In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem.

2. This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for those mindful of Allah.

3. Those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided them.

4. And those who believe in what was revealed to you, and what was revealed before you, and who are certain of the Hereafter.

5. It is they who are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is they who are the successful.

6. Certainly, those who disbelieve — it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them — they will not believe.

7. Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and over their vision is a veil; and for them is a great punishment.

8. And among the people are those who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," yet they are not believers.

9. They seek to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive none except themselves, and they perceive it not.

10. In their hearts is a disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they used to lie.

11. And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on earth," they say, "We are only reformers."

12. Truly, it is they who are the corruptors, but they perceive it not.

13. And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Shall we believe as the foolish have believed?" Truly, it is they who are the foolish, but they know it not.

14. And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe," but when they are alone with their devils, they say, "We are with you; we were only mocking."

15. Allah mocks them, and He lets them wander blindly in their transgression.

16. It is they who have purchased misguidance for guidance; their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.

17. Their likeness is as one who kindled a fire, but when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness, unable to see.

18. Deaf, dumb, blind — so they will not return.

19. Or like a rainstorm from the sky, in it darkness, thunder, and lightning; they put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps, fearing death — but Allah encompasses the disbelievers.

20. The lightning almost snatches away their sight; whenever it illuminates for them, they walk in it, but when darkness covers them, they stand still. And if Allah had willed, He would have taken away their hearing and their sight; truly, Allah is powerful over all things.

21. O humankind, worship your Lord, Who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful of Allah.

22. He Who made for you the earth a resting place and the sky a canopy, and sent down water from the sky, bringing forth thereby fruits as provision for you; so do not set up rivals to Allah while you know.

23. And if you are in doubt concerning what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a chapter like it, and call your witnesses other than Allah, if you are truthful.

24. But if you do not — and you will never do — then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

25. And give glad tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds, that for them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided from it with fruit as provision, they will say, "This is what we were provided before," and they will be given it in likeness; and for them therein are purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.

26. Indeed, Allah is not ashamed to present an example, even of a mosquito or anything above it. As for those who believe, they know it is the truth from their Lord; but as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this example?" He misleads many thereby and guides many thereby; yet He misleads none thereby except the defiantly disobedient.

27. Those who break the covenant of Allah after its ratification, and sever what Allah has commanded to be joined, and spread corruption on earth; it is they who are the losers.

28. How can you disbelieve in Allah, when you were lifeless and He gave you life; then He will cause you to die, then He will give you life again, then to Him you will be returned?

29. It is He Who created for you all that is on earth; then He turned to the heaven and fashioned them into seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things.

30. And when your Lord said to the angels, "I am placing on earth a successor," they said, "Will You place on it one who will spread corruption therein and shed blood, while we glorify You with praise and sanctify You?" He said, "Truly, I know what you do not know."

31. And He taught Adam the names, all of them; then He presented them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful."

32. They said, "Glory be to You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Truly, You alone are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise."

33. He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not say to you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you conceal?"

34. And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated, except Iblis; he refused and was arrogant, and was among the disbelievers.

35. And We said, "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise, and eat freely from it wherever you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest you become among the wrongdoers."

36. But Satan caused them to slip from it, and removed them from that in which they had been. And We said, "Descend, as enemies to one another; and for you on earth is a dwelling place and provision for a time."

37. Then Adam received words from his Lord, and He accepted his repentance. Truly, He alone is the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

38. We said, "Descend from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance — no fear shall be upon them, nor shall they grieve."

39. But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs — those are the companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein eternally.

40. O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill My covenant; I will fulfill your covenant, and fear Me alone.

41. And believe in what I have sent down, confirming that which is with you, and do not be the first to disbelieve in it; and do not sell My signs for a small price, and fear Me alone.

42. And do not mix the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know.

43. And establish prayer, and give charity, and bow with those who bow.

44. Do you command people to righteousness and forget yourselves, while you recite the Scripture? Will you not reason?

45. And seek help through patience and prayer; and truly, it is difficult except for the humble.

46. Those who think they will meet their Lord, and that to Him they will return.

47. O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you over all the worlds.

48. And fear a Day when no soul will avail another soul in anything, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be helped.

49. And when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, who afflicted you with the worst torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women; and in that was a great trial from your Lord.

50. And when We parted the sea for you, thus We saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on.

51. And when We appointed for Moses forty nights, then you took the calf after him, while you were wrongdoers.

52. Then We pardoned you after that, so that perhaps you would be grateful.

53. And when We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion, so that you might be guided.

54. And when Moses said to his people, "O my people, you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf; so repent to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is better for you with your Creator." Then He accepted your repentance; truly, He is the Acceptor of repentance, the Merciful.

55. And when you said, "O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah openly," so the thunderbolt seized you while you were looking on.

56. Then We revived you after your death, so that you might be grateful.

57. And We shaded you with clouds and sent down to you manna and quails: "Eat from the good things We have provided you." And they did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves.

58. And when We said, "Enter this town and eat from it freely wherever you wish, and enter the gate bowing humbly and say, 'Removal,' We will forgive your sins, and We will increase the reward of those who do good."

59. But those who did wrong changed the words to other than what had been said to them; so We sent down upon those who did wrong a punishment from heaven because they were defiantly disobedient.

60. And when Moses asked for water for his people, We said, "Strike the rock with your staff." Then twelve springs gushed forth from it; each people knew their drinking place. "Eat and drink from Allah's provision, and do not act wickedly on earth as corruptors."

61. And when you said, "O Moses, we cannot endure one kind of food; so call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from what the earth grows — its herbs, cucumbers, garlic, lentils, and onions." He said, "Would you exchange what is inferior for what is better? Go down to Misr, and you will have what you asked for." And humiliation and poverty were struck upon them, and they incurred wrath from Allah. That was because they used to disbelieve in the signs of Allah and kill the prophets unjustly. That was because they disobeyed and were transgressors.

62. Truly, those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians — whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does righteous deeds — they will have their reward with their Lord; no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

63. And when We took your covenant and raised the mountain above you: "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and remember what is in it, so that you may become mindful of Allah."

64. Then you turned away after that; and if not for Allah's favor upon you and His mercy, you would surely have been among the losers.

65. And certainly you knew those among you who transgressed concerning the Sabbath; so We said to them, "Be apes, despised."

66. Thus We made it an exemplary punishment for those present and those who succeeded them, and an admonition for those mindful of Allah.

67. And when Moses said to his people, "Allah commands you to slaughter a cow," they said, "Do you take us in mockery?" He said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant."

68. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us, that He may clarify to us what it is." He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither old nor young, but of middle age between the two'; so do what you are commanded."

69. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us, that He may clarify to us its color." He said, "He says, 'It is a yellow cow, bright in color, pleasing to those who look upon it.'"

70. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us, that He may clarify to us what it is; indeed, cows appear similar to us, and surely, if Allah wills, we will be guided."

71. He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to plow the earth nor to irrigate the field, sound, without blemish.'" They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it, though they almost did not.

72. And when you killed a soul and disputed concerning it — and Allah was to bring forth what you were concealing.

73. So We said, "Strike him with part of it." Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs, that you might understand.

74. Then your hearts hardened after that, becoming like stones or even harder; for indeed, among stones are those from which rivers burst forth, and among them are those that split open so water flows from them, and among them are those that fall down out of fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

75. Do you then hope that they will believe you, when a group among them used to hear the word of Allah, then distort it after they had understood it, while they knew?

76. And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you inform them of what Allah has revealed to you, so they may argue with you about it before your Lord? Do you not reason?"

77. Do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare?

78. And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except wishful thinking; they do nothing but conjecture.

79. So woe to those who write the Scripture with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah," to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn.

80. And they say, "The Fire will not touch us except for a limited number of days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah what you do not know?"

81. Yes, whoever earns evil and his sin encompasses him — those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

82. And those who believe and do righteous deeds — those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.

83. And when We took the covenant of the Children of Israel: "Worship none but Allah; and to parents do good, and to relatives, and to orphans, and to the needy; and speak kindly to people; and establish prayer and give charity." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.

84. And when We took your covenant: "Do not shed your blood or expel yourselves from your homes." Then you acknowledged, while you bore witness.

85. Then here you are, killing one another and expelling a group of your own people from their homes, collaborating against them in sin and aggression. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, though their expulsion was forbidden to you. Do you believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in part? So what is the recompense for those among you who do that except disgrace in worldly life; and on the Day of Resurrection they will be returned to the severest punishment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

86. Those are the ones who have purchased the life of this world at the expense of the Hereafter; so the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be helped.

87. And certainly We gave Moses the Scripture and followed him with messengers; and We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. Is it that whenever a messenger came to you with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? So a group you denied, and a group you killed.

88. And they say, "Our hearts are wrapped." Rather, Allah has cursed them for their disbelief; little is it that they believe.

89. And when there came to them a Book from Allah, confirming what was with them — and before that they used to pray for victory over those who disbelieved — yet when there came to them what they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah is upon the disbelievers.

90. Evil is that for which they have sold themselves: that they disbelieve in what Allah has sent down, out of envy that Allah should send down of His favor upon whom He wills among His servants. Thus they have incurred wrath upon wrath; and for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

91. And when it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah has sent down," they say, "We believe in what was sent down to us," and they disbelieve in what is beyond it; although it is the truth, confirming what is with them. Say, "Then why did you kill the prophets of Allah before, if you were believers?"

92. And certainly Moses came to you with clear proofs; then you took the calf after him, while you were wrongdoers.

93. And when We took your covenant and raised the mount above you: "Take firmly what We have given you, and listen." They said, "We hear and we disobey." And their hearts absorbed the calf because of their disbelief. Say, "Evil is that which your belief commands you, if you are believers."

94. Say, "If the abode of the Hereafter with Allah is exclusively for you, apart from other people, then wish for death, if you are truthful."

95. But they will never wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have sent forth; and Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

96. And you will surely find them the most eager of people for life — even more than those who associate others partners. Each one of them wishes he could be granted life for a thousand years; yet it would not remove him from the punishment were he granted such life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do.

97. Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel — he has brought it down upon your heart by Allah's permission, confirming what was before it, and as guidance and glad tidings for the believers."

98. Whoever is an enemy to Allah, and His angels, and His messengers, and Gabriel, and Michael — then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.

99. And certainly We have sent down to you clear verses; and none disbelieve in them except the defiantly disobedient.

100. Is it not that whenever they made a covenant, a group among them cast it aside? Rather, most of them do not believe.

101. And when a Messenger from Allah came to them, confirming what was with them, a group of those who were given the Scripture cast the Book of Allah behind their backs, as though they did not know.

102. And they followed what the devils recited during the reign of Solomon; Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and what was sent down upon the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. Yet they taught no one until they said, "We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve." Thus they learned from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife; yet they harm no one by it except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harms them and does not benefit them; and certainly they knew that whoever purchased it would have no share in the Hereafter. Miserable indeed is that for which they sold themselves, if only they knew.

103. And if they had believed and been mindful of Allah, surely the reward from Allah would have been better, if only they knew.

104. O you who believe, do not say, "Ra'ina," but say, "Unzurna," and listen; and for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

105. Neither those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture, nor the idolaters, wish that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord; but Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of great bounty.

106. Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is powerful over all things?

107. Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and that you have no protector or helper besides Allah?

108. Or do you wish to question your Messenger as Moses was questioned before? And whoever replaces belief for disbelief has certainly strayed from the right path.

109. Many among the People of the Scripture wish they could turn you back to disbelief after your belief, out of envy from themselves, even after the truth has become clear to them. So pardon and overlook until Allah brings His command; certainly Allah is powerful over all things.

110. And establish prayer and give charity; and whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah. Certainly Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

111. And they say, "None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian." Those are their wishes. Say, "Bring your proof, if you are truthful."

112. Rather, whoever submits his face to Allah while being a doer of good, he will have his reward with his Lord; no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

113. And the Jews say, "The Christians have nothing," and the Christians say, "The Jews have nothing," while they recite the Scripture. Thus say those who do not know, similar to their saying; Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.

114. And who is more unjust than one who prevents the mosques of Allah from His name being mentioned in them, and strives toward their ruin? Those — it is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

115. And to Allah belong the east and the west; so wherever you turn, there is the Countenance of Allah. Truly, Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

116. And they say, "Allah has taken a son." Glory be to Him! Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth; all are devoutly obedient to Him.

117. Originator of the heavens and the earth. And when He decrees a matter, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.

118. And those who do not know say, "Why does Allah not speak to us, or a sign come to us?" Thus said those before them, similar to their saying; their hearts resemble one another. We have certainly made clear the signs for a people who are certain.

119. Truly, We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner; and you will not be questioned about the companions of Hellfire.

120. And never will the Jews or the Christians be pleased with you until you follow their religion. Say, "Truly, the guidance of Allah is the guidance." And if you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have from Allah neither protector nor helper.

121. Those to whom We have given the Scripture recite it with its true recital; it is they who believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it — it is they who are the losers.

122. O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you over the worlds.

123. And fear a Day when no soul will avail another soul in anything, nor will compensation be accepted from it, nor will intercession benefit it, nor will they be helped.

124. And when Abraham was tested by his Lord with certain words, and he fulfilled them, He said, "I will make you a leader for humankind." He said, "And from my descendants?" He said, "My covenant does not reach the wrongdoers."

125. And when We made the House a place of return for humankind and a sanctuary, and said, "Take the station of Abraham as a place of prayer." And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, "Purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who remain there in devotion, and those who bow and prostrate."

126. And when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a secure city, and provide its people with fruits — those among them who believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said, "And whoever disbelieves — I will grant him enjoyment for a little while; then I will compel him to the punishment of the Fire — and wretched is the destination."

127. And when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House, and Ishmael, "Our Lord, accept from us; surely You are the Hearing, the Knowing."

128. "Our Lord, and make us submissive to You, and from our descendants a community submissive to You; and show us our rites, and accept our repentance; surely You are the Acceptor of repentance, the Merciful."

129. "Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses, and teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them; surely You are the Mighty, the Wise."

130. And who would turn away from the religion of Abraham except one who fools himself? Certainly, We chose him in this world; and surely, in the Hereafter, he will be among the righteous.

131. When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds."

132. And Abraham enjoined it upon his sons, and so did Jacob, "O my sons, Allah has chosen for you the religion; so do not die except while you are submissive."

133. Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers — Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac — one God; and to Him we are submissive."

134. That is a community which has passed away; for it is what it earned, and for you is what you have earned; and you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

135. And they say, "Be Jews or Christians, and you will be guided." Say, "Rather, the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of those who associate others with Allah."

136. Say, "We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit."

137. So if they believe in the same as you believe, then they have been guided; but if they turn away, then they are only in dissension. Allah will suffice you against them; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

138. The coloring of Allah — and who is better than Allah in coloring? And we are worshipers of Him.

139. Say, "Do you argue with us concerning Allah, while He is our Lord and your Lord? For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds; and we are sincerely devoted to Him."

140. Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say, "Do you know better, or does Allah?" And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

141. That is a nation which has passed away; for it is what it earned, and for you is what you earn; and you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

142. The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their direction of prayer which they used to face?" Say, "To Allah belong the east and the west; He guides whom He wills to a straight path."

143. And thus We have made you a balanced nation, that you may be witnesses over humanity, and the Messenger may be a witness over you. And We did not appoint the direction of prayer which you used to face except that We might know who follows the Messenger from who turns back on his heels. And indeed, it was difficult except for those whom Allah guided. And Allah would never let your faith be lost; truly, Allah is Kind and Merciful to humanity.

144. We have certainly seen the turning of your face toward the heaven; so We will surely turn you toward a direction of prayer with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque; and wherever you may be, turn your faces toward it. And indeed, those who were given the Scripture surely know that it is the truth from their Lord; and Allah is not unaware of what they do.

145. And even if you brought to those who were given the Scripture every sign, they would not follow your direction of prayer; nor will you follow their direction of prayer; nor will some of them follow the direction of prayer of others. And if you were to follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, then indeed, you would surely be among the wrongdoers.

146. Those to whom We gave the Scripture recognize it as they recognize their own children; yet indeed a group among them conceals the truth knowingly.

147. The truth is from your Lord; so do not ever be among those who doubt.

148. For each is a direction toward which he turns; so race toward good deeds. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you all together; truly Allah is powerful over all things.

149. And from wherever you set out, turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque; and indeed it is the truth from your Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

150. And from wherever you set out, turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque; and wherever you may be, turn your faces toward it, so that people will have no argument against you — except those among them who do wrong; so do not fear them, but fear Me — and so that I may complete My favor upon you, and that you may be guided.

151. Just as We have sent among you a Messenger from yourselves, reciting to you Our verses, purifying you, teaching you the Scripture and wisdom, and teaching you what you did not know.

152. So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me, and do not be ungrateful.

153. O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer; truly Allah is with the patient.

154. And do not say of those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you do not perceive.

155. And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth, lives, and fruits; but give glad tidings to the patient.

156. Those who, when affliction befalls them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."

157. Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy; and those are the rightly guided.

158. Safa and Marwah are among the rites of Allah; so whoever performs pilgrimage to the House or performs Umrah, there is no blame upon him for going around between them. And whoever voluntarily does good — then surely Allah is Appreciative, Knowing.

159. Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book — those, Allah curses them, and those who curse, curse them.

160. Except those who repent, reform, and clarify — those, I will accept their repentance; and I am the Acceptor of repentance, the Merciful.

161. Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers — upon them is the curse of Allah, and of the angels, and of all humankind.

162. Abiding eternally therein; the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.

163. And your God is one God; there is no god except Him, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

164. Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the ships that sail in the sea with what benefits the people, and what Allah sends down from the sky of water, giving life thereby to the earth after its death, and dispersing therein every kind of creature, and the directing of the winds, and the clouds subjected between the sky and the earth — are signs for a people who understand.

165. And among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals, loving them as the love of Allah; but those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. And if only those who do wrong could see, when they behold the punishment, that all power belongs entirely to Allah, and that Allah is severe in punishment.

166. When those who were followed disown those who followed, and they see the punishment, and all ties between them are severed.

167. And those who followed will say, "If only we had another chance, we would disown them as they have disowned us." Thus Allah will show them their deeds as regrets for them; and they will never emerge from the Fire.

168. O humankind, eat from what is on earth lawful and good, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan; indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

169. He only commands you to evil and indecency, and to say about Allah what you do not know.

170. And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has sent down," they say, "Rather, we follow what we found our fathers upon." Even if their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?

171. And the example of those who disbelieve is like one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries — deaf, dumb, blind; thus they do not understand.

172. O you who believe, eat from the good things We have provided you, and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him you worship.

173. He has only forbidden you carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is compelled by necessity, neither desiring nor transgressing, there is no sin upon him; truly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

174. Those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price — they consume nothing into their bellies except fire; and Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment.

175. Those are the ones who have exchanged guidance for misguidance, and forgiveness for punishment; how patient they are with the Fire!

176. That is because Allah has sent down the Book in truth; and indeed, those who differ concerning the Book are surely in deep discord.

177. Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west; rather, righteousness is one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets; and gives wealth, despite love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask, and for freeing slaves; and establishes prayer and gives charity; and those who fulfill their promise when they promise; and those who are patient in hardship, adversity, and during battle. Those are the ones who have been truthful, and those are the mindful of Allah.

178. O you who believe, prescribed for you is legal retribution concerning those murdered: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever is pardoned by his brother in any way, then let there be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with kindness. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that, for him is a painful punishment.

179. And for you in legal retribution is life, O people of understanding, that you may become mindful of Allah.

180. Prescribed for you, when death approaches any of you, if he leaves behind wealth, is a bequest for parents and close relatives according to what is fair — a duty upon the mindful of Allah.

181. Then whoever alters it after hearing it, its sin is only upon those who alter it; truly, Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

182. But whoever fears from a testator some bias or sin, and reconciles between them, there is no sin upon him; truly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

183. O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become mindful of Allah.

184. For a limited number of days; but whoever among you is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of other days. And upon those who can bear it, a ransom: feeding a needy person. Yet whoever volunteers good, it is better for him; and fasting is better for you, if you only knew.

185. The month of Ramadan, in which the Quran was revealed as guidance for humankind, and clear proofs of guidance and the Criterion. So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of other days. Allah intends ease for you and does not intend hardship for you, and that you complete the prescribed period, and that you magnify Allah for having guided you, and that you may be grateful.

186. And when My servants ask you concerning Me, truly I am near; I answer the call of the caller when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me, that they may be rightly guided.

187. Permitted for you, on the night of fasting, is intimacy with your wives; they are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them. Allah knew that you used to betray yourselves, so He turned to you and pardoned you. So now, approach them and seek what Allah has ordained for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread; then complete the fast until nightfall. But do not approach them while you are devoting yourselves in the mosques. These are the limits set by Allah, so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His verses to the people, that they may become mindful of Him.

188. And do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly, nor offer it to the authorities, so that you may consume a portion of people's wealth sinfully, while you know.

189. They ask you about the new moons; say, "They are measures of time for the people and for the pilgrimage." And righteousness is not that you enter houses from their backs, but righteousness is one who is mindful of Allah. So enter houses by their doors, and be mindful of Allah, so that you may succeed.

190. And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress; surely Allah does not love the transgressors.

191. And kill them wherever you encounter them, and expel them from where they expelled you; for persecution is more severe than killing. But do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight you there; if they fight you, then kill them — such is the recompense of the disbelievers.

192. But if they cease, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

193. And fight them until there is no persecution and religion is for Allah alone; but if they cease, then there is no hostility except against the wrongdoers.

194. The sacred month is for the sacred month, and violations demand retaliation. So whoever transgresses against you, transgress against him in the same manner as he transgressed against you; and be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is with those mindful of Him.

195. And spend in the way of Allah, and do not cast yourselves by your own hands into destruction; and do good — surely Allah loves those who do good.

196. And complete the Hajj and the Umrah for Allah. But if you are prevented, then offer whatever sacrificial animal is easily available; and do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal reaches its place of sacrifice. Whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head, then a ransom of fasting, or charity, or a sacrifice. When you are secure, whoever performs Umrah followed by Hajj, then offer whatever sacrificial animal is easily available. But whoever cannot find one, then fasting three days during Hajj and seven when you return — that is ten complete. That is for one whose family is not present at the Sacred Mosque. And fear Allah, and know that Allah is severe in punishment.

197. The Hajj is during known months; so whoever undertakes the obligation of Hajj therein, there shall be no sexual relations, nor wickedness, nor argument during the Hajj. Whatever good you do, Allah knows it. And take provisions, but truly the best provision is piety. And fear Me, O people of understanding.

198. There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord. But when you depart from Arafat, remember Allah at the Sacred Monument; and remember Him as He has guided you, though before this you were surely among those astray.

199. Then depart from where the people depart, and seek forgiveness from Allah; truly Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

200. And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah as you remember your forefathers, or with even greater remembrance. Among the people is one who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world," yet he has no share in the Hereafter.

201. And among them is one who says, "Our Lord, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

202. Those will have a share of what they have earned; and Allah is swift in reckoning.

203. And remember Allah during numbered days. Whoever hastens in two days, there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him — for whoever fears Allah. And fear Allah, and know that to Him you will be gathered.

204. Among the people is one whose speech pleases you in the life of this world, and he calls Allah to witness what is in his heart, yet he is the fiercest of opponents.

205. And when he turns away, he strives throughout the earth to cause corruption therein, and to destroy crops and progeny; and Allah does not love corruptors.

206. And when it is said to him, "Fear Allah," pride in sin seizes him; so sufficient for him is Hell — and surely it is an evil resting place.

207. And among the people is one who sells himself seeking the pleasure of Allah; and Allah is Kind to the servants.

208. O you who believe, enter into submission completely, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan; surely he is to you a clear enemy.

209. But if you slip after clear proofs have come to you, then know that Allah is Mighty, Wise.

210. Do they await anything except that Allah should come to them in shadows of clouds, along with the angels? And the matter will have been decreed. And to Allah all matters are returned.

211. Ask the Children of Israel how many a clear sign We gave them; and whoever exchanges the favor of Allah after it has come to him — then surely Allah is severe in punishment.

212. Beautified for those who disbelieve is the life of this world, and they mock those who believe; but those who are mindful of Allah will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah provides for whom He wills without measure.

213. Humanity was one community; then Allah sent the prophets as bearers of glad tidings and as warners, and sent down with them the Scripture in truth, to judge between people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over it except those who were given it — after clear proofs had come to them — out of rivalry among themselves. Then Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.

214. Or did you think that you would enter Paradise while the likeness of those who passed away before you has not yet come to you? Affliction and hardship touched them, and they were shaken until the Messenger and those who believed with him said, "When is the help of Allah?" Truly, the help of Allah is near.

215. They ask you what they should spend. Say, "Whatever good you spend is for parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, and the traveler. And whatever good you do, Allah is surely Knowing of it."

216. Fighting has been prescribed for you, though it is disliked by you. But perhaps you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing while it is bad for you; and Allah knows, and you do not know.

217. They ask you about fighting in the sacred month. Say, "Fighting in it is a grave matter; but hindering from the way of Allah, denying Him, preventing access to the Sacred Mosque, and expelling its people from it are graver in the sight of Allah. And persecution is graver than killing." They will not cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion, if they are able. And whoever among you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever — those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter; and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

218. Truly, those who have believed, and those who have emigrated and striven in the way of Allah — those hope for the mercy of Allah; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

219. They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, "In them is great sin and benefits for people; but their sin is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they should spend. Say, "The surplus." Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses, so that you may reflect.

220. On this world and the Hereafter. And they ask you about the orphans. Say, "Improvement for them is best; and if you intermingle with them, they are your brothers." And Allah knows the corrupter from the reformer. Had Allah willed, He could have burdened you; truly, Allah is Mighty, Wise.

221. And do not marry idolatrous women until they believe; and a believing slave woman is better than an idolatress, even if she pleases you. And do not give your women in marriage to idolaters until they believe; and a believing slave is better than an idolater, even if he pleases you. Those invite to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people, so that they may remember.

222. And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is a harm; so keep away from women during menstruation, and do not approach them until they are purified. Then, when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has commanded you." Truly, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves.

223. Your women are a tilth for you; so approach your tilth as you wish, and send forth for yourselves. And fear Allah, and know that you will meet Him; and give glad tidings to the believers.

224. And do not make Allah an obstacle through your oaths against being righteous, fearing Him, and making peace among people; and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

225. Allah does not hold you accountable for unintentional oaths, but He holds you accountable for what your hearts have earned; and Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

226. For those who swear abstinence from their wives is a waiting period of four months; then if they return, truly Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

227. And if they resolve upon divorce, then truly Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

228. Divorced women shall wait by themselves for three periods; and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs, if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have greater right to take them back during this period, if they desire reconciliation. And women have rights similar to their obligations, according to what is fair; but men have a degree over them. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.

229. Divorce is twice; then either retain them honorably or release them kindly. And it is not lawful for you to take back anything of what you have given them, unless both fear that they cannot uphold the limits set by Allah. So if you fear that they cannot uphold the limits set by Allah, there is no blame upon either of them concerning what she ransoms herself with. These are the limits set by Allah, so do not transgress them; and whoever transgresses the limits set by Allah — those are the wrongdoers.

230. If he divorces her, she is not lawful for him thereafter until she marries another husband; if he divorces her, there is no blame upon them if they return to each other, if they think that they can maintain the limits of Allah. These are the limits of Allah; He makes them clear to a people who know.

231. When you divorce women and they reach their term, either retain them honorably or release them honorably; do not retain them to cause harm, so that you transgress. Whoever does that has wronged himself. Do not take the verses of Allah in mockery; remember the favor of Allah upon you and what He has revealed to you of the Book and wisdom, by which He instructs you. Be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is Knowing of all things.

232. When you divorce women and they reach their term, do not prevent them from marrying their husbands if they mutually agree honorably. This is instructed to whoever among you believes in Allah and the Last Day; that is purer for you and cleaner. Allah knows, and you do not know.

233. Mothers shall nurse their children two complete years, for whoever wishes to complete the nursing. Upon the father is their provision and clothing honorably; no soul is burdened beyond its capacity. Neither shall a mother be harmed through her child, nor a father through his child; and upon the heir is a similar duty. If they both desire weaning by mutual consent and consultation, there is no blame upon them. If you wish to have your children nursed by others, there is no blame upon you, provided you pay what you give honorably. Be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is Seeing of what you do.

234. Those among you who die and leave behind wives, they shall wait by themselves four months and ten. When they reach their term, there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves honorably. Allah is Aware of what you do.

235. There is no blame upon you in what you indirectly propose concerning marriage to women, or conceal within yourselves. Allah knows that you will remember them; but do not promise them secretly, except by saying a proper word. Do not resolve upon the marriage contract until the prescribed term reaches its end. Know that Allah knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him; and know that Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.

236. There is no blame upon you if you divorce women whom you have not touched nor specified for them an obligation; but provide for them — a provision according to the means of the wealthy, and according to the means of the poor — a provision in fairness, an obligation upon those who do good.

237. And if you divorce them before you have touched them, but after you have specified for them an obligation, then half of what you specified, unless they forgo it or the one in whose hand is the marriage contract forgoes it; and to forgo is nearer to righteousness. And do not forget graciousness among yourselves; surely Allah is Seeing of what you do.

238. Maintain the prayers, and the middle prayer, and stand devoutly obedient to Allah.

239. And if you fear, then on foot or riding; but when you are secure, remember Allah as He has taught you what you did not know.

240. And those among you who die and leave behind wives — a bequest for their wives: provision for a year without expulsion. But if they leave, there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves honorably; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

241. And for divorced women is a provision in fairness — an obligation upon those mindful of Allah.

242. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses, that you might understand.

243. Have you not considered those who left their homes by the thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them, "Die," then He revived them. Truly, Allah is full of bounty toward humankind, but most people are not grateful.

244. And fight in the way of Allah, and know that Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

245. Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan, so He may multiply it for him manifold? And Allah withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.

246. Have you not considered the assembly of the Children of Israel after Moses, when they said to a prophet of theirs, "Appoint for us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah"? He said, "Would you perhaps refrain from fighting if fighting were prescribed for you?" They said, "And why should we not fight in the way of Allah, when we have been driven out from our homes and our children?" But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few among them; and Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.

247. And their prophet said to them, "Allah has appointed Saul as king over you." They said, "How can he have kingship over us, while we are more entitled to kingship than he, and he has not been given abundance of wealth?" He said, "Allah has chosen him over you and increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature; and Allah grants His sovereignty to whom He wills, and Allah is All-Encompassing, Knowing."

248. And their prophet said to them, "The sign of his kingship is that the Ark will come to you, in which is tranquility from your Lord and a remnant of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron left behind, carried by the angels. In that is a sign for you, if you are believers."

249. Then when Saul set forth with the soldiers, he said, "Allah will surely test you with a river; whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me — except one who takes a handful with his hand." Yet they drank from it, except a few among them. Then when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him, said, "We have no strength today against Goliath and his soldiers." Those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by Allah's permission; and Allah is with the patient."

250. And when they advanced against Goliath and his soldiers, they said, "Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make firm our feet, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people."

251. So they defeated them by Allah's permission, and David killed Goliath; and Allah gave him kingship and wisdom, and taught him of what He willed. And were it not for Allah repelling people, some by means of others, the earth would have become corrupted; but Allah is Possessor of favor toward the worlds.

252. These are the verses of Allah; We recite them to you in truth — and indeed, you are surely among the messengers.

253. Those messengers — We favored some of them over others. Among them were those to whom Allah spoke, and He raised some of them in degrees. And We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs, and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit. Had Allah willed, those after them would not have fought one another after clear proofs had come to them; but they differed — so among them were those who believed, and among them were those who disbelieved. And had Allah willed, they would not have fought one another; but Allah does what He intends.

254. O you who believe, spend from what We have provided you before there comes a Day in which there will be no trade, nor friendship, nor intercession; and the disbelievers — they are the wrongdoers.

255. Allah — there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him; and He is the Most High, the Most Great.

256. There is no compulsion in religion. Right guidance has become distinct from error. So whoever rejects false gods and believes in Allah has grasped the firmest handhold, which never breaks; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

257. Allah is the Protector of those who believe; He brings them out from darkness into light. But those who disbelieve — their protectors are false gods; they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide in it eternally.

258. Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord, because Allah had given him kingship? When Abraham said, "My Lord is the One Who gives life and causes death," he said, "I give life and cause death." Abraham said, "Certainly, Allah brings the sun from the east; so bring it from the west." Thus the disbeliever was confounded; and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

259. Or like the one who passed by a town collapsed upon its roofs; he said, "How will Allah bring this to life after its death?" So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him. He said, "How long have you remained?" He said, "I have remained a day or part of a day." He said, "Rather, you have remained a hundred years. Look at your food and your drink — they have not spoiled; and look at your donkey. And We will make you a sign for the people. And look at the bones — how We raise them and then cover them with flesh." When it became clear to him, he said, "I know that Allah is powerful over all things."

260. And when Abraham said, "My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead," He said, "Have you not believed?" He said, "Yes, but so that my heart may be reassured." He said, "Then take four birds and draw them to you; then place on each mountain a portion of them; then call them — they will come to you swiftly. And know that Allah is Almighty, Wise."

261. The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a grain that sprouts seven ears; in each ear are a hundred grains. Allah multiplies for whom He wills; and Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

262. Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, then do not follow what they have spent with reminders of generosity or harm — they will have their reward with their Lord; no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

263. A kind word and forgiveness are better than charity followed by harm; and Allah is Self-Sufficient, Forbearing.

264. O you who believe, do not invalidate your charities with reminders of generosity or harm, like one who spends his wealth to be seen by people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like a smooth rock upon which is dust, then heavy rain strikes it, leaving it bare. They have no power over anything of what they have earned; and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

265. And the example of those who spend their wealth seeking Allah's pleasure, and out of firmness from themselves, is like a garden on elevated ground; heavy rain strikes it, so it yields its fruit twofold. And if heavy rain does not strike it, then a drizzle; and Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

266. Would one of you wish to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines beneath which rivers flow, having therein all kinds of fruits, while old age has afflicted him and he has weak offspring — then a whirlwind containing fire strikes it, and it is burned? Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses, so that you may reflect.

267. O you who believe, spend from the good things you have earned and from what We have brought forth for you from the earth; and do not aim toward the inferior from it, spending it, while you yourselves would not accept it except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy.

268. Satan promises you poverty and commands you to indecency; but Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

269. He grants wisdom to whom He wills; and whoever is granted wisdom has certainly been given abundant good. But none remember except those of understanding.

270. And whatever expenditure you spend or vow you vow, Allah surely knows it; and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.

271. If you disclose your charities, it is good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you some of your misdeeds. And Allah is fully aware of what you do.

272. Their guidance is not upon you, but Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever good you spend is for yourselves; and you do not spend except seeking the Face of Allah. And whatever good you spend will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged.

273. For the poor who are restricted in the way of Allah, unable to travel in the land — an ignorant person would think them self-sufficient due to their restraint; you recognize them by their marks; they do not ask people persistently. And whatever good you spend, indeed Allah is Knowing of it.

274. Those who spend their wealth by night and by day, secretly and openly — they will have their reward with their Lord; no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

275. Those who consume usury will not stand except as one stands whom Satan has confounded by his touch. That is because they say, "Trade is only like usury," yet Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury. So whoever receives an admonition from his Lord and desists, he shall have what has passed, and his affair rests with Allah; but whoever returns — those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

276. Allah destroys usury and increases charity; and Allah does not love every sinful disbeliever.

277. Truly, those who believe and do righteous deeds, and establish prayer, and give charity — they will have their reward with their Lord; no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

278. O you who believe, fear Allah and give up what remains of usury, if you are believers.

279. But if you do not, then be informed of a war from Allah and His Messenger; yet if you repent, you shall have your principal wealth — neither wronging nor being wronged.

280. And if someone is in hardship, then grant him respite until ease; but if you give charity, it is better for you, if you only knew.

281. And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah; then every soul will be repaid in full for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.

282. O you who believe, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down; and let a scribe write it between you with justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him; so let him write, and let the one upon whom is the obligation dictate, and let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it. But if the one upon whom is the obligation is of limited understanding, or weak, or unable himself to dictate, then let his guardian dictate with justice. And call to witness two witnesses from among your men; and if there are not two men, then one man and two women from among those whom you approve as witnesses, so that if one of the two errs, the other may remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are summoned. And do not be weary of writing it down, whether small or large, until its term; that is more just in the sight of Allah, more upright for testimony, and nearer to preventing doubt — unless it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves, then there is no blame upon you if you do not write it down. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract of sale. Let no scribe or witness be harmed; and if you do so, it is indeed wickedness on your part. And fear Allah; and Allah teaches you; and Allah is Knowing of all things.

283. And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit taken in hand. But if one of you entrusts another, let the one who is entrusted fulfill his trust, and let him fear Allah, his Lord. And do not conceal testimony; whoever conceals it, his heart is indeed sinful. And Allah is Knowing of what you do.

284. To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Whether you reveal what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will hold you accountable for it. Then He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills; and Allah is powerful over all things.

285. The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, as have the believers. All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers: "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey; Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final destination."

286. Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity; for it is what it has earned, and against it is what it has incurred. Our Lord, do not hold us accountable if we forget or err. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no strength to bear; and pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people.
