In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. O Prophet, why do you forbid yourself what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking to please your wives? Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

2. Allah has already ordained for you the way to release yourselves from your oaths. Allah is your Protector, and He is the All-Knowing, the Wise.

3. When the Prophet confided something privately to one of his wives, and she disclosed it, and Allah made it known to him, he confirmed part of it and overlooked part. When he informed her about it, she asked, "Who told you this?" He replied, "The All-Knowing, the Fully Aware informed me."

4. If you both turn to Allah in repentance, your hearts have indeed deviated. But if you support one another against him, then surely Allah is his Protector, as well as Gabriel, the righteous believers, and beyond them, the angels stand ready to support him.

5. Perhaps, if he divorced you, his Lord would grant him wives better than you — women who submit to Allah, faithful, devoted, repentant, worshipful, travelers — previously married or virgins.

6. O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, guarded by stern, powerful angels who never disobey Allah's commands and always carry out what they are ordered.

7. O you who disbelieve, make no excuses today. You are only being repaid for what you used to do.

8. O you who believe, turn to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove your sins, and admit you into Gardens beneath which rivers flow — on a Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will shine ahead of them and on their right, and they will say, "Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive us. Truly, You have power over all things."

9. O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be firm with them. Their home is Hell — what a miserable destination!

10. Allah presents an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were married to two of Our righteous servants, yet they betrayed them. Their husbands could not help them at all against Allah, and it was said, "Enter the Fire along with those who enter."

11. And Allah presents an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh, who said, "My Lord, build for me a home near You in Paradise, save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people."

12. And Mary, daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our spirit. She believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and was among the devout.
