In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem.

2. The Romans have been defeated.

3. In the nearest land; yet they, after their defeat, will prevail.

4. Within a few years. To Allah belongs the command before and after; and on that day, the believers will rejoice.

5. In the victory of Allah. He grants victory to whom He wills; and He is the Almighty, the Merciful.

6. The promise of Allah — Allah does not break His promise; but most of the people do not know.

7. They know an outward aspect of the worldly life, but they, regarding the Hereafter, are heedless.

8. Have they not reflected within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for an appointed term; yet surely, many of the people, in the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers.

9. Have they not traveled on earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in strength; and they plowed the earth and built upon it more than these have built upon it; and their messengers came to them with clear proofs. Allah would not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.

10. Then the end of those who committed evil was the worst consequence, because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them.

11. Allah begins creation, then He repeats it; then to Him you will be returned.

12. And the Day the Hour arises, the criminals will despair.

13. And they will have no intercessors from among their associates; and they will be disbelievers in their associates.

14. And the Day the Hour arises — on that Day they will become separated.

15. As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, they will be honored, rejoicing in a lush garden.

16. But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment.

17. So glory be to Allah when you reach evening and when you reach morning.

18. And to Him belongs praise in the heavens and the earth, and at nightfall and when you reach midday.

19. He brings forth the living from the dead, and He brings forth the dead from the living, and He revives the earth after its death; and thus you will be brought forth.

20. And among His signs is that He created you from dust; then behold, you are human beings dispersing.

21. And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from yourselves, that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Certainly, in that are signs for a people who reflect.

22. And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Certainly, in that are signs for those of knowledge.

23. And among His signs is your sleep by night and day, and your seeking of His bounty. Certainly, in that are signs for a people who listen.

24. And among His signs is that He shows you lightning, causing fear and hope; and He sends down water from the sky, giving life by it to the earth after its death. Certainly, in that are signs for a people who reason.

25. And among His signs is that the heaven and the earth stand firm by His command; then when He calls you with a single call from the earth, behold, you will come forth.

26. And to Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth; all are obedient to Him.

27. And He is the One Who begins creation, then repeats it — and it is even easier for Him. And to Him belongs the highest example in the heavens and the earth; and He is the Almighty, the Wise.

28. He presents to you an example from yourselves: do you have among those whom your right hands possess any partners in what We have provided you, so that you are equal therein, fearing them as you fear yourselves? Thus do We detail the verses for a people who reason.

29. Rather, those who do wrong follow their desires without knowledge. Then who can guide one whom Allah has led astray? And they will have no helpers.

30. So set your face toward the religion, inclining to truth — the natural disposition of Allah upon which He created humankind. There is no altering the creation of Allah. That is the upright religion, but most people do not know.

31. Turning to Him, and fear Him, and establish prayer, and do not be among those who associate others with Allah.

32. Of those who divided their religion and became sects; each faction rejoicing in what it has.

33. And when harm touches people, they call upon their Lord, turning to Him; then, when He lets them taste mercy from Him, immediately a group among them associates others with their Lord.

34. So that they deny what We have given them. So enjoy yourselves, for soon you will know.

35. Or have We sent down to them an authority, so that it speaks of what they associate with Him?

36. And when We let people taste mercy, they rejoice in it; but if evil afflicts them for what their own hands have put forth, immediately they despair.

37. Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it? Certainly, in that are signs for a people who believe.

38. So give the relative his due, and the needy, and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the Face of Allah, and it is they who are the successful.

39. And whatever you give of usury, that it may increase within people's wealth, does not increase with Allah; but whatever you give of charity, desiring the Countenance of Allah — it is they who multiply.

40. Allah is He Who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, then will give you life again. Is there among your partners anyone who does anything of that? Glory be to Him, and exalted is He above what they associate.

41. Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of people have earned, so that He may make them taste some of what they have done, that perhaps they may return.

42. Say, "Travel through the earth, and observe how was the end of those who came before; most of them were polytheists."

43. So set your face toward the upright religion before there comes a Day from Allah that cannot be averted; on that Day they will be divided.

44. Whoever disbelieves, upon him is his disbelief; and whoever does righteousness, they are preparing for themselves.

45. That He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds from His bounty. Surely, He does not love the disbelievers.

46. And among His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of glad tidings, and to let you taste of His mercy, and so that the ships may sail by His command, and that you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.

47. And certainly We sent before you messengers to their people, and they came to them with clear proofs; then We took vengeance upon those who committed crimes — and it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.

48. Allah is He Who sends the winds, so they stir up clouds, and He spreads them in the sky as He wills, and He makes them fragments; then you see the rain emerge from within them. Then when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, behold, they rejoice.

49. Although before it was sent down upon them, they had been in despair.

50. So observe the effects of Allah's mercy — how He gives life to the earth after its death. Indeed, He Who gives it life is surely the Giver of life to the dead, and He is powerful over all things.

51. But if We should send a wind and they see it turn yellow, they would surely remain, after it, in disbelief.

52. For you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn away, retreating.

53. And you cannot guide the blind away from their error; you can make none hear except those who believe in Our signs, for they are Muslims.

54. Allah is the One Who created you from weakness, then appointed strength after weakness, then made weakness and gray hair after strength. He creates what He wills, and He is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful.

55. And on the Day when the Hour arises, the criminals will swear they had not remained but an hour; thus they were deluded.

56. And those who were given knowledge and faith will say, "Certainly, you remained, according to the decree of Allah, until the Day of Resurrection; so this is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not know."

57. So on that Day, their excuses will not benefit those who did wrong, nor will they be permitted to offer excuses.

58. And certainly, We have presented for the people in this Quran every kind of example; yet if you bring them a verse, those who disbelieve will surely say, "You are nothing but falsifiers."

59. Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know.

60. So be patient; surely, the promise of Allah is true. And let not those who lack certainty cause you to waver.
