In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.
1. Alif. Lam. Ra. This is a Book whose verses are made perfect and explained clearly by the One Who is wise and knows everything.
2. Worship no one except Allah. I'm sent by Him to warn you and to give you good news.
3. Ask your Lord to forgive you, then turn to Him. He'll let you enjoy a good life until a certain time, and He'll reward everyone who does good. But if you turn away, I'm afraid you'll face punishment on a big day.
4. You'll all return to Allah, and He has power over everything.
5. They try to hide what's in their hearts from Him. But even when they cover themselves with their clothes, He knows everything they hide and everything they show. He knows exactly what's in everyone's heart.
6. There's no creature on earth whose food isn't provided by Allah. He knows where each one lives and where each one rests. Everything is clearly written in a book.
7. He's the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and His throne was over water. He created you to test who among you does the best deeds. But if you say, "You'll come back to life after you die," those who don't believe will say, "This is clearly just magic."
8. And if We delay their punishment for a short time, they'll say, "What's holding it back?" But when it finally comes, nothing can stop it, and they'll be surrounded by the punishment they used to laugh at.
9. If We let a human being taste kindness from Us, then take it away, he becomes hopeless and ungrateful.
10. But if We let him taste happiness after he's been hurt, he'll say, "All my troubles are gone!" Then he becomes proud and boastful.
11. Except for those who are patient and do good deeds — they'll have forgiveness and a big reward.
12. Maybe you feel like leaving out some of what's revealed to you, and your heart feels tight, because they say, "Why wasn't a treasure sent down to him, or why didn't an angel come with him?" You're only a warner, and Allah takes care of everything.
13. Or do they say, "He made it up"? Say, "Then bring ten chapters like it, made up, and call anyone you can besides Allah, if you're telling the truth."
14. But if they don't answer you, then know that this Book was sent down with Allah's knowledge, and that there's no god except Him. So, will you obey Him?
15. Those who want this life and its beautiful things, We'll give them the full reward for their actions here, and nothing will be taken away from them.
16. But in the Hereafter, they'll have nothing except the Fire. Everything they did here will be lost, and all their actions will become useless.
17. Can these people be the same as someone who clearly follows guidance from his Lord, with a witness from Him? And before it, the Book of Moses came as a guide and mercy. Those people believe in it. But whoever from the other groups doesn't believe in it, the Fire is where they will go. So don't have any doubts about it. It is the truth from your Lord, but most people don't believe.
18. Who could be more unfair than someone who makes up lies about Allah? Those people will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, "These are the ones who lied about their Lord." Allah's curse is on those who do wrong.
19. Those who stop others from following Allah's path, try to make it crooked, and don't believe in the Hereafter.
20. They can't escape Allah on earth, and they have no protectors besides Allah. Their punishment will be doubled. They couldn't listen, and they couldn't see.
21. Those are the ones who lost themselves, and everything they made up will disappear from them.
22. Without a doubt, they'll be the biggest losers in the Hereafter.
23. But those who believe, do good things, and humble themselves before their Lord — they'll be the people of Paradise, and they'll stay there forever.
24. These two groups are like a blind and deaf person, compared to someone who can see and hear. Can they ever be the same? Won't you think about this?
25. We sent Noah to his people. He said, "I'm a clear warner for you."
26. "Don't worship anyone except Allah. I'm afraid for you of the punishment of a painful day."
27. But the leaders who disbelieved from his people said, "We see you're just a human like us. And we see only the lowest among us following you, without much thought. We don't see that you're better than us. Actually, we think you're lying."
28. Noah said, "My people, think about this: What if I have clear proof from my Lord, and He gave me kindness from Himself, but you can't see it? Should we force you to accept it, even though you don't like it?"
29. "My people, I'm not asking you for any money. My reward comes only from Allah. And I won't send away those who believe. They'll meet their Lord. But I see you're acting like people who don't understand."
30. "My people, who would protect me from Allah if I sent them away? Won't you think carefully?"
31. "I don't say I have Allah's treasures. I don't know hidden things. I don't say I'm an angel. And I won't say that Allah won't give good things to those you look down on. Allah knows best what's in their hearts. If I said that, I'd be doing wrong."
32. They said, "Noah, you've argued with us too much. So bring us the punishment you're promising, if you're telling the truth."
33. Noah said, "Only Allah will bring it to you, if He wants. And you can't escape."
34. "My advice won't help you, even if I really want to help you, if Allah wants to let you go the wrong way. He's your Lord, and you'll return to Him."
35. Or do they say, "He made it up"? Say, "If I made it up, then I'm responsible for my wrongdoing. But I'm innocent of the wrong things you're doing."
36. Allah told Noah, "No one else from your people will believe, except those who already believe. So don't be sad about what they're doing."
37. "Build the ship with Our care and guidance. And don't ask Me about those who did wrong — they will surely drown."
38. Noah started building the ship. Whenever some people passed by, they laughed at him. Noah said, "If you laugh at us now, we'll laugh at you later, just like you're laughing."
39. "Soon, you'll see who will get a punishment that makes them ashamed, and who will get a permanent punishment."
40. When Our command came, and water burst out from the oven, We said, "Take onto the ship two of every kind of animal, your family — except those who are already decided — and everyone who believes." But only a few people believed with him.
41. Noah said, "Get on the ship! In Allah's name it will sail, and in Allah's name it will stop. My Lord is forgiving and kind."
42. The ship sailed with them through waves as big as mountains. Noah called out to his son, who was standing far away, "My dear son, come on board with us! Don't stay with those who don't believe!"
43. His son said, "I'll climb up a mountain to keep me safe from the water." Noah said, "Today, nothing can protect anyone from Allah's command, except those He shows kindness to." Then a huge wave came between them, and Noah's son drowned.
44. Then Allah said, "Earth, swallow up your water! Sky, stop raining!" The water went down, and everything was finished. The ship rested on Mount Judi. And it was said, "The wrongdoers are gone forever."
45. Noah called out to his Lord, "My Lord, my son was part of my family, and Your promise is always true. You are the wisest judge."
46. Allah said, "Noah, he's not part of your family, because he did something wrong. Don't ask Me about things you don't understand. I'm teaching you, so you won't be one of those who don't know."
47. Noah said, "My Lord, I ask You to protect me from asking about things I don't understand. If You don't forgive me and show me kindness, I'll be one of the losers."
48. Allah said, "Noah, come down from the ship safely, with blessings from Us for you and for the people who are with you. Later, there will be other people who will enjoy life for a while, but then they'll get a painful punishment from Us."
49. These are stories about hidden things that We tell you. You and your people didn't know them before this. So be patient. The good ending is for those who listen to Allah.
50. And to the people of Aad, We sent their brother Hud. He said, "My people, worship Allah. You have no god except Him. You're only making things up."
51. "My people, I'm not asking you for any reward. My reward comes only from the One Who created me. Won't you understand?"
52. "My people, ask your Lord to forgive you, then turn back to Him. He'll send down plenty of rain for you, and He'll make you even stronger than you already are. Don't turn away and do bad things."
53. They said, "Hud, you haven't brought us any clear proof. We're not going to leave our gods just because you say so, and we don't believe you."
54. "We think some of our gods have harmed you," they said. Hud replied, "Allah is my witness, and you be witnesses too, that I have nothing to do with the gods you worship,".
55. "Besides Him. So, all of you, plan whatever you want against me, and don't wait."
56. "I trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There's no living creature that He doesn't control. My Lord is on a straight path."
57. "If you turn away, I've already given you the message I was sent with. My Lord will replace you with other people, and you can't harm Him at all. My Lord carefully watches over everything."
58. When Our command came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, because of Our kindness. We saved them from a terrible punishment.
59. Those were the people of Aad. They rejected the signs of their Lord, disobeyed His messengers, and followed the orders of every stubborn bully.
60. They were followed by a curse in this world, and they'll be cursed on the Day of Judgment too. The people of Aad disbelieved in their Lord. So, away with Aad, the people of Hud!
61. And to the people of Thamud, We sent their brother Salih. He said, "My people, worship Allah. You have no other god but Him. He created you from the earth, and let you live and build on it. So ask Him to forgive you, then turn back to Him. My Lord is near, and He answers prayers."
62. They said, "Salih, we used to have great hopes in you before this. Are you telling us not to worship what our fathers worshiped? We're really unsure and uneasy about what you're calling us to."
63. Salih said, "My people, think about this: if I have clear proof from my Lord, and He has given me kindness from Himself, who will help me against Allah if I disobey Him? You only make things worse for me."
64. "My people, this camel is a sign from Allah for you. Let her eat freely on Allah's land, and don't hurt her, or else a punishment will soon come to you."
65. But they harmed the camel. So Salih said, "Enjoy your homes for three more days. This promise will surely come true."
66. When Our command came, We saved Salih and those who believed with him, because of Our kindness. We saved them from the shame of that day. Your Lord is strong and mighty.
67. A loud, terrible sound took hold of those who did wrong, and they fell down in their homes, unable to move.
68. It was as if they had never lived there. Surely, the people of Thamud did not believe in their Lord. So, away with Thamud!
69. Our messengers came to Abraham with good news. They said, "Peace!" He replied, "Peace!" Then he quickly brought them a roasted calf.
70. But when he saw their hands didn't reach for the food, he felt uneasy about them, and became a little scared. They said, "Don't be afraid. We were sent to Lot's people."
71. Abraham's wife was standing nearby, and she laughed. So We gave her the good news of Isaac, and after Isaac, Jacob.
72. She said, "Oh my! How can I have a baby when I'm an old woman, and my husband is an old man? This is really surprising!"
73. They said, "Are you surprised by what Allah can do? Allah's kindness and blessings are on you, people of the house. He is always praised and wonderful."
74. When Abraham's fear went away and he heard the good news, he began to argue with Us about Lot's people.
75. Abraham was patient, tender-hearted, and always turned to Allah.
76. "Abraham, stop asking about this. Your Lord's command has come, and a punishment is coming to them that can't be stopped."
77. When Our messengers came to Lot, he felt worried and upset. He said, "This is a very hard day."
78. Lot's people rushed toward him, and they had done bad things before. Lot said, "My people, here are my daughters — they are purer for you. Respect Allah, and don't embarrass me in front of my guests. Isn't there even one wise person among you?"
79. They said, "You know we don't want your daughters. You know exactly what we want."
80. Lot said, "If only I had the strength to stop you, or someone strong to help me!"
81. The messengers said, "Lot, we are messengers from your Lord. They can't hurt you. Leave with your family during the night, and don't let anyone look back — except your wife. She will be struck by what strikes them. Their punishment will come in the morning. Isn't the morning very close?"
82. When Our command came, We turned their town upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay on them, falling one after another.
83. Each stone was marked by your Lord. And this punishment isn't far from those who do wrong.
84. And to the people of Midian, We sent their brother Shuayb. He said, "My people, worship Allah. You have no other god but Him. Don't cheat when you measure or weigh things. I see you're doing well now, but I'm worried you'll face punishment on a day that surrounds everyone."
85. "My people, always measure and weigh things fairly. Don't take away people's things unfairly, and don't go around making trouble or ruining things on earth."
86. "What Allah leaves for you is better, if you believe. I'm not in charge of watching over you."
87. They said, "Shuayb, does your prayer tell you we should stop worshiping what our fathers worshiped, or that we can't do whatever we want with our own money? You must be very patient and wise!"
88. Shuayb said, "My people, think about this: What if I have clear proof from my Lord, and He has given me good things? I don't want to do the things I'm telling you not to do. I only want to make things better as much as I can. My success comes only from Allah. I trust Him, and I turn to Him."
89. "My people, don't let your disagreement with me cause you to suffer the same punishment that came to Noah's people, or Hud's people, or Salih's people. And Lot's people aren't far from you."
90. "Ask your Lord to forgive you, then turn back to Him. My Lord is kind and loving."
91. They said, "Shuayb, we don't understand much of what you're saying. We see you're weak among us. If it weren't for your family, we would have thrown stones at you. You're not important to us."
92. Shuayb said, "My people, is my family more important to you than Allah? You've turned your backs on Him. My Lord surrounds everything you do."
93. "My people, do whatever you want, and I'll do what I must. Soon you'll see who will get a punishment that embarrasses him, and who is lying. Wait and watch — I'm watching with you."
94. When Our command came, We saved Shuayb and those who believed with him, because of Our kindness. But a loud blast took hold of those who did wrong, and they fell down dead in their homes.
95. It was as if they had never lived there. So, away with Midian, just like Thamud was taken away!
96. And We sent Moses with Our clear signs and strong proof.
97. To Pharaoh and his leaders. But they followed Pharaoh's orders, and Pharaoh's orders weren't good.
98. On the Day of Judgment, Pharaoh will lead his people, bringing them into the Fire. What a terrible place to enter!
99. They were followed by a curse in this life, and they'll be cursed again on the Day of Judgment. What a terrible thing to receive!
100. These are stories about towns that We tell you — some are still standing, and some have been destroyed.
101. We didn't treat them unfairly, but they treated themselves unfairly. When your Lord's command came, the gods they prayed to instead of Allah couldn't help them at all. They only made things worse for them.
102. That's how your Lord punishes towns when they do wrong. His punishment is very painful and very strong.
103. In this, there's a lesson for anyone who fears the punishment of the Hereafter. That's the Day when all people will be gathered together, and everyone will see it happen.
104. We're only delaying it for a set time.
105. On that Day, no one will speak without His permission. Some people will be sad, and some will be happy.
106. Those who are sad will be in the Fire. They will cry and groan there.
107. They'll stay there as long as the skies and the earth last, unless your Lord wills otherwise. Your Lord always does what He wants.
108. But those who are happy will be in Paradise. They'll stay there as long as the skies and the earth last, unless your Lord wills otherwise. This is a gift that will never end.
109. So don't have any doubts about what these people worship. They only worship what their parents worshiped before. And We'll surely give them their full share without leaving anything out.
110. We gave Moses the Book, but people disagreed about it. If your Lord hadn't already decided to wait, He would've judged between them. They're very unsure and confused about it.
111. Your Lord will surely give everyone exactly what they deserve for their actions. He knows everything they do.
112. So stay on the right path, just as you've been told, along with everyone who turns back to Allah with you. Don't cross the limits. He sees everything you do.
113. Don't lean toward those who do wrong, or the Fire will touch you. You won't have any protectors besides Allah, and then you won't be helped.
114. Pray regularly at both ends of the day, and during parts of the night. Good actions erase bad actions. This is a reminder for those who remember.
115. Be patient, because Allah never wastes the reward of those who do good.
116. Why weren't there more good people in the past, who tried to stop people from doing wrong things on earth? Only a few did, and We saved them. But those who did wrong followed their own pleasures, and they became guilty.
117. Your Lord would never unfairly destroy towns, if the people were trying to make things right.
118. If your Lord wanted, He could've made all people one group. But they'll always keep disagreeing.
119. Except those your Lord shows mercy to — and that's why He created them. Your Lord's word will come true: "I will fill Hellfire with jinn and people, all together."
120. We tell you all these stories about the messengers, to make your heart strong. In these stories, the truth has come to you, along with advice and reminders for those who believe.
121. Say to those who don't believe, "Keep doing things your way. We'll keep doing things our way."
122. "And wait — we're waiting too."
123. Everything hidden in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Every decision returns to Him. So worship Him, and trust Him. Your Lord knows everything you do.
