In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

1. Ha. Meem.

2. By the clear Book.

3. We have made it an Arabic Quran, so that you may understand.

4. And it is with Us in the Source of the Book — exalted and full of wisdom.

5. Shall We turn away the Reminder from you, because you are a people who are extravagant?

6. How many prophets did We send among earlier peoples!

7. Yet whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him.

8. So We destroyed those who were far mightier than these, and the example of the former peoples has already passed.

9. If you ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will surely say, "They were created by the Almighty, the All-Knowing."

10. He is the One Who made the earth a resting place for you, and created pathways upon it, so that you may find your way.

11. And He is the One Who sends down water from the sky in measured amounts, bringing life to a dead land. In the same way, you too will be brought forth.

12. And He is the One Who created all things in pairs, and provided ships and livestock for you to ride.

13. So that you may mount upon their backs, and then remember your Lord's favor when you are seated upon them, saying, "Glory be to the One Who has subjected this to us, for we could never have mastered it ourselves.

14. And surely, to our Lord we will return."

15. Yet they assign to Him a share from among His servants! Truly, the human being is openly ungrateful.

16. Has He taken daughters from what He created, and favored you exclusively with sons?

17. Yet when one of them is given news of what he attributes to the Most Merciful, his face darkens with grief, and he is filled with suppressed anger.

18. Or someone raised amid ornaments, and is unable to argue clearly in disputes?

19. And they claim the angels — who are servants of the Most Merciful — to be female. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.

20. They say, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshiped them." They have no knowledge of this; they are merely guessing.

21. Or have We given them a scripture before this, to which they hold firmly?

22. Rather, they say, "We found our forefathers following a certain way, and we are guided by their footsteps."

23. Similarly, whenever We sent a warner before you to any town, its wealthy ones said, "We found our forefathers following a certain way, and we will surely follow in their footsteps."

24. The messenger said, "Even if I bring you guidance better than what you found your forefathers following?" They replied, "We reject whatever you have been sent with."

25. So We took vengeance upon them. See then how severe was the fate of those who denied the truth!

26. When Abraham said to his father and his people, "I am free from all that you worship.

27. Except the One Who created me, for He will surely guide me."

28. And he made this declaration a lasting legacy among his descendants, so that they might return.

29. Yet I allowed these people and their ancestors to enjoy life until the truth came to them, along with a clear Messenger.

30. But when the truth reached them, they said, "This is magic, and we utterly reject it."

31. And they said, "Why wasn't this Quran revealed to a prominent man from one of the two cities?"

32. Is it they who distribute your Lord's mercy? It is We Who distribute their livelihood among them in this worldly life, and We elevate some above others in rank, so that some may take others in service. Yet your Lord's mercy is far better than all they accumulate.

33. Were it not that all people might become one community, We would have given those who deny the Most Merciful houses with roofs of silver, and stairways upon which they ascend.

34. And doors for their houses, and couches upon which they recline.

35. And ornaments of gold. Yet all of this is merely enjoyment of this worldly life. While the Hereafter, with your Lord, is for the Allah-conscious.

36. Whoever turns away from remembering the Most Merciful, We appoint for him a devil, and he becomes his companion.

37. And these devils surely turn them away from the right path, though they think themselves rightly guided.

38. Until, when such a person comes before Us, he will say to his companion, "If only there were between you and me the distance of two easts! What a terrible companion!"

39. But it will not benefit you today, since you committed injustice, that you share in the punishment together.

40. Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind, or those who are clearly lost?

41. Even if We take you away, We will surely exact retribution upon them.

42. Or if We show you what We have promised them — We certainly have full power over them.

43. So hold firmly to what has been revealed to you; you are truly upon a straight path.

44. And this revelation is surely a reminder for you and your people, and you will soon be questioned.

45. Ask those messengers We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint gods besides the Most Merciful to be worshiped?"

46. We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of all worlds."

47. But when he brought them Our signs, they immediately laughed at them.

48. Every sign We showed them was greater than the one before it, and We seized them with punishment, so they might return.

49. They said, "O magician, call upon your Lord for us, by the covenant He made with you; we will surely be guided."

50. Yet when We removed the punishment from them, they immediately broke their promise.

51. Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying, "My people, isn't the kingdom of Egypt mine, and don't these rivers flow beneath me? Do you not see?

52. Am I not better than this man who is insignificant and can hardly express himself clearly?

53. Why hasn't he been given bracelets of gold, or angels accompanying him openly?"

54. Thus he deceived his people, and they obeyed him. Truly, they were a rebellious people.

55. So when they provoked Our anger, We took vengeance upon them and drowned them all.

56. And We made them a precedent and an example for later generations.

57. When the son of Mary was presented as an example, your people immediately objected.

58. Saying, "Are our gods better, or is he?" They only brought him up to argue — truly, they are a contentious people.

59. He was merely a servant whom We blessed, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.

60. Had We willed, We could have placed angels among you on earth, succeeding one another.

61. He is an indication of the Hour — so do not doubt it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.

62. Do not let Satan turn you away; he is clearly your enemy.

63. When Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom, and to clarify some of what you differ about. So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

64. Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him alone. This is a straight path."

65. Yet the factions among them disagreed — so woe to those who did wrong, for the punishment of a painful Day.

66. Are they waiting for anything but the Hour to come upon them suddenly, without their realizing?

67. On that Day, even the closest friends will become enemies to one another — except those mindful of Allah.

68. "My servants, today there is no fear for you, nor will you grieve.

69. They are those who believed in Our revelations and surrendered themselves to Allah.

70. Enter Paradise, you and your spouses, rejoicing."

71. Golden dishes and cups will be passed around them, and there will be whatever souls desire and eyes delight in — and you will remain there forever.

72. This is the Paradise you have inherited — because of what you used to do.

73. There you will have abundant fruit, from which you will freely eat.

74. But the guilty will remain forever in the torment of Hell.

75. It will never be eased for them, and they will be utterly hopeless there.

76. We did not wrong them; rather, they themselves were the wrongdoers.

77. They will cry out, "Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!" He will reply, "You will remain here."

78. We certainly brought you the truth, but most of you despised the truth.

79. Have they settled on some plan? Then surely, We have settled on Ours.

80. Or do they think We do not hear their secrets and private conversations? Yes indeed, and Our messengers are right there with them, recording everything.

81. Say, "If the Most Merciful had a son, I would be the first of worshipers."

82. Glory be to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, far above what they claim.

83. So leave them to indulge in idle talk and play, until they meet the Day they have been promised.

84. It is He Who is Allah in heaven and Allah on earth, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.

85. Blessed is He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. With Him alone is knowledge of the Hour, and to Him you will all return.

86. Those they call upon besides Him have no power to intercede — except those who testify to the truth knowingly.

87. If you ask them who created them, they will surely say, "Allah." Then how are they so deluded?

88. And as for his saying, "My Lord, these people do not believe".

89. So turn away from them, and say, "Peace." Soon they will come to know.
