In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
1. Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ayn. Saad.
2. A mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah.
3. When he called upon his Lord with a private supplication.
4. He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, my hair has flared with gray hair, and never have I been, my Lord, unhappy in my supplication to You.
5. And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren; so grant me from Yourself an heir.
6. Who will inherit from me and from the family of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, pleasing."
7. "O Zechariah, surely We give you glad tidings of a boy whose name is John; We have not assigned to anyone before him the same name."
8. He said, "My Lord, how can I have a boy when my wife has been barren, and I have reached extreme old age?"
9. He said, "Thus it will be; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and certainly I created you before, when you were nothing.'"
10. He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, though sound."
11. So he came out to his people from the sanctuary, and signaled to them to glorify in the morning and in the evening.
12. "O John, take the Scripture with strength." And We gave him judgment while yet a child.
13. And compassion from Us, and purity, and he was devout.
14. And dutiful to his parents; and he was not a tyrant, disobedient.
15. And peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised alive.
16. And mention in the Book Mary, when she withdrew from her family to an eastern place.
17. Then she took a veil apart from them; then We sent to her Our Spirit, and he appeared to her as a well-formed human.
18. She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are reverent."
19. He said, "I am only a messenger of your Lord, to bestow upon you a pure boy."
20. She said, "How can I have a boy when no human has touched me, nor have I been unchaste?"
21. He said, "Thus it will be; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me; and We will make him a sign for the people, and a mercy from Us.' And it is a matter decreed."
22. So she conceived him, and withdrew with him to a remote place.
23. Then the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree; she said, "Oh, would that I had died before this, and had become a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten!"
24. Then he called to her from beneath her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has placed beneath you a stream.
25. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you fresh, ripe dates.
26. So eat, and drink, and comfort your eyes; and if you see any human being, say, 'I have vowed a fast to the Most Merciful, so today I will not speak to any human.'"
27. Then she brought him to her people, carrying him; they said, "O Mary, you have certainly brought an unprecedented thing!
28. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste!"
29. So she pointed to him; they said, "How can we speak to one who is a child in the cradle?"
30. He said, "I am the servant of Allah; He has given me the Scripture, and made me a prophet.
31. And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and has enjoined upon me prayer and charity as long as I live.
32. And dutiful to my mother; and He has not made me tyrannical, wretched.
33. And peace is upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I am raised alive."
34. That is Jesus, son of Mary — the statement of truth about which they dispute.
35. It is not befitting for Allah to take a son; glory be to Him! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.
36. "And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him; this is a straight path."
37. Yet the factions differed among themselves; so woe to those who disbelieve from the scene of a tremendous Day!
38. How clearly will they hear and see on the Day they come to Us. But the wrongdoers today are in manifest error.
39. And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will have been decided; yet they are heedless, and they do not believe.
40. Surely, it is We Who will inherit the earth and whoever is on it, and to Us they will be returned.
41. And mention in the Book Abraham; truly, he was most truthful, a prophet.
42. When he said to his father, "O my father, why do you worship that which neither hears nor sees, nor avails you anything?
43. O my father, there has come to me knowledge that has not come to you; so follow me, I will guide you to an even path.
44. O my father, do not worship Satan; truly, Satan is ever disobedient to the Most Merciful.
45. O my father, truly, I fear that a punishment from the Most Merciful will touch you, and you will become a companion of Satan."
46. He said, "Do you reject my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you; so leave me for a long time."
47. He said, "Peace be upon you; I will seek forgiveness for you from my Lord; truly, He has ever been gracious to me.
48. And I withdraw from you and from what you call upon besides Allah, and I call upon my Lord; perhaps I will not be, by calling upon my Lord, unhappy."
49. So when he withdrew from them and from what they worshiped besides Allah, We granted him Isaac and Jacob; and each We made a prophet.
50. And We bestowed upon them of Our mercy, and granted them a high reputation of truthfulness.
51. And mention in the Book Moses; truly, he was chosen, and he was a messenger, a prophet.
52. And We called him from the right side of the Mount, and drew him near in intimate conversation.
53. And We granted him, out of Our mercy, his brother Aaron as a prophet.
54. And mention in the Book Ishmael; surely, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger, a prophet.
55. And he used to enjoin upon his family prayer and charity, and he was pleasing to his Lord.
56. And mention in the Book Idris; he was a man of truth, a prophet.
57. And We raised him to a high station.
58. Those are the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets — of the descendants of Adam, and of those We carried with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose; when the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell down prostrating and weeping.
59. But there succeeded after them successors who neglected prayer and followed desires; so they will soon meet perdition.
60. Except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds; those will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged in anything.
61. Gardens of Eden, which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen; surely, His promise is ever fulfilled.
62. They will not hear therein any vain speech, but only peace; and they will have their provision therein, morning and evening.
63. That is the Paradise which We will give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were mindful of Allah.
64. And we do not descend except by the command of your Lord; to Him belongs what is before us, and what is behind us, and what is between that; and your Lord is never forgetful.
65. Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them; so worship Him and remain steadfast in His worship. Do you know of any equal to Him?
66. And the human says, "When I have died, shall I truly be brought forth alive?"
67. Does the human not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?
68. So by your Lord, We shall surely gather them and the devils; then We shall surely bring them around Hell, kneeling.
69. Then We shall surely extract from every group those among them most defiant against the Most Merciful.
70. Then, surely, We know best those who are most deserving of burning therein.
71. And there is none among you except that he will come to it; this is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.
72. Then We shall save those who were mindful of Allah, and leave the wrongdoers therein, kneeling.
73. And when Our clear verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of the two groups is better in position and superior in assembly?"
74. And how many generations have We destroyed before them, who were better in possessions and outward appearance?
75. Say, "Whoever is in error, the Most Merciful will extend for him an extension — until, when they see what they were promised, either punishment or the Hour, they will know who is worse in position and weaker in forces."
76. And Allah increases those who are guided in guidance; and the enduring righteous deeds are better with your Lord in reward, and better in return.
77. Then have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said, "I shall surely be given wealth and children"?
78. Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a covenant?
79. No; We shall record what he says, and We shall extend for him from the punishment extensively.
80. And We shall inherit from him what he speaks of, and he will come to Us alone.
81. And they have taken gods other than Allah, that they might be for them a source of honor.
82. No; they will deny their worship of them, and will become opponents against them.
83. Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them greatly?
84. So do not hasten against them; We are only counting out for them a limited number.
85. On the Day We shall gather the mindful of Allah to the Most Merciful as honored guests.
86. And drive the criminals to Hell, thirsty.
87. They will have no power of intercession, except one who has taken from the Most Merciful a covenant.
88. And they say, "The Most Merciful has taken a son."
89. You have certainly brought forth a monstrous thing.
90. The heavens almost rupture from it, and the earth splits open, and the mountains collapse in devastation.
91. That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.
92. And it is not befitting for the Most Merciful to take a son.
93. There is none in the heavens and the earth except that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.
94. He has enumerated them and counted them precisely.
95. And each of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.
96. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds, the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.
97. So We have only made it easy upon your tongue, that you may give glad tidings thereby to the mindful of Allah, and warn thereby a contentious people.
98. And how many generations have We destroyed before them — do you perceive from them anyone, or hear from them even a whisper?
