In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. I swear by this city.

2. And you are lawful in this city.

3. And by the parent and what he begets.

4. Certainly, We created the human being in hardship.

5. Does he think no one has power over him?

6. He boasts, "I have spent great wealth."

7. Does he think no one sees him?

8. Did We not give him two eyes?

9. And a tongue, and two lips?

10. And shown him the two ways?

11. Yet he has not attempted the steep climb.

12. And what can make you understand what the steep climb is?

13. It is freeing a slave.

14. Or feeding someone on a day of severe hunger.

15. An orphan who is a close relative.

16. Or a poor person lying in the dust.

17. Then being among those who believe, who urge one another to patience, and urge one another to compassion.

18. These are the people of the right.

19. But those who reject Our revelations — they are the people of the left.

20. Over them will be a Fire sealed shut.
