In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem. Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

2. Allah is He Who raised the heavens without pillars that you see; then He established Himself on the Throne, and subjected the sun and the moon — each running for an appointed term. He arranges the matter; He details the signs, so that you may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

3. And He is the One Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers; and from every kind of fruit He made therein pairs, two by two. He covers the night with the day; certainly, in that are signs for a people who reflect.

4. And on the earth are neighboring tracts, and gardens of grapevines, and crops, and date-palms — growing from a single root and others not from a single root — watered with one water; yet We favor some of them over others in taste. Certainly, in that are signs for a people who understand.

5. And if you wonder, then wondrous is their saying: "When we have become dust, shall we indeed be created anew?" Those are the ones who disbelieve in their Lord; and those will have shackles upon their necks; and those are the companions of the Fire — they will abide therein eternally.

6. And they urge you to hasten evil before good, though examples have already passed before them. Yet your Lord is surely full of forgiveness toward the people despite their wrongdoing; and indeed, your Lord is severe in punishment.

7. And those who disbelieve say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner; and for every people is a guide.

8. Allah knows what every female carries, and what the wombs lose prematurely or exceed; and everything with Him is by due measure.

9. Knower of the unseen and the witnessed — the Great, the Exalted.

10. It is the same among you whether one conceals speech or proclaims it openly, and whether one hides by night or goes forth openly by day.

11. For each one are successive angels before him and behind him, guarding him by Allah's command. Certainly, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves; and when Allah intends harm for a people, there is no repelling it, nor do they have any protector apart from Him.

12. He is the One Who shows you lightning, causing fear and hope, and Who produces the heavy clouds.

13. And the thunder glorifies His praise, as do the angels out of awe of Him; and He sends thunderbolts, striking with them whom He wills — yet they dispute concerning Allah, while He is severe in might.

14. To Him belongs the call of truth; and those whom they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with anything, except as one who stretches forth his hands toward water that it may reach his mouth — but it will never reach him; and the supplication of the disbelievers is only in vain.

15. And to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and their shadows in the mornings and the evenings.

16. Say, "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say, "Allah." Say, "Have you then taken protectors besides Him, who possess neither benefit nor harm even for themselves?" Say, "Are the blind and the seeing equal? Or are darkness and light equal? Or have they attributed to Allah partners who created as He created, so that creation seemed alike to them?" Say, "Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing."

17. He sent down water from the sky, and valleys flowed according to their measure, and the torrent carried rising foam; and from what they heat in the fire, seeking to make ornaments or utensils, there arises a foam like it. Thus Allah presents truth and falsehood: as for the foam, it vanishes as scum; but as for what benefits people, it remains on the earth. Thus Allah presents examples.

18. For those who respond to their Lord is the best; but those who do not respond to Him — if they had all that is on earth and the like of it with it, they would surely offer it as ransom. Those will have the worst reckoning, and their refuge is Hell; and wretched is the resting place.

19. Is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? Only those of understanding take heed.

20. Those who fulfill the covenant of Allah and do not break the covenant.

21. And those who join what Allah has commanded to be joined, and fear their Lord, and dread the evil reckoning.

22. And those who patiently endure, seeking the countenance of their Lord, and establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided them secretly and openly, and repel evil with good — those will have the ultimate abode.

23. Gardens of Eden, which they will enter along with whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses, and their descendants; and the angels will enter upon them from every gate.

24. "Peace be upon you for your patience." Excellent indeed is the ultimate abode.

25. But those who break the covenant of Allah after its binding, and sever what Allah has commanded to be joined, and spread corruption on earth — for them is the curse, and theirs is the worst abode.

26. Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it; yet they rejoice in the life of this world — but the life of this world, compared to the Hereafter, is nothing but enjoyment.

27. Those who disbelieve say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Allah leads astray whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns back."

28. Those who believe, and whose hearts find tranquility in the remembrance of Allah — truly, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find tranquility.

29. Those who believe and do righteous deeds — for them is blessedness and a beautiful place of return.

30. Thus have We sent you to a community before which other communities have passed away, so that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you; yet they disbelieve in the Most Merciful. Say, "He is my Lord; there is no god except Him. Upon Him I rely, and to Him is my return."

31. Even if there were a Quran by which mountains were moved, or the earth was split apart, or the dead were spoken to — rather, to Allah belongs the command entirely. Have not those who believe despaired that if Allah had willed, He would have guided all mankind? And those who disbelieve will continue to be struck by calamity for what they have done, or it will descend near their homes, until the promise of Allah comes. Truly, Allah does not break the promise.

32. Certainly, messengers before you were mocked; so I granted respite to those who disbelieved, then I seized them — and how was My punishment!

33. Is He Who stands watchful over every soul for what it has earned — yet they ascribe partners to Allah? Say, "Name them! Or do you inform Him of something He does not know on earth, or is it mere outward speech?" Rather, their plotting has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they have been hindered from the path. And whomever Allah leads astray, for him there is no guide.

34. For them is punishment in the life of this world; and surely, the punishment of the Hereafter is harsher. And they have no protector against Allah.

35. The likeness of the Paradise promised to those mindful of Allah: rivers flow beneath it; its produce is everlasting, as is its shade. That is the ultimate end of those who are reverent; and the ultimate end of the disbelievers is the Fire.

36. And those to whom We have given the Scripture rejoice in what has been revealed to you; yet among the parties are those who deny part of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allah and not associate anything with Him. To Him I call, and to Him is my return."

37. And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic code of law; and if you were to follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you would have neither protector nor defender against Allah.

38. And certainly We sent messengers before you, and appointed for them spouses and offspring; and it was not for any messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's permission. For every term is a decree.

39. Allah erases what He wills and confirms; and with Him is the Mother of the Book.

40. And whether We show you part of what We promise them, or take you in death, upon you is only the conveyance, and upon Us is the reckoning.

41. Have they not seen that We come to the earth, reducing it from its edges? And Allah judges; none can reverse His judgment, and He is swift in reckoning.

42. And those before them had plotted; but all plotting belongs to Allah. He knows what every soul earns; and the disbelievers will know for whom is the ultimate abode.

43. And those who disbelieve say, "You are not a messenger." Say, "Allah is sufficient as witness between me and you, as well as whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."
