In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. O you who are wrapped up.

2. Stand in prayer at night, except a little.

3. Half of it, or reduce from it a little.

4. Or add to it; and recite the Quran with measured recitation.

5. Truly, We shall cast upon you a weighty word.

6. Surely, rising at night is firmer in tread and more upright in speech.

7. Indeed, during the day you have much to attend to.

8. And remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him with complete devotion.

9. Lord of the east and the west; there is no god except Him, so take Him as a Disposer of affairs.

10. And be patient over what they say, and avoid them with a gracious avoidance.

11. And leave Me with the deniers, those of luxury, and grant them respite a little.

12. Truly, with Us are shackles and a blazing Fire.

13. And food that chokes, and a painful punishment.

14. On the Day when the earth and the mountains quake, and the mountains become a heap of shifting sand.

15. Surely, We have sent to you a Messenger, as a witness over you, just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

16. But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure.

17. Then how will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, against a Day that will make children gray-haired?

18. The heaven will break apart thereby; His promise is ever fulfilled.

19. Surely, this is a reminder; so whoever wills, let him take a way to his Lord.

20. Indeed, your Lord knows that you stand nearly two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or a third of it, and a group of those with you; and Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you will not keep count of it, so He has turned to you in forgiveness. Therefore, read what is easy of the Quran. He knows that there will be among you those who are ill, and others traveling through the land seeking the bounty of Allah, and others fighting in the way of Allah; so read what is easy from it, and establish prayer, and give charity, and lend to Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah — better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness from Allah; truly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
