In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. When the hypocrites come to you, they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah." Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are surely lying.

2. They use their oaths as a shield, turning others away from Allah's path. How evil is what they do!

3. That is because they believed, then rejected faith, so their hearts were sealed, and now they understand nothing.

4. When you see them, their appearance impresses you, and when they speak, you listen to their words. Yet they are like propped-up pieces of wood. They think every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah condemn them! How deluded they are!

5. When it is said to them, "Come, let the Messenger of Allah ask forgiveness for you," they turn their heads away, and you see them arrogantly turning aside.

6. It makes no difference whether you ask forgiveness for them or not — Allah will never forgive them. Allah does not guide those who defiantly disobey.

7. They are the ones who say, "Do not spend on those who are with Allah's Messenger, so that they will abandon him." Yet to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.

8. They say, "If we return to the city, the honorable will surely drive out the lowly." Yet honor belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers — but the hypocrites do not realize it.

9. O you who believe, do not let your wealth or your children distract you from remembering Allah. Whoever does so — they are the true losers.

10. Give from what We have provided you before death comes to one of you, and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a short while, so I could give charity and be among the righteous."

11. But Allah will never delay a soul when its appointed time arrives. And Allah is fully aware of all that you do.
