In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Alif. Lam. Meem.
2. Do people think they'll be left alone to say, "We believe," without being tested?
3. We tested those who lived before them. Allah will clearly show who is truthful, and He will clearly show who is lying.
4. Do those who do bad things think they can escape from Us? What a bad decision they make!
5. Whoever hopes to meet Allah, Allah's promised time will surely come. He hears everything and knows everything.
6. Whoever tries hard to do good, they're doing it for their own good. Allah doesn't need anything from anyone in the whole world.
7. Those who believe and do good things, We'll erase their mistakes and reward them for the best things they've done.
8. We've told every human being to be kind to their parents. But if your parents try hard to make you worship something besides Me, something you don't know about, don't obey them. You'll all come back to Me, and I'll tell you clearly everything you've done.
9. Those who believe and do good things, We'll surely let them join the good people.
10. Some people say, "We believe in Allah," but when they're hurt because of believing in Allah, they treat people's trouble as if it were Allah's punishment. But if help comes from your Lord, they quickly say, "We were always with you!" Doesn't Allah know best what's inside everyone's hearts?
11. Allah will clearly show who truly believes, and He will clearly show who pretends to believe.
12. Those who don't believe say to those who believe, "Follow our way, and we'll carry your mistakes for you." But they won't carry anyone else's mistakes at all. They're lying.
13. They'll carry their own heavy loads, and even more heavy loads along with theirs. On the Day of Judgment, they'll surely be asked about the lies they made up.
14. We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed with them for nine hundred fifty years. Then the flood came and took them away, because they were doing wrong.
15. But We saved Noah and those who were with him on the ship, and We made it a sign for all people.
16. And remember Abraham, when he said to his people, "Worship Allah and be careful to obey Him. That's better for you, if you only knew.
17. You're worshiping statues instead of Allah, and you're making up lies. Those you worship besides Allah can't give you anything. So ask Allah for what you need, worship Him, and thank Him. You'll return to Him."
18. If you say this isn't true, other people before you said the same thing. The messenger's job is only to clearly deliver Allah's message.
19. Don't they see how Allah starts creation, then brings it back again? That's easy for Allah.
20. Say, "Travel around the earth and see how Allah started creation. Then Allah will create everything again. Allah has power over everything.
21. He punishes whoever He wants, and He shows kindness to whoever He wants. And you'll all return to Him.
22. You can't escape from Allah on earth or in the sky. And besides Allah, you have no protector or helper."
23. Those who don't believe in Allah's signs and in meeting Him — they've lost hope in My kindness, and they'll have a painful punishment.
24. Abraham's people had only one answer. They said, "Kill him or burn him!" But Allah saved him from the fire. In this, there are signs for people who believe.
25. Abraham said, "You worship statues instead of Allah, just because you like each other in this life. But on the Day of Judgment, you'll reject each other and curse each other. Your home will be the Fire, and you'll have no helpers."
26. Then Lot believed Abraham and said, "I'm leaving my home to go to my Lord. He is the Mighty, the Wise."
27. And We gave Abraham Isaac and Jacob, and We made some of his descendants prophets and gave them holy books. We rewarded him in this life, and in the Hereafter, he'll be among the good people.
28. And remember Lot, when he said to his people, "You're doing terrible things that no one before you ever did.
29. You're doing wrong things with men, robbing travelers on the road, and doing bad things openly in your meetings." But his people had only one answer. They said, "Bring Allah's punishment to us, if you're telling the truth!"
30. Lot prayed, "My Lord, help me against these corruptors."
31. When Our messengers brought good news to Abraham, they said, "We're going to destroy the people of this town, because they've been doing wrong."
32. Abraham said, "But Lot is there!" They replied, "We know exactly who's there. We'll save him and his family, except his wife — she'll be among those who stay behind."
33. When Our messengers came to Lot, he felt worried about them. They said, "Don't be afraid or sad. We'll save you and your family, except your wife — she will stay behind."
34. "We're going to send down a punishment from the sky on the people of this town, because they've been doing bad things."
35. And We left a clear sign from that town for people who think carefully.
36. And to Midian, We sent their brother Shuayb. He said, "My people, worship Allah, expect the Last Day, and don't cause trouble or spoil things on earth."
37. But they didn't believe him, so an earthquake struck them, and in the morning, they were lying lifeless in their homes.
38. And remember Aad and Thamud — you have seen their homes. Satan made their bad actions look good to them, so he led them away from the right path, even though they could see clearly.
39. And remember Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman. Moses came to them with clear signs, but they acted proudly on earth, and they couldn't get away.
40. We punished each of them for their sins. Some We sent a storm of stones on, some were destroyed by a loud blast, some We made the earth swallow, and some We drowned. Allah was not unfair to them — they were unfair to themselves.
41. Those who choose protectors other than Allah are like a spider that builds its web. And the weakest of all houses is the spider's web, if only they knew.
42. Allah knows everything they worship besides Him. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
43. These examples We give to people, but only those who have knowledge understand them.
44. Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth. In this, there's a clear sign for those who believe.
45. Read what was revealed to you from the Book, and pray regularly. Prayer stops you from doing bad and wrong things. Remembering Allah is even greater, and Allah knows everything you do.
46. Don't argue with the People of the Book, except in the nicest way — except for those among them who do wrong. Say, "We believe in what was given to us, and in what was given to you. Our God and your God is One, and we obey Him."
47. This is how We sent down the Book to you. Those who received the Book before believe in it, and some of these people also believe in it. Only those who don't believe refuse to accept Our signs.
48. Before this, you didn't read any book, or write anything with your right hand. If you had, the ones who make things up would have doubted.
49. But these are clear verses in the hearts of people who have knowledge. Only those who do wrong refuse to believe Our verses.
50. They say, "Why weren't miracles sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Miracles are only with Allah. I'm here just to warn you clearly."
51. Isn't it enough for them that We sent down the Book to you, which is read to them? In that, there is mercy, and a reminder for people who believe.
52. Say, "Allah is enough as a witness between you and me. He knows everything in the heavens and the earth. Those who believe in falsehood and reject Allah — they're the ones who lose."
53. They ask you to hurry up the punishment. If Allah hadn't set a certain time, the punishment would have already come to them. It will come suddenly, when they don't expect it.
54. They ask you to hurry up the punishment, but Hellfire will surround those who don't believe.
55. On the day when punishment covers them from above and from under their feet, it will be said, "Taste what you used to do."
56. My servants who believe, My earth is vast, so worship Me alone.
57. Every person will taste death. Then to Us you'll all be returned.
58. Those who believe and do good things, We will settle them in Paradise in beautiful rooms, with rivers flowing underneath. They'll stay there forever. What a wonderful reward for those who do good!
59. They're patient and put their trust in their Lord.
60. How many creatures are there that don't carry their own food? Allah gives food to them and to you. He hears everything and knows everything.
61. If you ask them, "Who created the skies and the earth, and made the sun and the moon work for us?" they'll say, "Allah." Then why do they turn away?
62. Allah gives plenty to whichever of His servants He wants, and He gives less to others. Allah knows everything.
63. If you ask them, "Who sends down rain from the sky and brings the earth back to life after it was dead?" they'll say, "Allah." Say, "All praise belongs to Allah." But most of them don't understand.
64. This life is only play and fun. But the home in the Hereafter — that's the real life, if only they knew.
65. When they ride on a ship, they pray to Allah, worshiping Him sincerely. But when He saves them and brings them safely to land, suddenly they worship others along with Him.
66. They do this so they won't be thankful for what We gave them, and to enjoy themselves for a while. Soon they'll understand.
67. Don't they see that We made a safe place for them, while people around them are taken away? Do they believe in false things and ignore Allah's blessings?
68. Who could be more unfair than someone who makes up lies about Allah, or doesn't believe the truth when it comes to them? Isn't Hellfire the place for those who don't believe?
69. Those who work hard for Our sake, We will surely guide them to Our paths. Allah is always with those who do good.
