In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
1. O Prophet, fear Allah and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites; truly, Allah is ever Knowing, Wise.
2. And follow what is revealed to you from your Lord; surely, Allah is ever Aware of what you do.
3. And rely upon Allah; and sufficient is Allah as a Guardian.
4. Allah has not made for any man two hearts within his body; nor has He made your wives whom you declare unlawful your mothers; nor has He made your adopted sons your sons. That is merely your saying by your mouths; but Allah speaks the truth, and He guides to the way.
5. Call them by their fathers' names; it is more just with Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your dependents. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you err, but only for what your hearts deliberately intend; and Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
6. The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. And blood relatives are closer to one another according to the Book of Allah, than the believers and the emigrants, except that you may do kindness to your close associates. That is inscribed in the Book.
7. And when We took from the prophets their covenant, and from you, and from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus son of Mary; and We took from them a solemn covenant.
8. That He may question the truthful about their truthfulness; and He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.
9. O you who believe, remember Allah's favor upon you when armies came against you, and We sent against them a wind and armies you did not see; and Allah is ever Seeing of what you do.
10. When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes shifted and hearts reached the throats, and you entertained thoughts about Allah.
11. There the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking.
12. And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease said, "Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusion."
13. And when a group among them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no place of stay for you, so go back." And a party among them sought permission from the Prophet, saying, "Our houses are exposed," but they were not exposed; they intended nothing but flight.
14. And if they had been entered upon from its surrounding regions, then asked to commit sedition, they would have done so and would not have hesitated therein except briefly.
15. And certainly they had previously made a covenant with Allah that they would not turn their backs; and the covenant of Allah will be questioned.
16. Say, "Flight will never benefit you if you flee from death or killing; and even then you would not be allowed enjoyment except briefly."
17. Say, "Who is it that can protect you from Allah if He intends harm for you or intends mercy for you?" And they will not find for themselves, besides Allah, any protector or helper.
18. Allah certainly knows those among you who hinder and those who say to their brothers, "Come to us," and they do not come to battle except a little.
19. They are miserly toward you. And when fear comes, you see them looking at you, their eyes rolling like one overcome by death; but when fear departs, they lash you with sharp tongues; miserly toward good. Those have not believed, so Allah has rendered their deeds worthless; and that is easy for Allah.
20. They think the confederates have not departed; and if the confederates should come again, they would wish they were out among the Bedouins, asking about your news. And if they were among you, they would not fight except a little.
21. Certainly, there has been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.
22. And when the believers saw the confederates, they said, "This is what Allah and His Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth." And it only increased them in faith and submission.
23. Among the believers are men who have been true to what they pledged to Allah; among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who awaits — and they have not altered in the least.
24. That Allah may reward the truthful for their truthfulness, and punish the hypocrites if He wills, or accept their repentance. Truly, Allah has been Forgiving, Merciful.
25. And Allah turned back those who disbelieved in their rage, having attained no good; and Allah spared the believers from fighting. And Allah has been Powerful, Mighty.
26. And He brought down those of the People of the Book who supported them from their strongholds, and cast terror into their hearts — a group you killed, and a group you took captive.
27. And He caused you to inherit their land, their homes, their wealth, and a land you had not trodden. And Allah is Powerful over all things.
28. O Prophet, say to your wives: "If you desire the life of this world and its adornment, then come — I will provide for you and release you with a gracious release."
29. But if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the abode of the Hereafter, then surely Allah has prepared for those among you who do good a great reward."
30. O wives of the Prophet, whoever among you commits a clear indecency, her punishment will be doubled twofold; and that is easy for Allah.
31. And whoever among you is devoutly obedient to Allah and His Messenger and does righteous deeds, We will grant her reward twice over; and We have prepared for her a noble provision.
32. O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women; if you are mindful of Allah, then do not speak softly, lest one in whose heart is disease should desire, but speak an appropriate word.
33. And remain in your homes, and do not display yourselves with the display of the first ignorance; and establish prayer, and give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah only intends to remove from you impurity, O people of the household, and to purify you completely.
34. And remember what is recited in your homes of the verses of Allah and wisdom; surely Allah is Subtle, All-Aware.
35. Surely the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the devoutly obedient men and devoutly obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard, and the men who remember Allah frequently and the women who remember — Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward.
36. It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any choice in their affair; and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.
37. And when you said to the one upon whom Allah bestowed favor and upon whom you bestowed favor, "Keep your wife and fear Allah," while you concealed within yourself what Allah was to disclose, and you feared the people, though Allah has greater right that you fear Him. So when Zayd had fulfilled his need of her, We married her to you, so that there would be no difficulty upon the believers concerning the wives of their adopted sons when they have fulfilled their purpose with them; and the command of Allah is ever accomplished.
38. There is no blame upon the Prophet concerning what Allah has ordained for him — the established way of Allah with those who passed away before; and the command of Allah is a decree determined.
39. Those who convey the messages of Allah and fear Him, and fear no one except Allah; and sufficient is Allah as a Reckoner.
40. Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah is ever Knowing of all things.
41. O you who believe, remember Allah with frequent remembrance.
42. And glorify Him morning and evening.
43. It is He Who sends blessings upon you, and His angels, to bring you out from darkness into the light; and He is ever Merciful to the believers.
44. Their greeting on the Day they meet Him will be, "Peace"; and He has prepared for them a noble reward.
45. O Prophet, surely We have sent you as a witness, and a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner.
46. And one who invites to Allah by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.
47. And give glad tidings to the believers that for them from Allah is a great bounty.
48. And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and rely upon Allah; and sufficient is Allah as a Guardian.
49. O you who believe, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, you have no waiting period to count concerning them; so provide for them and release them in a gracious manner.
50. O Prophet, We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have given their bridal dues, and those whom your right hand possesses from what Allah has granted you, and the daughters of your paternal uncles, and the daughters of your paternal aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles, and the daughters of your maternal aunts who emigrated with you, and a believing woman if she offers herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet desires to marry her — this being exclusively for you, and not for the believers. Certainly, We know what We have ordained upon them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess, so that there may be no discomfort upon you; and Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
51. You may defer whom you will of them, and you may receive to yourself whom you will; and whoever you desire of those whom you have set aside, there is no blame upon you. That is nearer that their eyes may be comforted, and they may not grieve, and may all be pleased with what you have given them; and Allah knows what is in your hearts, and Allah is ever Knowing, Forbearing.
52. Women are not lawful for you after this, nor is it lawful for you to exchange them for other wives, even if their beauty pleases you, except those whom your right hand possesses; and Allah is ever Watchful over all things.
53. O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, not waiting for its preparation; but when you are invited, then enter, and when you have eaten, disperse without lingering for conversation. Indeed, that was troubling to the Prophet, and he is shy before you; but Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask them for something, ask them from behind a screen; that is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you to trouble the Messenger of Allah, nor ever to marry his wives after him; surely, that would be, in the sight of Allah, tremendous.
54. Whether you reveal something or conceal it, surely, Allah is ever Knowing of all things.
55. There is no blame upon them concerning their fathers, nor their sons, nor their brothers, nor their brothers' sons, nor their sisters' sons, nor their women, nor those whom their right hands possess. And fear Allah; certainly, Allah is ever Witness over all things.
56. Surely, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet; O you who believe, invoke blessings upon him and greet him with a greeting of peace.
57. Surely, those who offend Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating punishment.
58. And those who harm believing men and believing women undeservedly have certainly borne slander and manifest sin.
59. O Prophet, say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks closely over themselves; that is more suitable that they be recognized and not harmed. And Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
60. If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors in the city do not desist, We will surely incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little while.
61. Accursed, wherever they are found, they will be seized and slain relentlessly.
62. Such was the way of Allah with those who passed away before; and you will never find any change in the way of Allah.
63. People ask you about the Hour; say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah. And what will make you know? Perhaps the Hour is near."
64. Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a blazing Fire.
65. Abiding therein forever; they will find neither protector nor helper.
66. On the Day their faces are turned about in the Fire, they will say, "Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!"
67. And they will say, "Our Lord, we obeyed our masters and our great ones, and they led us astray from the path.
68. Our Lord, give them double punishment and curse them with a great curse."
69. O you who believe, be not like those who harmed Moses, but Allah cleared him of what they said; and he was honorable in the sight of Allah.
70. O you who believe, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.
71. He will amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great triumph.
72. Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and feared it; yet man bore it. Indeed, he has always been most unjust, most ignorant.
73. So that Allah may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the idolater men and idolater women; and that Allah may accept repentance from the believing men and believing women. And Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
