In the name of Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Caring.

1. Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book.

2. Is it surprising to people that We sent a message to a man from among them? We told him, "Warn the people, and give good news to those who believe, that they'll have a true reward with their Lord." But those who disbelieve say, "This man is clearly a magician."

3. Your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then He rose above His throne. He takes care of everything. No one can speak for others without His permission. This is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Won't you remember?

4. Everyone will return to Him. Allah's promise is true. He starts creation, then He brings it back again, so He can fairly reward those who believe and do good things. But those who disbelieve will have a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment, because they didn't believe.

5. He made the sun shine brightly and the moon glow gently, and He set the moon's path in stages, so you can count the years and keep track of time. Allah created all this for a true purpose. He explains His signs clearly for people who understand.

6. In the changing of night and day, and in everything Allah created in the heavens and the earth, there are clear signs for people who are careful to obey Allah.

7. Those who don't hope to meet Us, who are happy with this life and feel comfortable with it, and who don't pay attention to Our signs.

8. Their home will be the Fire, because of what they used to do.

9. But those who believe and do good things, their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Rivers will flow beneath them in beautiful gardens.

10. There, their prayer will be, "Glory to You, Allah!" Their greeting will be, "Peace!" And their last words will be, "All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of everyone and everything."

11. If Allah hurried to give people the bad things they ask for, just as they hurry to ask for good things, their lives would quickly end. But We leave those who don't hope to meet Us wandering blindly in their mistakes.

12. When trouble touches a human being, he calls out to Us, lying down, sitting, or standing. But when We take away his trouble, he goes on as if he never called Us for help. This is how the actions of those who waste their lives seem good to them.

13. We destroyed many groups of people before you when they did wrong. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they wouldn't believe. This is how We punish people who do wrong.

14. Then We made you leaders on the earth after them, to see how you would behave.

15. When Our clear verses are read to them, those who don't hope to meet Us say, "Bring us a different Quran, or change it." Say, "I can't change it by myself. I only follow what Allah sends to me. I'm afraid that if I disobey my Lord, I'll face the punishment of a great day."

16. Say, "If Allah wanted, I wouldn't have read it to you, and He wouldn't have let you know about it. I've lived among you for a long time before this. Don't you understand?"

17. Who could be more unfair than someone who makes up lies about Allah or says His verses aren't true? The criminals will never succeed.

18. They worship things besides Allah that can't harm them or help them, and they say, "These are the ones who ask Allah to help us." Say, "Are you telling Allah something He doesn't know in the heavens or on the earth?" He is far above the things they worship along with Him.

19. All people were once one group, but then they started disagreeing. If Allah hadn't already decided to wait, He would have judged between them about what they argued over.

20. They say, "Why hasn't a miracle come down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Only Allah knows hidden things. So wait — I'm waiting along with you."

21. When We let people feel kindness after they've been hurt, they start planning tricks against Our verses. Say, "Allah plans faster." Our messengers write down everything you plan.

22. He is the One Who helps you travel on land and sea. When you're sailing on ships and a nice wind blows, you're happy about it. But suddenly, a strong wind comes, and waves come at them from every side. They think they're trapped. Then they pray to Allah, believing only in Him, saying, "If You save us from this, we'll be thankful."

23. But when He saves them, they go back to doing wrong things on earth. People, your wrong actions only hurt yourselves. You enjoy this life for a short time, then you'll come back to Us, and We'll tell you everything you did.

24. Life in this world is like rain We send down from the sky. Plants grow from it, giving food for people and animals. When the earth becomes beautiful and decorated, and its people think they have control over it, Our command comes suddenly, by night or day. Then We make it empty, as if nothing was there yesterday. This is how We explain Our verses for people who think carefully.

25. Allah invites everyone to the Home of Peace, and He guides whoever He wants to a straight path.

26. Those who do good will get the best reward, and even more. Their faces won't be covered with darkness or shame. They will live in Paradise, forever.

27. But those who do bad things will get exactly what they deserve. Shame will cover them, and no one will protect them from Allah. Their faces will look as dark as pieces of the night. They will be in the Fire forever.

28. On the day when We gather everyone together, We'll say to those who worshiped others besides Allah, "Stay where you are — you and those you worshiped." Then We'll separate them, and the ones they worshiped will say, "You didn't really worship us."

29. "Allah is enough as a witness between us and you. We didn't even know you were worshiping us."

30. On that day, everyone will clearly see what they've done before. They'll be brought back to Allah, their true Lord, and everything they made up will disappear.

31. Say, "Who gives you everything you need from the sky and the earth? Who controls your hearing and sight? Who brings the living from the dead, and the dead from the living? Who takes care of everything?" They'll say, "Allah." Then say, "So won't you be careful to obey Him?"

32. That's Allah, your true Lord. After the truth, what's left except getting lost? So how can you turn away?

33. That's how your Lord's word came true about those who disobeyed — they won't believe.

34. Say, "Can any of those you worship besides Allah start creation, and then bring it back?" Say, "Allah creates and brings things back to life. So how can you be tricked?"

35. Say, "Can any of those you worship besides Allah guide you to the truth?" Say, "Allah guides to the truth. Who should you follow — the One Who guides to the truth, or someone who can't guide anyone unless he is guided himself? What's wrong with you? How do you decide?"

36. Most of them only follow guesses. But guessing doesn't help at all against the truth. Allah knows everything they do.

37. This Quran couldn't have been made up by anyone besides Allah. It proves the truth of what came before it, and it explains everything clearly. There's no doubt it's from the Lord of everyone and everything.

38. Or do they say, "He made it up"? Say, "Then bring one chapter like it, and call anyone you can besides Allah, if you're telling the truth."

39. But they call it a lie, because they don't understand it yet, and its meaning hasn't come true for them. People before them also called it a lie. So look what happened to those who did wrong.

40. Some of them believe in it, and some don't. Your Lord knows best who the corruptors are.

41. If they say you're not telling the truth, say, "I have my actions, and you have yours. You're not responsible for what I do, and I'm not responsible for what you do."

42. Some of them listen to you, but can you make deaf people hear, especially if they don't understand?

43. Some of them look at you, but can you guide blind people, especially if they can't see?

44. Allah never treats people unfairly, but people treat themselves unfairly.

45. On the day He gathers them, it'll feel like they stayed only an hour of the day. They'll recognize each other. Those who didn't believe they'd meet Allah have truly lost, and they weren't guided.

46. Whether We show you some of what We promised them, or We take you back to Us first, they'll all return to Us. Then Allah sees everything they do.

47. Every group of people had a messenger. When their messenger came, everything was decided fairly between them, and no one was treated unfairly.

48. They ask, "When will this promise happen, if you're telling the truth?"

49. Say, "I can't control any harm or benefit for myself, except what Allah wants. Every group of people has a set time. When their time comes, they can't delay it even by an hour, and they can't make it come sooner."

50. Say, "Think about this: if His punishment comes to you suddenly, at night or during the day, why would those who did wrong want to hurry it?"

51. Will you believe in it only after it happens? Now? But before, you wanted it to hurry up!

52. Then it'll be said to those who did wrong, "Taste the punishment that lasts forever. You're only getting what you earned."

53. They ask you, "Is this really true?" Say, "Yes, by my Lord, it's true, and you can't escape it."

54. If every person who did wrong had everything on earth, they'd try to give it all away to save themselves. They'll hide their regret when they see the punishment. Everything will be decided fairly between them, and no one will be treated unfairly.

55. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Allah's promise is true, but most of them don't know.

56. He gives life, and He causes death, and you'll all return to Him.

57. People, a lesson has come to you from your Lord. It heals what's in your hearts, and it's guidance and kindness for those who believe.

58. Say, "Because of Allah's kindness and mercy, let them be happy. That's better than all the things they gather."

59. Say, "Think about the food and good things Allah has given you. But you decided on your own, what is allowed, and what is not allowed." Say, "Did Allah give you permission, or are you making things up about Allah?"

60. What do those who make up lies about Allah think will happen on the Day of Judgment? Allah is very Kind to people, but most of them aren't thankful.

61. Whatever you're busy doing, whatever part of the Quran you're reading, and whatever actions you're doing, We're watching you when you're doing it. Nothing — not even something as tiny as a speck of dust on earth or in the sky, or anything smaller or bigger — is hidden from your Lord. It's all clearly written in a Book.

62. Truly, Allah's friends won't be afraid, and they won't be sad.

63. They're the ones who believed and were careful to obey Allah.

64. They'll have good news in this life and in the Hereafter. Allah's promises never change. That's the greatest success.

65. Don't let their words make you sad. All power belongs to Allah. He hears everything and knows everything.

66. Truly, everyone in the skies and on earth belongs to Allah. Those who worship others besides Allah aren't really following partners — they're just guessing and making things up.

67. He's the One Who made the night for you, so you can rest, and the day bright, so you can see. These are signs for people who listen carefully.

68. They said, "Allah has a child." Glory to Him! He doesn't need anyone. Everything in the skies and on earth belongs to Him. You have no proof for this. Are you saying things about Allah that you don't know?

69. Say, "Those who make up lies about Allah will not succeed."

70. They'll enjoy things in this world for a short time. Then they'll come back to Us, and We'll make them taste a painful punishment, because they didn't believe.

71. Tell them the story of Noah. He said to his people, "My people, if it's too hard for you that I'm here reminding you of Allah's signs, then I trust Allah completely. So decide clearly what you want to do, together with those you worship besides Allah. Don't let your decision be confusing or hidden. Then do whatever you want to me, and don't wait."

72. "But if you turn away, remember I didn't ask you for any reward. My reward comes only from Allah, and I've been told to be one of those who obey Him."

73. But they called him a liar. So We saved him and those who were with him in the boat, and We made them the ones who lived on afterward. And We drowned those who didn't believe Our signs. Now look carefully at what happened to those who were warned.

74. Then, after Noah, We sent other messengers to their people. They came with clear proofs, but the people wouldn't believe in what they had already rejected before. That's how We seal the hearts of those who keep doing wrong.

75. Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his leaders with Our signs. But they acted proudly and were people who did bad things.

76. When the truth came to them from Us, they said, "This is clearly magic!"

77. Moses said, "Do you call the truth magic when it comes to you? Is this magic? Magicians never succeed."

78. They said, "Did you come to turn us away from what we found our parents doing, so you two can be the greatest in the land? We won't believe you!"

79. Pharaoh said, "Bring me every skilled magician!"

80. When the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you're going to throw."

81. When they threw, Moses said, "What you've brought is magic, and Allah will make it fail. Allah doesn't let the work of corruptors succeed."

82. Allah makes the truth win with His words, even if those who do wrong don't like it.

83. Only a few young people from Moses' people believed in him, because they were afraid Pharaoh and his leaders would hurt them. Pharaoh was powerful in the land, and he went too far.

84. Moses said, "My people, if you really believe in Allah, then trust Him, if you're truly Muslims."

85. They said, "We trust Allah. Our Lord, don't let the unjust people hurt us.

86. And save us, by Your kindness, from the people who don't believe."

87. We inspired Moses and his brother, "Make homes in Egypt for your people. Make your homes places of worship, pray regularly, and give good news to the believers."

88. Moses prayed, "Our Lord, You've given Pharaoh and his leaders beautiful things and riches in this life. Our Lord, they're using these things to lead people away from Your path. Our Lord, take away their riches and make their hearts hard, so they won't believe until they see the painful punishment."

89. Allah said, "Your prayer has been answered. So stay on the right path, and don't follow the way of those who don't know."

90. We took the Children of Israel safely across the sea. Pharaoh and his soldiers chased them unfairly and angrily. But when Pharaoh was drowning, he cried out, "I believe there's no god except the One the Children of Israel believe in, and I'm one of the Muslims!"

91. Allah said, "Now? But before this, you disobeyed and were one of the corruptors!"

92. Today, We'll save your body, so you'll be a lesson for those who come after you. But many people don't pay attention to Our lessons.

93. We gave the Children of Israel a wonderful place to live, and We gave them good things to eat. But they started arguing only after knowledge came to them. On the Day of Judgment, your Lord will decide between them about what they argued over.

94. If you're unsure about what We gave you, ask those who read the Book before you. The truth has come to you from your Lord, so don't be one of those who doubt.

95. And don't be one of those who say Allah's verses aren't true, or you'll become one of the losers.

96. Those who have Allah's word against them won't believe.

97. Even if every proof comes to them, until they see the painful punishment.

98. Why didn't any town believe and benefit from believing, except Jonah's people? When they believed, We took away the punishment of shame from them in this life, and We let them enjoy life for a while.

99. If your Lord wanted, everyone on earth would believe. Will you then force people to become believers?

100. No one can believe unless Allah allows it. And He places uncleanness on those who don't understand.

101. Say, "Look at what's in the skies and on the earth." But signs and warnings won't help people who don't believe.

102. Are they waiting for days like those of the people who lived before them? Say, "Then wait — I'm waiting with you."

103. Then We save Our messengers and those who believe. It's Our promise to save the believers.

104. Say, "People, if you're unsure about my religion, I don't worship those you worship besides Allah. I worship Allah, Who takes your souls back. And I've been told to be one of the believers.

105. And to turn completely toward the true religion, and not to be one of those who worship others besides Allah.

106. And don't pray to anything besides Allah that can't help or harm you. If you do, you'll be one of those who do wrong."

107. If Allah lets something harmful touch you, no one can remove it, except Him. And if He wants something good for you, no one can stop His kindness. He gives it to whichever of His servants He wants. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Kind.

108. Say, "People, the truth has come to you from your Lord. Whoever follows the right way does it for their own good. And whoever goes the wrong way only hurts themselves. I'm not responsible for you."

109. Follow what Allah has revealed to you, and be patient until Allah decides. He is the best of all judges.
