In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
1. We have granted you a clear victory.
2. So that Allah may forgive your past and future sins, complete His favor upon you, and guide you along a straight path.
3. And so that Allah may support you with a mighty help.
4. He is the One Who sent tranquility into the hearts of the believers, increasing their faith upon faith. To Allah belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
5. So that He may admit believing men and believing women into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain there forever, and erase their misdeeds. That, in Allah's sight, is a supreme triumph.
6. And so that He may punish hypocritical men and hypocritical women, and idolatrous men and idolatrous women — those who harbor evil thoughts about Allah. Upon them is a terrible turn of fate. Allah is angry with them, has cursed them, and has prepared Hellfire for them — what a miserable destination!
7. To Allah belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
8. Certainly, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good news, and a warner.
9. So that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, support him, and honor him, and glorify Him morning and evening.
10. Those who pledge loyalty to you are pledging loyalty to Allah — Allah's Hand is above their hands. Whoever breaks his pledge harms only himself, and whoever fulfills the promise he made to Allah, He will grant him a great reward.
11. Those Bedouins who stayed behind will soon say to you, "Our wealth and families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, "Who can protect you from Allah if He intends harm or benefit for you?" Rather, Allah is fully aware of everything you do.
12. In fact, you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, and this seemed pleasing to your hearts. You harbored evil thoughts and became a ruined people.
13. Whoever does not believe in Allah and His Messenger — We have surely prepared a blazing Fire for the disbelievers.
14. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, and Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
15. Those who stayed behind will say, when you set out to take spoils of war, "Let us follow you." They wish to alter Allah's words. Say, "You will never follow us; this is what Allah has already declared." Then they will say, "Rather, you envy us." In truth, they understand only a little.
16. Say to those Bedouins who stayed behind, "You will soon be called to face a people of great strength; you will fight them, or they will submit. If you obey, Allah will grant you a beautiful reward. But if you turn away as you did before, He will punish you with a painful punishment."
17. There is no blame upon the blind, nor upon the lame, nor upon the sick. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever turns away, He will punish him with a painful punishment.
18. Allah was truly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you beneath the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with a near victory.
19. And abundant spoils that they will take. Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.
20. Allah has promised you many spoils that you will gain, and He has hastened this one for you. He restrained people's hands from harming you, so that it may be a sign for the believers, and so that He may guide you along a straight path.
21. And there are other gains you have not yet achieved, but Allah has already encompassed them. Allah is ever Capable of all things.
22. Had those who disbelieved fought you, they would surely have turned their backs in retreat, and then they would have found neither protector nor helper.
23. Such is Allah's established way, which has occurred before — and you will never find any change in Allah's way.
24. It is He Who restrained their hands from you, and your hands from them, in the valley of Mecca, after He had made you prevail over them. Allah sees clearly all that you do.
25. They are the ones who disbelieved and prevented you from reaching the Sacred Mosque, and prevented the sacrificial animals from reaching their place of sacrifice. If it had not been for believing men and believing women whom you did not know — whom you might have unknowingly harmed, thus incurring guilt — Allah held back His punishment, so that He may admit into His mercy whomever He wills. Had they been clearly separated, We would certainly have punished those who disbelieved among them with a painful punishment.
26. When the disbelievers filled their hearts with zeal — the zeal of ignorance — Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and He bound them to the word of piety. They were most deserving and worthy of it. And Allah has full knowledge of all things.
27. Allah has truly fulfilled His Messenger's vision: you will surely enter the Sacred Mosque, Allah willing, in complete security, shaving your heads or cutting your hair short, without fear. He knew what you did not know, and He granted you, besides this, a near victory.
28. He is the One Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all other religions. And Allah is sufficient as a witness.
29. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Those who are with him are firm against the disbelievers, yet compassionate among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking Allah's favor and His pleasure. Their mark is visible on their faces from the traces of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is like a seed that sprouts its shoot, then strengthens it, grows thick, and stands firmly upon its stalk, delighting the sowers — so that He may enrage the disbelievers by them. Allah has promised forgiveness and a great reward to those among them who believe and do righteous deeds.
