In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
1. All that is in the heavens and all that is on earth glorifies Allah; and He is the Almighty, the Wise.
2. He it is Who expelled those who disbelieved among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought their fortresses would protect them from Allah; but Allah came upon them from where they did not expect, and He cast terror into their hearts. They destroyed their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers; so take heed, O you who have insight.
3. And had Allah not decreed exile for them, He would surely have punished them in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
4. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger; and whoever opposes Allah — then surely Allah is severe in punishment.
5. Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing upon their roots, it was by Allah's permission, and so that He might disgrace the defiantly disobedient.
6. And whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from them — you did not spur for it any horses or camels; but Allah gives His messengers authority over whom He wills, and Allah is powerful over all things.
7. Whatever Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns is for Allah and for the Messenger, and for the near relatives, the orphans, the needy, and the traveler, so that it may not circulate solely among the wealthy among you. And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.
8. For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their possessions, seeking bounty from Allah and His approval, and supporting Allah and His Messenger — those are the truthful.
9. And those who settled in the abode and adopted faith before them — they love those who emigrated to them, and find no desire in their hearts for what they were given, and prefer others over themselves, even though they themselves are in need. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his own soul — those are the successful.
10. And those who came after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and place no resentment in our hearts toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."
11. Have you not seen those who act hypocritically, saying to their brothers who disbelieve among the People of the Book, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will never obey anyone against you; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you"? And Allah bears witness that they are surely liars.
12. If they are expelled, they will not leave with them; and if they are fought, they will not aid them; and even if they aid them, they will surely turn their backs — then they will not be helped.
13. Indeed, you are more feared within their hearts than Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand.
14. They will not fight you all together except in fortified towns or from behind walls. Their hostility among themselves is severe; you think them united, but their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
15. Like the example of those shortly before them: they tasted the evil consequence of their affair; and for them is a painful punishment.
16. Like the example of Satan, when he said to the human being, "Disbelieve," but when he disbelieved, he said, "I am surely disassociated from you; I surely fear Allah, Lord of the worlds."
17. So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein; and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.
18. O you who believe, be mindful of Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent forth for tomorrow; and be mindful of Allah. Surely, Allah is aware of what you do.
19. And do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He caused them to forget themselves; those are the defiantly disobedient.
20. Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise; the companions of Paradise — they are the successful.
21. Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled, splitting apart from fear of Allah; and these examples We present to the people, that they may reflect.
22. He is Allah, other than Whom there is no god; Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
23. He is Allah, other than Whom there is no god — the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Guardian of Faith, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme; exalted is Allah above whatever they associate.
24. He is Allah — the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper; to Him belong the most beautiful names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him; and He is the Almighty, the Wise.
