In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, for He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.

2. He is the One Who expelled those among the People of the Book who disbelieved from their homes at the first gathering. You never imagined they would leave, and they themselves thought their fortresses would protect them from Allah. But Allah came upon them from where they least expected, casting terror into their hearts. They destroyed their own homes with their own hands, and by the hands of the believers. So take heed, you who have insight.

3. Had Allah not decreed exile for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world. And in the Hereafter, theirs will be the punishment of the Fire.

4. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah — then surely Allah is severe in punishment.

5. Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing upon their roots was by Allah's permission, so that He might disgrace those who defiantly disobey.

6. Whatever gains Allah granted to His Messenger from them — you did not have to ride horses or camels to acquire it. Rather, Allah gives His messengers authority over whomever He wills, and Allah has power over all things.

7. Whatever gains Allah granted to His Messenger from the people of the towns belong to Allah, the Messenger, his close relatives, the orphans, the needy, and the stranded traveler, so that wealth does not circulate only among the rich among you. Whatever the Messenger gives you, accept it, and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it. And be mindful of Allah, for Allah is severe in punishment.

8. For the poor emigrants who were driven from their homes and possessions, seeking Allah's favor and approval, and supporting Allah and His Messenger. These are the ones who are truly sincere.

9. And those who had settled in the city and embraced faith before them — they love those who emigrated to them, feeling no resentment in their hearts for what the emigrants were given. They willingly prefer others over themselves, even if they themselves are in need. Whoever is protected from the greed of his own soul — these are the ones who will truly succeed.

10. And those who come after them say, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and leave no bitterness in our hearts toward those who believe. Our Lord, You are truly Most Kind, Most Merciful."

11. Have you not seen those hypocrites who say to their disbelieving brothers among the People of the Book, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will never obey anyone against you. And if you are attacked, we will certainly help you"? Allah bears witness that they are liars.

12. If they are expelled, they will not leave with them; and if they are attacked, they will not help them. And if they do help them, they will surely turn their backs; then they will not be helped.

13. Truly, they fear you more deeply in their hearts than they fear Allah. That is because they are a people who do not understand.

14. They will never fight you all together, except from fortified towns or from behind walls. Their hostility toward each other is fierce — you think they are united, yet their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people who do not reason.

15. They are just like those who recently came before them, who tasted the bitter consequences of their deeds — and for them is a painful punishment.

16. They are like Satan, who says to the human being, "Disbelieve!" Then, when he disbelieves, Satan says, "I have nothing to do with you — I truly fear Allah, Lord of all creation."

17. So the final outcome for both is that they will remain forever in the Fire. That is the repayment of those who do wrong.

18. O you who believe, be mindful of Allah, and let every soul carefully consider what it has prepared for tomorrow. Be mindful of Allah, for Allah is fully aware of all that you do.

19. Do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He caused them to forget themselves. They are the defiantly disobedient.

20. The people of the Fire and the people of Paradise are not equal. It is the people of Paradise who are the successful.

21. Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and shattered from awe of Allah. Such examples We present to people, so that they may reflect deeply.

22. He is Allah — there is no god but Him — the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

23. He is Allah — there is no god but Him — the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme in Greatness. Glory be to Allah, far above whatever they associate with Him.

24. He is Allah — the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper. To Him belong the most beautiful names. Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
