In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Alif. Lam. Meem. Saad.

2. This is a Book sent down to you — let there be no unease in your heart about it — so that you may warn by it, and as a reminder for the believers.

3. Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord, and do not follow other guardians besides Him. How seldom you take heed!

4. How many towns have We destroyed! Our punishment came upon them by night, or while they rested at midday.

5. Their only cry, when Our punishment overtook them, was to say, "Truly, we were wrongdoers!"

6. We will surely question those to whom messengers were sent, and We will surely question the messengers themselves.

7. Then, with full knowledge, We will recount everything to them — for We were never absent.

8. On that Day, the weighing will be true and just. Those whose scales are heavy — they are the successful ones.

9. But those whose scales are light — they are the ones who have lost themselves, because they wrongfully rejected Our revelations.

10. We have certainly established you firmly on the earth, and provided you with means of livelihood — yet how seldom you are grateful!

11. Certainly, We created you, then shaped you, then said to the angels, "Bow down before Adam." So they bowed down — all except Iblis; he was not among those who bowed.

12. Allah said, "What prevented you from bowing when I commanded you?" He replied, "I am better than him; You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."

13. Allah said, "Then descend from here! It is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out — you are truly among the disgraced."

14. He said, "Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected."

15. Allah said, "You are among those granted respite."

16. He said, "Because You have led me astray, I will surely lie in wait for them on Your straight path.

17. Then I will approach them from before them, and behind them, from their right, and from their left — and You will find most of them ungrateful."

18. Allah said, "Get out from here, disgraced and rejected! Whoever among them follows you, I will surely fill Hellfire with you all."

19. "O Adam, dwell in Paradise — you and your wife — and eat freely from wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, or you will both become wrongdoers."

20. But Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them what was hidden from them of their nakedness. He said, "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, so that you would not become angels or live forever."

21. And he swore to them, "Truly, I am a sincere advisor to you both."

22. So he lured them with deception. When they tasted from the tree, their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise. Their Lord called out to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is clearly your enemy?"

23. They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers."

24. Allah said, "Descend! You will be enemies to one another. On earth, you will have a dwelling place, and provision for a time."

25. He said, "There you will live, there you will die, and from there you will be brought forth."

26. O children of Adam, We have provided you clothing to cover your nakedness, and as adornment — but the garment of righteousness is best. These are among Allah's signs, so that they may reflect.

27. O children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you, as he expelled your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing, to expose their nakedness. He and his kind see you from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils allies of those who refuse to believe.

28. When they commit shameful deeds, they say, "We found our ancestors doing this, and Allah commanded us to do it." Say, "Allah never commands shameful acts. Do you attribute to Allah what you do not know?"

29. Say, "My Lord commands justice. Direct your faces at every place of worship, and call upon Him, sincere in your devotion. Just as He created you, so you will return."

30. Some He has guided, while others have deserved misguidance. They have taken devils as allies instead of Allah, yet they think they are rightly guided.

31. O children of Adam, take your adornment at every place of worship. Eat and drink, but do not be excessive — He does not love those who are wasteful.

32. Say, "Who has forbidden the beauty that Allah has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during this worldly life, and exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." Thus We clearly explain Our revelations for people who understand.

33. Say, "My Lord has only forbidden shameful deeds — both open and hidden — sinfulness, unjust aggression, associating with Allah anything for which He has sent down no authority, and saying about Allah what you do not know."

34. For every community there is an appointed term. When their term arrives, they cannot delay it by a single moment, nor can they hasten it.

35. O children of Adam, whenever messengers from among you come to recite My revelations to you, whoever is mindful of Allah and reforms — they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.

36. But those who reject Our revelations and arrogantly turn away from them — they are the people of the Fire, where they will remain forever.

37. Who could be more unjust than those who invent lies about Allah, or deny His revelations? They will receive their destined portion, until Our messengers come to take their souls, asking, "Where are those you used to call upon besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have abandoned us," and they will testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.

38. He will say, "Enter the Fire, along with the communities of jinn and humans who passed away before you." Each group that enters will curse the one before it, until all are gathered inside. Then the last will say about the first, "Our Lord, these are the ones who led us astray — give them double punishment in the Fire." He will reply, "Each will have double, though you do not realize it."

39. Then the first group will say to the last, "You were no better than us, so taste the punishment for what you earned."

40. Certainly, those who reject Our revelations, and arrogantly turn away from them — the gates of heaven will never open for them, nor will they enter Paradise, until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. This is how We repay the guilty.

41. Hell will be their bed, and coverings of fire will envelop them from above. This is how We repay the wrongdoers.

42. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds — We never burden any soul beyond its capacity — they are the people of Paradise, and there they will remain forever.

43. We will remove all resentment from their hearts. Rivers will flow beneath them, and they will say, "Praise be to Allah, Who guided us to this. We would never have found guidance, if Allah had not guided us. Truly, the messengers of our Lord came with the truth." Then a voice will call out to them, "This is the Paradise you have inherited, because of what you used to do."

44. The people of Paradise will call out to the people of the Fire, "We have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you also found what your Lord promised to be true?" They will reply, "Yes." Then a caller will announce between them, that Allah's curse is upon the wrongdoers.

45. Those who turned others away from Allah's path, sought to make it crooked, and denied the Hereafter.

46. Between them will be a barrier, and on the heights will be people who recognize each group by their marks. They will call out to the people of Paradise, "Peace be upon you!" They themselves have not yet entered it, though they long to do so.

47. And when their eyes turn toward the people of the Fire, they will say, "Our Lord, do not place us among the wrongdoing people."

48. Those on the heights will call out to certain people whom they recognize by their marks, saying, "Your gathering and your arrogance have not helped you at all.

49. Are these the ones you swore Allah would never bless with mercy? Enter Paradise — you will have no fear, nor will you grieve."

50. The people of the Fire will call out to the people of Paradise, "Pour down upon us some water, or something from what Allah has provided you!" They will reply, "Allah has forbidden both to those who rejected the truth."

51. Those who treated their religion as mere amusement and play, and whom the worldly life deceived — today We will forget them, just as they forgot their meeting on this Day, and because they used to deny Our revelations.

52. Certainly, We brought them a Book, clearly explained with knowledge — as guidance and mercy for people who believe.

53. Are they waiting for anything but its fulfillment? On the Day its fulfillment comes, those who previously ignored it will say, "The messengers of our Lord truly came with the truth. Are there any intercessors who can plead for us now? Or can we be sent back, so we may act differently from how we used to?" They have truly lost themselves, and all they invented has abandoned them.

54. Surely, your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne. He covers the day with the night, swiftly pursuing it. The sun, the moon, and the stars — all are subjected to His command. Truly, creation and command belong to Him alone. Blessed is Allah, Lord of all the worlds.

55. Call upon your Lord humbly and privately. He does not love those who transgress.

56. And do not spread corruption on earth, after it has been set right. Call upon Him with fear and hope. Surely, Allah's mercy is ever near to those who do good.

57. He is the One Who sends the winds, as glad tidings ahead of His mercy. When they carry heavy clouds, We drive them to a lifeless land, sending down water upon it, bringing forth every kind of fruit. In this same way, We will bring forth the dead, so that you may reflect.

58. Good land yields its vegetation by the permission of its Lord, while poor land produces only with hardship. Thus, We explain the signs for people who are grateful.

59. Certainly, We sent Noah to his people. He said, "My people, worship Allah alone — you have no god besides Him. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."

60. But the leaders among his people said, "We clearly see that you are lost in error."

61. He replied, "My people, there is no error in me. Rather, I am a messenger from the Lord of all worlds.

62. I convey to you the messages of my Lord, offer you sincere advice, and I know from Allah what you do not know.

63. Do you find it astonishing that a reminder from your Lord has come to you, through a man from among yourselves, to warn you, so that you may become mindful of Allah, and perhaps receive mercy?"

64. Yet they rejected him. So We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and drowned those who denied Our signs. Truly, they were a blind people.

65. And to the people of Aad, We sent their brother Hud. He said, "My people, worship Allah alone — you have no god besides Him. Will you not then be mindful of Him?"

66. But the disbelieving leaders among his people said, "We clearly see you as foolish, and we think you are lying."

67. He replied, "My people, there is no foolishness in me. Rather, I am a messenger from the Lord of all worlds.

68. I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am your sincere and trustworthy adviser.

69. Do you find it astonishing, that a reminder from your Lord has come to you, through a man from among yourselves, to warn you? Remember how He made you successors after Noah's people, and increased you in strength and stature. Remember Allah's favors, so that you may succeed."

70. They said, "Have you come to us so that we worship Allah alone, and abandon what our forefathers worshiped? Then bring upon us what you threaten, if you are truthful."

71. He said, "Defilement and wrath from your Lord have already fallen upon you. Do you argue with me about mere names, that you and your forefathers invented, for which Allah has revealed no authority? Then wait — I too am waiting with you."

72. So We saved him and those with him by Our mercy, and completely uprooted those who denied Our signs. They were never believers.

73. And to Thamud, We sent their brother Salih. He said, "My people, worship Allah alone — you have no god besides Him. A clear sign has come to you from your Lord: this is Allah's she-camel, a sign for you. Let her graze freely on Allah's earth, and do not harm her, or a painful punishment will seize you."

74. "Remember how He made you successors after the people of Aad, settling you in the land — you build palaces on its plains, and carve homes out of the mountains. So remember Allah's blessings, and do not spread corruption on earth."

75. But the arrogant leaders among his people said to those who were oppressed — to those who believed among them — "Do you really think Salih is sent by his Lord?" They replied, "We truly believe in the message he was sent with."

76. The arrogant ones said, "We disbelieve in what you have believed in."

77. Then they slaughtered the she-camel, defied their Lord's command, and said, "Salih, bring upon us the punishment you threaten, if you truly are a messenger."

78. So the earthquake seized them, and by morning they lay lifeless in their homes.

79. Salih turned away from them, saying, "My people, I delivered my Lord's message to you, and sincerely advised you — but you do not like sincere advisors."

80. And remember Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit such shameful acts as no one in the world has done before you?"

81. "You approach men with lust instead of women. Truly, you are a people who cross all limits."

82. But his people's only response was to say, "Drive them out of your town — they are people who keep themselves pure!"

83. So We saved him and his family, except for his wife — she was among those who stayed behind.

84. And We poured down upon them a rain. See how the end of the criminals was!

85. And to Midian We sent their brother Shuayb. He said, "My people, worship Allah alone — you have no god besides Him. Clear proof has come to you from your Lord. So give full measure and weight, and do not cheat people out of their rights. Do not spread corruption on earth after it has been set right. This is best for you, if you truly believe."

86. "Do not sit on every road, threatening and turning away from Allah's path those who believe in Him, seeking to make it crooked. Remember when you were few, and He multiplied you. Consider carefully the fate of those who spread corruption."

87. "If some among you believe in the message I bring, while others do not, then be patient until Allah judges between us. He is the best of judges."

88. The arrogant leaders among his people said, "Shuayb, we will surely drive you and those who believe with you out of our town, unless you return to our religion." He replied, "Even if we detest it?"

89. "We would be inventing lies against Allah, if we returned to your religion, after Allah has saved us from it. It is not for us to return to it, unless Allah, our Lord, wills. Our Lord encompasses all things in His knowledge. In Allah alone we place our trust. Our Lord, judge between us and our people with truth, for You are the best of judges."

90. The disbelieving leaders among his people said, "If you follow Shuayb, you will surely become losers."

91. Then the earthquake seized them, and by morning they lay lifeless in their homes.

92. Those who rejected Shuayb — it was as if they had never prospered there. Those who rejected Shuayb were themselves the true losers.

93. So he turned away from them, saying, "My people, I have certainly delivered my Lord's messages to you, and sincerely advised you. How could I grieve over people who refuse to believe?"

94. Whenever We sent a prophet to a town, We afflicted its people with hardship and suffering, so they might humble themselves.

95. Then We replaced hardship with ease, until they flourished, and said, "Our ancestors also experienced hardship and prosperity." So We seized them suddenly, without their realizing it.

96. If only the people of these towns had believed and been mindful of Allah, We would have opened for them blessings from heaven and earth. But they rejected the truth, so We seized them for what they had earned.

97. Do the people of these towns feel secure, that Our punishment will not come upon them by night, while they sleep?

98. Or do the people of these towns feel secure, that Our punishment will not come upon them in broad daylight, while they amuse themselves?

99. Do they feel secure against Allah's plan? No one feels secure against Allah's plan, except the losing people.

100. Did it not serve as guidance to those who inherited the land after its previous inhabitants, that if We wished, We could punish them for their sins, and seal their hearts, so they do not hear?

101. These are the towns whose stories We relate to you. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, yet they would not believe in what they had already rejected before. This is how Allah seals the hearts of those who deny the truth.

102. We found most of them true to no promise; rather, We found most of them defiantly disobedient.

103. Then, after them, We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they did injustice with them. See then how severe was the end of those who spread corruption.

104. Moses said, "Pharaoh, I am truly a messenger from the Lord of all worlds.

105. It is not for me to say anything about Allah, except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with me."

106. Pharaoh replied, "If you have truly brought a sign, then show it, if you are truthful."

107. So Moses threw down his staff, and suddenly it became a clear serpent.

108. And he drew out his hand, and it became white to the onlookers.

109. The chiefs among Pharaoh's people said, "This man is surely a skilled magician.

110. He wants to drive you out of your land, so what do you command?"

111. They said, "Delay him and his brother, and send gatherers to all the cities.

112. To bring you every skilled magician."

113. The magicians came to Pharaoh and said, "Will we have a reward, if we are victorious?"

114. Pharaoh answered, "Yes, and you will surely be among those closest to me."

115. They said, "Moses, will you throw first, or shall we?"

116. He said, "You throw first." And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes, struck them with awe, and performed a mighty act of magic.

117. And We inspired Moses, "Throw down your staff." And suddenly, it swallowed up what they fabricated.

118. Thus, the truth prevailed, and what they were doing was nullified.

119. They were utterly defeated there, and left humiliated.

120. And the magicians fell down in prostration.

121. They declared, "We believe in the Lord of all creation.

122. The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

123. Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I give you permission? Surely, this is a plot you have devised in the city, to drive out its people. Soon you will see!

124. I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, then crucify you all!"

125. They replied, "We will surely return to our Lord.

126. You resent us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and let us die submitting to You."

127. The chiefs among Pharaoh's people said, "Will you leave Moses and his people free to spread corruption in the land, and leave you and your gods?" Pharaoh replied, "We will slaughter their sons, and spare their women. We have absolute power over them."

128. Moses said to his people, "Seek help from Allah, and remain patient. The earth belongs to Allah; He grants it to whichever of His servants He wills. And the final victory belongs to those mindful of Allah."

129. They said, "We suffered persecution before you came to us, and even after you arrived." Moses replied, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy, and grant you succession in the land, then He will see how you act."

130. We afflicted Pharaoh's people with years of famine and shortages of crops, so they might reflect and remember.

131. Yet whenever good fortune came their way, they would say, "This is our due." But if hardship struck them, they blamed Moses and those with him as a bad omen. Truly, their misfortune was decreed by Allah alone, but most of them did not realize it.

132. They said, "No matter what sign you bring to enchant us, we will never believe in you."

133. So We sent upon them floods, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood — distinct signs — but they remained arrogant, for they were a sinful people.

134. Whenever punishment fell upon them, they pleaded, "Moses, pray to your Lord for us, by the promise He made to you. If you remove this torment from us, we will surely believe in you, and let the Children of Israel go with you."

135. Yet when We lifted the punishment from them until an appointed time they were bound to reach, they immediately broke their promise.

136. So We took vengeance upon them, drowning them in the sea, because they rejected Our signs, and paid no heed to them.

137. And We made the oppressed people inherit the eastern and western lands that We had blessed. Thus, the good promise of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their patience. And We utterly destroyed all that Pharaoh and his people had built, and all they had raised high.

138. We brought the Children of Israel safely across the sea, and they came upon a people devoted to idols of their own. They said, "Moses, make for us a god, like the gods they have." He replied, "You are truly an ignorant people."

139. "What these people follow is doomed to destruction, and all their deeds are worthless."

140. He continued, "Should I seek for you a god other than Allah, when He has favored you above all other peoples?"

141. Remember when We saved you from Pharaoh's people, who subjected you to terrible torment — killing your sons and sparing your women. In that was a great trial from your Lord.

142. And We appointed for Moses thirty nights, then completed them with ten more — thus the term set by his Lord was fulfilled in forty nights. Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place among my people, do what is right, and do not follow the path of those who spread corruption."

143. When Moses came at Our appointed time, and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show Yourself to me, so I may look upon You." He replied, "You cannot see Me, but look at the mountain — if it remains firm in its place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord revealed Himself to the mountain, He caused it to crumble to dust, and Moses fell unconscious. When he recovered, he said, "Glory be to You! I turn to You in repentance, and I am the first of the believers."

144. He said, "O Moses, I have chosen you above all people by My messages and My words. So take what I have given you, and be among the grateful."

145. And We wrote for him on the tablets advice concerning all things, clearly explaining everything. "Hold firmly to these teachings, and command your people to follow the best of them. Soon I will show you the home of the disobedient."

146. I will turn away from My signs those who arrogantly behave on earth without right. Even if they see every sign, they will not believe in it. If they see the path of guidance, they will not take it; but if they see the path of error, they will eagerly follow it. That is because they rejected Our signs, and paid no attention to them.

147. Those who deny Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter — their deeds will come to nothing. Will they be repaid except according to what they used to do?

148. In Moses' absence, his people shaped from their jewelry a calf — a body that made a lowing sound. Did they not see that it neither spoke to them, nor guided them to any path? Yet they took it for worship, and thus became wrongdoers.

149. When they realized their grave mistake, and saw how deeply they had strayed, they cried out, "If our Lord does not have mercy on us, and forgive us, we will surely be among the losers!"

150. When Moses returned to his people, furious and deeply grieved, he said, "What a terrible thing you have done in my absence! Did you rush ahead of your Lord's command?" He threw down the tablets, and seized his brother by the head, pulling him toward himself. Aaron pleaded, "Son of my mother, the people overpowered me and nearly killed me. Do not let our enemies rejoice over my suffering, nor count me among the wrongdoers."

151. Moses prayed, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother, and admit us into Your mercy — for You are the Most Merciful of all who show mercy."

152. Those who worshiped the calf will surely face their Lord's anger and humiliation in this worldly life. This is how We repay those who invent falsehood.

153. But as for those who commit evil deeds, then afterward repent and truly believe — your Lord, after this, is surely Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

154. When Moses' anger subsided, he picked up the tablets. Inscribed upon them was guidance and mercy for those who stand in awe of their Lord.

155. Moses chose seventy men from his people for Our appointed meeting. But when the earthquake seized them, he cried out, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them and me long before this. Will You destroy us now because of what the foolish among us have done? This is only Your test — by it You let stray whom You will, and guide whom You will. You alone are our Protector, so forgive us, and have mercy on us — for You are the best of all who forgive."

156. "And decree for us goodness in this world, and in the Hereafter, for we have returned to You." Allah replied, "My punishment — I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things. I will decree it for those who are mindful of Me, who give charity, and who truly believe in Our revelations."

157. Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find described in the Torah and the Gospel — he commands them to do good, and forbids them from evil, and makes lawful for them the good things, and forbids for them the bad things, and relieves them of their burdens and the chains that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honor him, support him, and follow the light sent down with him — they are the truly successful.

158. Say, "O people, I am the Messenger of Allah to all of you, to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no god but Him; He gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him, so that you may be rightly guided."

159. Among the people of Moses, is a community who guide others by the truth, and act justly according to it.

160. We divided them into twelve tribes, distinct communities. And when his people asked Moses for water, We inspired him, "Strike the rock with your staff." Twelve springs gushed forth from it, and each tribe knew its drinking place. We shaded them with clouds, and sent down manna and quails for them, saying, "Eat from the good things We have provided you." They did not wrong Us, but they wronged themselves.

161. And when it was said to them, "Settle in this town, and eat freely from wherever you wish. Say, 'Forgiveness,' and enter the gate bowing; We will forgive your sins, and increase the reward of those who do good."

162. But the wrongdoers among them changed the words they were told to say. So We sent down upon them a punishment from heaven, because of their wrongdoing.

163. Ask them about the town by the sea, whose people broke the Sabbath. On their Sabbath day, fish would openly come to them, but on other days, none appeared. This is how We tested them, because of their persistent disobedience.

164. When a group among them said, "Why do you advise people whom Allah will surely destroy or punish severely?" They replied, "As an excuse before your Lord, and perhaps they may become mindful of Him."

165. But when they forgot what they were reminded of, We saved those who forbade evil, and seized the wrongdoers with a dreadful punishment, for their rebelliousness.

166. When they arrogantly persisted in doing what they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, outcast!"

167. And remember when your Lord declared, that He would surely send against them, until the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with terrible torment. Truly, your Lord is swift in punishment, yet He is also Forgiving, Merciful.

168. We scattered them across the earth, as separate communities — some among them righteous, and others less so — and We tested them with good and bad, so that they might return to the right path.

169. Then after them came successors, who inherited the Scripture, yet chose the fleeting gains of this lower world, saying, "We will be forgiven." And if similar gains came their way again, they would eagerly take them. Was not the covenant of the Scripture taken from them, that they would speak nothing but the truth about Allah? And they studied what was in it. The home of the Hereafter is far better for those who are mindful of Allah. Will you not then understand?

170. As for those who hold firmly to the Scripture, and establish prayer — We do not let the reward of the reformers go to waste.

171. And remember when We raised the mountain above them, as if it were a covering, and they thought it would fall upon them. We said, "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and remember what is in it, so that you may become mindful of Allah."

172. And remember when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam — from their very loins — their descendants, and made them bear witness against themselves, saying, "Am I not your Lord?" They replied, "Yes, we bear witness." Lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "We were unaware of this."

173. Or say, "It was our forefathers who worshiped others besides Allah before us, and we were merely their descendants after them. Will You then destroy us for what those who engaged in falsehood did?"

174. This is how We clearly explain the signs, so that they may return.

175. Recite to them the story of the one to whom We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them. So Satan pursued him, and he became one of those who went astray.

176. Had We willed, We could have elevated him through these signs, but he clung to the earth, and followed his own desires. His example is like that of a dog: if you chase it, it pants, and if you leave it alone, it still pants. Such is the example of those who deny Our signs. So narrate these stories, so that they may reflect.

177. How terrible is the example of those who deny Our signs — they wrong only themselves.

178. Whomever Allah guides, is truly guided, and whomever He leads astray, then those are the losers.

179. Certainly, We have created many among the jinn and humans for Hell. They have hearts with which they do not understand, eyes with which they do not see, and ears with which they do not hear. They are like cattle — no, even more misguided. They are the truly heedless.

180. To Allah belong the most beautiful names, so call upon Him by them, and leave those who distort His names. They will soon be repaid for what they have done.

181. Among those We created, is a community who guides others with truth, and establishes justice accordingly.

182. Those who reject Our signs — We will gradually draw them into ruin from directions they cannot perceive.

183. I grant them respite, for My plan is firm and sure.

184. Have they not reflected? Their companion is not mad; he is only a clear warner.

185. Have they not considered the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and everything Allah has created, and that perhaps their appointed time is drawing near? Then in what message after this will they believe?

186. Whomever Allah allows to stray, no one can guide; He leaves them wandering blindly in their rebellion.

187. They ask you about the Hour: "When will it arrive?" Say, "Its knowledge rests only with my Lord. None but He can reveal its time. It weighs heavily upon the heavens and the earth, and it will come upon you suddenly." They question you, as if you had special knowledge of it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most people do not realize."

188. Say, "I have no power to benefit or harm myself, except as Allah wills. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I would have gathered much good, and no harm would have touched me. I am only a warner and bearer of good news for people who believe."

189. He is the One Who created you from a single soul, and from it made its mate, so that he may find tranquility with her. When he covered her, she conceives a light burden, and she went about with it. But when it grows heavy, they both pray to Allah, their Lord, "If You grant us a good child, we will surely be among the grateful."

190. Yet when He grants them a good child, they attribute partners to Him in what He has given them. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him!

191. Do they associate with Him those who create nothing, but are themselves created?

192. They cannot help them, nor can they even help themselves.

193. If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It makes no difference whether you call them, or remain silent.

194. Those you call upon besides Allah are servants just like yourselves. So call upon them, and let them answer you, if you are truthful.

195. Do they have feet to walk with? Or hands to grasp with? Or eyes to see with? Or ears to hear with? Say, "Call upon your partners, then plot against me without delay."

196. Truly, my protector is Allah, Who revealed the Scripture, and He protects the righteous.

197. Those you call upon besides Him cannot help you, nor can they even help themselves.

198. If you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; you see them looking at you, yet they do not truly see.

199. Be forgiving, encourage what is right, and turn away from the ignorant.

200. If Satan ever tempts you, seek refuge in Allah — He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

201. Those who are mindful of Allah, when touched by a whisper from Satan, remember Him — and immediately they see clearly.

202. But their brothers plunge them deeper into error, never letting up.

203. When you do not bring them a miracle, they say, "Why don't you choose one yourself?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This is clear insight from your Lord, guidance and mercy for people who believe."

204. When the Quran is recited, listen attentively and remain silent, so that you may receive mercy.

205. Remember your Lord inwardly, with humility and reverence, quietly, morning and evening — and do not be among the heedless.

206. Those who are near your Lord, never turn away in pride from worshiping Him; they glorify Him, and bow down before Him.
