In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. I swear by the Day of Resurrection.

2. And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.

3. Does the human being think We will never reassemble his bones?

4. Certainly, We are able even to restore his fingertips perfectly.

5. Yet man desires to keep on sinning.

6. He mockingly asks, "When will this Day of Resurrection come?"

7. But when the eyes are dazzled.

8. And the moon darkens.

9. And the sun and moon are joined together.

10. On that Day, the human being will cry out, "Where can I escape?"

11. No! There will be no refuge.

12. On that Day, the final destination will be with your Lord alone.

13. On that Day, the human being will be informed of all he sent ahead and all he left behind.

14. Truly, the human being will bear witness against himself.

15. Even if he offers every excuse imaginable.

16. Do not rush your tongue to hasten its recitation.

17. It is upon Us to collect it and to make it recited.

18. So when We recite it, follow closely its recitation.

19. Then it is upon Us to make its meaning clear.

20. Yet no! You love this fleeting world.

21. And neglect the Hereafter.

22. On that Day, some faces will be radiant.

23. Gazing toward their Lord.

24. And other faces, on that Day, will be gloomy.

25. Expecting a devastating calamity to befall them.

26. No! When the soul reaches the collarbones.

27. And it is said, "Who can heal him now?"

28. And he realizes it is the moment of parting.

29. And the leg is wrapped around the leg.

30. On that Day, the journey will be toward your Lord alone.

31. Yet he neither believed nor prayed.

32. Rather, he denied the truth and turned away.

33. Then he went back to his family, swaggering arrogantly.

34. Woe to you, yes, woe!

35. Again, woe to you, yes, woe!

36. Does the human being think he will be left without purpose?

37. Was he not once a mere drop of emitted fluid?

38. Then he became a clinging clot, then He shaped and perfected.

39. And from him made the two sexes, male and female.

40. Is not such a Creator fully capable of bringing the dead back to life?
