In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. O you who believe, fulfill the contracts. Lawful for you are grazing livestock, except what is recited to you, not permitting hunting while you are in the state of sanctity. Indeed, Allah ordains what He wills.

2. O you who believe, do not violate the rites of Allah, nor the sacred month, nor the sacrificial offerings, nor the garlanded animals, nor those heading toward the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and His approval. But when you have exited the state of sanctity, then you may hunt. And let not hatred of a people who barred you from the Sacred Mosque incite you to transgress. And cooperate in righteousness and mindfulness of Allah, and do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.

3. Forbidden to you are carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, the animal strangled, the animal beaten to death, the animal fallen from a height, the animal gored, and that which wild beasts have eaten — except what you properly slaughter — and that which is sacrificed upon stone altars, and that you seek decision through divining arrows. This is grave disobedience. Today those who disbelieve have despaired of your religion, so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favor upon you, and approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is compelled by severe hunger, without inclining toward sin — then indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

4. They ask you what is lawful for them. Say, "Lawful for you are good things, and what you have trained of hunting animals, teaching them from what Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is swift in reckoning."

5. Today good things are made lawful for you. The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And lawful for you are chaste women among the believers, and chaste women among those who were given the Scripture before you, provided you give them their due compensation, being chaste, neither promiscuous nor taking secret lovers. And whoever rejects faith — his deeds have become worthless, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.

6. O you who believe, when you rise for prayer, wash your faces and your hands to the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of major impurity, then purify yourselves. And if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes from relieving himself, or you have touched women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe your faces and your hands with it. Allah does not intend to place upon you any hardship, but He intends to purify you and to complete His favor upon you, that you may be grateful.

7. And remember Allah's favor upon you, and His covenant by which He bound you, when you said, "We hear and we obey." And fear Allah; surely Allah is Knowing of what is within the breasts.

8. O you who believe, be steadfast for Allah, witnesses in justice; and let not the hatred of a people cause you to swerve from justice. Be just; it is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.

9. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds: for them is forgiveness and a great reward.

10. And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs — those are the companions of Hellfire.

11. O you who believe, remember Allah's favor upon you, when a people intended to stretch out their hands against you, but He withheld their hands from you. And fear Allah; and upon Allah let the believers rely.

12. Certainly, Allah took the covenant of the Children of Israel, and We appointed among them twelve leaders; and Allah said, "I am with you. If you establish prayer, give charity, believe in My messengers, support them, and lend Allah a goodly loan, I will surely remove from you your misdeeds and surely admit you into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever among you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the straight path."

13. So, for their breaking of their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They distort words from their proper places, and have forgotten a portion of what they were reminded of. And you will continue to discover treachery among them, except for a few of them; yet pardon them and overlook. Truly, Allah loves those who do good.

14. And from those who say, "We are Christians," We took their covenant, but they forgot a portion of what they were reminded of; so We stirred among them enmity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will inform them of what they used to do.

15. O People of the Scripture, Our Messenger has come to you, making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture, and overlooking much. Certainly, there has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.

16. By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace, and brings them out from darkness into light by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.

17. Certainly, those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary," have disbelieved. Say, "Then who has any power against Allah if He wished to destroy the Messiah son of Mary, and his mother, and all those on earth altogether?" And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them; He creates whatever He wills, and Allah is powerful over all things.

18. And the Jews and the Christians say, "We are the children of Allah and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins? Rather, you are human beings from among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the final return."

19. O People of the Scripture, Our Messenger has come to you, making things clear to you after an interval without messengers, lest you say, "No bringer of good tidings nor any warner has come to us." Certainly, there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner; and Allah is powerful over all things.

20. And when Moses said to his people, "O my people, remember the favor of Allah upon you, when He placed among you prophets, and made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to anyone among the worlds."

21. "O my people, enter the sacred land which Allah has decreed for you, and do not turn back on your heels, lest you become losers."

22. They said, "O Moses, indeed within it is a mighty people; and we will never enter it until they depart from it. But if they depart from it, then surely we will enter."

23. Two men from among those who feared — upon whom Allah had bestowed favor — said, "Enter upon them through the gate; for when you have entered it, you will surely be victorious. And upon Allah rely, if you are believers."

24. They said, "O Moses, we will never enter it, ever, as long as they remain therein. So go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting right here."

25. He said, "My Lord, I have no power except over myself and my brother; so separate us from the defiantly disobedient people."

26. He said, "Then surely, it is forbidden to them for forty years; they will wander on earth. So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient people."

27. And recite to them the true story of Adam's two sons, when they both offered a sacrifice, and it was accepted from one of them, but was not accepted from the other. He said, "I will surely kill you." He said, "Allah accepts only from the righteous."

28. "If you stretch your hand toward me to kill me, I will not stretch my hand toward you to kill you; indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds."

29. "Surely, I wish for you to bear my sin and your sin, and thus become among the companions of the Fire; and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers."

30. Then his soul permitted him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers.

31. Then Allah sent a crow scratching in the earth, to show him how to conceal the nakedness of his brother. He said, "Woe to me! Am I unable to be like this crow and conceal the nakedness of my brother?" Thus he became among the remorseful.

32. Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul — unless for a soul or for corruption on earth — it is as if he had killed all humankind; and whoever saves it, it is as if he had saved all humankind. And certainly, Our messengers came to them with clear proofs; yet certainly, many of them, after that, are transgressors on earth.

33. The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive to spread corruption on earth, is only that they be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is for them disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

34. Except for those who repent before you apprehend them; so know that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

35. O you who believe, fear Allah, and seek the means of nearness to Him, and strive in His way, that you may succeed.

36. Certainly, those who disbelieve — if they had all that is on earth, and the like of it with it, to ransom themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them; and for them is a painful punishment.

37. They will wish to come forth from the Fire, but they will not come forth from it; and for them is an enduring punishment.

38. And the male thief and the female thief — cut off their hands as recompense for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

39. But whoever repents after his wrongdoing and reforms, then surely Allah will accept his repentance; indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

40. Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth? He punishes whom He wills and forgives whom He wills; and Allah is powerful over all things.

41. O Messenger, let not those who hasten into disbelief grieve you — among those who say, "We believe," with their mouths, while their hearts do not believe; and among those who are Jews. They eagerly listen to falsehood, eagerly listen to other people who have not come to you. They distort words beyond their proper places, saying, "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, beware." And whomever Allah intends to test, you will have no power to avail him anything against Allah. Those are the ones whose hearts Allah did not intend to purify; for them is disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

42. Eager listeners to falsehood, devourers of illicit gain. So if they come to you, judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them, they will not harm you at all. But if you judge, judge between them with justice; truly, Allah loves those who are just.

43. And how can they make you their judge, while they have the Torah, in which is Allah's judgment? Then they turn away after that — and those are not believers.

44. Certainly, We sent down the Torah; in it are guidance and light. By it the prophets who submitted judged for the Jews, as did the rabbis and the scholars, who were entrusted to preserve Allah's Book and were witnesses over it. So do not fear the people, but fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price. Whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down — those are the disbelievers.

45. And We prescribed for them in it: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds, retribution. But whoever forgoes it charitably, it is an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down — those are the wrongdoers.

46. And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, son of Mary, confirming what was before him of the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel — in it are guidance and light, confirming what preceded it of the Torah — and as guidance and admonition for those mindful of Allah.

47. And let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has sent down in it. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down — those are the defiantly disobedient.

48. And We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming what was before it of the Scripture, and as a guardian over it. So judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and do not follow their desires away from what has come to you of the truth. For each of you. We have made a law and a clear way. And had Allah willed, He would have made you one community, but to test you in what He has given you; so race toward good deeds. To Allah is your return all together, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

49. And judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and do not follow their desires, and beware of them lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has sent down to you. But if they turn away, then know that Allah only intends to afflict them with some of their sins; and indeed, many among the people are defiantly disobedient.

50. Is it the judgment of ignorance they seek? And who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who have certainty?

51. O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies; they are allies of one another. And whoever among you takes them as allies, then he is indeed one of them. Surely, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

52. So you see those in whose hearts is disease hastening toward them, saying, "We fear that a misfortune may strike us." But perhaps Allah will bring victory or a decree from Himself, and they will become regretful over what they concealed within themselves.

53. And those who believe will say, "Are these the ones who swore by Allah their strongest oaths that they were indeed with you?" Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become losers.

54. O you who believe, whoever among you turns back from his religion, Allah will bring forth a people whom He loves and who love Him — humble toward the believers, firm against the disbelievers, striving in the way of Allah, and not fearing the blame of any critic. That is the favor of Allah; He grants it to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

55. Your ally is only Allah, and His Messenger, and those who believe — those who establish prayer and give charity, and they bow down.

56. And whoever takes Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe as allies — then indeed, the party of Allah, they are the victorious.

57. O you who believe, do not take as allies those who take your religion as mockery and play, from among those who were given the Scripture before you and the disbelievers. And be mindful of Allah, if you are believers.

58. And when you call to prayer, they take it as mockery and play; that is because they are a people who do not reason.

59. Say, "O People of the Scripture, do you resent us except that we have believed in Allah and what was revealed to us and what was revealed before, and because most of you are defiantly disobedient?"

60. Say, "Shall I inform you of worse than that as recompense from Allah? Those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry, and made from them apes and pigs, and worshipers of false gods — those are worse in position and further astray from the right path."

61. And when they come to you, they say, "We believe," while they entered with disbelief, and they have certainly left with it. And Allah is most knowing of what they used to conceal.

62. And you see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and their consuming of illicit gain. Surely evil is what they have been doing.

63. Why do the rabbis and religious scholars not forbid them from their sinful speech and their consuming of illicit gain? Surely evil is what they have been practicing.

64. And the Jews say, "The hand of Allah is chained." Chained are their hands, and cursed are they for what they say. Rather, His hands are outstretched; He spends as He wills. And surely, what has been sent down to you from your Lord will increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. And We have cast among them enmity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. Every time they kindle a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it. And they strive on earth spreading corruption; and Allah does not love the corruptors.

65. And if the People of the Scripture had believed and been mindful of Allah, We would surely have removed from them their misdeeds and admitted them into Gardens of Bliss.

66. And if they had upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them is a moderate community; but many of them — evil is what they do.

67. O Messenger, convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

68. Say, "O People of the Scripture, you stand upon nothing until you uphold the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to you from your Lord." And surely, what has been sent down to you from your Lord will increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief; so do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

69. Indeed, those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians — whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous deeds — no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

70. Certainly, We took the covenant of the Children of Israel and sent to them messengers. Every time a messenger came to them with what their souls did not desire, a party they denied, and a party they kill.

71. And they thought there would be no trial, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah turned to them in forgiveness; then again many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.

72. Certainly, those who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary," have disbelieved; and the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Surely, whoever associates others with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise to him, and his refuge is the Fire; and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers."

73. Certainly, those who say, "Allah is the third of three," have disbelieved; yet there is no god except One God. And if they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment will surely afflict those among them who disbelieve.

74. Will they not then repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

75. The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; messengers have passed away before him. And his mother was truthful; they both used to eat food. See how We make clear to them the signs; then see how they are deluded.

76. Say, "Do you worship besides Allah that which has no power to harm or benefit you? And Allah is the Hearing, the Knowing."

77. Say, "O People of the Scripture, do not exceed limits in your religion beyond the truth, and do not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, and led many astray, and strayed from the right path."

78. Those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary; that was because they disobeyed and used to transgress.

79. They would not forbid one another from wrongdoing they committed; surely evil was what they used to do.

80. You see many of them taking as allies those who disbelieved; surely evil is what their souls have sent ahead for them — that Allah became angry with them, and in punishment they will abide eternally.

81. And had they believed in Allah and the Prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them as allies; but many of them are defiantly disobedient.

82. You will surely find the strongest of people in enmity toward those who believe to be the Jews and those who associate others with Allah; and you will surely find the nearest of them in affection toward those who believe to be those who say, "We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks, and because they are not arrogant.

83. And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we believe; so record us among the witnesses."

84. And why should we not believe in Allah and in the truth that has come to us, while we hope that our Lord will admit us among the righteous people?

85. So Allah rewarded them, for what they said, with Gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein eternally; and that is the reward of those who do good.

86. But those who disbelieve and deny Our verses — those are the companions of Hellfire.

87. O you who believe, do not forbid the good things that Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress; indeed, Allah does not love the transgressors.

88. And eat of what Allah has provided for you, lawful and good; and fear Allah, in Whom you believe.

89. Allah does not hold you accountable for unintended oaths, but He holds you accountable for what you have deliberately sworn. So its expiation is feeding ten needy people from the average of what you feed your own families, or clothing them, or freeing a captive. But whoever does not find means — then fasting for three days. That is the expiation for your oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses, that you may be grateful.

90. O you who believe, intoxicants, gambling, stone altars, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan; so avoid it, that you may succeed.

91. Satan only wants to cause between you enmity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling, and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?

92. And obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and beware; but if you turn away, then know that upon Our Messenger is only the clear conveyance.

93. There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have consumed, if they fear Allah and believe and do righteous deeds, then revere Allah and believe, then are mindful of Allah and do good; and Allah loves those who do good.

94. O you who believe, Allah will surely test you with something of the game that your hands and spears can reach, so that Allah may know who fears Him unseen; whoever transgresses after that, for him is a painful punishment.

95. O you who believe, do not kill game while you are in the state of sanctity. Whoever among you kills it intentionally, then his recompense is an equivalent from livestock to what he killed, as judged by two just persons among you, as an offering reaching the Kaaba; or an expiation: feeding needy people; or the equivalent of that in fasting, so that he may taste the consequence of his deed. Allah has pardoned what is past; but whoever repeats this, Allah will exact retribution from him — and Allah is Mighty, Owner of Retribution.

96. Permitted for you is the game of the sea and its food, as provision for you and for travelers; but forbidden to you is the game of the land as long as you remain in the state of sanctity. And fear Allah, to Whom you will be gathered.

97. Allah has made the Kaaba, the Sacred House, a means of support for the people, as well as the sacred month, the offerings, and the garlanded sacrifices; that is so you may know that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth, and that Allah is Knowing of all things.

98. Know that Allah is severe in punishment, and that Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

99. Nothing is upon the Messenger except the conveyance; and Allah knows whatever you reveal and whatever you conceal.

100. Say, "The evil and the good are not equal, even if the abundance of evil impresses you." So fear Allah, O people of understanding, that you may succeed.

101. O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if made clear to you, would distress you; but if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made clear to you. Allah has pardoned them — and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

102. A people before you asked about them, then became disbelievers because of them.

103. Allah has not legislated any Bahirah, nor Sa'ibah, nor Wasilah, nor Haam; but those who disbelieve invent falsehood against Allah, and most of them do not reason.

104. And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "Sufficient for us is what we found our fathers upon." Even though their fathers knew nothing and were not guided?

105. O you who believe, upon you is responsibility for yourselves; those who stray will not harm you if you are guided. To Allah is your return altogether; then He will inform you of what you used to do.

106. O you who believe, testimony among you, when death approaches one of you at the time of making a bequest, shall be by two just persons from among you, or two others from outside yourselves if you are traveling through the land and the calamity of death befalls you. Detain them both after the prayer, and let them swear by Allah, if you doubt: "We will not exchange it for any price, even if it concerns a near relative, nor will we conceal the testimony of Allah; surely then we would be among the sinners."

107. But if it is discovered that the two have become guilty of sin, then let two others stand in their place from among those against whom the former two had a claim, and let them swear by Allah: "Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed; surely then we would be among the wrongdoers."

108. That is more likely that they will give testimony according to its true form, or else fear that oaths may be refuted after their oaths. And fear Allah and listen; and Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.

109. On the Day when Allah gathers the messengers and says, "What response were you given?" They will say, "We have no knowledge; indeed, it is You Who are Knower of the unseen."

110. When Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother, when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so that you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you created from clay the likeness of a bird, by My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird, by My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper, by My permission; and when you brought forth the dead, by My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from you, when you came to them with clear proofs, and those who disbelieved among them said, 'This is nothing but evident magic.'"

111. And when I inspired the disciples, "Believe in Me and in My messenger," they said, "We believe; and bear witness that we are Muslims."

112. When the disciples said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table spread from heaven?" He said, "Fear Allah, if you are believers."

113. They said, "We wish to eat from it, and that our hearts may be reassured, and that we may know that you have spoken truthfully to us, and that we may be among its witnesses."

114. Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table spread from heaven, to be for us a festival — for the first of us and the last of us — and a sign from You; and provide for us, for You are the best of providers."

115. Allah said, "Indeed, I will send it down to you; but whoever among you disbelieves afterward — I will punish him with a punishment with which I have not punished anyone among all the worlds."

116. And when Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah'?" He said, "Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to say. Had I said it, You would surely have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself; truly, You alone are Knower of the unseen."

117. "I said nothing to them except what You commanded me: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me, You Yourself were the Watcher over them — and You are Witness over all things."

118. "If You punish them, indeed they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, indeed You alone are the Almighty, the Wise."

119. Allah said, "This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness; for them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him; that is the great triumph."

120. To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them; and He is powerful over all things.
