In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Ha. Meem.
2. This Book is sent down from Allah, the Mighty, the One Who knows everything.
3. He forgives mistakes, accepts when people say sorry, and gives strong punishment. He is very generous and powerful. There is no god except Him. Everyone will return to Him.
4. Only those who don't believe argue about Allah's verses. So don't let their moving around freely in the land fool you.
5. Before them, Noah's people and other groups after them rejected the truth. Each group tried to catch their messenger. They argued with lies to block the truth. So I punished them. How terrible My punishment was!
6. And that's how your Lord's word came true about those who didn't believe — they will be the people of the Fire.
7. The angels who carry Allah's throne, and those around it, praise their Lord and believe in Him. They ask Allah to forgive the believers, saying, "Our Lord, Your kindness and knowledge cover everything. Please forgive those who say sorry and follow Your way, and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire."
8. "Our Lord, let them enter the beautiful gardens You promised them, along with the good ones from their parents, husbands and wives, and children. You are the Mighty, the Wise."
9. "And protect them from doing bad things. Whoever You protect from doing bad things on that Day, You have shown them kindness. That is the greatest win."
10. Those who didn't believe will be called out, "Allah's anger with you is greater than your anger with yourselves, because when you were invited to believe, you refused."
11. They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice. Now we admit our mistakes. Is there any way out?"
12. They will be told, "This is because when Allah alone was called, you didn't believe. But when others were worshiped along with Him, you believed. Now the decision belongs to Allah, the Highest, the Greatest."
13. He is the One Who shows you His signs, and sends down provision for you from the sky. But only those who turn back to Allah remember.
14. So pray to Allah, worshiping Him sincerely, even if those who disbelieve don't like it.
15. He is high above everyone, the Owner of the throne. He sends His message, by His command, to any of His servants He chooses, to warn people about the Day of Meeting.
16. On that Day, everyone will come out into the open. Nothing about them will be hidden from Allah. "Who is in charge today?" Today, Allah, the One and the Mighty, is in charge.
17. Today, every person will get exactly what they earned. No one will be treated unfairly today. Allah is quick to judge.
18. Warn them about the Day that's coming soon — when hearts will be in their throats, and they will be holding back their fear. Those who did wrong won't have any friend or helper who can speak up for them.
19. Allah knows the secret glances of the eyes, and everything hidden inside hearts.
20. Allah judges with truth, but those they pray to besides Him can't judge anything at all. Allah hears and sees everything.
21. Haven't they traveled around the earth and seen what happened to people before them? Those people were stronger, and left more things behind on the earth. But Allah punished them for their sins, and no one could protect them from Allah.
22. That happened because their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they did not believe. So Allah punished them. He is strong and strict in punishment.
23. We sent Moses with Our signs and clear proof.
24. To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun. But they said, "He's just a lying magician!"
25. When Moses brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who believe with him, but let their women live." But the plans of those who don't believe will always fail.
26. Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses, and let him call on his Lord. I'm afraid he'll change your religion or spread trouble in the land."
27. Moses said, "I ask my Lord and your Lord to protect me from every proud person who doesn't believe in the Day of Judgment."
28. A believing man from Pharaoh's people, who kept his belief hidden, said, "Will you kill a man just because he says, 'My Lord is Allah,' even though he brought you clear proofs from your Lord? If he's lying, his lie will hurt only him. But if he's telling the truth, some of what he warns you about will surely happen to you. Allah doesn't guide anyone who goes too far and lies."
29. "My people, today you have power, and you rule the land. But who will protect us from Allah's punishment if it comes?" Pharaoh said, "I only show you what I see, and I'm guiding you to the right way."
30. The believing man said, "My people, I'm afraid you'll suffer a day like those groups before you.
31. Like what happened to Noah's people, Aad, Thamud, and those who came after them. Allah never wants to be unfair to His servants.
32. My people, I'm afraid for you on the Day when everyone will call out loudly.
33. The Day you'll turn and run away, but no one can protect you from Allah. Whoever Allah leaves to lose their way, no one can guide them.
34. Joseph came to you before with clear proofs, but you kept doubting what he brought. When he died, you said, 'Allah won't send another messenger after him.' That's how Allah leaves those who go too far and doubt to lose their way.
35. Those who argue about Allah's verses without any proof. Allah and the believers really dislike that. That's how Allah seals the heart of every proud and stubborn person."
36. Pharaoh said, "Haman, build me a tall tower, so I can reach the paths.
37. The paths of the skies — and I look at Moses' God. But I think he's lying." That's how Pharaoh's bad actions seemed good to him, and he was stopped from the right way. Pharaoh's plans only led him to ruin.
38. The believing man said, "My people, follow me, and I'll guide you to the right way.
39. My people, this life is only a short enjoyment, but the Hereafter is the real home that lasts forever.
40. Whoever does something bad will only be paid back equally for it. But whoever does good, whether a boy or a girl, and believes in Allah — they'll enter Paradise, where they'll be given wonderful things without limit."
41. My people, why am I inviting you to be safe, but you're inviting me to the Fire?
42. You're asking me to stop believing in Allah, and worship others besides Him — things I don't know anything about. But I'm inviting you to the Mighty One, Who always forgives.
43. There's no doubt that what you're calling me to has no real answer in this world or the Hereafter. We'll all return to Allah, and those who do wrong will be people of the Fire.
44. Soon you'll remember what I'm telling you now. I trust Allah to take care of everything for me. Allah sees everything His servants do.
45. So Allah protected him from the bad plans they made, and Pharaoh's people were surrounded by terrible punishment.
46. They're shown the Fire every morning and evening. And on the Day when the Hour comes, it will be said, "Put Pharaoh's people into the worst punishment!"
47. When they're arguing in the Fire, the weak ones will say to the proud ones, "We followed you, so can you take away even a little bit of this Fire from us?"
48. The proud ones will say, "We're all in this together. Allah has already judged between His servants."
49. Then the people in the Fire will say to the guards of Hell, "Ask your Lord to make our punishment lighter, even for just one day!"
50. The guards will say, "Didn't your messengers come to you with clear proofs?" They'll say, "Yes." The guards will say, "Then ask — but asking won't help those who didn't believe."
51. We will help Our messengers and those who believe, both in this life and on the Day when the witnesses stand up.
52. On that Day, excuses won't help those who did wrong. They'll have a curse on them, and they'll have the worst home.
53. We gave Moses guidance, and We made the Children of Israel inherit the Book.
54. It was guidance and a reminder for people who think carefully.
55. So be patient, because Allah's promise is true. Ask Allah to forgive your mistakes, and praise your Lord in the evening and in the morning.
56. Those who argue about Allah's verses without any proof — they have pride in their hearts, but they'll never reach what they're trying for. So ask Allah to protect you. He hears and sees everything.
57. Creating the skies and the earth is much greater than creating people, but most people don't know this.
58. A blind person and someone who can see aren't the same. And those who believe and do good things aren't the same as those who do bad things. You only remember this a little.
59. The Day of Judgment will surely come — there's no doubt about it — but most people don't believe.
60. Your Lord says, "Pray to Me, and I'll answer you. Those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hellfire, humiliated."
61. Allah made the night for you, so you can rest, and the day bright for seeing. Allah is very good to people, but most people aren't thankful.
62. This is Allah, your Lord, Who created everything. There is no god except Him. So how can you turn away from Him?
63. This is how people who reject Allah's verses turn away.
64. Allah made the earth a safe place for you to live, and the sky as a strong building above you. He shaped you and made you look just right, and He gave you good things to eat. This is Allah, your Lord. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of everyone and everything.
65. He is the Ever-Living. There is no god except Him. So pray to Him, worshiping Him sincerely. All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of everyone and everything.
66. Say, "I've been told not to worship those you pray to besides Allah, after clear proofs came to me from my Lord. And I've been told to submit to the Lord of everyone and everything."
67. He created you from dust, then from a tiny drop, then from a small lump. Then He brings you out as babies, then you grow strong, and then you become old. Some of you die before getting old, and some live until a set time, so you can understand.
68. He gives life and causes death. When He decides something, He just says, "Be," and it happens.
69. Haven't you seen those who argue about Allah's verses? How can they turn away?
70. Those who denied the Book and the messages We sent — they'll soon find out.
71. When chains are around their necks, and they're dragged along.
72. Into boiling water, then they are burned in the Fire.
73. Then they'll be asked, "Where are those you used to worship.
74. Besides Allah?" They'll say, "They're gone from us. Actually, we didn't worship anything before." That's how Allah lets those who disbelieve become lost.
75. This is because you used to be happy on earth without any right, and because you behaved arrogantly.
76. Enter the gates of Hellfire, to stay there forever. What a terrible home for the arrogant!
77. So be patient, because Allah's promise is true. Whether We show you some of what We promised them, or We make you die before that, they'll all return to Us.
78. We sent messengers before you. Some of them We told you about, and some We didn't tell you about. No messenger could bring a miracle without Allah's permission. When Allah's command comes, everything is decided fairly, and those who denied the truth lost.
79. Allah made farm animals for you, so you can ride some of them, and eat from some of them.
80. You have other benefits from them too. They help you reach places you want to go. And on animals and ships, you're carried from place to place.
81. He shows you His signs. So which of Allah's signs do you deny?
82. Haven't they traveled around the earth and seen what happened to people before them? Those people were stronger, had more things, and left bigger marks on earth. But what they earned didn't help them at all.
83. When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were happy with the knowledge they already had. But then, what they used to laugh at surrounded them completely.
84. When they saw Our punishment, they said, "Now we believe in Allah alone, and we reject everything we used to worship besides Him."
85. But their belief didn't help them when they saw Our punishment. This is Allah's way, which has always happened with His servants. And there, the disbelievers lost.
