In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. This Scripture is sent down from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise.

3. In the heavens and the earth are signs for those who believe.

4. And in your own creation, and in the creatures He spreads throughout the earth, are signs for people who are certain.

5. And in the alternation of night and day, in the sustenance Allah sends down from the sky — giving life to the earth after its death — and in the shifting of the winds, are signs for people who understand.

6. These are Allah's revelations, which We recite to you in truth. So, after Allah and His revelations, in what message will they believe?

7. Woe to every lying sinner.

8. Who hears Allah's revelations recited to him, yet arrogantly persists as if he never heard them. So give him news of a painful punishment.

9. And when he learns something of Our revelations, he mocks them. Such people will have a humiliating punishment.

10. Hell awaits them. Nothing they earned will help them, nor will those they took as protectors besides Allah. They will suffer a tremendous punishment.

11. This is true guidance. Those who reject their Lord's revelations will have a punishment of agonizing torment.

12. Allah is the One Who subjected the sea for you, so ships may sail upon it by His command, and so you may seek His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful.

13. And He has subjected for you everything in the heavens and everything on earth — all from Him. Surely, in this are signs for people who reflect.

14. Tell those who believe to forgive those who do not hope for the Days of Allah, so that He may repay people according to what they have earned.

15. Whoever does good, it is for his own soul; and whoever does evil, it is against it. Then to your Lord you will all return.

16. Certainly, We gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood, provided them with good things, and favored them above all others.

17. And We gave them clear proofs regarding the matter. They differed only after knowledge had come to them, out of rivalry among themselves. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning their differences.

18. Then We placed you upon a clear path regarding this matter; so follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who have no knowledge.

19. They cannot protect you from Allah in any way. Truly, the wrongdoers are allies of one another, but Allah is the Ally of those who are mindful of Him.

20. This is insight for all people, and guidance and mercy for those who have certainty.

21. Do those who commit evil deeds really think We will treat them the same as those who believe and do good — making their lives and deaths equal? How terribly they judge!

22. Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth, so that every soul may be repaid according to what it has earned. No one will be wronged.

23. Have you seen the one who takes his own desires as his god? Allah knowingly lets him stray, sealing his hearing and heart, and placing a veil over his sight. Who then can guide him after Allah? Will you not reflect?

24. They say, "There is nothing beyond our worldly life. We die, we live, and nothing destroys us except time." Yet they have no real knowledge of this — they only guess.

25. When Our clear verses are recited to them, their only argument is to say, "Bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful!"

26. Say, "Allah gives you life, then causes you to die, then He will gather you all on the Day of Resurrection — there is no doubt about it. But most people do not understand."

27. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. On the Day the Hour arrives, those who followed falsehood will lose.

28. You will see every community kneeling. Each community will be summoned to its record: "Today, you will be repaid for what you used to do."

29. This record of Ours speaks the truth about you. Truly, We have been recording everything you did.

30. As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is the clear triumph.

31. But as for those who disbelieved: "Were My verses not recited to you? Yet you were arrogant and became a guilty people."

32. When it was said, "Allah's promise is true, and there is no doubt about the Hour," you replied, "We have no idea what the Hour is. We only guess, and we are not convinced."

33. The evil consequences of their deeds will become clear to them, and the very punishment they mocked will surround them.

34. It will be said, "Today, We forget you, just as you forgot the meeting of this Day. Your home is the Fire, and you will have no helpers."

35. This is because you treated Allah's revelations as a joke, and the worldly life deceived you. Today they will neither be taken out of it, nor allowed to make amends.

36. So all praise belongs to Allah — Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of all existence.

37. To Him alone belongs all greatness in the heavens and the earth. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
