In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. They ask you about the spoils. Say, "The spoils belong to Allah and the Messenger; so fear Allah, and set things right between yourselves, and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you are believers."

2. The believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and when His verses are recited to them, they increase them in faith, and upon their Lord they rely.

3. Those who establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them.

4. It is they who are the true believers; for them are ranks with their Lord, and forgiveness, and noble provision.

5. Just as your Lord brought you out from your home in truth, though a group among the believers were unwilling.

6. Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.

7. And when Allah promised you one of the two groups — that it would be yours — and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours; but Allah intended to establish the truth by His words, and to cut off the root of the disbelievers.

8. That He might establish the truth and nullify falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.

9. When you sought help from your Lord, and He answered you, "I will reinforce you with a thousand angels, following one another."

10. And Allah made it only as good tidings, and so that your hearts would be reassured thereby; and victory is only from Allah — indeed, Allah is Mighty, Wise.

11. When He covered you with drowsiness as security from Him, and sent down upon you water from the sky to purify you thereby, and to remove from you the defilement of Satan, and to strengthen your hearts, and to make firm your feet.

12. When your Lord inspired the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve; so strike above the necks, and strike from them every fingertip."

13. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger; and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger — indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.

14. That is yours, so taste it; and indeed, for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

15. O you who believe, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing in battle, do not turn your backs to them.

16. And whoever turns his back to them on that day — except as a maneuver for battle or to join another group — has certainly incurred wrath from Allah, and his refuge will be Hell; and wretched is such a destination.

17. And you did not kill them, but Allah killed them; and you did not throw when you threw, but Allah threw — that He might test the believers with a good test from Him. Indeed, Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

18. That is so, and that Allah weakens the plot of the disbelievers.

19. If you seek victory, then victory has already come to you. But if you desist, it is better for you. If you return, We will also return, and your forces will avail you nothing, even if numerous. Indeed, Allah is with the believers.

20. O you who believe, obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not turn away from him while you hear.

21. And do not be like those who say, "We hear," while they do not hear.

22. Indeed, the worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are the deaf and dumb who do not reason.

23. And had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear; yet even if He had made them hear, they would have turned away, while they were averse.

24. O you who believe, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life; and know that Allah comes between a man and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered.

25. And fear a trial which will not afflict only those who have wronged among you; and know that Allah is severe in punishment.

26. And remember when you were few, oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you — but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things, that you might be grateful.

27. O you who believe, do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts while you know.

28. And know that your wealth and your children are but a trial, and that Allah — with Him is a great reward.

29. O you who believe, if you are mindful of Allah, He will grant you a criterion, remove from you your misdeeds, and forgive you; and Allah is Possessor of great bounty.

30. And when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you, or kill you, or expel you — they plot, and Allah plots; and Allah is the best of plotters.

31. And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard; if we wished, we could say something like this. This is nothing but tales of the ancients."

32. And when they said, "O Allah, if this is indeed the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky, or bring upon us a painful punishment."

33. But Allah would not punish them while you are among them; nor would Allah punish them while they seek forgiveness.

34. Yet why should Allah not punish them, when they hinder others from the Sacred Mosque, and they were not its guardians? Its guardians are none but the mindful of Allah, yet most of them do not know.

35. And their prayer at the House was nothing but whistling and clapping — so taste the punishment for your disbelief.

36. Those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder from the way of Allah; they will spend it, then it will become a source of regret for them, then they will be overcome; and those who disbelieve will be gathered to Hellfire.

37. So that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good, and place the wicked one upon another, heap them all together, and place them into Hellfire; it is they who are the losers.

38. Say to those who disbelieve: if they desist, what has passed will be forgiven them; but if they return, then the precedent of the former peoples has already passed.

39. And fight them until there is no more persecution, and religion is entirely for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

40. And if they turn away, then know that Allah is your Protector — an excellent Protector and an excellent Helper.

41. And know that anything you obtain as spoils — indeed, one-fifth of it is for Allah, and for the Messenger, and for the near relatives, the orphans, the needy, and the traveler — if you truly believe in Allah and in what We sent down upon Our servant on the Day of Criterion, the day the two armies met. And Allah is powerful over all things.

42. When you were on the near side, and they were on the far side, and the caravan was below you; and if you had made an appointment, you would have differed concerning the appointment — but it was so that Allah might accomplish a matter already decreed, so that whoever perished would perish upon clear evidence, and whoever lived would live upon clear evidence; and indeed, Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

43. When Allah showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you would have lost courage and disputed concerning the matter — but Allah saved you; indeed, He is Knowing of what is within the breasts.

44. And when He showed them to you — when you met — as few in your eyes, and made you appear few in their eyes, so that Allah might accomplish a matter already decreed; and to Allah are all matters returned.

45. O you who have believed, when you encounter a force, stand firm and remember Allah much, so that you may succeed.

46. And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute, lest you lose courage and your strength depart; and be patient — surely, Allah is with the patient.

47. And do not be like those who came forth from their homes boastfully, and to be seen by people, and who hinder others from the way of Allah; and Allah encompasses what they do.

48. And when Satan made their deeds appear fair to them, and said, "No one among the people can overcome you today, and indeed, I am by your side." But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned back on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you; indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allah — and Allah is severe in punishment."

49. When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said, "Their religion has deluded these people." But whoever relies upon Allah — then surely, Allah is Mighty, Wise.

50. And if you could only see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved, striking their faces and their backs, saying, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire."

51. That is for what your own hands have put forth, and because Allah is not unjust to the servants.

52. Like the way of the people of Pharaoh and those before them — they disbelieved in the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their sins; indeed, Allah is Powerful, severe in punishment.

53. That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves; and truly, Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

54. Like the way of the people of Pharaoh and those before them — they denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh; and all of them were wrongdoers.

55. Surely, the worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are those who disbelieve, so they do not believe.

56. Those among them with whom you made a covenant, then they break their covenant every time. And they do not act in piety.

57. So if you encounter them in war, disperse by means of them those behind them, that they may take heed.

58. And if you fear betrayal from a people, cast their treaty back to them on equal terms; indeed, Allah does not love the treacherous.

59. And let not those who disbelieve think they have escaped; they cannot escape.

60. And prepare against them whatever you can of strength and of tethered horses, by which you terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides them whom you do not know — Allah knows them. And whatever you spend in the way of Allah will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged.

61. And if they incline toward peace, then incline toward it, and rely upon Allah; surely, it is He Who is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

62. And if they intend to deceive you, then surely Allah is sufficient for you; it is He Who strengthened you with His help and with the believers.

63. And brought their hearts together. Had you spent all that is on earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allah brought them together. Surely, He is Almighty, Wise.

64. O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allah and those of the believers who follow you.

65. O Prophet, urge the believers to fight. If there are among you twenty steadfast, they will overcome two hundred; and if there are among you one hundred, they will overcome one thousand of those who disbelieve, for they are a people who do not understand.

66. Now Allah has lightened your burden, knowing that there is weakness in you. So if there are among you one hundred steadfast, they will overcome two hundred; and if there are among you one thousand, they will overcome two thousand, by Allah's permission. And Allah is with the steadfast.

67. It is not for a prophet to have captives until he has thoroughly subdued in the land. You desire the gains of this world, but Allah desires the Hereafter. And Allah is Almighty, Wise.

68. Had it not been for a decree from Allah that preceded, surely a great punishment would have touched you for what you took.

69. So eat of what you have gained, lawful and good, and be mindful of Allah. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

70. O Prophet, say to those captives who are in your hands: "If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."

71. But if they intend betrayal against you, they have already betrayed Allah before, so He gave power over them. And Allah is Knowing, Wise.

72. Truly, those who believed, emigrated, and struggled with their wealth and their lives in the way of Allah, and those who gave shelter and aided — those are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate, you have no obligation of alliance toward them until they emigrate. Yet if they seek your help in religion, then upon you is the duty to help, except against a people between whom and you there is a treaty. And Allah is Seeing of what you do.

73. And those who disbelieve are allies of one another. If you do not do this, there will be persecution on earth and great corruption.

74. And those who believed, emigrated, and struggled in the way of Allah, and those who gave shelter and aided — those are the true believers. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

75. And those who believed afterward, emigrated, and struggled alongside you — they are of you. But relatives by birth are nearer to one another in the Book of Allah. Indeed, Allah has full knowledge of all things.
