In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Alif. Lam. Ra. This is a Book that We sent to you, so you can lead people out of darkness into the light, with their Lord's permission — to the path of Allah, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy.
2. Allah, Who owns everything in the heavens and everything on earth. And how terrible it will be for those who disbelieve — they'll have a painful punishment!
3. Those who love this life more than the Hereafter, who stop others from following Allah's path, and who want to make it crooked — they're far away from the right way.
4. We sent every messenger speaking the language of his own people, so he could clearly explain to them. Then Allah guides whoever He wants, and He lets whoever He wants go astray. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
5. We sent Moses with Our signs, saying, "Lead your people out of darkness into the light, and remind them of Allah's special days." In this, there are lessons for everyone who is patient and thankful.
6. Moses said to his people, "Remember Allah's blessing on you, when He saved you from Pharaoh's people. They were hurting you terribly, killing your sons, and letting your daughters live. That was a very hard test from your Lord."
7. And remember when your Lord announced, "If you're thankful, I'll give you even more. But if you're ungrateful, My punishment is very strong."
8. Moses said, "Even if you and everyone on earth disbelieve, Allah doesn't need anyone — He is Praiseworthy."
9. Haven't you heard about the people who lived before you — the people of Noah, Aad, Thamud, and those who came after them? Only Allah knows them all. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they covered their mouths with their hands and said, "We don't believe in what you've brought. We're really unsure about what you're asking us to do."
10. Their messengers said, "How can you doubt Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth? He's calling you, so He can forgive some of your sins, and let you live until a set time." They answered, "You're just humans like us! You only want to stop us from worshiping what our fathers worshiped. Bring us clear proof!"
11. Their messengers replied, "Yes, we're humans just like you. But Allah gives His blessings to whichever of His servants He chooses. We can't bring you proof unless Allah allows it. And believers should trust in Allah."
12. "Why shouldn't we trust in Allah, when He has guided us to the right paths? We'll be patient, even if you hurt us. Those who trust should always trust in Allah."
13. The disbelievers said to their messengers, "We will surely make you leave our land, or you must come back to our way." But their Lord told the messengers, "We will surely destroy those who do wrong."
14. "And We will surely let you live in the land after them." This promise is for those who respect Me and fear My warning.
15. They asked Allah for help, but every stubborn bully failed.
16. Behind him is Hellfire, and he'll be given filthy water to drink.
17. He will try to swallow it, but he can hardly swallow it. Death will come to him from every side, but he won't die. And behind him is a severe punishment.
18. Those who disbelieve in their Lord — their deeds are like ashes blown away by a strong wind on a stormy day. They can't keep anything they've earned. That's being truly lost.
19. Don't you see that Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wants, He can remove you and bring new people instead.
20. And that's not hard for Allah at all.
21. They will all stand before Allah. Then the weak ones will say to the proud ones, "We followed you. Can you protect us from Allah's punishment at all?" The proud ones will say, "If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It doesn't matter now whether we are patient or not — there's no escape for us."
22. And Satan will say when everything is decided, "Allah promised you the true promise, and I promised you too — but I broke my promise. I had no power over you. I only called you, and you listened to me. So don't blame me — blame yourselves. I can't help you now, and you can't help me. I reject the way you made me Allah's partner before." Those who do wrong will have a painful punishment.
23. But those who believe and do good things will enter beautiful gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. They'll stay there forever, with their Lord's permission. Their greeting there will be "Peace!"
24. Don't you see how Allah gives an example? A good word is like a good tree — its root is firm, and its branches reach high into the sky.
25. It gives fruit all the time, by its Lord's permission. Allah gives examples to people, so they might remember.
26. And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree — pulled out from the ground, with no roots to hold it steady.
27. Allah keeps the believers steady with firm words in this life and in the Hereafter. But Allah lets those who do wrong lose their way. And Allah does whatever He wants.
28. Haven't you seen those who traded Allah's blessings for disbelief, and led their people to a place of ruin?
29. It's Hellfire — they'll enter it, and it's a terrible place to stay.
30. They made others equal to Allah, to lead people away from His path. Say, "Enjoy yourselves now, but your final home will be the Fire."
31. Tell My servants who believe to pray regularly, and to give secretly and openly from what We gave them, before a day comes when there will be no buying or friendship.
32. Allah created the skies and the earth. He sent down rain from the sky, making fruits grow as food for you. He made ships sail on the sea by His command, and He made rivers flow for you.
33. He made the sun and the moon always moving for you, and He made the night and the day useful for you.
34. He gave you some of everything you asked for. If you tried to count Allah's blessings, you could never count them all. But humans are often unfair and ungrateful.
35. Remember when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city safe, and keep me and my children away from worshiping statues.
36. My Lord, they've led many people away from You. Whoever follows me belongs with me, and whoever disobeys me — You are forgiving and kind."
37. "Our Lord, I've settled some of my family in a valley without plants, near Your Sacred House, so they can pray regularly. Please make people's hearts love them, and give them fruits to eat, so they might be thankful.
38. Our Lord, You know everything we hide and everything we show. Nothing on earth or in the sky is hidden from Allah.
39. All praise belongs to Allah, Who gave me Ishmael and Isaac even though I was old. My Lord hears every prayer.
40. My Lord, help me and my children pray regularly. Our Lord, please accept my prayer.
41. Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and all the believers on the Day when everyone will be judged."
42. Don't think that Allah doesn't notice what unfair people do. He's just giving them time until a Day when eyes will stare wide open.
43. They'll hurry forward, heads lifted up, eyes unable to blink, and their hearts will feel empty.
44. Warn people about the Day when punishment comes. Those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, please give us a little more time! We'll answer Your call and follow the messengers!" But didn't you promise before that you'd never disappear?
45. You lived in the homes of people who hurt themselves, and you clearly saw what We did to them. We gave you clear examples.
46. They made their secret plans, but Allah knew all about their plans — even if their plans were strong enough to remove mountains.
47. Never think that Allah will break His promise to His messengers. Allah is powerful and fair when He punishes.
48. On that Day, the earth will be changed into a different earth, and the skies will change too. Everyone will stand in front of Allah, the One, the Powerful.
49. On that Day, you'll see the criminals tied together in chains.
50. Their clothes will be made of sticky tar, and fire will cover their faces.
51. Allah will repay each person for what they've done. Allah is quick to judge.
52. This is a clear message for all people, so they can be warned by it, know that He is the One and Only God, and so that thoughtful people will remember.
