In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Prophet, be careful to obey Allah, and don't listen to those who disbelieve or pretend to believe. Allah knows everything and is very wise.

2. Follow what your Lord has revealed to you. Allah knows everything you do.

3. Trust in Allah. Allah is enough to take care of things.

4. Allah didn't give anyone two hearts inside their body. He didn't make your wives, whom you say are like your mothers, your real mothers. And He didn't make your adopted children your real children. These are just words you say with your mouths. But Allah speaks the truth, and He guides you to the right way.

5. Call adopted children by their real fathers' names — that's fairer to Allah. If you don't know who their fathers are, then they're your brothers in religion and your friends. There's no blame on you if you make a mistake, only if your hearts meant to do wrong. Allah is forgiving and kind.

6. The Prophet is closer to the believers than they are to themselves, and his wives are like mothers to them. Relatives are closer to each other, according to Allah's Book, than other believers and those who moved away from their homes — unless you want to show kindness to your friends. This is written clearly in Allah's Book.

7. Remember when We made a strong promise with the prophets — with you, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus son of Mary. We made a very strong promise with them.

8. Allah will ask the truthful people about their truthfulness. And He has prepared a painful punishment for those who disbelieve.

9. Believers, remember Allah's blessing on you when enemy armies came to attack you. Then We sent a strong wind against them, and armies you couldn't see. Allah was watching everything you did.

10. They came at you from above and below. Your eyes grew wide with fear, your hearts jumped into your throats, and you started thinking all kinds of thoughts about Allah.

11. At that moment, the believers were tested, and they were shaken very hard.

12. Then the hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said, "Allah and His Messenger promised us only false hopes!"

13. And one group of them said, "People of Yathrib, you can't stay here, so go back!" Another group asked the Prophet for permission to leave, saying, "Our houses are in danger." But their houses were not really in danger — they just wanted to run away.

14. If enemies had entered the city from all sides, and they asked them to turn against you, they would have done it right away, without waiting.

15. Before this, they had promised Allah they wouldn't turn their backs and run away. And Allah will ask them about their promise.

16. Say, "Running away won't help you. Even if you run from death or being killed, you'll only enjoy life for a little while."

17. Say, "Who can protect you from Allah if He wants something bad or something good for you?" They won't find anyone besides Allah to protect or help them.

18. Allah knows exactly who among you tries to stop others, and say to their friends, "Come over here!" They hardly ever join the fight.

19. They're stingy toward you. When danger comes, you see them staring at you with eyes wide and rolling, like someone about to faint from fear of death. But when the danger passes, they speak harshly to you with sharp tongues, still stingy with good things. These people never really believed, so Allah made all their good deeds worthless. And that's easy for Allah.

20. They think the enemy armies haven't really left. If those armies came back, they'd wish they were far away in the desert, asking about news of you from a safe distance. Even if they stayed with you, they'd hardly fight at all.

21. In Allah's Messenger, you have a wonderful example to follow — for anyone who hopes to meet Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often.

22. When the believers saw the enemy groups, they said, "This is exactly what Allah and His Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Messenger told the truth." This only made their faith and trust stronger.

23. Among the believers, there are people who kept their promise to Allah. Some of them have already given their lives, and some are still waiting. They never changed their promise at all.

24. Allah will reward the truthful people for their truthfulness, and He may punish the hypocrites if He wants, or forgive them. Allah is always forgiving and kind.

25. Allah turned back the disbelievers, full of anger, without letting them gain anything good. Allah protected the believers from fighting. Allah is strong and mighty.

26. He brought down from their forts those People of the Book who helped the enemy, and He filled their hearts with fear. You defeated some of them, and others you took as prisoners.

27. He gave you their land, their homes, their belongings, and even land you had never stepped on before. Allah has power over everything.

28. Prophet, say to your wives, "If you want this life and its beautiful things, then come — I will give you nice gifts and kindly let you go."

29. "But if you want Allah, His Messenger, and the home in the Hereafter, then Allah has prepared a great reward for those of you who do good."

30. Wives of the Prophet, if any of you does something really bad, her punishment will be doubled. And that's easy for Allah to do.

31. But if any of you obeys Allah and His Messenger, and does good things, We will give her double the reward, and We have prepared a generous gift for her.

32. Wives of the Prophet, you're not like other women. If you're careful to obey Allah, then don't speak too softly, or someone with a bad heart might get the wrong idea. Instead, speak in a good and proper way.

33. Stay peacefully in your homes, and don't show off your beauty like people did long ago. Pray regularly, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah only wants to keep all bad things away from you, family of the Prophet, and to make you completely pure.

34. And remember the verses of Allah and the wisdom that are recited in your homes. Allah is gentle and knows everything.

35. Allah has prepared forgiveness and a wonderful reward for Muslim men and Muslim women, believing men and believing women, men and women who are devoutly obedient, men and women who always tell the truth, men and women who are patient, men and women who respect Allah deeply, men and women who give charity, men and women who fast, men and women who guard their private parts, and men and women who remember Allah often.

36. When Allah and His Messenger decide something, believing men and women don't have a choice in their matter. Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly gone the wrong way.

37. Remember when you said to the one Allah blessed, and you also helped, "Keep your wife and respect Allah," but you hid inside yourself what Allah would soon show. You worried about what people might say, but it's Allah you should care about most. When Zayd was no longer married to her, We married her to you, so believers wouldn't feel bad about marrying the divorced wives of their adopted sons. Allah's command always happens.

38. The Prophet shouldn't feel worried or upset about what Allah allowed for him. This is how Allah always did things with those who lived before. Allah's command always happens.

39. Those who deliver Allah's messages respect and fear Him, and they're not afraid of anyone except Allah. Allah is enough to take care of everything.

40. Muhammad isn't the father of any of your men, but he's Allah's Messenger and the seal of the prophets. Allah knows everything.

41. Believers, remember Allah often.

42. Praise Him in the morning and in the evening.

43. He is the One Who sends blessings upon you, and His angels pray for you, to bring you out of darkness into the light. Allah is very kind to the believers.

44. On the day they meet Him, their greeting will be "Peace!" He has prepared a generous reward for them.

45. Prophet, We sent you as a witness, to give good news, and to warn.

46. And to invite people to Allah, by His permission, and as a shining lamp.

47. Give good news to the believers that they'll receive a big favor from Allah.

48. Don't listen to those who disbelieve or pretend to believe. Ignore their harm, and trust in Allah. Allah is enough to take care of everything.

49. Believers, if you marry believing women and then divorce them before you touch them, you don't have to wait for any waiting period. Give them a nice gift, and let them go kindly.

50. O Prophet, We have allowed you to marry your wives whose marriage gifts you've given, and those you own from what Allah has given you, and the daughters of your uncles and aunts who moved with you, and any believing woman who gives herself to the Prophet if the Prophet wants to marry her. This rule is special for you, not for other believers. We know what rules We gave them about their wives and those they own, so that you won't have any difficulty. Allah is always forgiving and kind.

51. You may choose to delay spending time with any of them you wish, and you may bring close to you any of them you wish. And if you want to bring close someone you had set aside before, there is no blame on you. This way, they will all feel happy, not sad, and each will be pleased with what you give them. Allah knows what's in your hearts, and Allah is always knowing and patient.

52. After this, you're not allowed to marry other women or to change your wives for others, even if their beauty amazes you, except those under your care. Allah watches carefully over everything.

53. Believers, don't enter the Prophet's houses unless you're invited for a meal, and don't come too early waiting for the food. But when you're invited, come in, and after eating, leave without staying around to talk. Doing that bothers the Prophet, but he's shy to tell you. Allah isn't shy to tell the truth. And if you ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a curtain. That's better for your hearts and theirs. You shouldn't bother Allah's Messenger, and you must never marry his wives after him. Doing that would be very serious to Allah.

54. Whether you show something or hide it, Allah always knows everything.

55. It's okay for the Prophet's wives to be seen by their fathers, their sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, other women, and those under their care. And always be careful to obey Allah. Allah sees everything clearly.

56. Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. Believers, you too should send blessings on him and greet him with respect.

57. Those who hurt Allah and His Messenger, Allah has cursed them in this life and the Hereafter, and He has prepared a punishment that will make them feel ashamed.

58. And those who hurt believing men and women unfairly, they carry a big lie and a clear sin.

59. Prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women who believe to cover themselves with their cloaks. This way, they'll be known and won't be bothered. Allah is always forgiving and kind.

60. If the hypocrites, those with sickness in their hearts, and those who spread lies in the city don't stop, We'll make you take action against them. Then, they won't stay near you for long.

61. They'll be cursed. Wherever they're found, they'll be caught and killed in a severe way.

62. This is Allah's way with those who lived before, and you'll never find Allah's way changing.

63. People ask you about the Hour. Say, "Only Allah knows it. How do you know? Maybe the Hour is very close."

64. Allah has cursed those who disbelieve, and He prepared a blazing fire for them.

65. They'll stay there forever. They'll find no friend and no helper.

66. On the day their faces are turned over in the fire, they'll say, "Oh, we wish we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!"

67. They'll say, "Our Lord, we obeyed our leaders and important people, but they led us away from the right path."

68. "Our Lord, give them double punishment and curse them greatly."

69. Believers, don't be like those who hurt Moses. Allah cleared him of what they said, and Moses was respected by Allah.

70. Believers, be careful to obey Allah, and always speak the truth.

71. Then He'll make your actions good and forgive your mistakes. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has won a great victory.

72. We offered the trust to the skies, the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to carry it, and were afraid of it. But the human being carried it. Humans are often unfair, and they don't understand much.

73. So Allah will punish hypocrite men and women, and those men and women who worship others besides Allah. And Allah will forgive believing men and women. Allah is always forgiving and kind.
