In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem.

2. These are the verses of the wise Book.

3. It guides and shows kindness to those who do good.

4. Those who pray regularly, give charity, and are sure about the Hereafter.

5. They follow the guidance from their Lord, and they're the ones who will succeed.

6. But some people choose silly stories to lead others away from Allah's path without knowing, and they make fun of it. They will have a shameful punishment.

7. When Our verses are read to him, he turns away proudly, as if he didn't hear them, as if his ears were blocked. Tell him about a painful punishment.

8. Those who believe and do good things will have beautiful gardens full of happiness.

9. They will stay there forever. This is Allah's true promise, and He is powerful and wise.

10. He created the skies without any pillars you can see. He placed mountains on the earth so it doesn't shake with you, and He spread all kinds of animals everywhere. And We sent down rain from the sky, making all kinds of wonderful plants grow.

11. This is Allah's creation. Now show Me what others besides Him have created. No, those who do wrong are clearly lost.

12. We gave Luqman wisdom, saying, "Be thankful to Allah." Whoever is thankful, it's good for himself. But whoever isn't thankful, Allah doesn't need anything, and He deserves all praise.

13. Luqman said to his son, teaching him kindly, "My dear son, don't worship anyone besides Allah. Worshiping others with Allah is a very big wrong."

14. We told every human being to be good to their parents. A mother carries her child, becoming weaker and weaker, and nurses the child for two years. So be thankful to Me and to your parents. You will all return to Me.

15. But if your parents try hard to make you worship something besides Me, something you don't know about, don't obey them. Still, treat them kindly in this world, and follow the path of those who turn to Me. Then you'll all come back to Me, and I'll tell you everything you did.

16. Luqman said, "My dear son, even if something is as tiny as a mustard seed, hidden inside a rock, or anywhere in the skies or the earth, Allah will bring it out. Allah is gentle and knows everything."

17. My dear child, always pray, tell others to do good, and stop them from doing wrong. Be patient when something hard happens to you. These are some of the most important things to do.

18. Don't turn your face away from people in pride, and don't walk around showing off. Allah doesn't like anyone who is proud or boastful.

19. Walk calmly and gently, and lower your voice. The most unpleasant sound is the braying of a donkey.

20. Don't you see that Allah has given you everything in the skies and on the earth to help you? He has given you so many blessings — some you can see, and some you can't. But some people still argue about Allah without knowing anything, without guidance, and without a clear book.

21. When they're told, "Follow what Allah has sent down," they say, "No, we'll follow what we found our parents doing." Even if Satan is calling them to painful punishment?

22. Whoever gives their whole self to Allah and does good has held onto the strongest handle. Everything will end up with Allah.

23. If someone doesn't believe, don't let their disbelief make you sad. They will come back to Us, and We'll tell them clearly everything they did. Allah knows exactly what's in everyone's heart.

24. We'll let them enjoy themselves for a little while, then We'll bring them to a tough punishment.

25. If you ask them, "Who created the skies and the earth?" they'll surely say, "Allah." Say, "All praise belongs to Allah." But most of them don't understand.

26. Everything in the skies and the earth belongs to Allah. Allah doesn't need anything, and He deserves all praise.

27. If all the trees on earth became pens, and the ocean became ink — with seven more oceans added to it — Allah's words would not run out. Allah is mighty and wise.

28. Creating all of you and bringing you back to life is as easy for Allah as creating just one person. Allah hears and sees everything.

29. Don't you see how Allah gently changes night into day, and day into night? He made the sun and the moon follow His rules, each moving for a set time. Allah knows everything you do.

30. This is because Allah is the Truth, and anything else people pray to besides Him is false. Allah is the Highest, the Greatest.

31. Don't you see how ships sail smoothly on the sea, because of Allah's kindness? He shows you His signs. In this are signs for everyone who is patient and thankful.

32. When waves cover them like huge shadows, they pray to Allah, sincerely asking only Him for help. But when He saves them and brings them safely to land, some of them stay in the middle. But no one rejects Our signs except people who break their promises and aren't thankful.

33. People, respect your Lord and watch out for a Day when no parent can help their child, and no child can help their parent. Allah's promise is true, so don't let this life trick you, and don't let anyone trick you about Allah.

34. Only Allah knows when the Day of Judgment will come. He sends down the rain, and He knows what's inside mothers' wombs. No one knows what they'll earn tomorrow, and no one knows in which land they'll die. Allah knows everything and is aware of all things.
