In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. This Book is sent down from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise.

3. We created the heavens and the earth and everything between them only with truth, and for an appointed term. Yet those who disbelieve turn away from the warnings they receive.

4. Say, "Have you considered those you call upon besides Allah? Show me what they have created on earth, or do they have any share in the heavens? Bring me a scripture revealed before this one, or some trace of knowledge, if you are truthful."

5. Who is more misguided than one who calls upon others besides Allah — those who will never answer him until the Day of Resurrection, and who are completely unaware of their prayers?

6. And when people are gathered together, those they worshiped will become their enemies, utterly rejecting their worship.

7. When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say about the truth that has come to them, "This is obvious magic."

8. Or do they say, "He has invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, you cannot protect me from Allah in any way. He knows best what you say about it. He is sufficient as a witness between me and you, and He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."

9. Say, "I am not the first messenger ever sent, nor do I know what will happen to me or to you. I only follow what is revealed to me, and I am nothing but a clear warner."

10. Say, "Have you considered if this Quran is truly from Allah, yet you reject it, while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed, whereas you arrogantly refuse? Certainly, Allah does not guide unjust people."

11. Those who disbelieve say about the believers, "If this were truly good, they would not have accepted it before us." And since they refuse to be guided by it, they will say, "This is an ancient lie."

12. Yet before this was the Scripture of Moses, a guide and a mercy. And this Book confirms it, revealed in clear Arabic, to warn those who do wrong, and to give good news to those who do good.

13. Truly, those who say, "Our Lord is Allah," and then remain steadfast — no fear will touch them, nor will they grieve.

14. They are the people of Paradise, dwelling there forever, as a reward for all they used to do.

15. We have commanded the human being to treat his parents with kindness. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his bearing and weaning lasted thirty months. Then, when he reaches full maturity and attains forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your blessings upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteous deeds that please You. And improve my offspring for me. Truly, I turn to You in repentance, and I am among those who submit to You."

16. These are the ones from whom We accept the best of their deeds and overlook their misdeeds. They will be among the people of Paradise — the true promise which they had been promised.

17. But there is one who says to his parents, "Enough of you! Do you promise me that I will be brought forth again, even though generations before me have passed away?" While they cry out to Allah for help, saying, "Woe to you! Believe! Allah's promise is true," he replies, "These are nothing but ancient tales!"

18. These are the ones the word has been decreed against them, along with communities of jinn and humans who passed away before them. They were the losers.

19. For each there will be ranks according to what they have done, so that He may fully repay them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.

20. On the Day when those who disbelieved are brought before the Fire, it will be said, "You consumed your good things during your worldly life and enjoyed them. Today you will be repaid with a humiliating punishment, because you were arrogant on earth without right, and because you defiantly disobeyed."

21. Remember the brother of Aad, when he warned his people among the sand dunes, when warners had come before him and after him, saying, "Worship none but Allah. Truly, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."

22. They said, "Have you come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring upon us what you threaten, if you are truthful!"

23. He replied, "Knowledge rests only with Allah. I only convey to you what I have been sent with. But I see that you are a people acting ignorantly."

24. Then, when they saw a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This cloud will bring us rain." Rather, it was what you were impatient for — a wind carrying a painful punishment.

25. Destroying everything by the command of its Lord. So by morning, nothing was seen except their dwellings. This is how We repay the guilty people.

26. We had established them in ways We have not established you, and We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts. Yet neither their hearing, nor their sight, nor their hearts benefited them at all, since they persisted in rejecting Allah's revelations. And so, the very punishment they mocked eventually surrounded them.

27. We have certainly destroyed towns around you, and We have repeatedly shown Our signs, so that they might return.

28. Why then did those they took as gods besides Allah, as a means of drawing near to Him, not help them? Rather, they failed them. Such was their falsehood and what they invented.

29. Remember when We directed toward you a group of jinn to listen to the Quran. When they arrived, they said, "Listen quietly!" Then, when it was finished, they returned to their people as warners.

30. They said, "Our people, we have heard a Scripture revealed after Moses, confirming what came before it, guiding to the truth and to a straight path."

31. "Our people, respond to the one who calls to Allah, and believe in Him. He will forgive you of your sins, and protect you from a painful punishment."

32. Whoever does not respond to the one who calls to Allah cannot escape Him on earth, nor will they have any protectors besides Him. Such people are clearly lost.

33. Do they not see that Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and was not wearied by creating them, is able to bring the dead back to life? Yes, He certainly has power over all things.

34. On the Day when those who disbelieved are brought before the Fire, they will be asked, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord!" He will say, "Then taste the punishment for having denied the truth."

35. So be patient, as the messengers of firm resolve were patient, and do not seek to hasten their punishment. On the Day they see what they were promised, it will seem to them as if they had stayed no more than an hour of a single day. This is a proclamation: will anyone be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient?
