In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. A questioner asked about a punishment bound to occur.

2. For the disbelievers; none can avert it.

3. From Allah, Lord of the ascending ways.

4. The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a Day whose measure is fifty thousand years.

5. So endure with beautiful patience.

6. They see it as distant.

7. But We see it as near.

8. On the Day when the sky will be like molten metal.

9. And the mountains will be like wool.

10. And no close friend will ask about his close friend.

11. Though they will be shown to each other. The guilty one will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children.

12. And his wife, and his brother.

13. And his kin who sheltered him.

14. And whoever is on earth altogether — then it could save him.

15. No! It is surely a blazing Fire.

16. Tearing away the extremities.

17. Calling whoever turned his back and turned away.

18. And amassed and hoarded.

19. Truly, the human being was created anxious.

20. When evil touches him, impatient.

21. And when good touches him, withholding.

22. Except those who pray.

23. Those who are constant in their prayer.

24. And those in whose wealth is a known right.

25. For the beggar and the deprived.

26. And those who affirm the Day of Judgment.

27. And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord.

28. Truly, the punishment of their Lord is not something to feel secure from.

29. And those who guard their chastity.

30. Except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possess, for then they are free from blame.

31. But whoever seeks beyond that — then those are the transgressors.

32. And those who are observant of their trusts and their covenant.

33. And those who stand firm in their testimonies.

34. And those who carefully maintain their prayers.

35. Those will be honored in Gardens.

36. So what is with those who disbelieve, hastening toward you.

37. From the right and from the left, in separate groups?

38. Does every one of them aspire to enter a Garden of bliss?

39. No! Truly, We created them from what they know.

40. So I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests, surely We are capable.

41. Of replacing them with better than they, and We cannot be outdone.

42. So leave them to indulge and play until they meet their Day which they are promised.

43. The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly, as though rushing toward a marked goal.

44. Their eyes humbled, humiliation covering them. That is the Day which they were promised.
