In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. Ta. Ha.

2. We have not sent down to you the Quran that you should be distressed.

3. But only as a reminder for one who fears.

4. A revelation from Him Who created the earth and the high heavens.

5. The Most Merciful, established on the Throne.

6. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and whatever is between them, and whatever is beneath the soil.

7. And if you speak aloud — then certainly, He knows the secret and what is even more hidden.

8. Allah — there is no god except Him; to Him belong the most beautiful names.

9. And has the story of Moses reached you?

10. When he saw a fire, he said to his family, "Stay here; I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a burning torch or find at the fire some guidance."

11. Then when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses.

12. Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals; you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.

13. And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed.

14. Indeed, I am Allah; there is no god except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

15. Surely, the Hour is coming — I almost conceal it — so that every soul may be recompensed according to what it strives.

16. So do not let one who does not believe in it and follows his desire turn you away from it, lest you be ruined."

17. "And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?"

18. He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves with it for my sheep, and I have therein other uses."

19. He said, "Throw it down, O Moses."

20. So he threw it down, and behold — it was a serpent, moving swiftly.

21. He said, "Take hold of it and do not fear; We will return it to its former state.

22. And draw your hand close to your side; it will come forth white, without harm — another sign.

23. That We may show you some of Our greatest signs.

24. Go to Pharaoh; surely, he has transgressed."

25. He said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast.

26. And ease for me my task.

27. And untie a knot from my tongue.

28. That they may understand my speech.

29. And appoint for me a helper from my family.

30. Aaron, my brother.

31. Strengthen through him my resolve.

32. And make him share in my task.

33. That we may exalt You much.

34. And remember You much.

35. Truly, You have ever been watchful over us."

36. He said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.

37. And certainly, We have favored you another time.

38. When We inspired your mother what was inspired.

39. 'Cast him into the chest, then cast it into the river; then let the river cast it onto the shore, so that an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his may take him.' And I cast upon you love from Me, and that you might be brought up under My eye.

40. When your sister walked along and said, 'Shall I direct you to one who will nurse him?' Thus We returned you to your mother, so that her eye might be comforted, and that she might not grieve. And you killed a person, and We saved you from distress, and We tested you with trials. Then you remained for years among the people of Midian; then you came here at the decreed time, O Moses.

41. And I have made you for Myself.

42. Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not slacken in My remembrance.

43. Go both of you to Pharaoh; surely, he has transgressed.

44. And speak to him gently, that perhaps he may take heed or fear."

45. They said, "Our Lord, we fear that he may hasten against us or transgress."

46. He said, "Do not fear; surely, I am with you both — I hear and I see.

47. So go to him and say, 'We are messengers of your Lord; so send with us the Children of Israel, and do not torment them. We have certainly come to you with a sign from your Lord; and peace be upon whoever follows guidance.

48. Truly, it has been revealed to us that punishment is upon whoever denies and turns away.'"

49. He said, "So who is your Lord, O Moses?"

50. He said, "Our Lord is He Who gave each thing its form, then guided it."

51. He said, "Then what about the former generations?"

52. He said, "Their knowledge is with my Lord, in a Book; my Lord neither errs nor forgets.

53. He Who made for you the earth as a cradle, and threaded for you pathways therein, and sent down water from the sky; then We brought forth thereby pairs of diverse plants.

54. Eat and pasture your livestock. Truly, in that are signs for those endowed with understanding."

55. From it We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth once more.

56. And certainly We showed him all Our signs, but he denied and refused.

57. He said, "Have you come to us, to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

58. Then we shall surely bring you magic like it; so set between us and you an appointment, which neither we nor you shall fail to keep, at a neutral location."

59. He said, "Your appointment is the Day of Adornment, and let the people be gathered in the morning."

60. So Pharaoh withdrew, gathered his plan, then came forth.

61. Moses said to them, "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah, lest He destroy you with punishment; and surely he who invents falsehood has failed."

62. So they disputed their affair among themselves, and concealed their private conversation.

63. They said, "These two are certainly magicians who intend to drive you out of your land with their magic, and do away with your most exemplary tradition.

64. So gather your plan, then come forth in ranks; and surely successful today is he who prevails."

65. They said, "O Moses, either you cast, or we shall be the first to cast."

66. He said, "Rather, you cast." Then behold — their ropes and their staffs appeared to him, by their magic, as though they were moving swiftly.

67. So Moses felt within himself apprehension.

68. We said, "Do not fear — you have the upper hand.

69. And cast what is in your right hand — it will swallow up what they have crafted; what they have crafted is only a magician's scheme, and the magician will not succeed wherever he goes."

70. So the magicians fell down prostrate; they said, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

71. He said, "Have you believed in him before I gave you permission? Surely he is your chief who taught you magic; so I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you upon the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe and more lasting in punishment."

72. They said, "We will never prefer you over the clear proofs that have come to us, nor over Him Who created us; so decree whatever you will decree — you can only decree concerning this worldly life.

73. Surely we have believed in our Lord, that He may forgive us our sins and the magic to which you compelled us; and Allah is better and more lasting."

74. Certainly, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal — for him is Hell, wherein he neither dies nor lives.

75. And whoever comes to Him as a believer, having done righteous deeds — for them are the highest ranks.

76. Gardens of Eden beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein forever; and that is the reward of one who purifies himself.

77. And certainly We revealed to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants, then strike for them a dry path in the sea; do not fear being overtaken, nor should you be afraid."

78. Then Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them.

79. And Pharaoh led his people astray, and he did not guide.

80. O Children of Israel, We have surely saved you from your enemy, and We appointed for you the right side of the Mount, and sent down upon you manna and quails.

81. Eat from the good things We have provided you, but do not transgress therein, lest My wrath descend upon you; and whoever My wrath descends upon has certainly fallen.

82. Yet truly, I am All-Forgiving toward whoever repents, believes, does righteous deeds, and then remains guided.

83. "And what hastened you away from your people, O Moses?"

84. He said, "They are close upon my footsteps, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You may be pleased."

85. He said, "Then indeed, We have tested your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray."

86. So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Was the covenant too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise to me?"

87. They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our own will, but we were burdened with loads of ornaments from the people's jewelry, so we cast them; thus did the Samiri cast."

88. Then he brought forth for them a calf — a body with a lowing sound — and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses," but he forgot.

89. Did they not see that it could not respond to them with any speech, nor possess for them harm or benefit?

90. And certainly Aaron had said to them before, "O my people, you are only being tested by it; and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command."

91. They said, "We will never cease being devoted to it until Moses returns to us."

92. He said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray.

93. From following me? Did you disobey my command?"

94. He said, "O son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or by my head; indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You have caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe my word.'"

95. He said, "Then what is your case, O Samiri?"

96. He said, "I perceived what they did not perceive, so I took a handful from the traces of the messenger, and I cast it; thus did my soul entice me."

97. He said, "Then go; surely, for you in this life is to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, for you is an appointment you will not fail to keep. And look at your god to which you remained devoted — we will certainly burn it, then scatter it utterly into the sea."

98. Your god is only Allah, besides Whom there is no god; He encompasses all things in knowledge.

99. Thus do We relate to you from the news of what has preceded; and We have given you from Us a Reminder.

100. Whoever turns away from it, he will surely bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection.

101. Abiding eternally in it; and evil for them on the Day of Resurrection is that burden.

102. The Day the Horn will be blown; and We will gather the criminals on that Day, blue.

103. They will whisper among themselves, "You remained only ten."

104. We know best what they will say, when the most exemplary of them in method will say, "You remained only a day."

105. And they ask you about the mountains; say, "My Lord will scatter them utterly.

106. And leave them a flat, barren plain.

107. You will see therein neither crookedness nor unevenness."

108. On that Day, they will follow the caller without deviation; and voices will be humbled before the Most Merciful, so you will hear nothing but a whisper.

109. On that Day, intercession will not benefit except one whom the Most Merciful has permitted, and whose word He approves.

110. He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass Him not in knowledge.

111. And faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer; and he who bears wrongdoing has failed.

112. But whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer — he will fear neither injustice nor deprivation.

113. And thus have We sent it down as an Arabic Quran, and have diversified therein the warnings, that they may become mindful or it may produce for them remembrance.

114. So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; and do not hasten with the Quran before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."

115. And certainly, We made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot; and We found in him no firm determination.

116. And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated, except Iblis; he refused.

117. Then We said, "O Adam, surely this is an enemy to you and to your wife; so let him not expel you both from Paradise, lest you suffer.

118. Surely you will neither hunger therein nor be naked.

119. And indeed, you shall neither thirst therein nor suffer from the sun's heat."

120. But Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and a kingdom that does not decay?"

121. So they both ate from it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise; and Adam disobeyed his Lord, and thus went astray.

122. Then his Lord chose him, accepted his repentance, and guided him.

123. He said, "Descend from it, both of you, all together — some of you enemies to others; yet if guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer.

124. And whoever turns away from My remembrance, for him is surely a life of hardship; and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection."

125. He will say, "My Lord, why have You raised me blind, while I was once seeing?"

126. He will say, "Thus did Our verses come to you, but you forgot them; and thus today you are forgotten."

127. And thus do We recompense whoever transgresses and does not believe in the verses of his Lord; and surely the punishment of the Hereafter is severer and more enduring.

128. Has it not guided them, how many generations We destroyed before them, in whose dwellings they now walk? Surely in that are signs for those of understanding.

129. And were it not for a word already decreed from your Lord, it would have been inevitable — and for a specified term.

130. So be patient over what they say, and glorify with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting; and from the hours of the night glorify, and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.

131. And do not extend your eyes toward what We have granted some groups among them — the splendor of the life of this world — that We may test them thereby; and the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.

132. And enjoin prayer upon your family, and persevere in it; We do not ask you for provision — We provide for you; and the good outcome is for righteousness.

133. And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them clear evidence of what was in the former scriptures?

134. And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before it, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger, so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?"

135. Say, "Each is waiting; so wait — for you will soon know who are the companions of the straight path, and who is rightly guided."
