was greater than the one before. And We punished them, so they might turn back.

49. They said, "O magician, ask your Lord for us, because of the promise He made to you. Then we'll follow the right way."

50. But when We took away their punishment, they broke their promise.

51. Pharaoh called out to his people, saying, "My people, don't I rule Egypt, and don't these rivers flow beneath me? Can't you see?

52. Am I not better than this weak man who can hardly speak clearly?

53. Why hasn't he been given gold bracelets, or why haven't angels come with him?"

54. Pharaoh fooled his people, and they obeyed him. They were people who did wrong.

55. When they made Us angry, We punished them and drowned them all.

56. We made them an example and a lesson for those who came later.

57. When Jesus, the son of Mary, was given as an example, your people turned away and objected loudly about him.

58. They said, "Are our gods better, or is he?" They only said this to argue. They're a people who argue a lot.

59. Jesus was only a servant of Allah. We blessed him and made him an example for the Children of Israel.

60. If We wanted, We could have made angels from among you to live on earth after you.

61. And Jesus is a clear sign of the Hour. So don't doubt it, and follow Me. This is the straight path.

62. Don't let Satan stop you. He's clearly your enemy.

63. When Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, "I've come to you with wisdom, and to explain some things you disagree about. So respect Allah and obey me.

64. Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path."

65. But different groups argued among themselves. So woe to those who did wrong, because they'll have a painful punishment.

66. Are they waiting for the Day of Judgment to come suddenly, when they don't expect it?

67. On that Day, even best friends will become enemies — except those who were careful to obey Allah.

68. Allah will say, "My servants, today you don't need to be afraid or sad.

69. You believed in Our signs and submitted to Allah.

70. Enter Paradise happily, you and your spouses."

71. Golden plates and cups will be passed around to them. Paradise will have everything their hearts wish for, and everything their eyes love to see. And you'll stay there forever.

72. This is the Paradise you've been given because of the good things you did.

73. You'll have lots of delicious fruits there, and you'll eat from them.

74. But the criminals will stay forever in the punishment of Hellfire.

75. Their punishment won't become easier, and they'll be in despair there.

76. We didn't treat them unfairly — they were the ones who did wrong.

77. They'll call out, "Malik, ask your Lord to end our lives!" He'll say, "You'll stay here forever."

78. We brought you the truth, but most of you hated the truth.

79. Have they made a secret plan? Then We have a plan too.

80. Do they think We don't hear their secrets and whispers? Yes, We do — and Our angels are with them, writing everything down.

81. Say, "If the Most Merciful had a child, I would be the first to worship."

82. Glory belongs to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the great throne. He's far above what they say about Him.

83. So leave them to talk and play until they meet the Day they've been promised.

84. He's the God in heaven and the God on earth. He's the Wise, the One Who knows everything.

85. Blessed is the One Who rules the heavens, the earth, and everything between them. He knows when the Day of Judgment will come, and you'll all return to Him.

86. Those they pray to besides Allah can't speak for anyone — only those who speak the truth and know.

87. If you ask them, "Who created you?" they'll surely say, "Allah." Then why do they turn away?

88. And his saying, "My Lord, these people don't believe."

89. So forgive them, and say, "Peace." Soon they'll understand.
