In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem.

2. Allah — there is no god except Him. He is the Ever-Living, Who takes care of everything.

3. He sent down the Book to you with truth, agreeing with what came before it. And He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.

4. Before, as guidance for people. And He sent down the Book that teaches right from wrong. Those who don't believe in Allah's verses will have a painful punishment. Allah is mighty and can punish strongly.

5. Nothing on earth or in the sky is hidden from Allah.

6. He shapes you inside your mothers however He wants. There is no god except Him. He is mighty and wise.

7. He is the One Who sent down the Book to you. Some of its verses are clear — they are the heart of the Book. Others are not as clear. Those whose hearts are not straight follow the unclear verses, trying to make trouble and find their own meaning. But only Allah knows their true meaning. Those who have deep knowledge say, "We believe in it. All of it comes from our Lord." Only people who think carefully will remember this.

8. Our Lord, don't let our hearts become crooked after You've guided us. Give us mercy from You. You are the One Who gives wonderful gifts.

9. Our Lord, You will gather all people on a Day that will surely come. Allah never breaks His promise.

10. Those who disbelieve — their money and their children won't help them at all against Allah. They will be fuel for the Fire.

11. Just like Pharaoh's people and those before them — they didn't believe Our signs, so Allah punished them for their sins. Allah is strong in punishment.

12. Say to those who disbelieve, "You will lose, and you'll be gathered into Hellfire. What a terrible place to rest!"

13. You already saw a clear sign in the two groups who met in battle. One group was fighting for Allah, and the other group didn't believe. The disbelievers saw the believers as twice as many as themselves. Allah helps whoever He wants with His victory. In this, there's a lesson for those who see clearly.

14. People love things like women, children, piles of gold and silver, fine horses, farm animals, and fields full of crops. These are just enjoyable things in this life. But with Allah, there's the best place to return.

15. Say, "Should I tell you about something better than all of that? For those who are careful to obey Allah, there are beautiful gardens with rivers flowing under them, where they'll stay forever, pure companions, and happiness from Allah." Allah sees everything His servants do.

16. They say, "Our Lord, we believe in You, so please forgive our sins, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

17. They are patient, truthful, always obey Allah, give to others, and ask for forgiveness in the early morning.

18. Allah Himself says clearly that there is no god except Him. The angels and people who have knowledge say this too. He always stands for justice. There is no god except Him — the Mighty, the Wise.

19. The true religion with Allah is Islam. Those who received the Book argued only after knowledge came to them, because they were jealous of each other. Whoever doesn't believe in Allah's signs — Allah is quick to judge.

20. If they argue with you, say, "I have given myself completely to Allah, and so have those who follow me." And ask those who received the Book and those who didn't, "Have you given yourselves to Allah?" If they do, then they're guided. But if they turn away, your job is only to deliver the message. Allah sees everything His servants do.

21. Those who don't believe in Allah's signs, who wrongly kill the prophets, and who kill people who tell people to be fair — tell them they'll have a painful punishment.

22. Their deeds are wasted in this world and the Hereafter, and they'll have no one to help them.

23. Haven't you seen those who received part of Allah's Book? They're invited to Allah's Book to judge between them, but some of them turn away and refuse to listen.

24. That's because they say, "The Fire will only touch us for a few days." The lies they made up about their religion fooled them.

25. But what will happen when We gather them on a Day that's sure to come? On that Day, everyone will get exactly what they've earned, and no one will be treated unfairly.

26. Say, "O Allah, You are the King of everything. You give rule to whoever You want, and You take rule away from whoever You want. You honor whoever You want, and You humble whoever You want. All good things are in Your hand. You can do anything.

27. You make the night turn into day, and You make the day turn into night. You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You provide for whoever You want without limit."

28. Believers shouldn't choose unbelievers as close friends instead of other believers. Whoever does that has nothing to do with Allah — unless you're careful around them to stay safe. Allah warns you about Himself, and everyone will return to Allah.

29. Say, "Whether you hide what's in your hearts or show it, Allah knows it. He knows everything in the heavens and everything on earth. Allah has power over everything."

30. On the Day when every person sees clearly all the good they've done, and all the bad they've done, they'll wish there was a huge distance between them and their bad deeds. Allah warns you about Himself, and Allah is kind and caring to His servants.

31. Say, "If you love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive your mistakes. Allah is forgiving and kind."

32. Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away, then remember, Allah doesn't love those who don't believe.

33. Allah chose Adam, Noah, Abraham's family, and Imran's family over all other people.

34. They are families connected to each other. Allah hears everything and knows everything.

35. Remember when Imran's wife said, "My Lord, I promise to give You the child inside me, to serve You completely. Please accept this from me. You hear everything and know everything."

36. When she had the baby, she said, "My Lord, I've had a girl." Allah knew best what she had, and a boy isn't the same as a girl. She said, "I've named her Mary, and I ask You to protect her and her children from the evil devil."

37. Her Lord kindly accepted Mary, and helped her grow up in a good way. He put Zechariah in charge of taking care of her. Every time Zechariah visited Mary in her special prayer room, he found food with her. He asked, "Mary, where did you get this?" She said, "It's from Allah. Allah gives to whoever He wants without limit."

38. Right then, Zechariah prayed to his Lord, saying, "My Lord, please give me a good child. You always hear prayers."

39. The angels called to him while he was standing and praying in his special prayer room. They said, "Allah gives you good news of John. He will believe in Allah's special word, and he'll be a leader, pure-hearted, and a prophet from among the good people."

40. Zechariah said, "My Lord, how can I have a son? I'm very old, and my wife can't have children." Allah answered, "That's how Allah does whatever He wants."

41. Zechariah said, "My Lord, please give me a sign." Allah said, "Your sign is that you won't speak to people for three days, except by signals. Remember your Lord often, and praise Him in the evening and in the morning."

42. The angels said, "Mary, Allah has chosen you, made you pure, and chosen you above all other women."

43. "Mary, be devoted to your Lord, bow down, and pray with those who pray."

44. This is news about hidden things that We tell you. You weren't there when they threw their pens to decide who would take care of Mary. And you weren't there when they argued about it.

45. The angels said, "Mary, Allah gives you good news of a special word from Him. His name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary. He will be honored in this world and the Hereafter, and he'll be close to Allah."

46. "He will speak to people when he's a baby and when he's grown up, and he'll be one of those who do good."

47. Mary said, "My Lord, how can I have a child when no human has touched me?" Allah said, "That's how Allah creates whatever He wants. When He decides something, He just says, 'Be,' and it is."

48. Allah will teach him the Book, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel.

49. And He will make him a messenger to the Children of Israel, saying, "I've come to you with a miracle from your Lord. I'll make something from clay shaped like a bird, then I'll blow into it, and it will become a real bird, by Allah's permission. I'll heal those born blind and those with skin diseases, and I'll bring the dead back to life, by Allah's permission. I'll tell you what you eat and what you keep stored in your homes. This is a clear sign for you, if you believe."

50. "I confirm the Torah that came before me, and I'll make some things allowed for you that were forbidden before. I've come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be careful to obey Allah and follow me."

51. "Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path."

52. When Jesus felt they didn't believe, he asked, "Who will be my helpers for Allah's cause?" His disciples said, "We will be helpers for Allah's cause. We believe in Allah, so be our witness that we are Muslims."

53. "Our Lord, we believe in what You sent down, and we follow the messenger. So write our names with those who witness the truth."

54. They made secret plans, but Allah also made His plan. Allah is the best of planners.

55. Remember when Allah said, "Jesus, I will take you back, lift you up to Me, and keep you away from those who don't believe. I'll make those who follow you higher than those who don't believe, until the Day of Judgment. Then you'll all come back to Me, and I'll decide between you about the things you argued over."

56. Those who don't believe, I'll punish them greatly in this world and the Hereafter, and they'll have no one to help them.

57. But those who believe and do good things, Allah will give them their full reward. Allah doesn't love those who are unfair.

58. These are the verses and wise lessons We tell you.

59. To Allah, Jesus is like Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, "Be," and he was.

60. This is the truth from your Lord, so don't be one of those who doubt.

61. If anyone argues with you about this after the knowledge has come to you, say, "Come, let's call our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. Then let's pray sincerely and ask Allah to curse the liars."

62. This is the true story. There is no god except Allah, and Allah is the Mighty, the Wise.

63. If they turn away, then Allah knows those who do bad things.

64. Say, "People of the Book, come to a fair word between us and you — that we worship no one except Allah, we don't join anything with Him, and we don't treat each other like gods instead of Allah." But if they turn away, say, "Be witnesses that we are Muslims."

65. People of the Book, why do you argue about Abraham? The Torah and the Gospel were sent only after him. Don't you understand?

66. Here you are, arguing about things you know. So why do you argue about things you don't know? Allah knows, and you don't know.

67. Abraham wasn't Jewish or Christian. He was someone who worshiped only Allah — a Muslim — and he was not one of those who join others with Allah.

68. The closest people to Abraham are those who followed him, this Prophet, and those who believe. Allah is the protector of all believers.

69. Some people of the Book wish they could lead you away from the right path. But they're only leading themselves away, and they don't realize it.

70. People of the Book, why don't you believe in Allah's verses, even though you see they're true?

71. People of the Book, why do you mix truth with falsehood, and hide the truth, even though you know it?

72. Some people of the Book said, "Believe in what was given to the believers at the start of the day, then stop believing at the end of the day. Maybe they'll turn back."

73. And they said, "Don't believe anyone except those who follow your religion." Say, "True guidance is Allah's guidance. Are you worried someone else might be given what you were given, or that they'll argue against you before your Lord?" Say, "All blessings are in Allah's hand. He gives them to whoever He wants. Allah is generous and knows everything."

74. He chooses whoever He wants for His special kindness. Allah is full of great blessings.

75. Some people of the Book are honest — if you trust them with a huge treasure, they'll give it back to you. But others aren't honest — even if you trust them with just one coin, they won't give it back unless you keep asking them. That's because they say, "We don't have to be fair to people who aren't like us." They tell lies about Allah, and they know it.

76. But whoever keeps their promises and is careful to obey Allah — Allah loves those who are careful to obey Him.

77. Those who break their promises to Allah and tell lies just to get a small reward — they won't have any share of good things in the Hereafter. Allah won't speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, and He won't make them pure. They'll have a painful punishment.

78. Some of them twist their tongues when reading the Book, so you'll think it's from the Book — but it's not from the Book. They say, "This is from Allah," but it's not from Allah. They tell lies about Allah, and they know it.

79. No human being would ever be given the Book, wisdom, and prophethood by Allah, and then say to people, "Worship me instead of Allah." Instead, he'd say, "Be people who belong to Allah, because you teach the Book and study it."

80. He wouldn't tell you to take angels or prophets as lords. Would he tell you to disbelieve after you've already submitted to Allah?

81. Remember when Allah made a promise with the prophets, saying, "When I give you the Book and wisdom, and then a messenger comes to you, agreeing with what you have — you must believe in him and help him." Allah asked, "Do you agree and accept My promise?" They said, "We agree." Allah said, "Then be witnesses, and I'm a witness with you."

82. Whoever turns away after this — they're the ones who disobey Allah.

83. Do they want something other than Allah's religion? Everyone in the heavens and the earth obeys Him, willingly or unwillingly, and they'll all return to Him.

84. Say, "We believe in Allah, and in what was given to us, and what was given to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, and what was given to Moses, Jesus, and all the prophets from their Lord. We don't treat any of them differently, and to Him we submit."

85. Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it won't be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he'll be among the losers.

86. How can Allah guide people who stopped believing after they believed, even after they saw clearly that the Messenger was telling the truth, and clear proofs came to them? Allah doesn't guide people who do wrong.

87. Their punishment is that Allah, the angels, and all people will curse them.

88. They'll remain in it forever. Their punishment won't get easier, and they won't get another chance.

89. But those who repent and make things right afterward — Allah is Forgiving and Kind.

90. Those who stopped believing after they believed, and then increased in disbelief — their repentance won't be accepted. They're the ones who are lost.

91. Those who disbelieved and died as disbelievers, even if they offered the whole earth filled with gold to save themselves, it wouldn't be accepted from them. They'll have a painful punishment, and no one will help them.

92. You won't reach goodness until you give away some of what you love. Whatever you give, Allah knows about it.

93. All food was allowed for the Children of Israel, except what Israel made forbidden for himself before the Torah was given. Say, "Bring the Torah and read it, if you're telling the truth."

94. Whoever makes up lies about Allah after this, they're the ones who do wrong.

95. Say, "Allah has spoken the truth, so follow the way of Abraham, who worshiped only Allah and never worshiped others."

96. The first House built for people was the one in Bakkah — a blessed place and a guide for everyone.

97. In it are clear signs, like the place where Abraham stood. Whoever enters it will be safe. Allah has made it a duty for people who are able to do so, to make the pilgrimage to this House. But if anyone doesn't believe, Allah doesn't need anyone or anything.

98. Say, "People of the Book, why don't you believe in Allah's verses? Allah sees everything you do."

99. Say, "People of the Book, why do you stop believers from following Allah's way? You try to make it seem wrong, even though you know it's right. Allah isn't unaware of what you're doing."

100. Believers, if you listen to some of the People of the Book, they'll turn you away from believing, even after you've believed.

101. How could you stop believing, when Allah's verses are being read to you, and His Messenger is with you? Whoever holds tightly to Allah is guided to the straight path.

102. Believers, always respect Allah as He deserves, and don't die except as Muslims.

103. Hold tightly, all together, to Allah's rope, and don't become divided. Remember Allah's blessing on you — you used to be enemies, but He brought your hearts together, and by His blessing, you became brothers. You were at the edge of a pit of fire, and He saved you from it. This is how Allah clearly shows you His signs, so you can be guided.

104. Let there be a group among you who invite others to goodness, encourage doing what's right, and stop what's wrong. Those are the successful ones.

105. Don't be like those who became divided and argued after clear signs came to them. They'll have a great punishment.

106. On the Day when some faces will be bright, and some faces will be dark — those with dark faces will be asked, "Did you stop believing after you had believed? Now taste the punishment because you didn't believe."

107. But those with bright faces will be in Allah's mercy, staying there forever.

108. These are Allah's verses that We read to you truthfully. Allah doesn't want to be unfair to anyone.

109. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, and all things return to Allah.

110. You are the best people brought out for all people. You tell others to do good, you stop them from doing wrong, and you believe in Allah. If the People of the Book believed, it would be better for them. Some of them believe, but most of them disobey.

111. They can't really hurt you — only bother you a little. If they fight you, they'll turn around and run away, and no one will help them.

112. Wherever they go, shame will follow them, except with a bond from Allah or a bond from people. They earned Allah's anger, and misery covers them. This is because they didn't believe in Allah's signs and unfairly killed the prophets. They disobeyed and went too far.

113. But they're not all the same. Some of the People of the Book stand up for what's right. They read Allah's verses during the night, and they bow down to Him.

114. They believe in Allah and the Last Day. They tell others to do good, stop them from doing wrong, and hurry to do good things. These people are among the righteous.

115. Whatever good they do, they'll never lose their reward. Allah knows those who are careful to obey Him.

116. Those who disbelieve — their money and children won't help them at all against Allah. They're the people of the Fire, and they'll stay there forever.

117. What they spend in this life is like a cold, icy wind that hits the crops of people who wronged themselves. It destroys them. Allah didn't treat them unfairly — they treated themselves unfairly.

118. You who believe, don't choose close friends from outside your group. They won't stop trying to harm you, and they wish you'd get hurt. Hatred already shows from their mouths, but what they hide in their hearts is even worse. We've made the signs clear for you, if you understand.

119. Here you are — you love them, but they don't love you. You believe in the whole Book. When they meet you, they say, "We believe," but when they're alone, they bite their fingers because they're so angry at you. Say, "Die in your anger!" Allah knows what's hidden in their hearts.

120. If something good happens to you, it makes them unhappy. But if something bad happens to you, they're glad. If you're patient and careful to obey Allah, their tricks won't hurt you at all. Allah surrounds everything they do.

121. Remember when you left your family early in the morning, to put the believers in their places for the battle. Allah hears everything, and He knows everything.

122. Two groups among you almost lost courage, but Allah was their protector. Believers should always trust Allah.

123. Allah helped you win at Badr, even though you were weak. Always respect Allah, so you may be thankful.

124. Remember when you said to the believers, "Isn't it enough that your Lord will help you by sending down three thousand angels?"

125. Yes! If you're patient, careful to obey Allah, and the enemy suddenly attacks you, your Lord will help you with five thousand angels clearly marked.

126. Allah made this promise only as good news for you, and to make your hearts feel calm. Victory comes only from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.

127. He did this to defeat some of the disbelievers, or to make them lose hope, so they'd go back disappointed.

128. You have no say in the matter. Allah might forgive them, or He might punish them, because they've done wrong.

129. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. He forgives whoever He wants, and He punishes whoever He wants. Allah is forgiving and kind.

130. You who believe, don't take extra money from people, making them pay back much more than they borrowed. Be careful to obey Allah, so you can succeed.

131. Watch out for the Fire that's prepared for those who don't believe.

132. Obey Allah and the Messenger, so you can receive mercy.

133. Hurry towards forgiveness from your Lord, and towards a beautiful Garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who are careful to obey Allah.

134. They give to others in good times and hard times, control their anger, and forgive people. Allah loves those who do good.

135. And when they do something shameful or hurt themselves, they remember Allah and ask Him to forgive their sins. Who can forgive sins except Allah? And they don't keep doing wrong things when they know.

136. Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and beautiful Gardens with rivers flowing underneath, where they'll stay forever. What a wonderful reward for those who do good!

137. Many things have happened to people before you, so travel around the earth and see what happened to those who didn't believe the truth.

138. This is a clear message for all people, and guidance and good advice for those careful to obey Allah.

139. Don't lose hope, and don't be sad. You're the highest, if you truly believe.

140. If you're hurt, remember that others have been hurt just like you. These days of good and bad times, We give to people by turns, so Allah can show clearly who truly believes and choose some of you as heroes. Allah doesn't love those who are unfair.

141. And Allah tests and purifies those who believe, and removes those who don't believe.

142. Did you think you'd enter Paradise before Allah clearly shows who among you tries hard and who is patient?

143. You used to wish to face death before you saw it. Now you've seen it with your own eyes.

144. Muhammad is only a messenger, and many messengers have come before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back and stop believing? Anyone who turns back won't hurt Allah at all. And Allah will reward those who are thankful.

145. No one can die without Allah's permission. Everyone has a set time. Whoever wants rewards in this world, We'll give them some. And whoever wants rewards in the Hereafter, We'll give them some. And We'll reward those who are thankful.

146. Many prophets had godly people fighting beside them. They didn't lose courage when hard things happened to them in Allah's way. They didn't become weak or give up. And Allah loves those who are patient.

147. All they said was, "Our Lord, forgive our mistakes and the times we went too far. Keep our feet steady, and help us win against the disbelieving people."

148. So Allah gave them rewards in this world and the best rewards in the Hereafter. And Allah loves those who do good.

149. You who believe, if you listen to those who disbelieve, they'll make you turn back, and you'll become losers.

150. But Allah is your Protector, and He's the best Helper.

151. We'll put fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they worshiped others along with Allah without any proof. Their home will be the Fire. And that's a terrible place for those who do wrong.

152. Allah kept His promise to you when you were winning against them by His permission. But then you lost courage, argued with each other, and disobeyed after He showed you what you loved. Some of you wanted rewards in this world, and some wanted rewards in the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them to test you. But He forgave you. And Allah is very kind to the believers.

153. Remember when you were running away without looking back at anyone, and the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allah gave you sadness after sadness, so you wouldn't feel too sad about what you missed or what happened to you. And Allah knows everything you do.

154. Then, after the sadness, He sent down peaceful sleep that covered some of you. But others were worried only about themselves. They thought wrong thoughts about Allah, like people who don't understand. They said, "Do we have any say in this?" Say, "Everything is decided by Allah." They hide inside themselves what they don't show you. They say, "If we had any say, we wouldn't have been killed here." Say, "Even if you had stayed in your homes, those who were meant to be killed would have come out to the places where they would die." Allah tests what's in your hearts and cleans your hearts. And Allah knows what's deep inside your hearts.

155. Those of you who turned away on the day the two groups met — it was Satan who made them slip because of some wrong things they had done. But Allah forgave them. Allah is forgiving and patient.

156. Believers, don't be like those who disbelieve. They say about their brothers who travel or go out to fight, "If they had stayed with us, they wouldn't have died or been killed." Allah makes these words a sadness in their hearts. But it's Allah Who gives life and causes death. And Allah sees everything you do.

157. If you're killed or die in Allah's way, then Allah's forgiveness and kindness are better than all the things people collect.

158. And if you die or are killed, you'll be gathered back to Allah.

159. Because of Allah's kindness, you were gentle with them. If you had been harsh and mean-hearted, they would have left you. So forgive them, ask Allah to forgive them, and talk with them about what to do. Then, when you've decided, trust in Allah. Allah loves those who trust Him.

160. If Allah helps you, no one can beat you. But if He doesn't help you, who else can help you after Him? Believers should trust in Allah.

161. A prophet would never take anything in a dishonest way. Anyone who takes things dishonestly will bring what they took with them on the Day of Judgment. On that day, everyone will get exactly what they deserve, and no one will be treated unfairly.

162. Is someone who follows what makes Allah happy the same as someone who makes Allah angry with him, whose home is the Fire? What a terrible place to end up!

163. People have different levels with Allah. And Allah sees everything they do.

164. Allah has been very kind to the believers. He sent them a messenger from among themselves, who reads His verses to them, helps them become pure, and teaches them the Book and wisdom. Before this, they were clearly lost.

165. When something bad happens to you, even though you had caused twice as much to them before, you ask, "Why did this happen?" Say, "It's because of what you yourselves did." Allah has power over everything.

166. What happened to you on the day the two groups met was by Allah's permission, so He could clearly show who the true believers are.

167. And so He could clearly show who the pretenders are. When they were told, "Come, fight for Allah or at least defend," they said, "If we knew there would be fighting, we would have followed you." On that day, they were closer to disbelief than belief. They say with their mouths what isn't in their hearts. Allah knows best what they're hiding.

168. These are the ones who stayed behind and said about their brothers, "If they had listened to us, they wouldn't have been killed." Say, "Then keep death away from yourselves, if you're telling the truth."

169. Don't think that those who died for Allah are dead. They're alive with their Lord, and He gives them good things.

170. They're happy because of the gifts Allah gave them. And they're joyful for those who haven't joined them yet, because there's no fear or sadness for them.

171. They're joyful because of Allah's kindness and gifts, and because Allah never wastes the reward of those who believe.

172. Those who answered Allah and the Messenger after they were hurt — those who did good things and were careful to obey Allah — will have a great reward.

173. People said to them, "Others have gathered against you, so be afraid!" But this only made their faith stronger, and they said, "Allah is enough for us, and He's the best protector."

174. So they returned with Allah's kindness and gifts. Nothing bad happened to them, and they followed what pleases Allah. Allah is very generous.

175. It's only Satan who tries to scare you with his friends. Don't be afraid of them, but be afraid of Me, if you truly believe.

176. Don't be sad about those who rush to disbelieve. They can't harm Allah at all. Allah wants them to have no share in the Hereafter, and they'll have a great punishment.

177. Those who choose disbelief instead of belief can't harm Allah at all, and they'll have a painful punishment.

178. Those who disbelieve shouldn't think that the extra time We give them is good for them. We only give them more time so they'll do more bad things, and they'll have a shameful punishment.

179. Allah won't leave the believers as you are now, until He separates the bad from the good. Allah won't show you hidden things, but He chooses whichever messengers He wants. So believe in Allah and His messengers. If you believe and are careful to obey Allah, you'll have a great reward.

180. Those who are stingy with the gifts Allah gave them shouldn't think it's good for them. It's actually bad for them. On the Day of Judgment, the things they were stingy with will surround them. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, and Allah knows everything you do.

181. Allah has heard those who said, "Allah is poor, and we are rich." We will write down what they said, and how they killed the prophets unfairly. And We will say, "Taste the punishment of the burning Fire!"

182. This is because of what your own hands have done. Allah is never unfair to His servants.

183. They also said, "Allah told us not to believe any messenger unless he brings us an offering that fire eats up." Say, "Messengers before me came to you with clear signs and even with what you asked for. Then why did you kill them, if you're telling the truth?"

184. If they call you a liar, remember that messengers before you were also called liars. They came with clear signs, holy writings, and the shining Book.

185. Every person will taste death. On the Day of Judgment, you'll get your full reward. Whoever is kept away from the Fire and enters Paradise has succeeded. This life is only a short enjoyment that can trick you.

186. You will surely be tested in your money and yourselves. And you'll hear many hurtful things from those who received the Book before you, and from those who worship others besides Allah. But if you're patient and careful to obey Allah, that's the best thing to do.

187. Remember when Allah made a promise with those who received the Book, saying, "You must clearly explain it to people, and never hide it." But they threw it behind their backs and traded it for a small price. What a bad trade they made!

188. Don't think those who are proud of what they've done, and who love to be praised for things they didn't do, will escape punishment. They'll have a painful punishment.

189. The kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. And Allah has power over everything.

190. In the creation of the skies and the earth, and the changing of night and day, there are clear signs for people who think carefully.

191. They remember Allah when they're standing, sitting, and lying down. They think deeply about how Allah created the skies and the earth, and they say, "Our Lord, You didn't create all this without a reason. You are perfect — please protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

192. "Our Lord, whoever You send into the Fire, You have truly shamed them. And those who do wrong won't have anyone to help them."

193. "Our Lord, we heard someone calling us to believe, saying, 'Believe in your Lord,' so we believed. Our Lord, please forgive our mistakes, erase our bad deeds, and let us die together with the good people."

194. "Our Lord, please give us what You promised us through Your messengers, and don't shame us on the Day of Judgment. You never break Your promises."

195. So their Lord answered them, "I will never waste the good deeds of anyone who does good, whether male or female — you all belong together. Those who had to leave their homes, who were forced out, who were hurt because of Me, who fought and were killed — I will erase their bad deeds and bring them into beautiful gardens with rivers flowing underneath. This is a wonderful reward from Allah, and Allah has the best rewards."

196. Don't let the success of those who disbelieve, moving freely from place to place, fool you.

197. It's just a short enjoyment — then their home will be Hell, and that's a terrible place to rest.

198. But those who are careful to obey their Lord will have gardens with rivers flowing underneath, where they'll stay forever. This is a special welcome from Allah, and what Allah has is best for the good people.

199. Some people from the People of the Book believe in Allah, and in what was given to you, and in what was given to them. They respect Allah deeply, and they don't trade Allah's verses for a small price. They will have their reward with their Lord. Allah is quick to settle everyone's account.

200. You who believe, be patient, stay strong, and hold firmly together. Always be careful to obey Allah, so you can succeed.
