In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. Certainly, Allah has heard the speech of the woman who disputes with you concerning her husband and complains to Allah; and Allah hears your dialogue. Surely, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

2. Those among you who pronounce zihar against their wives — they are not their mothers; their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they utter a reprehensible statement and a falsehood; yet surely, Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving.

3. And those who pronounce zihar against their wives, then retract what they have said, must free a captive before they touch one another. This is what you are admonished with; and Allah is fully aware of what you do.

4. But whoever does not find means, then fasting two consecutive months before they touch one another; and whoever is unable, then feeding sixty needy persons. This is so that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger. And these are the limits set by Allah; and for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

5. Truly, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be humbled, just as those before them were humbled. And We have certainly sent down clear verses; and for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

6. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all and inform them of what they did. Allah has enumerated it, while they have forgotten it; and Allah is Witness over all things.

7. Have you not considered that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth? There is no private conversation among three except that He is their fourth, nor among five except that He is their sixth, nor less than that nor more except that He is with them wherever they may be. Then He will inform them of what they did, on the Day of Resurrection. Truly, Allah is Knower of all things.

8. Have you not observed those who were forbidden from private conversations, yet they return to what they were forbidden, conversing secretly in sin, aggression, and disobedience to the Messenger? And when they come to you, they greet you with that by which Allah has not greeted you, and they say within themselves, "Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?" Hell is sufficient for them; they will burn in it — and wretched is the destination.

9. O you who believe, when you converse privately, do not converse in sin, aggression, and disobedience to the Messenger; but converse in righteousness and mindfulness of Allah. And fear Allah, to Whom you will be gathered.

10. Private conversation is only from Satan, to grieve those who believe; yet he cannot harm them at all except by Allah's permission. And upon Allah let the believers rely.

11. O you who believe, when it is said to you, "Make room," in gatherings, then make room; Allah will make room for you. And when it is said, "Rise," then rise; Allah will raise in degrees those among you who believe and those who have been given knowledge. And Allah is fully aware of what you do.

12. O you who believe, when you privately consult the Messenger, offer charity before your consultation. That is better for you and purer. But if you do not find means, then Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

13. Have you feared to offer charities before your private consultations? Since you did not do so, and Allah has pardoned you, then establish prayer, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah is fully aware of what you do.

14. Have you not seen those who ally themselves with a people upon whom Allah is wrathful? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear falsely while they know.

15. Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment; evil indeed is what they have been doing.

16. They have taken their oaths as a shield, thus hindering from the way of Allah; so for them is a humiliating punishment.

17. Neither their wealth nor their children will avail them at all against Allah; those are the companions of the Fire — they will abide in it eternally.

18. On the Day when Allah resurrects them all, they will swear to Him as they swear to you, and they think that they stand upon something; surely, it is they who are the liars.

19. Satan has overcome them, causing them to forget the remembrance of Allah; those are the party of Satan — surely, the party of Satan are the losers.

20. Surely, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger — those will be among the most abased.

21. Allah has decreed, "I will certainly prevail, I and My messengers." Certainly, Allah is Powerful, Almighty.

22. You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred. Those — He has inscribed faith in their hearts and strengthened them with a spirit from Him; and He will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him; those are the party of Allah — surely, the party of Allah are the successful.
