In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. O you who believe, do not put yourselves ahead of Allah and His Messenger, and be mindful of Allah. Surely, Allah hears all and knows all.
2. O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak loudly to him as you speak loudly to one another, lest your deeds become worthless without your realizing it.
3. Certainly, those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger — they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for reverence. For them is forgiveness and a great reward.
4. Truly, most of those who call out to you from behind the chambers lack understanding.
5. Had they been patient until you came out to them, it would have been better for them. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
6. O you who believe, if a sinful person brings you news, verify it carefully, lest you harm people unknowingly and afterward regret what you have done.
7. And know that among you is Allah's Messenger. If he were to follow your wishes in many matters, you would surely suffer. But Allah has made faith beloved to you, beautifying it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to you. Such are those who are rightly guided.
8. A grace and blessing from Allah. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
9. If two groups of believers fight one another, reconcile between them. But if one group transgresses against the other, then fight against the transgressing group until it returns to Allah's command. If it returns, reconcile between them fairly and act justly. Surely, Allah loves those who act justly.
10. The believers are truly brothers, so reconcile between your brothers, and be mindful of Allah, so that you may receive mercy.
11. O you who believe, let no group mock another — perhaps they are better than them. Nor let women mock other women — perhaps they are better than them. Do not insult one another, nor call each other by offensive nicknames. How terrible it is to be called wicked after having faith! Those who do not repent are truly the wrongdoers.
12. O you who believe, avoid much suspicion — for some suspicion is sinful. Do not spy on one another, nor let some of you backbite others. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would surely detest it. Be mindful of Allah, for Allah is Ever Accepting of repentance, Most Merciful.
13. O people, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may come to know one another. Truly, the noblest among you in Allah's sight is the most mindful of Him. Allah is All-Knowing, Fully Aware.
14. The desert Arabs say, "We believe." Say, "You have not yet believed; rather say, 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish anything from your deeds. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."
15. The believers are only those who have faith in Allah and His Messenger, then never doubt, and strive with their wealth and their lives in Allah's cause. These are the ones who are truthful.
16. Say, "Do you presume to teach Allah about your religion, while Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth? Allah has full knowledge of everything."
17. They regard their submission as a favor to you. Say, "Do not consider your submission a favor to me. Rather, it is Allah Who has favored you by guiding you to faith, if you are truthful."
18. Allah knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and Allah sees clearly all that you do.
