In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. O you who believe, do not take My enemy and your enemy as allies, extending affection toward them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth, expelling the Messenger and yourselves because you believe in Allah, your Lord — if you have gone forth striving in My way and seeking My pleasure. You secretly show them affection, but I know best what you conceal and what you reveal; and whoever among you does this has certainly strayed from the right path.

2. If they gain dominance over you, they will be enemies to you, and will stretch forth their hands and tongues against you with evil; and they wish that you would disbelieve.

3. Your relatives and your children will not benefit you; on the Day of Resurrection He will judge between you — and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

4. There has certainly been for you an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "We are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship besides Allah. We have rejected you, and there has appeared between us and you enmity and hatred forever, until you believe in Allah alone" — except for Abraham's saying to his father, "I will surely seek forgiveness for you, but I have no power to avail you anything from Allah." "Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have turned, and to You is the final destination.

5. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord; truly, You are the Almighty, the Wise."

6. Certainly, there has been for you in them an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day; and whoever turns away — then indeed, Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.

7. Perhaps Allah will place affection between you and those among them whom you have opposed; and Allah is Powerful, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

8. Allah does not forbid you from those who have not fought you in religion nor expelled you from your homes — that you deal kindly and justly with them; surely, Allah loves those who act justly.

9. Allah only forbids you from those who have fought you in religion, expelled you from your homes, and aided in your expulsion — that you take them as allies; and whoever takes them as allies, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

10. O you who believe, when believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them; Allah is most knowing of their faith. If you ascertain them to be believers, do not return them to the disbelievers; neither are they lawful for them, nor are they lawful for them. And give them what they have spent. There is no blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their due compensation. And do not hold onto marriage bonds with disbelieving women, but ask for what you have spent, and let them ask for what they have spent. That is the judgment of Allah; He judges between you. And Allah is Knowing, Wise.

11. And if any of your wives have gone from you to the disbelievers, and then you gain compensation, give to those whose wives have gone the equivalent of what they had spent. And fear Allah, in Whom you are believers.

12. O Prophet, when believing women come to you pledging allegiance to you — that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor will they steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor bring forth a slander they invent between their hands and feet, nor disobey you in what is right — then accept their pledge and ask forgiveness for them from Allah. Truly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

13. O you who believe, do not take as allies a people upon whom Allah has become angry; they have despaired of the Hereafter, just as the disbelievers have despaired of the inhabitants of the graves.
