In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Ta. Seen. Meem.
2. These are the verses of the clear Book.
3. We will tell you the true story of Moses and Pharaoh, for people who believe.
4. Pharaoh became very proud in the land. He divided the people into groups, and treated one group very badly. He killed their baby boys, but let their girls live. He was one of the corruptors.
5. But We wanted to be kind to the people who were treated badly. We wanted to make them leaders and let them inherit the land.
6. We wanted to give them power in the land, and to show Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers exactly what they were afraid of.
7. We inspired Moses' mother, "Feed your baby. But if you're afraid for him, put him into the river. Don't be scared, and don't be sad. We will bring him back to you, and We will make him one of Our messengers."
8. Then Pharaoh's family found him and picked him up. They didn't know he would become their enemy and bring them sadness. Pharaoh, Haman, and their soldiers were doing wrong.
9. Pharaoh's wife said, "This baby will bring joy to me and you. Don't kill him. Maybe he'll help us, or we can take him as our own son." But they didn't realize what would happen.
10. Moses' mother's heart became empty. She almost showed everyone he was her son. But We made her heart strong, so she would stay one of the believers.
11. She said to Moses' sister, "Follow him." So his sister watched him secretly from far away, and no one noticed her.
12. We didn't let him drink milk from any other woman before. So his sister said, "Should I show you a family who can take care of him for you, and who will be kind to him?"
13. This way, We brought him back to his mother, to comfort her eyes and stop her sadness, and so she would know that Allah's promise is true. But most people don't know.
14. When Moses grew up and became a strong adult, We gave him wisdom and knowledge. That's how We reward people who do good.
15. One day, Moses went into the city when people weren't paying attention. He saw two men fighting — one from his people, and the other from their enemies. The man from his people asked Moses for help, so Moses hit the enemy, and the man died. Moses said, "This is from Satan's doing. He is a clear enemy who leads people the wrong way."
16. Moses prayed, "My Lord, I've done something wrong. Please forgive me." So Allah forgave him. Allah is the Most Forgiving, Most Kind.
17. Moses said, "My Lord, because You've been so kind to me, I'll never help people who do bad things."
18. The next morning, Moses was in the city, feeling afraid and watching carefully. Suddenly, the same man who asked for help yesterday was calling loudly for help again. Moses said to him, "You're clearly causing trouble."
19. Moses was about to hit the man who was their enemy, but the man shouted, "Moses, do you want to kill me like you killed someone yesterday? You just want to be a bossy person on earth, not someone who helps fix things."
20. Then a man came running from far away in the city. He said, "Moses, the leaders are planning to kill you. Hurry and leave! I'm giving you good advice."
21. Moses left the city, feeling afraid and watching carefully. He prayed, "My Lord, please save me from these people who do wrong."
22. When Moses headed toward Midian, he said, "I hope my Lord will guide me to the right way."
23. When he arrived at the water of Midian, he saw many people giving water to their animals. He also saw two women standing back, keeping their animals away. Moses asked them, "What's the matter?" They said, "We can't give our animals water until the shepherds finish. Our father is a very old man."
24. So Moses gave water to their animals for them. Then he went to sit in the shade and prayed, "My Lord, I really need any good You send my way."
25. Soon, one of the two women came to him, walking shyly. She said, "My father is inviting you to reward you for helping us." When Moses came and told him his story, the father said, "Don't be afraid. You're safe now from those people who do wrong."
26. One of the daughters said, "Father, please hire him. The best person you can hire is someone strong and trustworthy."
27. The father said, "I'd like you to marry one of my two daughters, if you agree to work for me for eight years. If you stay for ten years, that will be your choice. I don't want to make things hard for you. Allah willing, you'll find me to be a good person."
28. Moses said, "That's agreed between you and me. Whichever time I complete, there will be no blame on me. Allah is watching over what we say."
29. When Moses finished his promise and traveled with his family, he saw a fire near the mountain. He said to his family, "Wait here. I see a fire. Maybe I can bring you some news, or a burning stick, so you can warm yourselves."
30. When he reached the fire, a voice called to him from the right side of the valley, from a blessed spot, from the tree, "Moses, I am Allah, the Lord of everyone and everything."
31. "Throw down your stick." When Moses saw it moving like a snake, he turned and ran away without looking back. Allah said, "Moses, come closer and don't be afraid. You're safe."
32. "Put your hand inside your pocket. It will come out shining white, without any harm. And hold your arm close to you, so you won't be scared. These are two proofs from your Lord for Pharaoh and his people. They are people who disobey Allah."
33. Moses said, "My Lord, I killed one of them, and I'm afraid they'll kill me."
34. "And my brother Aaron speaks better than me. Please send him with me to help me and support what I say. I'm afraid they won't believe me."
35. Allah said, "We will help you by sending your brother with you. We'll give you both strength, so they can't hurt you. With Our signs, you two and those who follow you will win."
36. When Moses came to them with Our clear signs, they said, "This is just made-up magic. We've never heard of anything like this from our ancestors."
37. Moses said, "My Lord knows best who brings true guidance from Him and who will have a happy ending. Those who do wrong will never succeed."
38. Pharaoh said, "My people, I don't know any god for you except me. Haman, bake bricks out of clay and build me a high tower, so I can climb up and look at Moses' God. I think he's lying."
39. Pharaoh and his soldiers acted proudly and unfairly on earth. They thought they would never return to Us.
40. So We took Pharaoh and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. See what happened to those who did wrong.
41. We made them leaders who called people to the Fire. On the Day of Judgment, no one will help them.
42. In this world, We made people remember them with a curse. And on the Day of Judgment, they'll be among those who look terrible.
43. We gave Moses the Book, after We had destroyed the earlier people. It was full of lessons, guidance, and kindness for people, so they might remember.
44. You weren't there on the western side when We gave Moses Our command, and you didn't see it happen.
45. But We created many generations after Moses, and a long time passed. You weren't living with the people of Midian, reading Our verses to them — but We sent messengers.
46. And you weren't there by the mountain when We called out to Moses. But this is a kindness from your Lord, so you can warn people who didn't have anyone to warn them before. Maybe they'll remember.
47. If something bad happened to them because of the wrong things they did, they might say, "Our Lord, why didn't You send us a messenger? Then we could have followed Your verses and believed."
48. But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why wasn't he given something like what Moses was given?" Didn't they disbelieve in what Moses was given before? They said, "These are two magicians supporting each other," and they said, "We will never believe in either of them."
49. Say, "Then bring a book from Allah that's better at guiding than these two, and I'll follow it, if you're telling the truth."
50. If they don't answer you, then know they're just following what they want. Who could be more lost than someone who follows what he wants instead of Allah's guidance? Allah doesn't guide people who do wrong.
51. We've explained Our words clearly to them, so they might remember.
52. Those who received the Book before this — they believe in it.
53. When it's read to them, they say, "We believe in it. It's the truth from our Lord. Even before this, we were already submitting to Allah."
54. They'll get their reward twice, because they were patient. They push away bad things by doing good, and they give from what We provided them.
55. When they hear useless talk, they turn away from it and say, "We have our actions, and you have yours. Peace be with you. We don't want to be with those who act ignorantly."
56. You can't guide everyone you love, but Allah guides whoever He wants. He knows best who will follow the right way.
57. They say, "If we follow the guidance with you, we'll be taken away from our land." Didn't We make a safe place for them, where all kinds of fruits and food come as a gift from Us? But most of them don't understand.
58. How many towns have We destroyed because they became arrogant about their good living? Their homes were hardly lived in after them, and We became the owners of everything.
59. Your Lord wouldn't destroy towns until He sent a messenger to their main city, reading Our verses to them. And We wouldn't destroy towns unless their people were doing wrong.
60. Whatever you've been given is just enjoyment and decoration for this life. But what Allah has is better and lasts longer. Won't you understand?
61. Is someone who We promised a wonderful promise — and who will surely get it — like someone who We gave nice things in this life, but on the Day of Judgment will be brought out?
62. On that Day, Allah will call them and say, "Where are those partners you used to imagine?"
63. Those who deserve punishment will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led astray. We led them astray because we ourselves were lost. We declare our innocence to You. They didn't really worship us."
64. Then they'll be told, "Call those partners you believed in!" They'll call them, but no one will answer. They'll see the punishment and wish, "If only we had been guided."
65. On that Day, Allah will call them again and say, "How did you answer My messengers?"
66. But on that Day, all the news will be hidden from them, so they won't know what to say. They won't ask each other.
67. But whoever turns back to Allah, believes, and does good things, they might be among those who succeed.
68. Your Lord creates whatever He wants, and He chooses; they do not have the choice. Allah is perfect and far above the partners they imagine.
69. Your Lord knows everything hidden inside their hearts and everything they show openly.
70. He is Allah. There is no god except Him. All praise belongs to Him in this life and in the Hereafter. He makes all decisions, and you'll all return to Him.
71. Say, "Think about this: If Allah made the night last forever until the Day of Judgment, what god other than Allah could bring you light? Don't you listen?"
72. Say, "Think about this: If Allah made the day last forever until the Day of Judgment, what god other than Allah could bring you night to rest in? Don't you see?"
73. Because of His kindness, He made night and day for you — so you can rest at night, look for His gifts during the day, and maybe you'll be thankful.
74. On that Day, Allah will call them again and say, "Where are those partners you used to imagine?"
75. We'll bring a witness from every group and say, "Show your proof!" Then they'll know that the truth belongs to Allah, and all the lies they made up will be gone.
76. Qarun was from Moses' people, but he treated them badly. We gave him so many treasures that even strong men had trouble carrying the keys. His people said to him, "Don't show off — Allah doesn't like people who show off."
77. "Use what Allah gave you to earn a home in the Hereafter, but don't forget your share of good things in this world. Be kind, just as Allah has been kind to you. And don't cause trouble on earth — Allah doesn't like troublemakers."
78. Qarun said, "I got all this because I'm smart." Didn't he know that Allah had destroyed people before him who were stronger and richer? People who do wrong won't be asked about their sins.
79. Qarun came out to his people, showing off his riches. Those who wanted worldly things said, "We wish we had what Qarun has! He's so lucky!"
80. But those who had knowledge said, "Be careful! Allah's reward is better for those who believe and do good things. Only patient people will get that reward."
81. Then We made the earth swallow Qarun and his house. He had no one to help him against Allah, and he couldn't save himself.
82. The next morning, the people who had wished to be like Qarun said, "Now we understand! Allah gives plenty to whoever He wants, and He gives less to whoever He wants. If Allah hadn't been kind to us, the earth would have swallowed us too. Now we see that those who don't believe will never succeed."
83. That home in the Hereafter is for people who don't want to be proud or cause trouble on earth. The happy ending is for those who are careful to obey Allah.
84. Whoever does something good will get something even better. But whoever does something bad will only get what they deserve for what they've done.
85. The One Who gave you the Quran will surely bring you back home. Say, "My Lord knows best who follows the right way and who is clearly lost."
86. You never expected the Book to come to you — it was a kindness from your Lord. So never help those who don't believe.
87. Don't let anyone stop you from following Allah's verses after they've been given to you. Invite people to your Lord, and never be one of those who worship others besides Allah.
88. Never pray to another god along with Allah. There is no god except Him. Everything will disappear, except Allah Himself. He decides everything, and you'll all return to Him.
